Problem with dbca

Hi,
I installed 11.2.0.2 on RHEL 5.6.2 64bit - only the software at first. Now I am using netca and dbca to create a database. I created a listener using netca. Then I ran dbca to create the database along with the enterprise manager. However, it says, that it cannot find a listener in the default location, so the EM cannot be currently installed. What is the problem with the listener?
Thanks in advance!

ok, the problem is back again.
Well, this is the error! I am using the dbca GUI, and it's in german, but that's the translation:
Database-Configuration Assistent: Warning
The configuration of the database with the database control assumes that a listener is installed in the current oracle default folder. You should start netca in order to configure a listener before you can continue. You can continue also without the configuration of the database control.
Well, I want to install the EM. What should I do?1) have you created database sting DBCA?
2) Listener configured using NETCA? now listener is running ? what is the status of the listener.
If everything fine then go ahead with to configure OEM.

    hi Chandra
    Thanks for the reply again
    I followed the following steps
    mkdir /share1
    mkdir /share2
    Add the following lines to the /etc/exports file.
    /share1 *(rw,sync,no_wdelay,insecure_locks,no_root_squash)
    /share2 *(rw,sync,no_wdelay,insecure_locks,no_root_squash)
    Run the following command to export the NFS shares.
    chkconfig nfs on
    service nfs restart
    On both RAC1 and RAC2 create some mount points to mount the NFS shares to.
    mkdir /u01
    mkdir /u02
    Add the following lines to the "/etc/fstab" file. The mount options are suggestions from Kevin Closson.
    node1:/share1 /u01 nfs rw,bg,hard,nointr,tcp,vers=3,timeo=300,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,actimeo=0 0 0
    node1:/share2 /u02 nfs rw,bg,hard,nointr,tcp,vers=3,timeo=300,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,actimeo=0 0 0
    Mount the NFS shares on both servers.
    mount /u01
    mount /u02
    Create the shared CRS Configuration and Voting Disk files.
    touch /u01/crs_configuration
    touch /u01/voting_disk
    Create the directories in which the Oracle software will be installed.
    mkdir -p /u01/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs
    mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
    mkdir -p /u01/oradata
    chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01 /u02

  • Problem with Oracle 11g(32 bit) installation on windows 7 ultimate edition

    Hello all,
    I have a problem with Oracle 11g(32 bit) installation on windows 7 ultimate edition (32 bit).
    I have successfully installed it immediately after OS installation. But today, i have decided to deinstall it and go for Oracle 10g version for 32 bit.
    Everything went normal during installation, but i can see the services is not present in services.msc. Also its throwing some exception for dbca, netca
    Now i tried to deinstall it and again go for 11g. But even the same story here..
    Can anybody give me a solution for this..

    ur problem is that u install latest version and now u trying to installing old version.
    now u need to uninstall 10g and delete oracle from services, if the probleme presist then u should
    install fresh windows 7.

    SaqibNo need to install a fresh OS. That's like tearing your house down just because you wired a lamp wrong and blew a circuit breaker.
    There are MeaLink notes on how to eradicate an Oracle install from Windows, but it boils down to this:
    Stop all Oracle services
    In the registery:
    - Delete all oracle services from the register (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
    - Delete the entire Oralce folder from HKLM\Software
    reboot
    Delete the ORACLE_HOME directory and any other Oracle related directories/files. Offhand, it seems like there is an Oracle directory under Program Files.
    reboot

  • Attention! About problems with Oracle 8.1.6 on newer Linux distributions!!

    Hello all, I've just got some feedback from a helful person at http://www.crunge.com/ about the problems concerning RedHat Linux 7.0 and Oracle 8.1.6, this MAY apply to other newer linux distributions.
    I've tried, without luck, to install Oracle on RedHat 7.0 and Slackware 7 (the newest one), and it would not install properly, kept stopping right about when the database initialization started at 80% finished install procedure. Sp i wrote them a mail, not expecting an answer really, but I did got an answer, and below is what the person said;
    Thanks for the feedback.
    Oracle 8.1.6 does not work under Red Hat Linux 7. Yes, that's the problem
    that I mentioned in the doc--you get to 80% and the DBCA crashes and the
    Oracle executables die.
    I've heard, but I haven't tried it myself, that if you install the latest
    glibc errata (2.1.94) then the DBCA completes but the Oracle executables
    still die. The DBCA problem was apparently a Java issue that is fixed in
    the errata. But you're still out of luck since the exes won't work.
    It might appear that this is a problem with Red Hat Linux 7. But it appears
    that it is a problem with some assumptions that Oracle made, assumptions
    that worked with glibc 2.1.3 (the C library included with RHL 6.2) but which
    prove false with later glibc versions. As other Linux distributions adopt
    the new glibc Oracle will fail to work on them as well.
    The best advice I can give at this point is to install and run Oracle on
    Red Hat Linux 6.2. Hopefully Oracle will address the glibc issues with the
    8.1.7 release.
    Chris
    p.s. Do not construe this
    as an official Red Hat response; I merely forwarded your e-mail from my
    home account. This response and the web pages I put up are mine.
    So i guess one sollution to the problem is to try a bit older version of the linux you are having problems with (i tried it on RH 6.1 and it worked like a dream).
    Another solution can be to wait it out to check and see if Oracle put a fix out here on technet...?
    Hope this helps people bogged down in fustration.

There is a bit of fooling with glibc to get it to work. However after you do that it works like a dream. VALinux has a work around posted at: http://ftp.valinux.com/pub/support/hjl/glibc/sdk/2.1/
    The READEME.Oracle8i has the work around and the two tar balls are the necessary files. I followed the directions to the letter and they worked like a dream. Any questions feel free to drop me a line.

    OK, so i followed your instructions to the letter (several times), sure I get past the 80% bug but now I have new erros coming up , -"Error in invoking target install of makefile /usr/oracle/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlplus.mk". I get a whole series of these errors for various mk files. These errors apear during the link phase of the install, prior to the glibc workaround I was not getting this. I am a newbie to Linux and trying to give it a serious go but so far I have had little luck
    Any help appreciated.

    I am not sure but I think scott user is maybe locked by default.
    The problem to verify that is that I can't connect no more to oem, I only could the first time after creating CHUCKY database with emca .
    Connection refused, my computer doesn't make a listen on theses addresses, it only made a listen on it the first time I had created database.
    I don't know to reactivate it .

    Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (chucky) = 5500
    Enterprise Manager Agent Port (chucky) = 1830
    So I don't know exactly what the problem is oem is no more accessible so I can't change permission or reactivate scott user and it is said permissions denied when doing sqlplus as sysdba.

  • RAC: ocfs-option disabled when trying to create database with dbca.

    Hi everybody,
    I have a really weird problem running dbca in my 2-node RAC installation on Red Hat ES.
    The software version of both oracle clusterware and rdbms is 10.2.0.2.0, meaning the latest patchset has been applied.
    I have installed and configured ocfs, and 4 different ocfs-partition are neatly presented to the operating system. I can save files and browse the ocfs file system, everything seems to be working fine.
    Also, srvctl status nodeapps -n <nodename> shows that oracle clusterware is running nicely, all the components are up including the listener, which I used netca to configure.
    However, when trying to create a cluster database using dbca, the option to use ocfs is not enabled, e.g it is "grayed out" in the Oracle Universal installer. So is raw devices option. The only option left is the ASM, which is selectable in the OUI.
    In addition, I can indeed run scripts manually and create a single-instance database and use the ocfs-partitions for the datafiles, redo logs and archivelogs. No problems at all!
    Do any of you guys have the slightest clue what can be causing this behaviour? Of course I have raised an issue with Oracle Support, but while waiting for an update, it doesn't hurt trying the forum.
    I appreciate all suggestions, thanks for taking the time to read my posting.
    Best Regards,
    Vegard

    You were right.

    "1.3 Configuration Tasks for Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters"

    Thanks, problem solved.

    With Windows Server 2003 I haven't any problems with the configuration of database control over cmd.
    Any Ideas?

    Please run the following command
    cmd>net start OracleDBConsolexxx(Assume sid name=xxx
    cmd>set oracle_sid=xxx
    cmd>emca (You will get all related keyword of emca)
    Firstly you have to check that if you have created your database through DBCA then you have to drop old repository or recreate repository:
    To drop (remove) the configuration files and repository for Database Console, run:
    cmd>emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    To recreate (remove & create) the configuration files and repository for Database Console, run:
    cmd>emca -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate
    (Please mark it helpful/Answered if you get solution)

  • 10g: Clone database with DBCA silent option

    Hello community,
    I have tried now for several times to make a clone of my existing database with DBCA and "-silent" option. I could improve my progress in cloning but now I always stick in the following error:
    But first, what I have done so far:
    1. Created a clone template of my Database with command:
    dbca -silent -createCloneTemplate -sourceSID DBORIGIN -templateName myTest.dbc -datafileJarLocation /tmp/oratest
    2. Create the clone-database by using the template from (1.) with command:
    dbca -silent -createDatabase -templateName myTest.dbc -cloneTemplate -gdbname DBCLONE -sid DBCLONE -datafileJarLocation /tmp/oratest -datafileDestination /oradata -responseFile NO_VALUE -characterset AL32UTF8
    Then the progress of execution is shown, it ends with a link to a log file. In this log file I can see the following contents:

    I have no idea where the "<OMF_CONTROL_0>" comes from. It is nowhere included in my myTest.dbc-file. In my eyes, it looks like that DBCA tries to create the file exactly with this filename - and this fails on Solaris, sure...
    Here is, what I have in my template file "myTest.dbc" regarding the control files:
    =======================
    <ControlfileAttributes id="Controlfile">
    <maxDatafiles>100</maxDatafiles>

    <image name="o1_mf_2k1zmdvo_.ctl" filepath="{ORACLE_BASE}/oradata/{DB_UNIQUE_NAME}/"/>
    </ControlfileAttributes>
    ====================================
    To be honest, it is the first time that i try to use the DBCA with all these "special" options, especially the silent mode.
    Does anyone have an idea what is going wrong in my case described here? What do I or could I change to come to a success clone?
    Maybe, you can tell me where I can find some kind of "how to" for creating a clone using the silent-option.
    Thanks a lot in advance for helping a newbie! ;-)

    Hello,
    finally I was successful in installing the clone of my DB. :-)
    You remember that I had problems with the control files and these looked very strange:
    control_files=("/oradata/DBCLONE/<OMF_CONTROL_0>","/oradata/DBCLONE/<OMF_CONTROL_1>")
    The hint to check the permission in "/oradata" was a good one. The permissions were right all the time, but Oracle's DBCA was not able to create the sub-directory "DBCLONE". When I created it manually before installing the clone, the installation worked fine!
    I'm still wondering about this because all other subdirectories were created automatically during running "dbca" (e.g. all subdirectories "DBCLONE" needed below the $ORACLE_BASE/admin/-directory like adump,bdump and so on...).
    And i'm wondering about the names of the control files:
    I expected that these strange OMF-names would be replaced by a "normal" file name. But "dbca" was able to create the files exactly with the names "<OMF_CONTROL_0>" and "<OMF_CONTROL_0>"...
    As I had understood so far from OMF-concept, isn't the idea that Oracle takes care of file-naming instead of myself? I mean it can't be that I have to enter the template for DBCA and manually enter the control files names...
    I'm still close to the thought that it be a bug that isn't documented until now. Maybe, when I have some time left I will open a service request at metalink.
    If you are interested in this I will keep you informed on this topic. The other way round I stay interested in your opions and hints for using "dbca" to make and install a DB-clone.
    Thanks again for you effort to help me as a rookie in Oracle. :-)
    Regards

  • 9iR2 problem with assistants

    I am having a problem with a 9i release 2 install on linux....
    everything seems to go fine all installs and then when it gets to running netca and dbca at the end all the assistants fail to start, usually taking OUI with them, however on the one time it didn't it generated the same errors as the running them from the command line post install (see below).
    does anyone have any ideas on this I'm begining to wonder if the jvm isn't corrupted as this happens straight off with any of the assistants.

    Check that /tmp is not too small. That will cause this problem.
    If /tmp is OK, then you need to re-link your executables, maybe all of them, not just rdbms.mk.
    In $ORACLE_HOME/bin there's a relink script called "relink".
    Just run "relink all".
    There's a document on this available on Metalink - (Docid -131321.1).

  • RMAN conflict with DBCA

    We're currently transitioning to RMAN as a backup solution for our databases, but there seems to be a problem with some of the bases which has previously been backed up by the use of DBCA.
    I've been following this tutorial; http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmrecov002.htm
    It goes swimmingly until I reach the point where I'm to restore the actual database. Firstly, this is the command used to take the actual backup:
    run {
      set controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '${INC_DIR}/cf_%F';
      allocate channel d1 type disk;
      allocate channel d2 type disk;
      allocate channel d3 type disk;
      backup
      incremental level 0
      tag ${SID}_level_0
      filesperset 6
      format '${INC_DIR}/df_t%t_s%s_p%p'
      (database);
    }Then the files that are generated are transferred to a new host through FTP, so there's no use of tape or NFS, but both machines run the same OS and Oracle version. As previously mentioned, the various spfile and control file restorations and modifications proceed without a hitch, it's towards the end of the tutorial the problem occurs when I attempt to restore the actual database. And mind you, this is on databases which are currently being backed up through the use of DBCA.
    RUN
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL disk1 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/data1/backup/rman/qcdash1/incremental/df_t%t_s%s_p%p';

    failover to previous backupI omitted a few unimportant entires to make it more readable. It's clearly failing when trying to find the qcdash1.dfb file, but why is it even looking for it? There's no tablespace in the database by that name and there's no RMAN configuration pointing to the path in question and neither does any of the newly restored database parameter and control files. The only link I could find was that on the old host a DBCA template job runs which directs its output to that very path, but what does that have to do with RMAN?

    try restore after doing this
    Resync the RMAN Catalog
         $ rman target sys/<passwd>@target catalog rman/<passwd>@catalog
         RMAN> resync catalog;
    Or
    Validate the backup pieces.
         $ rman target sys/<passwd>@target catalog rman/<passwd>@catalog
         RMAN> crosscheck backup;
         RMAN> resync catalog;

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

    This was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
    public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
         boolean active = true;
         public void run(){
              ss.setSoTimeout(90);
              while (active){
                   try{
                        serverSocket = ss.accept();
                   catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
                   sleep(91);
              }catch (InterruptedException ie){
              interrupt();
    }

  • Problem with Threads and a static variable

    I have a problem with the code below. I am yet to make sure that I understand the problem. Correct me if I am wrong please.
    Code functionality:
    A timer calls SetState every second. It sets the state and sets boolean variable "changed" to true. Then notifies a main process thread to check if the state changed to send a message.
    The problem as far I understand is:
    Assume the timer Thread calls SetState twice before the main process Thread runs. As a result, "changed" is set to true twice. However, since the main process is blocked twice during the two calls to SetState, when it runs it would have the two SetState timer threads blocked on its synchronized body. It will pass the first one, send the message and set "changed" to false since it was true. Now, it will pass the second thread, but here is the problem, "changed" is already set to false. As a result, it won't send the message even though it is supposed to.
    Would you please let me know if my understanding is correct? If so, what would you propose to resolve the problem? Should I call wait some other or should I notify in a different way?
    Thanks,
    B.D.
    Code:
    private static volatile boolean bChanged = false;
    private static Thread objMainProcess;
       protected static void Init(){
            objMainProcess = new Thread() {
                public void run() {
                    while( objMainProcess == Thread.currentThread() ) {
                       GetState();
            objMainProcess.setDaemon( true );
            objMainProcess.start();
        public static void initStatusTimer(){
            if(objTimer == null)
                 objTimer = new javax.swing.Timer( 1000, new java.awt.event.ActionListener(){
                    public void actionPerformed( java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt){
                              SetState();
        private static void SetState(){
            if( objMainProcess == null ) return;
            synchronized( objMainProcess ) {
                bChanged = true;
                try{
                    objMainProcess.notify();
                }catch( IllegalMonitorStateException e ) {}
        private static boolean GetState() {
            if( objMainProcess == null ) return false;
            synchronized( objMainProcess ) {
                if( bChanged) {
                    SendMessage();
                    bChanged = false;
                    return true;
                try {
                    objMainProcess.wait();
                }catch( InterruptedException e ) {}
                return false;
        }

    Thanks DrClap for your reply. Everything you said is right. It is not easy to make them alternate since SetState() could be called from different places where the state could be anything else but a status message. Like a GREETING message for example. It is a handshaking message but not a status message.
    Again as you said, There is a reason I can't call sendMessage() inside setState().
    The only way I was able to do it is by having a counter of the number of notifies that have been called. Every time notify() is called a counter is incremented. Now instead of just checking if "changed" flag is true, I also check if notify counter is greater than zero. If both true, I send the message. If "changed" flag is false, I check again if the notify counter is greater than zero, I send the message. This way it works, but it is kind of a patch than a good design fix. I am yet to find a good solution.
    Thanks,
    B.D.

  • Problem with threads running javaw

    Hi,
    Having a problem with multi thread programming using client server sockets. The program works find when starting the the application in a console using java muti.java , but when using javaw multi.java the program doesnt die and have to kill it in the task manager. The program doesnt display any of my gui error messages either when the server disconnect the client. all works find in a console. any advice on this as I havent been able to understand why this is happening? any comment would be appreciated.
    troy.

    troy,
    Try and post a minimum code sample of your app which
    does not work.
    When using javaw, make sure you redirect the standard
    error and standard output streams to file.
    Graeme.Hi Graeme,
    I dont understand what you mean by redirection to file? some of my code below.
    The code works fine under a console, code is supposed to exit when the client (the other server )disconnects. the problem is that but the clientworker side of the code still works. which under console it doesnt.

  • Problem with threads and camera.

    Hi everybody!
    I've a problem with taking snapshot.
    I would like to display a loading screen after it take snapshot ( sometimes i
    have to wait few seconds after i took snapshot. Propably photo is being taken in time where i have to wait).
    I was trying to use threads but i didn't succeed.
    I made this code:
    display.setCurrent(perform);
            new Thread(new Runnable(){
                public void run() {
                    while((!performing.isShown()) && (backgroundCamera.isShown())){
                        Thread.yield();
                    notifyAll();
            }).start();
            new Thread(new Runnable(){
                public void run() {
                    try {
                        this.wait();
                    } catch(Exception e) {
                        exceptionHandler(e);
                    photo = camera.snapshot();
                    display.setCurrent(displayPhoto);
            }).start();This code is sometimes showing performing screen but sometimes no.
    I don't know why. In my opinion performing.isShown() method isn't working correctly.
    Does anyone have some idea how to use threads here?

    Hi,
    I've finally managed to work this fine.
    The code:
           Object o = new Object();
           display.setCurrent(perform);
            new Thread(new Runnable(){
                public void run() {
                    while(!performing.isShown()){
                        Thread.yield();
                   synchronized(o) {
                      o.notify();
            }).start();
            new Thread(new Runnable(){
                public void run() {
                    try {
                        synchronized(o) {
                           o.wait(1);
                    } catch(Exception e) {
                        exceptionHandler(e);
                    photo = camera.snapshot();
                    display.setCurrent(displayPhoto);
            }).start();
