Problem with DW-Q28A internal burner

Looking at this board, I know that others have had all kinds of problems with this burner - DW-Q28A. I can't find one solution, however. Here's my problem. Using Toast 6.1.1, I'm able to burn a DVD with success. That DVD will play in the burner and my set top DVD player. However, the DVD will not play in any other computer drive. The other computers try to read it and then eject the disc. And this is happening on client computers that I'm sending the DVD's to. Is this burner just junk? I've had this computer with the burner for about a year and have random problems throughout the year. I have a Plextor external burner on another computer that is rock solid. Never a problem. I'm I going to have to replace this drive? Doesn't seem right - it's barely a year old.

It may need a cleaning, go to your local office supply store and buy a DVD/CD cleaning kit which will clean the laser in your drive.
Sometimes resetting the PRAM takes 2-3 attemps so try at least 2 more times and while you are it also reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back. The correct instructions for both can be located by clicking Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • Problem with Emailing the Internal table data as an excel attachment

    Hi Friends,
I am facing problem with Emailing an internal table data as an excel file. I am using standard function module "SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1" which is using SOLI structure can have record with 255 character length. But my Internal table having each record means after concatenating all the fields it is going to be morethan 450 characters. so i t is not displaying all the data in excel file.
Can somebody help me if there is any other function module or any other way that i need to follow.
    thanks for help
    venkat.

You must use the the :
CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>HORIZONTAL_TAB as a field seperator and
    CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES=>CR_LF as a record seperator.

  • Problem with external LaCie dvd burner

This is not strictly a Mac question but I have a firewire LaCie cd/dvd burner that has stopped recognizing any cds. When you insert a cd it clicks and the light blinks forever. It has no problems with dvds. Could this just need to have the lens cleaned or is it on its way out? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I know that it would be better to talk to the manufacturer but it is extremely difficult to contact LaCie tech support now. One used to be able to just e-mail them a question but now it ain't that simple. Just thought I'd see if anyone else had a similar problem with a cd/dvd burner.

  • IDVD - problem with playability of DVDs burned

    Hello -
I'm experiencing trouble when I export a Quicktime file from my Final Cut Pro 5 to burn to a DVD using iDVD5 on my home computer. All worked fine up until about a month ago. I'm unclear what I could have changed in terms of settings at that time that's caused the problem, but here is the situation I'm now experiencing:
When I burn a DVD using my iDVD5, the DVD will play in a computer, but it is not readable on a normal DVD player. It's unrecognized as a playable DVD.
If I take the exact same Quicktime file and the exact same blank DVD (I'm currently using blanks that are TDK DVD-R) over to a friend's house and burn the DVD using his iDVD, the DVD is playable in a DVD player and works just fine.
So something in my iDVD settings seems to have gotten very badly messed up. What can I do to fix this?
Many thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

It looks like it would cost as much to buy a new external DVD burner as it would to have the internal one for my computer fixed,...?!
    True!
EDIT: You have a G5 iMac ...correct? If I'm not mistaken, it too has a smaller slot loading S-Drive.
Yours might looks somewhat like this:
If so, then it too could experience the above symptoms of overheating after multiple consecutive burns/ back to back DVD's.

  • Problem with downloading the internal table onto the presentation server.

    Hey folks,
I have a problem where in i am downloading one year of sales done by the company. I wrote a program to download the file onto the presentation server . The error occurs in the FM GUI_DOWNLOAD where if the file exceeds 105843504 bytes its giving me a dump saying that
When the program was running , it was established that more memory was needed than the operating system is able to safely to provide.
The current program has to be terminted because of the program already requested 105843504 bytes from the operating system with malloc when the operating system reported after further memory request that there was no more memory space available.
Could somebody provide an alternative soltuion for this.
Its really urgent as i can download the file with 70,000,000 bytes
    Regards
    Rock

    Hi Rock,
Please download the files on to Application Server, else as suggested by Ashish download into 2 or 3 files and merge them manually.
Declare same internal tables may be 5 times.
When you fill the internal table check for a counter and when you hit a certain number stop appending to it and start appending to the next.
After you are done so download all the internal tables.
I guess this would be a good way. I am not sure if there are any ther alternative good methods.
    Hope this helps.

  • Interlacing problems with iDVD Preview and burning - comb effect appalling.

When using iDVD to burn content onto DVDs, I suffer from "comb effect" interlacing related problems both in the iDVD Preview and with the final product played on a computer. I have yet to play the disc in a "real" DVD player.
I am editing HDV (60i) footage with FCE 4, exporting (both interlaced and de-interlaced - same problem) to 1920x1080 HD at a Quicktime movie, and then importing the clips to iDVD.
The clips are short (under 10 minutes) and play back perfectly on Quicktime.
Once imported to iDVD, the iDVD Preview displays (especially with motion scenes) four areas of horizontal jagged edge areas, which are spectacularly distracting.
    Here is an example:
    http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u4/praxisuniversal/InterlacingProblem.jpg
I have tried various settings using iDVD, but have not been met with success. In other, similar discussions, people have had luck with other software programs, but I am reluctant to spend great gobs of money if the Apple Discussion Brain Trust can find a way to circumvent.
    Thanks!

  • PROBLEMS WITH PLAYBACK ON DVDS - BURNED WITH iDVD8

Can anyone tell me what is the best speed to use when burning a DVD. I have been using the maximum speed (which I believe my computer defaults to). When I play back on a DVD player it will freeze in certain parts. When I have finished burning the DVD I have noticed grease marks and other small marks on the disc. I have been told it is because I am burning them too fast. I have since tried using 2X and am having the same problem. I am using IDVD8 and DVD-R discs.

It may be the brand of disc. Try Verbatim DVD-R or Verbatim DVD+R DL.

  • Problem with sound from internal speakers

I have rescued an 867 hz TiBook from the trash heap. This machine was being discarded because it wouldn't wake up (just did this red, blue, yellow flashing thing, so it had to be restarted everytime it went to sleep) and because the internal speakers had stopped working. I took off the keyboard and flashed the pram, reset everything, wiped the hard drive and installed Leopard. This seems to have fixed the sleep issue but there is still no sound from the speakers. The headphone jack works fine, the built-in mic works and there IS an option for internals as the output in prefs, so it's not the headphone jack problem I've read about. I've searched and searched but I can't seem to find a solution that works... anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Mr. Waters,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You may want to at least follow the wires back from the speakers and see that they're connected, but it's likely the sound card which is unfortunately soldered onto the logic board. If so, the repair would mean replacing the logic board, rather expensive and not easy. Still a nice find for free.

I did have the same problem and it took me several hours to figure it out. Here is what I did, it might be useful for others later.
I have a number of opened projects and needed to reference them in my ant build.xml
The program runs fine from eclipse, but dies when I run the created jar file from command line.
The line of code where it stopped was
    JAXBContext context = JAXBContext.newInstance(jaxbPackage);
with the above InternalError printstack printed. Which was not really informative.
Apparently, one of the referenced projects indirectly required other projects which I did not mention in my build.xml It was obviously the packaging problem.
You can also check the version of you jvm in your terminal and in your eclipse; check the class path in eclipse and temporarily add all the missing lines to your CLASSPATH. If the problem goes away, you can easily figure out which class path was missing.

  • IDVD right format, problem with autoplay & long rendering/burning time??

I have a couple of questions, I am getting hdv3 codec, .mov files from a supplier. These I realised I cannot watch, edit or further use without having FCS Pro installed.
However I want to burn a SD-DVD with a Intro, Menu and Video all in high quality and 16:9 Scale.
So my question is in what format should I order/get the Videos in order to use them in iDVD? I have tried one different type already, a simple MPEG-2 .mov file including audio. However when I input the DVD in my Harddrive or on any Harddrive on a computer the autoplay function does simply not start up. (Yet, I can play using right-click, play/open with.. etc. and select the player)
Also this burning process took 30-40 min. for a 1min 30sec movie.. (I guess it was the rendering, but is this normal???) And can I downscale this consumption of time without large quality loss?
    Thanks for answers & help!!!
    Nik

Here is how I would order them:
    - 853x480 pixels (more on this below...)
    - 30 fps with progressive encoding (however, iDVD will probably convert it to interlaced)
    - Motion JPEG at highest quality
*The 853x480 pixel thing:* I have found that if you let iDVD ingest a video not at these exact dimensions, assuming it is for a 16:9 DVD, iDVD will apply a horrible resize filter to the video which will make it very blocky and ugly. Basically, just do the conversion in QuickTime before you give it to iDVD.
I am not sure why this would be happening:

For the last part of your question: depending on the speed of your computer and what quality settings you choose in iDVD, especially if you have a large, intricate DVD menu, this encoding time is absolutely reasonable. Unfortunately, there is really no way to reduce encoding times without decreasing quality. HOWEVER, I would still try the other quality settings in iDVD; you may notice no difference in the quality, but the end file size may be bigger to compensate for the shorter encode time.
    Hope this helps,

  • HT203164 Problems with "cloud" music and burning CDs

I  moved my iTunes library to a new computer & now the majority of songs will not burn to CD.  It says they are stored in the cloud & cannot be burned from there. There is a cloud next to songs in my music list. I did not subscibe to Match or Cloud and yet I am prevented from burning CDs as I have in the past.  Seems like every time I download an updated iTunes, it is more complicated and cofusing than the last.  Apple custermer service is no help, as you cannot contact them via email and then only if you have a valid serial number for a product.
How do I burn CDs from the new iTunes that has Cloud blocking it.

    Where is your back up?

  • Problems with burned DVD in iDVD - Works in some players, not in others

Hi, I'm having a strange problem with a DVD I burned in iDVD.
I have a disc image that I made in iDVD and then burn the Audio_TS and Video_TS folders to a DVD.
    I burned to a Memorex DVD+R.
The video pops up fine and plays on my computer after it burns, but if I eject the disc and try to re-insert it, the DVD preview says "Supported disc not found". It did this same thing when I tried it in my Macbook.
It works fine in my standard DVD player, but I also tried it on my Playstation 3 and it did not play.
A few things I am going to try is buring directly from iDVD instead of first making a disc image, and also using DVD-R, although I heard that DVD+R is generally a better format to use.
Someone also told me that DVD+R does not play on macs, which I question.
If anyone has any other suggestions or might know why this is happening, I would greatly appreciate it. It is an important project that needs to be done soon! Thanks.

The disc image option is within iDVD: File > Save as Disc Image. If you switch to DVD map map mode you can drag your movie to a spot prior to the menu so that the movie plays automatically when put into the player. Under advanced, you can set the movie to loop.... otherwise I think it goes back to the menu when done playing. BTW, all DVDs MUST have a menu it is part of the DVD specification. It is just a matter of whether you see the menu. As far as exporting your project back to tape... you won't loose any quality and your audio, along with your video and any editing to each will export back to tape. However, a MP3 is not generally considered a higher quality file (although perhaps the recorder was closer to the source?). As a matter of fact, if you are editing your audio I strongly suggest using a file sampled at at least 16-bit/48Khz, AIFF (or WAV or anything lossless).
In regards to the slow burn speed: I agree that a slower burn speed is better than the fastest burn speed (due to error corrections ect). However, I would choose a middle of the road burn speed. If my choices are 4x, 6x, or 8x, I would choose 6x. If it is 2x, 4x, 6x, I would choose 4x. And yes, quality of blank media can effect the playback of a disc that played once just fine.

  • Problems with Quicktime Conversion, FCE2

I am having problems using quicktime conversion. I want to export a 4 minute sequence into uncompressed AVI.
Each time i do this i get an almost 4 gb file that is only the first 18 seconds of the sequence. (when i export to WMV I get the same problem, except its 30 seconds)
I can export using compressed AVIs (such as DV-PAL), but the quality is not too good.
I am simply trying to get the best quality and most-universally useable file to write out onto a data DVD.
    Any ideas/suggestions anyone?
I have am using a PowerPC G4 laptop, FCE2, OSX tiger....
Further problems: when i write this movie out to DVD with iDVD, and when it is in NTSC setting, black white lines appear on top of the black background parts in the movie, rather sporadically. I have written it out 3 or 4 times, and each time the frequency of the lines is different, but each DVD is unusable. In PAL setting this doesnt happen, but of course the quality is diminished, as the orig. footage was taken on an NTSC camera. I am in Europe, so this PAL/NTSC conversion thing is a neverending problem.... Is this an iDVD problem or a problem with my laptop's burner?
    Daniel

    Dear Tom,
I appreciate you replying to my post, and am sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but i never received an email notification of a reply.
The Nattress solution seems like a good route - is this compatible with FC Express 2?
The purpose of this AVI export is to have the highest possible quality file in data form, which the (PC using) client will then be able to write out onto DVD, convert/edit himself, etc. I have written out the self-contained QuicktimeMovie data file for him, but he is unable to open that. When i write out the AVI file, it is over 4 times as big as the QTmovie file and only plays for the first 18 seconds.
I am exporting to my internal harddrive (laptop).
The end goal is to get this file eventually onto a PAL-BETA video. This is where the NTSC-PAL conversion problem comes in, and maybe the Nattress program could be the solution (although it initially seems a bit complicated to me).
Another important part of this problem, is that iDVD writes out the original NTSC file with funny white lines going across the black backgrounds - so I cant write the best quality NTSC video onto DVD properly either. Each time I write it out, the frequency of these white lines is different. I dont know if this is a related problem, a Final Cut Express export problem, an iDVD problem, or a problem with my DVD writer. (I made the movie, exported it self-contained QTmov, imported it into a new file, did some color-correction, and exported the new final version. - maybe the problem stems from within this simple process? ? ? )
(Regarding the WMV export: this is not so important, lets not deal with this now. I have flip4mac, downloaded free. My experience is that it doesnt really work.)
    So... any ideas or suggestions?
    i appreciate your help,
    Daniel
