Problem with Dreamweaver CS4 workspace

Hi
I have just installed the Adobe CS4 Design Premium software on my Macbook Pro (OS X) and I have a problem or two with the Dreamweaver CS4 workspac:
1) When I have no file open, no matter which workspace I choose from the drop down list, I have a "see-through" area where files are generally displayed (see attached screen shot). This means I can see my desktop picture, or any other open files, in the background. This is very desturbing! If I click in that open space it also takes me out of Dreamweaver.
How can I get just a basic grey background in my workspace, instead of the silly see-though??
2) I have no close, minimize or maximize icons at the top left as I have in Photoshop or Lightroom!?!!  Why is this and how can I get it there?
Thank you very much in advance for anyone who can help!
Villiers Steyn

I have the same problem - just installed Dreamweaver yesterday on mac. Will be interested to see if anyone has a solution for this!

  • Synchronize problem with Dreamweaver CS4

    Hi all,
I was wondering whether any of you can offer any advice or help with a problem I have with Dreamweaver CS4.
The problem is regarding the Synchronize feature within Dreamweaver, for example after I have made a change to a web page and want to upload this to the internet, the software detects what files have changed which is fine but against the file it has the word and symbol called "Resolve" and this is where I am stuck because I cannot click on the Resolve button to change it to "Put" because the icon is grey so therfore I am unable to upload any changes to any websites.
If anybody can help me then it would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Hans- G
Many Thanks for this. I will go and have a look. It is strange as I have never experienced this problem before.

  • Problem with Dreamweaver CS4 after upgrade to Lion

I am having a problem after upgrading to Lion,  with my  Dreamweaver CS4 . When I try to use the bold button the text completely dissapears from the screen in design view The text is still there as it shows up in preview and also shows up in  code view. Has anyone else had similar problems since the upgrade? and is there going to be a fix for it.

There are a number of known compatibility issues with Creative Suites and Lion

I write a weekly blog/column using Dreamweaver CS4 and some of my readers who use Mozzila are saying that my column is not formatting correctly.
They can see it in IE and Safari no problem. Mozzilla is just not working.

    www.ralphspic.com
Checking that setting does not really give me any option. It's default is the CSS which is where it's at now.
But you're suggesting I set it to HTML?
    Thanks again.
If you go to the Modify->Page Properties, click on Title/Encoding.  That is where the doctype is set.  The DTD should be set to anything, right now browsers have to render in quirks mode because there is nothing.
Are you updating this whole thing manually strictly in DW?  I'm not sure of your hosting situation, but have you considered the pre-built solutions like a Wordpress?  Through out all the issues of designing/writing HTML and use an online based tool and editor like is built into that?

  • Image Link Problem with Dreamweaver CS4?

On my website, I have several images that link to other parts on my website. These work no problem when I preview the site, but after I test the links, the images that had those links have purple outlines that really clash with my website's design. Will users see this if they click on my links, and then return to the page? I'm using CS4 right now, and never recalled having this issue come up when using MX. Thanks for the help.

I got stuck on this one too - not realising that Dreamweaver automatically palces a border on every image link - but the simplest way I found was to have my "Properties" panel showing on the bottom and input 0 into the "Border" box. By having this panel open you can see if you have accidently applied any styles to the image, where it links to, Image size attributes and the Image name.

  • Screen DPI problems with Dreamweaver CS4

I am having the same problem in CS4 as many other posters here who work at higher than 96 DPI where the options are cut off in the properties section (screenshot by another user here: http://www.spinsister.nl/zandbak/propbar.htm ).  From what I have read by searching here and elsewhere on the web, the only "solution" is to scale my display back to 96 dpi.  Since I work on a laptop with a native resolution of 1900x1080 and my eyes are not the best, this isn't really an option.
My question is, does a way exist to change just the DPI settings for Dreamweaver so that it will display these elements properly?  I am using Windows7 64 and I have tried changing the compatibility settings to Disable display scaling on high DPI settings, but this does not fix the problem.  Is there another way to go about this?  I honestly can't work in 96 dpi all of the time and logging off and on everytime I want to use Dreamweaver (which is often) doesn't seem like a very elegant solution.
Does anyone know if a fix for this is being planned or if there is a better workaround than just reverting to a smaller dpi?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Dear Mike!
I've got the same problem but the eye problem as our frustrate fellow above!
For a while ago, I changed my DPI values to a higher one in order to match the actual screen size to my printer so I could get WYSWYG when I was doing a lot of printing job in PhotoShop.
By reading your contribution on this forum, it gave me the hint to lower my screen DPI value while I am working on DreamWeaver.
    It Worked! Thanks A LOT!
I appriciate your effort to register on this forum to help pepole like me...

  • Live picture problem with dreamweaver CS4

    Hi all,
I am having problems inserting images onto my website. In design view I can view all images perfectly, however when I run the website live the images fail to display. Instead of the picture, the name of the picture appears with a red error cross in a box. These pictures are in the appropriate format (e.gjpeg & gif) so I am very confused and not sure what to do.
I would really would appreciate if anyone could assist me with this.
    Thanks guys.

    Sure thing, code below;
      <div id="header">
        <h1 class="themaintext"><span class="verdana_font"><span class="headingmain"><img src="Images/Corgi Logo.jpg" alt="Corgi Logo" width="140" height="153" hspace="5" />A1 Home Services Ltd</span></span> </h1>

Ive also attached some of the images I am trying to put on the site. Thanks.

  • Problem with Dreamweaver cs4 tutorial

Hi I have been following the dreamweaver tutorial (go to http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_cs4_website_pt4.html)
All been well up until adding main image text.
It looks fine in design view (see snapshot attached) but when I go to look on browser it's not formatted at all.
    Please see link below.

My white text box was not where it was also (that is what my original problem was) and I managed to sort it myself! The problem was there was a space missing before the p tag.
Hmm, that's strange because the validator didn't pick up any coding errors... but happy for you that you found an error - that's progress !!  :-)
Thanks Nadia for recommending this tutorial. very informative. Now to see if I can try and fix all my website errors!
You're more than welcome.  Doing tutorials step by step is a good way to learn instead of plunging in the deep end and trying to create a site without now at least the basics.
    Good luck !

  • Problems controlling divs with dreamweaver cs4

Hi all, so I have been hard coding my website and have had great success with the layout and everything.  I am having trouble with dreamweaver cs4, does anyone know if cs4 is compatible with html5?  My silicone cupcake liners website looks great but a nice transition to dreamweaver would save a lot of work.

DWCS4 won't be able to correctly read the html5 semantic tags like <nav><aside> or <header> while in Live View. The built in version of the quasi-webkit browser is just too old.
Design View will work for the most part, but does get confused by certain things within HTML5 specific tags, so that will look even more broken than normal.
It also will not automatically generate any HTML5 specific code, there are no HTML5 menu options and there is no update to make it do that.
The program itself is no longer supported by Adobe, being the 5th version removed from "current"...

  • Css Tabs in Dreamweaver CS4 Workspace bug?/annoyance

Css Tabs in Dreamweaver CS4 Workspace. This is probably more
    of an
    annoyance than a bug.
When working with CSS, I use multiple CSS files and when I
    make a change
to one, I hit save (CTRL S)but it doesn't save the CSS file I
    was just
working on. In order to make it save that CSS file, I have to
    click on
one of the others and then back to the one I was just working
    on and
    then hit save.
    Kind of annoying, right?
I demand this to be fixed! ;)

    Art,
I guess you didn't understand what I meant by "focus". Let me
    try to
explain in terms of your recipe -- all you need is a slight
    change in
    workflow:
    > 1. Open page with multiple style sheets applied
    > 2. Have split screen
    > 3. click on one style sheet and edit it anywhere. After
    editing, the
    > rounded box will be black and have an asterisk applied
At this point, the style sheet has "focus", so click Ctrl+S
    now, before
you click back in Design View (which changes the "focus" back
    to the
    main document).
FYI, if you're clicking in Design View to update the
    rendering, you can
hit F5 to update the main document rendering without giving
    it "focus".
    > 4. Click back to page in design view.
    > 5. Click control save. It doesn't save the style sheet
    that is
    > highlighted and has an asterisk.
    > 6. In order to save you must "save all" or click off
    and then on

    Hope this helps,

  • What's up with DreamWeaver CS4?

D/W tells me it can't find the root folder so I go to "mangae sites", then edit, and show it where the site is located on my desktop, and I get this error message.
Then when I try to upload a file to my website I get this error message.
And yes I'd buy CS6 if I could afford it, who wouldn't. But $50 bucks a month is not something I can afford right now.
And it happens over and over again. I won't allow me to fix it. Even after many attempts. Has anybody an answer to this problem. Oh, and I'm using CS4 with Mac OS X version 10.9. I've been using this for years and have never had a problem till I bought a new MacBook Pro.
Thanks for your help, before the fact.

Thanks but I¹ve done that and it just keeps asking me to click on ³manage
site² and do it over and over again. I¹m wondering if perhaps when I bought
this new computer, and the had me change my user name on the computer by
putting a ³1² after it, if somehow that screwed the whole thing up and it
can no longer recognize any of it as a result?

I think that the error message is quite clear, there is a problem with the
mentioned page. Try renaming the document and see what happens.

  • Exploring Web Services with Dreamweaver CS4

How can you explore web services with Dreamweaver CS4? You
used to be able to go under Components and add Web Services and
enter the url for the WSDL (ex.
    http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?cid=70AAB).
How do you do that now in CS4?

Yeah, I knew there were several workspaces. I tried them all
but none showed the Components/Webservices tab.
That was an important tab for me since I do a lot of work
with cfcs in connection with Flex Builder 3.
I just hate having to go on Easter Egg hunts to find the
functions that have been there for years.
Like now I cannot copy and paste some code from one file to
another and the command tab bar is gone for the CFML commands.
It's just a real pain in rear end to have waste a bunch of
time locating where someone decided to bury stuff.

  • Problems with Photoshop cs4 for the Mac

I am having all kinds of problems with Photoshop CS4 for the Mac.  When I boot the software it seems to work for a while then, I am unable to open upf a file in Photoshop.  I drag a photoshop file over the application icon, the whole screen flickers and nothing happens.  I am unable to quit Photoshop as the quit choice is grayed out and command-q will not make it quit. I have to force quit.  I can repeat this pattern over and over.  What is happening?  How do I solve this problem?
    --Kenoli

Thanks for the reply.  I am using  Photoshop 11.0.1.  I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard.  I have found both Photoshop and Dreamweaver to be pretty buggy for several versions now.  My suspicions were that they were really engineered for Windows and never really fully implemented for the Mac.  Dreamweaver crashes or hangs on me three or four times a day if I us it all day and does various annoying things like refusing to respond to the delete key after I have used it for a while.  I have pretty much stopped using it to some degree for that reason and also because there is other software that does a lot of coding things I do much more directly and simply.  Also Dreamweaver always seems to struggle to quit when I tell it to quit (that is, it takes a long time and gets hung up at places before it quits) and once it does quit, I always get a message saying that it has unexpectedly quit (even when I have told it to quit).
The problems with Photoshop  (starting with just taking a long time to load)  have escalated to the point I described today, which makes it almost unusable. I just reinstalled Snow Leopard to see if there was anything buggy in the system software.  I will report if problems go away.
Regarding both the refusal to open image files and the grayed out quit command, made me think something like you, i.e. there was some dialogue box open somewhere.  However, I couldn't find anything and I don't use two monitors.
So . . . Adobe just seems to be getting more expensive and more buggy.
Incidentally, why is it still running in Rosetta rather than natively?  Adobe now has a real Intel processor to work with.

  • Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
    1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
    Fatal error - missing component
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
    2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.
    Thanks!

Did you use Apple's migration tool?  It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.
