What kind of G4 do you have? Is this a brand new machine, or a used or refurbished machine, and how old is it?

    Thanks
PS- NO problems with burning cds or importing cds before I UPDATED!!

I had the same problem although they didn't occur immediately after moving to a new drive but only after upgrading iTunes.
    Anyway, what I did was
    -delete "com.apple.iTunes.plist" from your Library
-start iTunes and configure it to use the default settings which among others will use your Home for storing the Music folder.
-when it's up and running change the Preferences/Advanced to use the Music folder on your external drive.
    -accept the dialogs
    Worked for me - ymmw

  • Problems With Disc Image

After I have finished my project, I choose to Save As Disc Image. From here I've been viewing my project using DVD Player. The problem is, when it plays back, there is one slide that I have deleted, but keeps showing up in playback and without a transition so it makes it look jerky. I don't know how to solve this. I've deleted and re-burned the project as a disc image 5 different times now, and I still have the same problem. Any ideas??

Hello...If this is a project that you did in iMovie first and then brought into iDVD, then this could be the problem.
If there was a transistion (sp?) before the slide in question, then you need to delete that trans. and you should the see the slide that keeps sneaking in. Once you have deleted those two items, you can then put your transistion in again and send to iDVD.

  • Problem with disc crash

My iMac's disk crashed yet again. Sometimes during software updates, the mac doesn't respond at all, and after a while, I just manually shut it down via the power button in the back. Now sometimes this results in my mac not booting (It stays on the gray screen with the pinwheel constantly spinning, and eventually the fan cranks to full and it still doesn't boot). This is one of those times. I run disk utility and it tells me the hard disk has an invalid node structure blah blah blah. I ran Diskwarrior on the disc and had it work to repbuild the disk, which it said it did, but I still can't boot up the mac. I am installing the OS on an external hard drive, which i've never done before and somehow I hope to recover the data that way. If you have a way in which I can get the data off the old hard drive it would be much appreciated or if you have other suggestions I could really use them. I can't lose the data on the drive. Thanks.

Boot from your install disc, and then try connecting to the external in Target Disk Mode and see if that works.

  • Problem with disc drive

I put a DVD into the computer, it played fine but when i tried to eject it the computer said there was no disc?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
    2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
    3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
    4. Press COMMAND-E.
    5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
         /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Problems with Disc Permissions for Java Virtual Machine

    hi,
My machine (10.6.6) crashed. I had the spinning beach ball.
Force Quit and On/Off did nothing.
I needed to unplug and remove the battery to restart.
After that, I did Repair Disk Permissions.
It finds a bunch of things for Java Virtual Machine/1.6.0/jdk
    It says it fixes it.
But if I reboot and and run Repair Disk Permissions again,
it still finds the same problems.
How do I get it fixed?

    Hi,
these permission errors are normal. There's nothing to be worried about. If you search around (you did search around first, right?) you'll find that most, if not all, Snow Leopard users see these messages.

  • Problem with nmh300

    Hi Everyone,
i have some problems with my nmh300
In past days sometimes the media hub were impossible to contact from the network.
I tried changing the network cable, but the only solution was to restart the media hub.
Today using the web configuration system, it reveals that there is a problem with disc in slot A.
Ok, i changed the disk (previously was raid 1), but the media hub seems in hung
After did a complete backup, i tried to do a reset (holding the reset but for 3 seconds), but now seems that default configuration was not reloaded.
I read in this forum a procedure for hard reset, but someone can give me a confirm of this procedure?
(press reset button for 10 seconds - remove power cable holding reset for other 10 seconds - replug power cable e still press reset for other 10 seconds, than release reset)
    hope someone can help me

    Hi kuzotare,
Yes, that's the best way to do a hard reset on a mediahub. After doing the reset, the default configurations should load up. Ensure as well that you are using a hard drive that is part of the hardware tested list (link).
    Cheers!

Danke.
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Ok plugged the original post into one of those free translators. I love how they translate hee hee.
The post translated from german to english:
Has assessed for short time that my computer problems with Disc images has. An inserted DVD becomes z. B. not on the desktop discarded and also not recognized. That is however not general the case, but rather only occasionally and also not always in the same DVD same.
A further example: Yesterday I downloaded the curds Update 7.2. The file became entpackt and the Disc image on the desktop discarded. This morning, when I wanted to install the Update then, was after the new start of the computer, that disappeared Disc image.
Would have already the access rights repaired remains, but the problem.
    Any proposals? Thanks.

  • Problems with Satellile L655-S5153

Hi all -- I own a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5153. A few weeks ago, while watching a video, the screen froze and we were unable to get the DVD player to acknowledge the disc. My wife and I chalked it up to a scratched disc from the library. However, when it happened again yesterday -- the CD/DVD will not read movies, though it will burn and read info off data discs -- I thought it might be the driver and I downloaded the CD/DVD driver from Toshiba's downloads section. That's when the real problems began. When I ran the .exe file, it just sort of 'bliped' for a second and nada. I attempted to system restore the machine back a couple weeks. Still no dice on the DVD player showing films. I turned the PC off and went to bed. Today, after getting home from work, my wife told me that the CPU was acting strangely. When I turned it on, it went into the blue screen of death, then to the "windows did not load properly." It went into system restore and failed. I tried it again and it failed again.  Through the advance menu I chose a system restore from the 15th and that brought back the PC to running function... but with some severe changes. The laptop does not correctly play VLC or Windows Media movies -- it plays the sound, but not the image. More importantly, the USB jacks will not acknowledge any sort of flash drive; sometimes they won't recognize the keyboard or the mouse. I have most of my data backed up but not all of it; thankfully, the DVD burner still seems to be functioning and I have 11 gigs or so of family film to burn . I've tried Device Manager and it shows the flash drive with an exclamation point and says it cannot read it. I tried several and they all worked on my Imac; troubleshooting does nothing and updating the driver simply gives me the message that I already have the most current one (Roll Back is not available). My question is, is this common with these laptops? Is there a way I can correct the machine withough reinstalling everything?

It sounds like you have a variety of problems. The problems with disc drive might have been a symptom rather than the actual problem.
If you've backed up your data and are comfortable doing it, you might want to do a full system recovery. Recovering your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system recovery will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide. To begin the recovery, hold the '0' (zero) key while booting the computer.

  • Problems with track pad and osx installation disc on macbok.

Okay so I am having two separate problems with my macbook.
First, the track pad, or the button beneath it, is pretty much completely out of commission. When I try and use it, the computer acts as if I am holding down the button all the time. Example, when I drag it across the desktop, the "click-and-drag" square starts appearing next to the cursor or when move the cursor on an icon, it tries to click and drag that. The only way that I can fix it thus far is to hook up my wireless mouse. Hoping someone else has a better solution so that I can continue to use the notebook on the go without having to bring the mouse. Note: the button does not appear to be depressed in anyway.
Second problem is happening when I attempt to reboot the computer with the OS X Leopard disk in for a re-installation. When the gray start-up screen appears, before the gray apple comes on the middle of the screen, a folder icon with a question mark on it appears for a split second and then turns into the normal apple icon after which my OSX disk is spit out of the drive and the computer boots straight to the desktop. I have attempted holding down the control button, the option button, and starting the process while the computer is still turned on and then just restarting it, the disc is ejected upon restart every time. I have reinstalled the OS with this disk once before and it has worked fine and other disks seem to be working fine in the drive, so I am at a lost here.
I know that was a lot of info but if anyone out there can help me out with either one of these problems it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

exactly the same issu with the track pad here.
I v tried to use it without the battery but the problem persist.
If I use an USB mouse i can move it arnd but wen I click or double click nothing happen...so is useless.Same problem with the Blur Tooth wireless mouse.
The issue appear several months ago...after a couple of weeks went away, and now is back again. I try the routine manteinance but nothing solved the issue.
Any suggestion? I have some urgent work to do ...I will try tomorrow to bring it in an apple store but I can't leave it with them ..
    Thanx in advance

  • Problem with bootcamp and windows xp disc

Hi! I've been using mac for about 3-4 years now and I am fairly acquainted with my Macbook pro.
My problems surfaced 2 days ago when a friend of mine opened it up and changed the harddrive to this: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/seagate_momentus_500gb/
My friend then did a clean install of OS X Snowleopard (not with the OS X-disc that came with my MBP) and all seemed to work fine.
But the problem is that my MBP don't seem to recognize or can't read Windows-installation DVD's. I insert the disc, the MBP reads the disc 2-3 times and then just spits it out. I have tried this with two diffrent Windows XP SP2 discs and one Windows 7 home disc with the same result.
Sometimes though (completely random) it seems to recognize the Windows disc and I can start the Windows installation via bootcamp, but halfway through the installation the disc still ejects.
The funny thing is that I ONLY have this problem with Windows-discs. OS X-discs, media-DVD's and unwritten CD's is no problem at all.
And I have repeatedly "repaired" and "reinstalled" OS X with both the snow leopard-disc and the OS X-discs that came with my MBP but I still get the same result. I have also tried SMC-resetting and doing a "safe start" but it still doesn't work.
    So... Halp? :3

  • Problems with set up disc after upgrading hard drive

I am having problems starting up my Macbook after upgrading the hard drive from 80GB to 160GB.  The new hd is SATA, a WDScorpio.  The pins on the end look the same, and I've had no problem with the physical install.  When I go to start up the Macbook, I get a gray screen and the "flashing manila file w/a question mark" icon.  I load the disc while holding down the "C" key, and all that happens is the disc gets ejected.  What am I doing wrong?  I also have my hd backed up w/time machine in an external hd.  Any ideas?

Turns out, my problem is a malfunctioning optical drive. My Macbook couldn't read the set up disc. This is the second time in a week that I have had this Macbook into the apple store for warranty repair work. Last week, It was a defective VGcable. Each trip to the Applestore is 115 miles round trip from where I live. I tried to get Apple to give me a new computer, but no dice. I even had a district manager in Boise Idaho hang up on me. It's too bad when they know they have a product which everyone loves, and wants to use. They can set the terms. How many things must go wrong before they just replace the @#$# thing? I bought the Macbook Feb 12th, so it's not that old. I have handled it with the utmost care. Anyway, I've tasted the forbidden fruit, and will continue to use Apple products. Thanks for your help. I'll probably have a much easier time with a computer that works. (knock on wood)

  • Problem with emergency bootable OS 9 disc

    My current systems:
    eMac(2001) OS 10.4/OS 9.2(Bad Condition)-can only be fixed under OS 9 (Norton 6 version)
180gb(Bad Condition) has OS 10.4/OS 9.2 -can only be fixed under OS 9 (Norton 6 version)
iBook G4 10.4 (Good Condition) but I'm highly suspicious the Priviliges may be messed up by one of the lastest security updates.
    56mb USB Flash Drive
    Step 1 :
Fix Bad Drives w/Norton 6 under OS 9 with emergency bootable repair disk I make.
1st. Problem "I can't successfully install OS 9 from the orginial eMac OS 9 Install Disc onto the temp partition w/out abnormally huge stall (makes me suspicious), compounded by a weird message from Norton saying it can't find a system folder, but then it finishes the install. Note: all files are there, for the OS and Norton, but the temp partition system folder doesn't seem blessed no matter how I try. I end up with an unbootable disc with Toast 6.07 and Toast 5.2 I get an error message of -36 when I try Mac Volume copy w/bootable tagged.
The orginial eMac OS 9 Install disc does work, but how would I install Norton? On a Ram Disk of some sort?
    -MAIN SYMPTOM-
Disk Image or Temp Partition seems to struggle with Privileges or identifing System Folders (Note: I have login'd in as SUPERUSER-option S at startup and/or NetInfo Adjustment)
I've made an emergency bootable disc before, and I'm sure my cd burner is working correctly, I'm pretty sure this is software or setting related. These are some of the routes I've taken: create temp. partition, mount, install OS, install Norton, toast(5.2) use Mac Volume or Toast 6 and later add Disc, drop in and place system folder in path, click copy db, add Desktop Folder, burn on Mac Only, and still no go.
    Have I overlooked something?
    Danno

That apart, are you saying create temp. partition,
mount, install OS, install Norton, toast(5.2) use Mac
Volume or Toast 6 and later add Disc, drop in and
place system folder in path, click copy db, add
Desktop Folder, burn on Mac Only… did produce a disk,
but the disk wouldn't boot, yes?
    Yes.
My experience in burning boot disks from 9 is that
they have to be built in an image file, not a normal
    folder.
Great - I have tried that, but get the same results. This is what I've done:
Make an image, read/write image with disc utilities, install OS - same problem of abnormal delay, when I do the i-option command on the image file, it ignores privileges and will not bless the systems folder.
I did the image file on Toast 6.07, and offhand, I'm not sure if it asked me for an HFS option, but I would have chose it if it did, as I know it is required for OS 9.
I've never tried using a temporary partition and I
guess you're doing that here to distance it from
possible previous damage, not because it has the same
effect as using an image file, yes?
No - I simply tried multiple options, especially those from the Roxio Toast site, since it suggested certain methods. I followed them as close as I could, but I don't recall the long delay on the previous OS 9 installs on any volume I've ever done before, that's why I'm suspicious of my privileges in regards to this issue.
Thank you for asking questions - I think it helps sort out my line of thinking for you guys to help me find a solution. Did you have any different technique with the image file? I'll try anything.

  • Instalation Disc Missing, problem with language setup

    Hello Microsoft
I have problem with installation of windows 7 home premium (x64). I got licence for polish edition of your OS. Now i was forced to reinstall this, but i lost my disc. I have found an english wersion of installation disc, so i thought hell yeah i will install
this and switch language later as many yours and external help sites says.
Well of course it can't be that easy, BECAUSE YOU HAVE BLOCKED LANGUAGE CHANGE in this particular OS.
So i would like to ask, can you provide a download link for polish installation disc for win home premium (x64)? (I have found lot of possible language versions but not polish)
By the way i have also tried to install language pack manually. What a suprise your clean fresh installed OS deletes any *.cab files, including the ones stored on external drives. I have my own *. cab packages with my personal files witch were also deleted
and if i had'nt made a backup - i would be seriously angry.
    With regards

Sorry, but how about we stay aut of "Basic FAQ" answers?
1.) Windows upgrade anytime is no longer avaible for online purchase - this is my message when i run upgrade as 2nd link follows.
2.) I don't understand why im am suposed to buy and upgrade to ultimate wersion when USA/UK, spanisch, french, dutch!, danish!, italian, german or even czech can download an installation disc easly?
Even for other foreign customers you are providing the download disc link on this support site like for example:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/where-can-i-download-windows-7-iso-i-have-a/7d964b05-2be9-4800-bc7f-3ca30356fc3d

P.S I really tried to look for answers myself, but most of the links even on microsoft support in other topics are DEAD or redirected to windows 8 store.

  • Problem with supplied OS X install discs

    hey everyone-
after reading around on here, I found out that using Migration Assistant to transfer the files from my G4 were possibly hurting my performance. I'd also read that the preferred course of action in this case was to archive and install.
well, I popped in my supplied OS X install dvd (1 of 2) and selected everything I wanted to install, and clicked OK. it installed everything off of that disc fine, but when I got to the second disc, I ran into problems. twice in a row the DVD burner (sony DW_D150A, according to System Profiler) spun down when the install item "Garageband Loops" was at 73%.
after spending about 20 minutes trying to get the computer OUT of installation mode (are you reading this apple? TOTAL PITA!!) and FINALLY succeeding (simply by shutting the computer down by holding the front power button for about 6-10 seconds), I re-inserted the FIRST install DVD and restarted holding C to start from the DVD.
I changed the install settings (hopefully to omit the garageband loops), and then it occurred to me to look at the second DVD. all around it, about half an inch from the outer edge, are circular "scratches". I use that term loosely, because it doesn't appear that there are any flaws in the plastic, and it actually looks like errors on the metal film itself! I tried installing again anyway, only to have it stall at Garageband Loops yet again, but this time at only 58%.
I just wanted to see if anyone else was having problems with this? I know I didn't check the DVDs to see if they had any markings on them when I got them, wanted to see if anyone else had these weird markings on their install DVDs.
    Zack

I had the same problem (though I didn't see the scratches) with either the Garageband Loops or I think there was something called System Sound Loops. Anyhow, I managed to get the install to work only after telling the installer not to install the problem file. I think Apple had a bad batch (or maybe we're just unlucky). I called support and had them send me a replacement set which I just got today.
