Problem with explicit cursor fetching in oracle 8.1.7

Is there any cursor attribute which can fetch the previous or next record from the cursor using pl/sql.
thanks in advance

You would need two cursors. One with > parameter in the where clause order by asc, and one with < parameter in the where clause order by desc. To continue in the same direction keep fetching from the same cursor. To switch directions, close it and open the other one.
Alternative methods will depend on how much data is involved. You could have one cursor and store the rows already fetched in a pl/sql table. Or you could start off by putting the entire query into a pl/sql table.

  • Problems with date in procedure on Oracle 11g

    Hi gurus,
    I have some problems with the date format on Oracle 11g.
    Let me explain the situation:
    When I am starting a request like
    select to_number(to_char(to_date('01.04.2009','dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'))
    from sys.dual
    I got as result 2009 as number.
    When I do the same in a procedure of a package like this
    my_year := to_number(to_char(to_date('01.04.2009','dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'));
    the variable my_year contains the value 9 instead of 2009.
    Can someone explain me what's going wrong?
    I have just tested with changing the environment variable nls_date_format for the session and for the complete database with no success.
    Regards,
    Björn

    Thank you all for your replies so far:
    @Alex: You are right, using your short script in sqlplus gives me also 2009 as result
    So, I am now posting the essential excerpts of the procedure because the whole one is to large:
    function insert_szrl (my_fremd_name varchar, my_elementadresse varchar,
    my_zeitstempel varchar, my_wert float,
    my_status varchar, my_zyklus varchar,
    my_offset integer,
    my_quelle varchar, my_nzm_daten integer) return integer is
    begin
    my_date := to_date (substr (my_zeitstempel, 1, 10), 'dd.mm.yyyy') + my_tageswechsel +1/24;
    if my_zyklus = 'mm' then
    my_zeitstempeldate := add_months(to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy'),-1) +1 + (my_tageswechsel+1/24);
    my_days := to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy') - add_months(to_date(last_day(to_date(my_date, 'dd.mm.yyyy')), 'dd.mm.yyyy'),-1);
    my_year := to_number(to_char(to_date(my_date,'dd.mm.yyyy'), 'yyyy'));
    ptime.umschalttage_tuned (my_year, my_ws, my_sw);
    end if;
    While debugging the complete procedure I see since the start only a date which looks like '01.04.2009 07:00:00'

  • I have a MacBook air. I'm having problems with my cursor either I cannot see it or disappears is there anything I can do to fix it

    I'm having a problem with my cursor. It either disappears or I cannot see it immediately. Is there a way to make an adjustment on the display of the curse

    reset SMC , also uncheck and check each setting on the cursor
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
    Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

    I'm having a real problem with my cursor which seems to have developed a mind of its own, zigzagging allover, highlighting things without my command, and basically making my MacBook unusable (it's taken me half an hour just to compose this!).

    There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
    1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
    2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
    3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
    4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
    5. Reset the System Management Controller.
    6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad or mouse, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
    7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
    8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
    9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
    10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
    11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

  • Problem with using database link from oracle 7 to oracle 9i

    Hi To Every One
    I have two oracle database oracle 7.3.4.0.1 and oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0.
    and the tns alias to connect to oracle 9i database is oracle9i and tns
    alias to oracle 7 database is oracle7.I have no problem in connect to
    these database using these tns aliases from either database.The tns
    alias for oracle 7 is available in tnsnames.ora file of oracle9i and
    tns alias for oracle 9i is available in tnsnames.ora file of oracle 7.
    So there is no connection problem from each other.Connection is
    working fine for each other but the problem with database links is
    like this
    Problem:
    when i create database link from oracle9i user or public database link
    from oracle9i for oracle7 user like this
    SQL ORACLE9I >CREATE DATABASE LINK ORACLE7 CONNECT TO <ORACLE7USER>
    IDENTIFIED BY <PASSWORD> USING 'ORACLE7';
    OR
    SQL ORACLE9I >CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK ORACLE7 CONNECT TO <ORACLE7USER>
    IDENTIFIED BY <PASSWORD> USING 'ORACLE7';
    The links get created sucessfully but when i write command like
    SQL ORACLE9I> DESC <ORACLE7USER_NAME>.<ORACLE7USER_TABLENAME>@ORACLE7
    I RECEIVE A ORACLE ERROR LIKE
    ORA-12663 SERVICE REQUIRED BY CLIENT IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE SERVER.
    OR IF MY COMMAND IS LIKE
    SQL ORACLE9I> SELECT <FEILD_NAME> FROM
    <ORACLE7USER_NAME>.<ORACLE7USER_TABLENAME>@ORACLE7;
    I RECEIVE AN ORACLE ERROR LIKE
    ORA-01002 FETCH OUT OF SEQUENCE.
    ORA-02063: preceding line from ORACLE7
    BUT IF I CREATE A LINK FROM ORACLE7 USER FOR ORACLE9I USER
    IT WORKS FINE.
    PLZ HELP ME WHAT IS THE PROBLEM THAT THE LINK FOR ORACLE 7 IS NOT WORKING WHEN
    IT IS BEING CREATED FROM ORACLE9I.
    Thank u.

    Oracle 9.2.0 does not support connectivity to Oracle 7. The newest version that will support this is 9.0.1.

  • ConnectionPool problems with WLS 7.0 and Oracle 9.2

    Hi,
    We are using WLS 7.0 SP4, and Oracle 9 and the Oracle thin driver type 4. In our
    application on the productive system (and only there) we constantly encounter
    a whole set of SQLExceptions which have all in common that the Connection from
    the pool is not valid any more when the application tries to use it.
    Typical, recurring error messages are:
    - Exhausted ResultSet
    - Connection has already been closed
    - Closed Statement
    - Transaction is no longer active - status committing
    - NullPointerException at
    weblogic.jdbc.pool.Connection.prepareStatement()
    There are no special Statements which create these errors. They are spread at
    random across practically every query the application creates, and the same queries
    sometimes succeed and sometimes fail.
    I double and triple checked that all Connections, Statements and ResultSets are
    closed immediately after use. As an example, I attached a code snippet and a resulting
    StackTrace which.
    The problem also seems to occur only with an (unknown) minimum of concurrent usern,
    since in the approval tests on an almost identical test system these errors never
    occurred.
    I also followed the advice from Oracle and installed the latest Oracle JDBC driver
    (Oracle 10g) - to no avail.
    What else can I do?
    Another question: Is it correct that my Oracle JDBC driver is in the application
    classpath (via a reference in the Manifest file of the application jar), not in
    the system classpath? There has never been a problem with that, but in a Newsgroup
    answer from Nov 10, 2003 (subject: "ResultSet closes prematurely"), Joe Weinstein
    suggested to "get it listed at the
    front of the -classpath argument that the startWebLogic script creates for the
    java line that starts the server".
    I hesitate to do so, since the driver is in a standard WebApp- directory, WEB-INF/lib.
    Is it possible and safe to add a jar located there to the system classpath? If
    it is possible, why is it necessary?

    Hi Joe,
    Your hint that there is a threading problem was right:
    On further investigation of the code I found out that the class that passes the
    Connection to the DAO not only stores it as a member at some point (which is not
    a good idea anyway) but is also a singleton - then, of course, it's no surprise
    that the Connection gets invalid in a incalculable way when concurrent threads
    share it.
    The singleton instantiation was not so obvious because the way of instantiation
    is controlled by a configuration parameter that can be overridden at different
    levels.
    I changed it and the productive logfiles indicate that the SQLExceptions related
    to that class have disappeared.I am happy to have helped.
    So, thanks a lot for the advice.
    But I am still wondering why this code has worked for so long a time with WLS
    5.1 and Oracle 8 (the system has been productive for over 2 years). Even in the
    approval tests with WLS 7.0 and Oracle 9, we did not run into problems, although
    it was multi-user environment.Mo idea.
    I still believe that there is a difference between WLS 5.1 and 7.0 in the way
    it treats pooled Oracle JDBC Connections. I wished both Oracle and Bea could be
    a little more explicit about those changes and possible version incompatabilities
    beyond the general advice "use the latest thin driver".Though I can think of no change to our pooling which would have had any material
    effect in this case, I will certainly do what I can to see that our documentation
    is explicit about changes.

    where it was originally closed.
    - Closed Statementsame as above.

    We also ship
    an oracle thin driver, which becomes obsolete soon...
    I am concerned that your code creates pool connections to be used later.
    The problems
    can arise if more than one thread ever gets the same connection, or if
    the connection
    is used in the same thread, spanning transactions. It does also seem
    that there may
    be a threading issue, because if two threads each call the code to create
    a connection,
    and two connections are made, but one over-writes the other, the two
    threads can
    end up using the same connection, and closing it. The over-written one
    never gets closed,
    resulting in that leak message you got...
    Joe
    The Connection parameter is opened by a business component class, ComaServiceProviderClassicImpl.It is propagated through
    several classes in the business layer, but not used, until the DAOtakes it to make the query.
    So, the Connection is closed where it was opened, not in the DAO class.

    we use for backup our SAP system online split backup, our database is almost 3TB big. Backup is functional but sometimes (4x-5x per month) backup fail with error bellow. If i understant this problem correctly brbackup lost connection to oracle after split disk system and cant stop backup mode in database and backup failed. How can i solve this problem? Exist some parameter for brbackup for reconnect to db when brbackup lost connection? Thanks for your help!

    Hello,
    in note 534729 is nothing about ORA-03135: connection lost contact only error ORA-03114 which refer to the note 335199 and in this note in nothing about ORA-03114 I want to say two things: this two oracle errors (ORA-03135 and ORA-03114) are not in alertSID.log on db server or in syslog on backup server. This error are only reported from brbackup which is running on backup server which is "client side". We don't have problem with connection from work processes on all instances to db server, we have only problem with brbackup which lost connection after split disk system. How i say this problem occurs only sometimes.  I was tested network connection from backup server to db server via niping a this is result:

  • I have a problem with JDBC Realm in Tomcat/Oracle/Win XP

    I have a problem with JDBC Realm in Tomcat.
    I have attached my server.xml file located in the

    The Problem is that when I login I get the user name and password prompt but it does not resolve.
    When I enter in the tomcat-users.xml password with memory realm uncommented it works fine.

    Is there a cache or something I need to reset for the JDBC Realm to work?
    I have attached my tables and contents as well...

  • [Solved] Problem with mouse cursor gnome3

    Hi
    I moved back to Archlinux after a brief stay in LMDE, and test the new GNOME3, I am unpleasantly surprised that after a while the mouse is moving himself toward the top of the screen. I searched the internet, and seems to be a problem with the gnome-shell for some time, but I am not able to find the solution.
    Momentarily solved by restarting gnome with ALT + F2 + r + Enter, but after a while, same thing happens again.
    Can be well with photography programs, but of course if you do not solve this issue, GNOME, I can not use
    Can you give me a helping hand?
    Thanks and regards
    Rafa

    I don't know about Gnome, but my laptop had that problem.  I tracked it down the 3d accelerometer being used to simulate a joystick.  Of course, I also had (previously) set up another joystick to operate as a mouse.  In the end, the cursor "drifted" when the laptop was not level
    YMMV

  • Problem with java.sql.Clob and oracle.sql.CLOB

    Hi,
    I am using oracle9i and SAP web application server. I am getClob method and storing that in java.sql.Clob and using the getClass().getName() I am getting the class name as oracle.sql.CLOB. But when I am trying to cast this to oracle.sql.CLOB i am getting ClassCastException. The code is given below
    java.sql.Clob lOracleClob = lResultSet.getClob(lColIndex + 1);
    lPrintWriter = new PrintWriter(new BufferedWriter (((oracle.sql.CLOB) lOracleClob).getCharacterOutputStream()));
    lResourceStatus = true;
    can anybody please tell me the what is the problem with this and solution.
    thanks,
    Ashok.

    Hi Ashok
    You can get a "ClassCastException" when the JVM doesn't have access to the specific class (in your case, "oracle.sql.CLOB").
    Just check your classpath and see if you are referring to the correct jar files.
    cheers

  • Since installing Mac Mavericks all my friends with Macs and I have problems with the cursor disappearing, only in Firefox, Safari is fine...

    I have stopped using Firefox as nothing I have done has fixed this problem. I have tried shutting down Firefox and rebooting it, I cleared all my add-ons and then added adblock back (that's the only one) but it still doesn't work. I've deleted large files so that I have more space - I can't think of anything else that will work. I have spoken to four of my friends with Macs and they are all having the same problem with Firefox since Mavericks.

    Hi thanks very much for your reply. I did a few things like delete my add-ons and I don't have the problem of the disappearing cursor (sounds like a Sherlock Holmes story) any more but it seems to have been a mac issue as there were many complaints on the Apple forums of the cursor disappearing since the Mavericks OS and not just in Firefox but in multiple programs. Looks like they've fixed it somehow!

  • Problem with busy cursor

    IHey there,
    i have a popping up window in my Flex app. This window needs a little time to get created. In this time I want to set the Cursor to busy. But instead of the busy cursor Flex displays no cursor, also the arrow cursor disappears.
    I tried the hack with callLater but it doesn't help. Had anyone a similar problem and knows how to fix it?
    By the way: What is the best way to set the busy cursor? Static, with the parentApplication.cursoManager property or in the component with this.cursoManager? All of these ways have the same result on my problem: no cursor!
    click on a item (own component, extended Canvas, buttonMode = true)
    call function by MouseListener
    function {
        this.cursorManager.setBusyCursor();
        this.callLater(doPopUpWork);
    callLater function
    doPopUpWork() {
        // DO WORK AND ADD POPUP
        this.cursorManager.removeBusyCursor;
    I checked the right timing with trace statements [ trace("setBusy") ... ] and the also cursor comes Back when work is done and popup was added. All right and in right time. But the cursor disappears in that time instead of showing the busy cursor.
    Can anybody help me???

    I see there are problems with reading the code, try again:
    click on a item (own component, extended Canvas, buttonMode = true)
    call function by MouseListener
    function {
        this.cursorManager.setBusyCursor();
        this.callLater(doPopUpWork);
    callLater function
    doPopUpWork {
        // DO WORK AND ADD POPUP
        this.cursoManager.removeBusyCursor();

  • URGENT Problem with Greek Character from an Oracle database

    Hello, I am having a serious and urgent problem with the character settings of an oracle database (8.1.7). The database is sitting in a solaris unix server and when we run the env command we have the following in the NLS_LANG parameter: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 (I do not know if this is helpful). When I retrieve data from oracle database (through a VB.NET 2005 program)to a dataset I use a special font in order to see the greek characters (HELLASARIAL). But when I am trying to save these data to a TXT file the greek characters are like Chinese to us. I tried several encodings (System.Text.Encoding.GetEncoding(869)) but without success. Can someone tell me how to convert the oracle greek characters during the selection or during the saving to the TXT file?
    Please respond as fast as you can.
    Thanks in advance

    Here is the answer of the microsoft:
    I have the information that you have a VB.Net 2005 application connected to an Oracle database 8.1.7.4 hosted on a UNIX server.
    This database has the CharacterSet WE8ISO8859P1.
    When retrieving Greek characters from this database in the application, you cannot see them.
    Could you please send me a screenshot of these characters in the .Net application?
    Are they displayed as gibberish, or as inverted questions marks (?)?
    I already had similar cases with Hebrew characters hosted on an Oracle database.
    These characters were displayed as questions marks on the client side.
    This is due to the fact that System.Data.OracleClient is using the Server CharacterSet to display the characters.
    If your Greek characters are not stored in the WE8ISO8859P1 characterset, then they won’t display correctly on the client-side.
    This is different from OLEDB where you could interact on client side by modifying the NLS_LANG parameter in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0.
    The client NLS_LANG and the server CharacterSet had to match in order to correctly display the data, and avoid SQL*NET conversion.
    So there are two solutions to your case:
    - The first one is to create a new database using the P8 characterset. The Oracle .Net managed provider will so be able to use it and display the characters correctly.
    - The second one is to use the OLEDB.Net managed provider, and then use OLEDB for Oracle provider. OLEDB will take care of the client NLS_LANG registry parameter.
    Would it be possible to test your application against an Oracle database with WE8ISO8859P8 characterset?
    Would it be possible to test it with the OLEDB .Net managed provider, and after checking the NLS_LANG client registry parameter?

  • Problem with path length when using oracle drive

    Hello!
    Does anybody else experience this problem with Oracle Drive?
    When I create a deep or nested hierarchy in which the path length is longer than 250 (the limit might be 255) characters, I cannot access the deeper subpages.
    Example:"X:\INET\START1\pfadlaengentest\das istein langer ordnername mit etwa 50 zeichen\and this is another veryveryvery long\and this is another veryveryvery lon2\and this is another veryveryvery lon3\and this is another veryveryvery lon4\and this is another veryveryvery lon5".
    I can access the page "and this is another veryveryvery lon4" but not "and this is another veryveryvery lon5"
    Is this problem due to WebDAV?
    What can I do - I think it is a critical error / bug?
    Regards Joerg.

    I opened a service request and oracle support could help me.
    The problem is the windows file system: the path length cannot be longer than 256 chars.
    There's a workaround with MS-Webfolders.
    More information is available via metalink: watch out for SR-Number 5659267.992.

    HI,
    I am unable to establish a type 4 connection with oracle 10g.
    Specs:
    Driver used: OracleDriver that comes with the ojdbc14.jar along with oracle 10g
    JDK used: Tried using both j2sdk1.4.2 and using JDK 5.0
    JRE: Again, JRE that was shipped with j2sdk 1.4.2 and JRE 5.0

    I am able to compile the following piece of code, so there is no classpath problem, etc.
    When I try to run the program, the exception thrown is "No Suitable Driver"
    There is no problem with the TNSListener, etc...even if all Oracle related services in 'services.msc' are Started/Stopped, the error remains.
    I am, however, able to establish the connection using type1 driver.
