Problem with Dynamic Calc members in calc script

Hi
i wrote a calc script which calculates the value of acct2 which is dependant on the value of acct1 that is calculated from acct0 as bellow:
FIX(
M1
acct1(
acct1=acct0->M2;
acct2=acct1->M2;
ENDFIX
the value of the intersection of M1->acct0 is 100 as input ,what i wanted from this calc script is the acct2->M1 to be 100 after executing the script once
but the fact is i have to run it twice to get the expected result.
the outline is like this:
M:
M2 Dynamic calc M2=M0+M1
M0 Stored
m1 stored
Account:
acct0 stored
acct1 stored
acct2 stored
Can anyone tell me the reason and how to solve it?

Is acct1 correct after one run of the calculation, but acct2 incorrect? If so, it's because Essbase is calculating them both at the same time (parallel), whereas it has to be forced to calculate acct1 first and acct2 second. You can do this with separate fixes as below:
FIX(M1)
acct1=acct0->M2;
ENDFIX
FIX(M2)
acct2=acct1->M2;
ENDFIX
Or, you can you can force it into calculating in serial mode:
SET CALCPARALLEL 0;
FIX(M1)
acct1=acct0->M2;
acct2=acct1->M2;
ENDFIX

  • Peculiar problem with Essbase (Calc Script) - substitution variable / UDAs

    This is odd but I have a script like :
    VAR iloop=1,break=0;
    FIX(<required POV>)
    Loop (20,break)
    VAR Country_total1,Country_total2,Country_total3;
    FIX (@UDA(Entity,@ALIAS(@CONCATENATE("&Country",iloop)))) // &Country1, &Country2 - are substitution variables with UDAs stored as strings
    Statements;
    /* +<statements for calculating total values.. for that country and stored against variables>+ */
    Country_total1=Country_total1+ +<Calculation>+
    ENDFIX
    /* Second part : Now again the calculations stored in the variables are to be stored against specific entities */
    FIX (@UDA(Entity,@ALIAS(@CONCATENATE("&Country",iloop))))
    FIX(@ISUDA(Entity,<Check1>)
    ..... Assign to relevant account
    ENDFIX
    ENDFIX
    ENDLOOP
    ENDFIX
    Now the problem is that the first fix statement works just fine, but the FIX statement in the 'second part' throws an error
    Error: 1200354 Error parsing formula for [FIX STATEMENT] (line 66): expected type [STRING] found [EXTVAR] ([iloop]) in function [@CONCATENATE]
    If I hard code the 'second part' FIX statement to the substitution variable directly - it works just fine.
    How can the first statement work and not the second one ? They are exactly the same.

    Glenn, thanks - I hadn't thought of that :).
    But it still does not entirely solve my problem (please see my previous post depicting a requirement similar to ours )
    - We have lots of countries (50-60+ might be much more) and each country can have multiple entities (3-4 on an average - can go unto 7-8)
    - so good guess would be around 200 entities
    - So say I have to do it for 2 countries only (two entity types). Then I need 4 variables - 2 for each country ('country 1 ET1 total', 'Country 1 ET2 Total')
    When the list is 20 counties - variables become 40 :(.
    - Still leaving aside the 40 variables for a bit -
    There are subsequent steps of calculations which needs to be done based on these totals (which are exactly the same for all countries) - just that we need the correct totals to begin with and the rest is already stored in the DB
    So since I have a different variable for each country - I cannot write one single calculation block to use the variables sequentially one by one (can I ?)
    I might have to write a separate calculation block for each of these countries. (20 separate blocks)
    That's what I was trying to avoid and simplify with the substitution variable (but is not working)
    - Create substitution variables - which would store the alias of the required countries (2/10/20 as many required)
    - Loop through these substitution variables - using them one by one
    - So I just need one single block of calculation with all the variable in the calc script being reused after each country calculation is done
    - and the user need not go into the script, as the only thing that will change are the countries. And he can change it easily through the substitution variable.

  • After Effects won't close/Problems with dynamic links

    When I quit After Effects the icon still shows up and it says that it is still open, even force quit will not work. Also having problems with dynamically linked files between after effects and Premiere pro. Rendering in Premiere doesn't work unless I go to AE, save the project, then go back to Premiere. I have OSX Mavericks 10.9.2, a late 2012 mac pro, and AE CC 12.2.1.5

    Kevin: would appreciate further thoughts on this.
    I am using Pr2014, version 8.0.0 I am using AE2014, version 13.0.2.3. When I was on earlier versions of each, I had no problem importing AE comps into Pr. I'd choose import in Pr, then select the AE project, then select the comp. But with my new and improved versions of AE and Pr, I keep getting "importer reported a generic error."
    I also tried to go the other way. I selected in Pr the clips I wanted to work on in AE, and then tried "replace with AE comp" but got the "generic error" message again..
    Finally, I attempted to create a Dynamic Link from Pr via the File menu, but with each of the options from there, I got "failed to connect to AE Dynamic Link"
    Any advice you can share, would be most welcome.

  • Problem with a calc involving @MDSHIFT and Dynamic Calc

    Hi all,
    I have a problem with the calculation of a member in a calc script. The formula of this member is :
    "R70100"
    IF(@ISMBR("M01"))
    ("T_008"->"Cumul"->"HT"+"T_003"->"Cumul"->"HT")*"AVCT_PR" - @MDSHIFT("R70100" -> "Cumul" -> "HT" -> "M12", -1, "Year", );
    ELSE
    ("T_008"->"Cumul"->"HT"+"T_003"->"Cumul"->"HT")*"AVCT_PR" - @MDSHIFT("R70100" -> "Cumul" -> "HT", -1, "Period", );
    ENDIF
    - R70100 is a member of a dense dimension.
    - T_008, T_003 and AVCT_PR are spare and stored.
    - "Cumul" is a dynamic member which allow us to calculate cumulative from monthly.
    - Time is split into two dimensions, Period and Year.
    The problem is that the @MDSHIFT doesn't seems to work with the dynamic calc as the monthly result is the cumulative correct value. I didn't know what is wrong BUT each time I launch the script, values are good for one more month.
    After one run, for example, I obtained this result :
    !http://zenon.apartia.fr/stuff/200910070001.GIF!
    Two run later, here are the news values :
    !http://zenon.apartia.fr/stuff/200910070002.GIF!
    Any idea on what going on and how to correct it ? Thanks !
    Frédéric

    A couple of questions for you:
    1) Do you need the overhead of @MDSHIFT when you are only moving in one dimension? Wouldn't @PRIOR have been a lot easier? At least this is true for the ELSE condition.
    2) Could you post just the results of the @MDSHIFT calculation so we (okay, this may be just for me, it's still breakfast time here and not enough coffee has been ingested yet to read a spreadsheet without recourse to the formulas) can better see the impact?
    3) Have you tried using your code against a non-dynamic member? Does it make a difference?

  • Retrieval performance become poor with dynamic calc members with formulas

    We are facing the retrieval performance issue on our partititon cube.
    It was fine before applying the member formulas for 4 of measures and made them dynamic calc.
    The retrieval time has increased from 1sec to 5 sec.
    Here is the main formula on a member, and all these members are dynamic calc (having member formula)

    I received the following from Hyperion. I had the customer add the following line to their essbase.cfg file and it increased their performance of Analyzer retrieval from 30 seconds to 0.4 seconds. CalcReuseDynCalcBlocks FALSE This is an undocumented setting (will be documented in Essbase v6.2.3). Here is a brief explanation of this setting from development: This setting is used to turn off a method of reusing dynamically calculated values during retrievals. The method is turned on by default and can speed up retrievals when it involves a large number of dynamically calculated blocks that are each required to compute several other blocks. This may happen when there is a big hierarchy of sparse dynamic calc members. However, a large dynamic calculator cache size or a large value of CALCLOCKBLOCK may adversely affect the retrieval performance when this method is used. In such cases, the method should be turned off by setting CalcReuseDynCalcBlocks to FALSE in the essbase.cfg file. Only retrievals are affected by this setting.

  • Help with Dynamic Calc

    Hello, could someone help me why after creating the dynamic calc member below, our calc script somehow get stuck/ ran very very slow...
    Below is currently our Hierararchy for Division dimension:
    Division Dimension
    Division Rollup ( Never Share)
    Division 1 ( Never Share)
    Division a (Never Share) level 0
    Division b (Never Share) level 0
    Division c (Never Share) level 0
    Division 2 (Never Share)
    Division d ( Never Share) level 0
    Alt_Division without cd (Dynamic Calc) ...and the member formula I did is
    ="Division Rollup" - "Division c" - "Division d" ;
    After I refresh, the Alt_Division without cd went fine, calculated correctly when I retreive in Essbase Escel , however, the big problem was, when we run our aregular Essbase calc scripts, it somehow got stuck with Alt_Division without cd member and the calc went very very slow almost to the point that it just stopped calcing.
    Could you please let me know if there is something wrong with my dynamic calc member above... Should the Alt_Division dynamic calc should not be a sibling of the Division Rollup member? or I could not use the "Division Rollup" member .
    Could you please recommend a better way of writing the dynamic calc member ( and it's position in the Hierarchy) ... without me aggregarting the dbase ...( I like dynamic calc since it aggs on the fly).
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

    Few Things...
    I am assuming Division is a sparse Dimension. A Dynamic Calc member formula on a Sparse dimension member will surely take lots of time.
    Suggestion 1:
    Create an Alternate hierarchy sharing c and d. Change the consolidation operators to get the C - D at Alt_Hierarchy.
    Suggestion 2:
    Make the member Store and put the desired calculation in a Calculation script rather than having it as a dynamic calc member formula.
    Hope this helps.

  • Retrive time with Dynamic Calc

    Hi Experts,
    My users run a large smart view report which works well
    However, when they change one of the member on the query to DC member (dense)
    Then the retrieve takes forever and they getting network error from smart view.
    I try to figure out , how can I improve the retrieve time on my BSO app, focusing on DC issues
    I try to increase the data cache, index cache, retrieval buffer and sort.

    Many thanks,

    I'll add on to Dan's comment that you very much need to test the dynamic calc (if indeed that is the problem) in the proper context.
    Amusing but painful story:
    I was once tasked with reducing calc time on a BSO database. i saw long ugly stored member calcs. Hah! I cleverly converted them to dynamic and calc times dropped. No one told me (and I didn't ask) how they were to be reported. There were thousands of instances of this member on the Excel sheet. What had been a nice fast retrieve dropped to five minutes. Whoops.
    Take your pain wherever you like -- if you are reading multiple blocks to do the calc (my guess) nothing on earth is going to make it fast. Why make it dynamic in the first place? How many times is the member retrieved? Is it all in the block or, as i guessed, across multiple blocks?
    Last comment -- again (this is getting boring) I agree with Dan -- caches are not, usually, the source of any performance joy and it always comes down to design.

  • Trouble with Dynamic Calc Scenario

    We have built a dynamic Calc scenario in our first 11.1.2 Planning environment that works fine in web forms; Forecast vs Prior Forecast Version. However, when we created our second environment the dyanmic scenario is now causing errors with the web forms. I am getting the generic Data form is invalid, check log for details.
    I have isolated the problem to this one scenario. We have three other dynamic scenarios on the form and they work fine.
    The formula on the scenario below which is not working does reference another dynamic scenario (Prior Forecast Version, which is working).
    Forecast vs Prior Forecast (Scenario not working)
    "Forecast" - "Prior Forecast Version";
    Prior Forecast Version works fine and here is that formula:
    if (@ISMBR("Final"))
    "Forecast"->&FcstPF;
    elseif (@ISMBR("Final_Jul"))
    "Budget"->"Final";
    else
    @PRIOR("Forecast", 1, @RELATIVE("Version", 0));
    endif;
    The Prior Forecast Version is before the Forecast vs Prior Forecast in the outline.
    I have checked the formulas and settings on each one and they are the same in both environments. We used LCM to build the second environment.
    Any suggestions on where to look next?
    I am not finding anything in the planning logs that seems to help, do I need to turn on auditing first to get information from the planning logs when you get the generic Check Planning Log for Details message?
    Thanks.

    I haven't check the essbase log but will do so. I thought I checked the correct planning log, but looking at the path I was using, I might have been looking for the log in the wrong place. I was using the path from the troubleshooting guide but it was the diagnostic logs and maybe that is only the correct one when we have auditing turned on.
    Help on the path to the correct planning log would be great. I was looking in middleware/user_projects/epmsystem1/diagnostics/logs
    Thanks.

  • Essbase : Order evalution with dynamic Calc : Account x Scenario

    Hi everybody,
    I'm trying to calculate a variation N / N-1 in % for All Accounts.
    basically : %/ N-1 = (Actual- Actual N-1) / Actual N-1 - I create a scenario.
    I create a scenario %_N_1 which is Dynamic Calc.
    "%_N_1" = ("ACTUAL" - @MDSHIFT( "ACTUAL" , -1 , "Year" , ))/@MDSHIFT( "ACTUAL" , -1 , "Year" , )*100;
    But with agregated Accounts (which are dynamic calc also), Essbase sums the % ... which is wrong !!!
    Question : How could we set the priority between Scenario and Account for Dynamic Calculation.
    regards,
    ps : I want not to put this calculation in Financial Reporting, because there are a lot of reports that use this measure : %_N_1 !

    Two-pass Calc
    You should basically put this on every formula that is a % to make sure it happens after the aggregation stuff.
    It get's tricky if you did two-pass on two pass but I believe you aren't using two-pass so you should be good to go

  • Devtools update causes problems with sudo when used in a script?

    I'm a little confused by this one, but I'm not convinced that it's a bug.. yet.
    Long story short, I compile packages using the ABS via a script/wrapper which uses devtools. The script is available here: https://github.com/WorMzy/compilepackage
    Now, this script is far from perfect, but has worked perfectly well (in various states of completeness) for the past year or so. However, with the recent update of devtools (20120720-1 => 20121013-1), my script fails to execute correctly. After entering the password when prompted (by sudo, at this line: https://github.com/WorMzy/compilepackag … tions#L107), the script terminates unexpectedly.
    Downgrading devtools "fixes" this problem, but I'm not sure if this is a bug in devtools, sudo, zsh, my script, or something else.

    Update: It appears that the cause is systemd's nspawn. Disabling it in mkarchroot (have_nspawn=0) resolves the problem.
    However, I don't understand why it's causing this behaviour. User input works fine for the sudo password prompt, but then fails for the pacman user prompt? Do they use different input buffers or something? Does that question even make sense?
    Anyway, I'll open a bug report on flyspray and upstream about this when I get the chance.

  • Problem with dynamic LOV and function

    Hello all!
    I'm having a problem with a dynamic lov in APEX 3.0.1.00.08. Hope you can help me!
    I have Report and Form application. On the Form page i have a Page Item (Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value)).
    When i submit the sql code in the 'List of vaules defention' box. I get the following message;
    1 error has occurred
    LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query.
    When i excecute the code below in TOAD or in the SQL Workshop it returns the values i want to see. But somehow APEX doesn't like the sql....
    SELECT REC_OMSCHRIJVING d, REC_DNS_ID r FROM
    TABLE(CAST(return_dns_lov_fn(:P2_DNS_ID) AS dns_table_type)) order by 1
    returns_dns_lov_fn is a function, code is below;
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION DRSSYS.return_dns_lov_fn (p2_dns_id number)
    RETURN dns_table_type
    AS
    v_data dns_table_type := dns_table_type ();
    BEGIN
    IF p2_dns_id = 2
    THEN
    FOR c IN (SELECT dns_id dns, omschrijving oms
    FROM d_status dst
    WHERE dst.dns_id IN (8, 10))
    LOOP
    v_data.EXTEND;
    v_data (v_data.COUNT) := dns_rectype (c.dns, c.oms);
    END LOOP;
    RETURN v_data;
    END IF;
    END;
    and the types;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE DRSSYS.dns_rectype AS OBJECT (rec_dns_id NUMBER, rec_omschrijving VARCHAR2(255));
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE DRSSYS.dns_table_type AS TABLE OF dns_rectype;
    I tried some things i found on this forum, but they didn't work as well;
    SELECT REC_OMSCHRIJVING display_value, REC_DNS_ID result_display FROM
    TABLE(CAST(return_dns_lov_fn(:P2_DNS_ID) AS dns_table_type)) order by 1
    SELECT REC_OMSCHRIJVING display_value d, REC_DNS_ID result_display r FROM
    TABLE(CAST(return_dns_lov_fn(:P2_DNS_ID) AS dns_table_type)) order by 1
    SELECT a.REC_OMSCHRIJVING display_value, a.REC_DNS_ID result_display FROM
    TABLE(CAST(return_dns_lov_fn(:P2_DNS_ID) AS dns_table_type)) a order by 1

    I just had the same problem when I used a function in a where clause.
    I have a function that checks if the current user has acces or not (returning varchar 'Y' or 'N').
    In where clause I have this:
    where myFunction(:user, somePK) = 'Y'
    It seems that when APEX checked if my query was valid, my function triggered and exception.
    As Varad pointed out, check for exception that could be triggered by a null 'p2_dns_id'
    Hope that helped you out.

  • Oracle 9i, Rel.2 - Problems with dynam statement and cursor

    Hello,
    I have the following problem with Oracle 9i, Release 2:
    I have a SQL-statement, which I create with the help of a configuration table. That means I don’t know how this statement looks at runtime. It could be look like this:
    SELECT Att1, Att2, Att3
    FROM Tab1
    or this…
    SELECT Att1, Att2
    FROM Tab1
    or this…
    SELECT Att1
    FROM Tab1
    etc.
    That means I don’t know in advance how many columns will be in the select-clause.
    Here my code snippet until here:
    v_query_str := 'SELECT ' || v_select_clause_str
    || ' FROM cb.' || v_table;
    ,,v_select_clause_str" willl be created dynamically
    ,,v_table" is as well from the config-table
    Now I want to iterate through the result of the query and do further processing.
    For this reason I wanted to use a cursor, iterate through the rows and save every value of each row in an own variable (but I don’t know the number of columns!!!).
    But how can I open a cursor and iterate through it without knowing the number of columns???
    The following code is NOT working:
    TYPE t_dataColumnComp IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(200);
    a_dataColumnComp t_dataColumnComp;
    --here I create the query…
    v_query_str := 'SELECT ' || v_select_clause_str
    || ' FROM cb.' || v_table;
    OPEN c_tempAtt FOR v_query_str;
    LOOP
    FETCH c_tempAtt INTO a_dataColumnComp; --THIS DON’T WORK
    EXIT WHEN c_tempAtt%NOTFOUND;
    FOR i IN 1..a_dataColumnComp.COUNT
    LOOP
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(a_dataColumnComp(i));
    END LOOP;
    END LOOP;
    CLOSE c_tempAtt; --close cursor variable
    Regards
    Homer

    You will need to use DBMS_SQL to handle this since the number of columns in the result set is not known until runtime.
    See here for an example of using DBMS_SQL:

  • Problem with "date -d" function in bash script. Leopard bug?

    I have this really nice rsync bash script that I use to make rotating snapshot backups of my different Ubuntu servers to a single backup server.
    I am now trying to use this same script on my Leopard machine, but it seems to have a serious problem with the following lines of code:
    lday=`date +'image-%Y-%m-%d-%H' -d '1 day ago'`
    lweek=`date +'image-%Y-%m-%d-%H' -d '1 week ago'`
    It generates the following error:
    date: illegal time format
    usage: date [-jnu] [-d dst] [-r seconds] [-t west] [-v[+|-]val[ymwdHMS]] ...
    [-f fmt date | [[[mm]dd]HH]MM[[cc]yy][.ss]] [+format]
    It's clear that it doesn't like the "-d '1 day ago'" part in my code.
    Is there a different way in Leopard to get yesterday's or last week's date in a bash script? Or is this a Leopard bug?
    Could someone please help me out? I've be trying to research this for the past 8 hours, but can't seem to find any solution to this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Is there a different way in Leopard to get yesterday's or last week's date in a bash script?
    date -v-1d
    date -v-7d

  • DB2 problems with Dynamic SQL

    Does anyone out there use dynamic SQL with DB2? If so, are the sql statements causing a PreparedStatement to be executed on DB2. I posted this question similarly before, but never resolved it, and it is killing me. I have to resolve this ASAP!
    Here is the problem: My DB2 Admin says that EVERY TIME I access the database, my Java app is causing the database to create a PreparedStatement. However, I'm using Statement objects exclusively, with dynamic SQL. He says that DB2 needs an "access path" for the client, and that it converts the Statement to a PreparedStatement, as this is the only way to get this "access path". He says the only solution is either stored procedures or SQLJ, which will do the binding in advance, and increase performance tremendously. However, I am STRONGLY opposed to using SQLJ, and if we do stored procedures, we'd have to write one for every possible SQL statment! I KNOW there is a better solution.
    Is anyone out there having these problems with JDBC and DB2? Surely someone out there uses DB2 and JDBC and either has these problems or can confirm that something is incorrectly configured on the database side.
    Any help would be great. Thanks, Will

    Now I'm wondering if maybe the PreparedStatements are ONLY being called on the database when I call getConnection(), and not when I call executeQuery() or executeUpdate() from the Statement object. I just can't see why the database would have to make an access path for every SQL statement executed, but I could see it creating an access path for every connection requested. Any thoughts on that theory?
