Problem with external editors after moving photos

I moved my photos from an external HD to the drive in my new iMac.  I did not change the names of the folders or files.  Lightroom still works.  The problem is that external editors, such as OneOne Perfect Photo and Color Efex, no longer work.  I can't open photos from Lightroom to be edited in those programs.  OneOne suggested fixing the disk permissions in Utilities.  I tried that but it didn't work.  I'm not sure the iMac even fixed the permissions, and the photos will won't open with an external editor.  Any suggestions?

Reload the firmware update and make sure it completes.

  • Problem with external editor

I like to use iPhoto to look at my images large, and then switch to Photoshop. I have set up the Preferences in iPhoto to use PS as the external editor, but when I am viewing a picture at it's largest size, iPhoto refuses to open it in PS. I can click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the window, or control click and choose to use the external editor and it just sits there. Never opens in Photoshop. It will work if I am viewing smaller than the largest size possible.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

There is a bug in iPhoto '08 that does not allow you to select a photo when it is displayed at maximum size. I suspect that this is inhibiting moving to the external editor too - although it does not inhibit using iPhoto as the editor
I'm afraid that until Apple fixes this you will have to display smaller photos to selct them and to open your external editor)

  • Still problems with external harddrive after sleep although 10.8.5 supplemental update is installed

I am on an iMac 24" late 2007. The external drive is a Hitachi (HGST) Touro 1TB (other drives are fine and never had a problem not even before the supplemental update). Disk utility finds no problems with the HD (had volume repaired never the less).
Is this just my iMac or are others here also still confronted with hd sleep problems after the supplemental update?
    Thanks for your input.

I'm not having those same problems, but my USB3 external drives attached via a USB3 hub still are ejected improperly when the machine goes to sleep.  Also, I've had aliases on the desktop disappear for no reason.  I regret updating to 10.8.5 due to all the weird problems, and the supplemental update fixed a few things but it's still buggy...  Fortunately, no data corruption from this.  I keep my fingers crossed.
Since desktop sales represent 15% of Apple's revenues (and dropping), it's just a matter of time before they dump desktops all together. I see no reason why Apple would care if the desktop OS is buggy.

  • Problem with external HDD after installing updates in Mac os X 10.5 leopard

    Hi,
I just went out to the store and bought a copy of the leopard.
I installed it with nothing attached to the computer. Everything went fine.
When I went to update the software I had two packages there that I updates, so I had to restart the computer. when it started again it indicated that it had problems with my Iomega Ultramax 1tb disk. It says that disk repair failed and that I only have limited access to the disk. and since it's ALOT of data on the disk, I don¨t rally got the tools to copy everything to another location and then erase the disk and copy everything back. So does anyone know if there's a solution to this.
I'd be really happy to get a solution on this,
    thanks alot.
    Rich

When I'm using disk utility and use "verify disk" I get the following message:
    "First Aid failed
Disk utility stopped verifying "UltraMax" because the following error was encountered.
    Filesystem verify or repair failed."

  • Problem with missing files after moving folders around

    Hi,
I keep my music files manually organized. This is mostly because I have a LOT of music and I don't want to take up all the space on my MBP HD. So my music is split up between 2 external drives and the MBP drive.
I was moving around some folders since I wanted to reorganize my music folders, and iTunes can't seem to find the files anymore, and in order to fix it I see I need to find each and every file I moved (which is really not practical).
I tried editing the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file, but it seems to get rebuilt from some other place where this information is stored.
I also tried putting aliases in the old folders' locations pointing to the new ones (iTunes kept saying the files are missing)
Is there any way to simplify the process of moving folders?? This is really strange that such a feature is missing.
    Thanks
    Yaron

If you have the 'keep' option enabled and let iTunes do the work - take a sound track album as an example - that has various artists and you didn't tell iTunes that the album was a compilation album - then iTunes will put all the tunes into into the iTunes Music folder as Artist>Album>Song - if you have the compilation option enabled for the tunes on that same album - iTunes will nest it as iTunes Music>Compilation>Album>Song. This helps reduce the clutter in the iTunes Music folder with a thousand artists and only one tune for that artist.
With the 'keep' option selected iTunes will move tunes automatically within the iTunes Music folder. Since iTunes moved the files it can keep track of the links.
To create a second library launch iTunes with the 'option' key down and follow the dialog box instructions. I have a 'Master iTunes Library' on my internal HD and several ext HD's with other libraries which I give unique names i.e.: Really Big Music. I give the library data base file its' own unique name so I don't accidentally erase the wrong file. I also keep all the files that you would normally see for an iTunes library on the ext HD (iTunes library. .xml, art work etc.,). If you are into lots of movies and TV Shows you could create a library on and ext HD with only video content and name it accordingly. You would keep all the files for that library including the library 'management' files on the ext HD in the same nesting as you would find on your internal HD.
This strategy works for me. I tried to manage the files by myself at one point and just had to many problems so I decided to not fight City Hall and go with the flow and it works for me.

  • Problem with phone line after moving flats

I have moved to a new flats 3 months ago.  We transferred our BT line (BT is our phone and internet provider) to our new flat, internet works fine, but the phone line doesn't! We are not able to call anyone, or receive any calls. Is it something we can do to fix it on our own or should we call an engineer? Will it cost us anything if we call a BT engineer?
    THank you in advance!

  • Problems with focus traversal after moving to j2sdk_1.4.1_02

    Hi,
Just moved to j2sdk_1.4.1_02 and we are having problems where
focus stays on wrong UI component e.g. a user(user2) is taking edit/write permissions from another user(user1) that has write permissions. User1 is told that they will lose write permissions in
the next 15 minutes ( information dialog displayed on their screen ) while at the same time on user2's window a text label is updated
every 5 seconds to say how long before they will have write permissions,
however, the information dialog displayed on user1 hangs and
the user can't remove this dialog. Control seems to stay with user2.
This used to work with the previous java version we used.
    Hope someone can help,
    Thanks

Didn't say what version you came FROM, but I'm guessing if
you're having focus related problems it was from PRIOR to 1.4
    when focus handling was revamped.
You probably need to make sure you are using requestFocusInWindow()
    everywhere instead of requestFocus().
Check here and possibly search for 1.4 and KeyboardFocusManager
    for new focus handling tutorials.

  • Problems with design view after moving to new imac

Moved CS4 Dreamweaver from my Mac Mini intel duo to a new i5 Imac last night: suddenly design view is not showing various CSS styles, especially certain links.
    For example, instead of this:
    HOME | ABOUT | CONTACT | HELP
it will show this in design view:
    |||
Meanwhile, in a browser live on the web, everything is fine.
I did a fresh install of dreamweaver CS4 last night from original install disks to new i5 Imac.
    Help!

Culprit is the classic MS Windows font ARIEL. I installed it one at a time from two different sources (a 1999 TT build and a 2001 TT build) and both immediately caused problems, particularly in Dreamweaver with vanishing text in design view for any fonts setting sassigned the "ariel, helvetica sans serif family").
Since problem only is happening on the 2011 i5 Imac (but not on my old Mac Mini 1.6 or emac G4) I will guess the dilemma resides with fontbook or something peculiar to font management on the iMac.
Removing font of course solved all problems.

  • Problem with junkmail folders after moving gwia from netware to linux

Recently moved our gwia that handles internet email from Netware to Sles
11 GW8.0.3 hp3. Email is moving in and out ok, but I'm getting some
really weird strangeness with Junkmail settings. Just like the old
gwia, this gwia has it's own domain/mta. Postoffices are under
    different domains/mta's.
    1. Email flagged with "x-spam-flag: yes" is no longer automatically
being moved to the junkmail folder. Yes the box is checked for this
particular's gwia settings, and I've even uncommented it in the gwia.cfg
file to to be sure it's enabled.
    2. With the "view" column enabled in the client I can see that normal
email coming in gets set with the tag "internet" Email coming in with
"x-spam-flag: yes" in the header gets set with the tag "IPM.Novell.ND"
If I right click on one these to try to manually set it as junkmail, I
get a message that the message is "Not Eligible for Junk Mail Handling"
and when I click on that a window pops up saying "This is a POP message.
Only internet mail sent to your Groupwise account is eligible for Junk
    Mail Handling"
For whatever reason instead of moving the email to the junkmail folder
when the x-spam-flag is set, it changes it to type IPM.Novell.ND and
then the client thinks that it's some sort of POP message instead of an
internet email. If I redirect incoming email back through the old
Netware gwia instead, everything works fine.
What could possibly be going on?

Did you create a new Gateway ( gwia ) object? Or recycle the old one ( which is usually a huge no-no. ) I suspect you created a new one, as you refer to the old NetWare GWIA. But you never know.

Its only enabled if the run-time config says it is. ;-) Look at the settings listed in the HTTP console for the GWIA or the GWIA logs, which dumps the settings actually being used. You may find the setting is not really effective. Check for differences between the two GWIAs effective config.... something may stick out.
In the message properties there is a junk mail handling section, can you give us an example of working / non-working versions?

  • Problems with external/usb after installing new hard drive

After having a new hard drive installed (from Mac 10.5.2 to 10.6.8) I have experienced 2 problems so far:
    1. I am getting no response (from anything connected from my usb port) ie. mouse.  But plugging in the mouse directly into the mac works fine.
    2. After a few minutes, the sound from my production speakers (connected: macbook->usb cord->sound card-> production speakers) starts to skip and then no sound at all, however my soundcard is still working as I see the light is on.
Can anyone let me know how this can be fixed?  I never had these problems before getting the new hard drive.

    try doing a PRAM/NVRAM reset.......
that might sort out your issues.......
good luck.....hope it works for you...

  • Problem with external keyboard after firmware update

I had an external keyboard plugged into my Macbook Pro (I normally use it on my Power Mac G5). Did a software update on the Pro, had an update for the Aluminum keyboard. Didn't notice it saying not to have any external keyboards plugged in. After the software failed to update because of my external being connected, the external stopped working, both on my Macbook and on my G5 tower. When I connect a mouse to the keyboard, the mouse still works completely fine. But typing won't work.
Any idea of what I can do to fix this?

Reload the firmware update and make sure it completes.

  • Problems with iPhone 5 after moving country

I have an iPhone 5 and have recently moved from Australia to New Zealand. I have a new simcard but the phone automatically puts Australian international dialling codes on every call or text I make, so nothing can go through. I think the issue is because my iTunes account still 'thinks' it's in Australia, even when I change my location. Any ideas of what I can do to fix this?

You can change in Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID: > View Apple ID > sign in and change Country/ Region.

  • New Photo in OS X option to edit photo with external editor such as Photoshop has been removed. will this be back!

    Hi
I have just updated my iPhoto to Photos in OS X and i have noticed that the option to edit photo with external editor such as Photoshop has been removed. will this be back!
Its now a pain to send a photo directly to my favourite photo editing software.
    Ross

    Thanks Terence
Totally understand being a new app and not an update.
So i'm a ammeter photographer and i like the way i can view my photos in iPhoto and i'm happy with the new App for this also, however i like to edit my photos in PS from time to time and i shoot in raw. As i can no longer select edit in external editor from the photo app i tired to drag a RAW photo to PS but this didn't work. i then tried dragging to desktop but this then made a jpeg so i loose my raw advantage. I would like to be able to find my original raw photos easily so i can edit them in PS.
    Hope that makes sense?

  • Deleted RAW file after "Open with External Editor"

I opened a file in PS using the "Open with External Editor" command and saved and it saved the update in Aperture but I needed to make anothe change so I did the same as before using the "Open with External Editor" command. Aperture created another "version" so I attempted to delete the version and it deleted all the versions as well as the "Master" RAW file. I went into my trash to find the RAW file and PS file that I wanted to keep but the RAW file was not there. I don't understand why it would put the PS file in the trash but the RAW file is nowhere to be found. Is there another place that it would go?
    Dual 2.7 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   5GB RAM

If the master was inside the Library then after deleting it, should be in the Trash, inside a folder called Aperture.
If it was a referenced master it should be still in the location it was unless you ticked the box 'send master to trash', in that case it'll be the same as if it was inside the Library.

  • "Open with External Editor" command bug?

Seems to be a bug with "open with external editor" command. If I try it just after Aperture has been opened, it usually works (sometimes not). And then after a couple of photos being edited in photoshop, it sometimes stops working. When I try it, it simply gives me SBBOD for a few seconds (which it does when it's working as well), and then nothing happens. No new master created in Aperture, and nothing in Photoshop. If I restart the program, it usually takes care of the problem, and it will work again for a bit. Sometimes restarting the program doesn't even work, and I have to reboot. Very strange.
Any one else getting this? Any ideas?
    I'm using 1.1.1 and Photoshop CS2.
    powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 (64MB VRAM), 80 GB ATA HD (5400rpm)

Anyone out there? No one else experiencig this "bug"?
    Help, please.
