Problem with firmware restoration CD

I have a dead MacBook Pro (mid-2010 15" i5) that went through a failed firmware update. I found and burned the Firmware Restoration CD 1.7 that is needed to reset the firmware.
The problem I have is with the procedure itself as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL77
7. Turn on the computer and continue holding the Power button. The sleep LED will blink rapidly, then slowly, then rapidly (3 quick blinks, 3 slow blinks, 3 quick blinks). On Macs that don't have a sleep LED, tones are used instead. Hold down the power button until you hear 3 long tones, then 3 short tones, then 3 long tones.
8. Insert the Firmware Restoration CD while the lights are blinking or tones sounding, then release the Power button. A long tone is played once the recovery process has started.
The MBP does not have this behaviour with the sleep LED. I hold down the power button, the sleep LED flashes rapidly for about 1-2 seconds and the I hear the boot chime and the MBP tries to boot normally from the HD. If I try to insert the CD while the light is flashing, the MBP just spits it out.
What is the right procedure to restore the firmware with this particular MBP model? Thank you!

The MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010 has a model identifier "MacBookPro 6,2" and isn't listed at the link you provided, it's the wrong firmware your using.
Here's the correct version

  • Problems with a Restore after trying to resolve problems with Yosemite

    Hi there,
I stupidly upgraded my OS to Yosemite without waiting a month or so for any problems to be fixed.
After the upgrade which went really well, or so I thought, all my apps worked, and I was very happy with it until I switched to Bootcamp to to find that I didn't have the option to select Bootcamp as startup. Although I had the BC icon on my Mac desktop, and I could access it from my Mac, I couldn't switch over.
    So I did a restore to a timestamp just before my Yosemite upgrade - and this went... sort of well... I panicked when I thought I'd lost all my 10's of thousands of emails but the rebuild went well. The problems I have with my restore are that some of my applications are missing - I just get a '?' in the dock and it tells me what the apps are when I hover my pointer on them. The apps are;
    System Preferences
    Safari
    Preview
    Skype
    Vox
    VLC
    uTorrent
    Tunnelblick
    Quicktime Player
My Pages documents no longer open - it says The required index.xml file is missing but it does manage to show me a quick view in spotlight
I have seen on this forum that this can be due to having more than one version Pages but I can only find one version in Application/iWork '09
I can't see why Safari wouldn't be present because I thought it was part of the operating system, as in Preview as well. I thought that maybe they are still on my Mac but need some sort of reset or something...
My bootcamp problem has been resolved by the way and I can switch to my Windows apps that I use regularly.
So I would really be grateful for help in restoring the apps above. I was thinking that apps I downloaded like Skype and Vox say, I can download again, but maybe I need to delete files etc. before reinstalling these missing ones.
    Many thanks, Maz

Hmmm, problem resolved by restoring forward to my Yosemite backup.
It's the lesser of two evils and I have my Windows apps on my old PC...
So come on Apple and get this fixed - it's absolutely disgraceful that this should happen... absolutely disgraceful!

  • 5300: Problem with firmware upgrade

    Hi,
I have Nokia 5300 Xpressmusic with firmware version 4.7. I have recently download Nokia Software Updater and tried to update my phone via USB cable connection. The software runs fine, it identifies my phone correctly, checks for update & tells me that V5.5 is available & downloads it successfully. The problem is that when I press the 'Upgrade' button, 1st it reboots my phone in 'Test Mode', then the 'Preparing installation' window remains on the screen for a couple of minutes & then it gives out an error saying "Connection to phone lost". I've tried reconnecting my cable but it still gives out the same error. Fortunately when I took the batteries out & reinserted & started my phone, it turned on successfully with the previous firmware version. But I still cant get it upgraded. I switched to another PC & tried it there but it still gives out the same error at the same stage. Kindly help me out with this, what is going on here?

  • Reporting a problem with firmware and secondary ca...

    Hi there,
I would like to report a problem with the 202.12.11 firmware for the Nokia E75.
My secondary camera works fine with the normal camera application until I make a video call. The picture for the video call using the secondary camera is just white and blank.
After making the video call, the secondary camera won't work with the default camera application. I can switch between video and image mode but all I see is my camera wallpaper.
It's definitely not the hardware because the secondary camera will work again after reinstalling the firmware .... until I use it in a video call that is!
I have also had no problems with video calls using the older firmware.
Please advise and I hope you can issue a patch soon.

I had the exact same problem.  I eventually used their "Express Lane" problem reporting, and they refunded me the cost of the episode.  (???) Um, hello, that's not what I was asking for... can I just have my episode #3 please?  Hopefully they'll get around to uploading the right show eventually, and possibly not use the Swedish Chef as an intern to manage their upload queue.  #borkborkbork

  • Problem with firmware 1.2.1

I updated my 5th generation 80GB iPod (actually 5.5) over the weekend, and now I see some erratic behavior. For certain songs, the iPod simply stops playing the song and gets stuck at that point. I can still move around, and go to the next/previous song, so it's not a total freeze, but the iPod refuses to play the affected song.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior? It has already happened twice, with different songs, but always the same songs, so it's not a random issue but probably a problem with the mp3 files themselves, even though they play perfectly on iTunes.
5th generation 80GB black iPod   Windows XP Pro

Sorry for long post, Probably help though
Hey, i've had problems with the new firmware (1.2). I have a 60gb which came with firmware 1.0 , when i updated it to 1.2 i noticed performance problems. When I first did it i found that switching songs was sluggish. It also, when left for awhile in pause mode when plugging back in it would freeze. Would have to turn off and back on untill start playing. I decide to talk to buddies who also have fifth gen ipods and they never heard of that. But all of them have had problems with the 1.2 update for playing videos over 1.5 hours.. When watching files over that length the ipod will reset itself. Also said it would do that while playing songs. I decided to downgrade my ipod to fimware 1.0 and seemed to improve it's performance. I think the new update has a problem with the 60gb ipod's cause i downgraded my buddies as well and his is perfect now. I just found the updater from 2005-11-17 on the internet through google. Prob why they don't have 60gb's ipods anymore. Also heard video playing problems with 30gb's too.

  • Content missing and problems with resync / restore functions

Since this morning (it's early evening now), my iPod touch (3G, 64 GB, updated to iOS4 as soon as it was possible from Spain) is not working properly. It started while playing some music. It suddenly stopped without having to. I checked that the ipod was ignoring some songs, whose artwork appeared on screen, as if it couldn't find them. It jumped from one song to the next, and if it couldn't play it either, it stopped.
After a little investigation, I reached the "Settings -> Information" section, where I saw that, although the ipod said it had 4000+ songs loaded, it had more than 50 Gigabytes free, which was impossible, since it was slightly more than 32 GBs free the last time I sync'ed it, and the songs in my library weight about 25 GBs.
Once I arrived home, I tried to resync it, and then iTunes showed that most of the pod was empty and tried to reload all music, but it stopped due to an error after some 200 songs.
Then I tried to restore the ipod, but after a few minutes iTunes displayed an error again.
I'm trying now to resync it again. The process of reloading the songs is being painfully slow. It takes more or less 10 seconds for each song.
Can anyone wonder what migt be happening?
I bouht the ipod in March so it is under guarantee, but I'm going to start my summer holidays this week and I would hate to spend them without the ipod until Apple Services repairs/replaces my iPod.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • I was resetting my macbook pro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but does not restore due to a problem with the restore disk. Please advice me on what to do next.

I was resetting my macbookpro 17 (early 2009) to factory settings but was indicating problems on the restore disk.  I erased my macintosh hd drive so the hd is empty.  What do I do next?

Get an external drive and make a clone of your internal, erase the internal, set it for 1 partition (OSX Journaled) and restore the clone.

  • RV180 (wired only) problems with firmware 1.0.4.14, fails to boot correctly + LAN ports power off during boot (downgrading to 1.0.3.10 = fine again).

    Hi All,
A few months ago when 1.0.4.14 was released I was quick to update to this version from 1.0.3.10 but very quickly ran into issues.
Bit of background info...  I am not doing anything complex with this box, basic IP4 network over all LAN ports, no VLANs, firewall enabled and allowing 2 port access rules to a static IP address.  Any static IPs are assigned manual at host level but all other devices receive DHCP IP addresses.  I don’t host VPN on this RV180 but I do with another.  Routing VPN has no issues. WAN is connected to another switch provided by my ISP who provides DHCP IP Address with their DNS etc.  Only LAN ports 1 and 2 are connected, port 1 to my Wireless AP (AP mode passing all requests to the RV180, DHCP etc.), port 2 connects to a 8 port Smart Switch (but all 'Smart' features are currently not in use, so basic switching only).  All other settings on the RV180 are on recommended defaults.
Everything is working fine on 1.0.3.10 but I have all kinds of issues after updating to 1.0.4.14.  Here are the actions and experiences I had...
    1) Backup my RV180 config to txt file.
    2) Navigate to the firmware upgrade page and follow steps to complete the upgrade process from 1.0.3.10 to 1.0.4.14.  *router does the normal process of upgrading*
    3) RV180 reboots to complete but doesn’t come back up even after waiting 5-10 mins.   LAN ports enable during boot up (link lights on) but after about 2mins turn off (no link lights).  WAN light is on alongside the Power Light.
    4) Power cycle even with rest... Same results.
    5) Reset the RV180 to default settings.  I can sometimes get the unit to boot up and the LAN remains active and powered up.  The web UI is VERY slow compared with 1.0.3.10.  Internet sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (I would expect it all work without issue on default settings).
    6) I repeat this a few times, various resets, powered off waiting periods, etc. but I always have issues.  I did manage to get some log file information and the Kernel appears in the Alert, Error and also the Warning logs (please see attached files).
    7) I gave up at this point.  No major issues like this reported on the internet from a few google searches etc.  So I then reset to defaults (1.0.4.14), downgrade to 1.0.3.10 and finally reset to defaults again + restore backup config settings (with some manual changes).
The router has remained like this and seem to be working fine, but I would like any security improvements from 1.0.4.14 firmware on my device.
Anyone able to help, have the same issue or can advise me in any other ways?
I see 1.0.3.10 isn’t displayed as a firmware download on the standard support page for the RV180 now.  Only 1.0.2.6 and 1.0.4.14.  Do I need to downgrade again to 1.0.2.6 before upgrading to the latest version?
    Regards,
    ~FAZ~

    Hi,
I recently bought a RV180 router and immediately I encountered the same problem; practically I am not able to access the web GUI.
The PC is directly connected to the router, nothing else is connected; the TCP/IP configuration is as follows:
    PC: 192.168.1.100
    RV180: 192.168.1.1
    GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1
    SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
Once the router is turned on, the power LED flashes fastly, the Ethernet LED is on but after few minutes it disappears and the PC detects a disconnection of the Ethernet cable.
The router is not pingable and, as I said, the web interface is not reachable.
I have tried to power cycle the router, to reset it (pressing the reset button for more than 3 second and for more than one minute), to access the rescue mode and download a new firmware through TFTP, but nothing worked.
Few times, after many boot and reset trials,I was able to access the web interface and in one of these occasions I updated the firmware to 1.0.4.14 but once the router is powered off the problem arises again at the next power on.
I have not tried yet to downgrade to an older firmware version.
Can you suggest any solution? thank you.

  • Problems with Firmware 3.01

Even since this upgrade, my appleTV must be reset in order for it to play. I always get a black screen when it is start and the appleTV has to be reset to get a picture on the TV. I restored the appleTV to factory setting (firmware version 1) and then updated, resync'ed and still have the same problem. I have not experienced this with any previous firmware version. This has been very disturbing. The only solution I found is to connect the appleTV to remote powered switch so I can power it off and on every time I need to use it. This sounds so ancient and stone age like but I hope it turns out to be my temporary fix until (a) Apple's release of the next "good" update, (b) someone on this forum has a solution that I have missed, or (c) there is a way to roll back to version 2.4. I also hope that apple consider allowing the availability of prior firmware version so one can roll back their device of things don't pan out.
The AppleTV is connected to a Panasonic HDTV thru an HDMI via a Sony ES3200 A/V receiver. I have iTunes 9.02 installed.

I have had this appleTV for many years, its a 40 Gb, version 1 firmware! I have not experienced any of these so called HDMI problems until upgrading to firmware 3 and it has became worse with 3.01. Furthermore, restoring the appleTV to its factory condition (FW version 1 in my case) results in a perfectly interoperable appleTV that works just fine with the equipment I have, and always had. I must therefore conclude that the problem is in the version 3.00/3.01 update and specifically in the HDMI/HDCP handshake protocol implemented by this revision. As further proof, I plugged my appleTV to an RF'd power switch (one of those you use for your Christmas tree). Under this scenario: when I turn off my AV receiver and TV I also switch off the appleTV and few second later turn it back on! The apple TV recycles and glows an amber light (because everything else if off). Subsequently, when I want to use it again, I turn on my AV receiver and TV (I use a Harmony remote) and without any further ado the apple TV amazingly initiates the handshake, the amber light now glows green and every thing is on. As I mentioned in another post this is a clunky solution and so very 20th Century to solve the 21st century 3.01 appleTV software upgrade (really) debacle. My be next update will disable HDMI all together and then I will either resort to component or to another media server. Or my be Apple will fix it or allow roll back to version 2.4 without me having to hack it. As some one commented this 3.00 update is analogous to Microsoft Windows ME, I say it is more VISTA like, some fluff and no substance.

Well, I've got a mp3 player, a Creative Zen Jukebox with a HD of 30GB. The other day I started it and it began to re-built the music library, but it blocks in the middle of the process and shows a message: firmware problem. And here it sto

  • Backup Problem with Firmware Change

*I'm running Windows Vista with my iPod Touch 2G.
I just downgraded my firmware from 3.1.1 to 3.0 but now when I try to backup my old iPod backup it tells me it cannot backup the data because the (recently downgraded firmware) software is too old.
Is there a way to backup my old applications and music without sticking with 3.1.1 firmware?
Or is the only option putting my apps back manually onto my iPod? I had both my apps and my music backed up before I reverted to 3.0 firmware.
Thanks for your time in advance!

Just cancel it. its just downloading and not installing to phone yet so no harm will happen. Something on your computer is creating problems for your download. Most likely the AV and firewall software of the LAN settings.

  • Problems with system restore points in Win 8.1 (keep increasing in size)

    Hi,
I was sent here by Microsoft Support who seem to have no idea of the mechanics of System Restore and what could interfere with it. I've no idea where to post this, so I hope you can help in that.
I have the problem that my System Restore point (only a single point) keeps increasing rapidly in size from a few Mb to many Gb and even fills the C drive if I don't stop it. Setting a limit to the size doesn't help (in System Restore or VSS), as it ignores
it and increases the limit. I have tried all the usual (sfc, DISM, chkdsk, several antivirus and malware programs) with no success.
Obviously, I can turn off System Restore, but that isn't really something I want to do.

When you say "system backup", do you mean generation of system restore points or an actual backup? i don't use MSBackup.
    Hi,
What I meant system backup is system backup feature that it would create restore point when you enable system backup automatically.
I made a test in our testing enviroment. limit restore point disk space usage to minize, create some restore point. When I create a seconde restore point, it would replace the former time point. The maxize disk space usage won't more than the limiation.
Therefore, please check the size of Restore Point in C:\System Volume Information if it's larger than system limiation.

  • Problems with Full restore using Time Capsule backup???

For some reason my MacBook Pro recently crapped out completely, and I am trying to do a complete restore of the OS via a full backup I made with using Time Machine onto my Time Capsule disk, but I am running into some problems doing so and I was hoping someone might have some insight as to how I should deal with things at this point...
    Here's where things get messy...
    - I insert my Mac OS X 10.5 Installation DVD into my Macbook and boot from the drive, and I immediately choose the menu option to 'Restore from Time Capsule Backup'...
    - After logging into my Time Capsule and then choosing the proper .sparseimage file to restore from, I click 'continue' and it brings me to the screen where I choose where I want to restore to (which in my case, is the one and only internal HD inside my Macbook Pro)
    - The bottom of this window tells me that it's "Calculating space required to restore data..." but it simply hangs at the point with a spinning wheel indicating its still doing the calculating, but never actually presents me with the space required, not does it allow me to click continue to perform the restore?? I've allowed it over an hour to calculate the space required and it still just spins its status wheel...
This is where I am stuck at this point, and I have no idea how to get it to proceed to the next step to allow me to perform the restore??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I will have no choice but to do a complete reinstall (including all apps and data) if I can't get the backup restored... Thanks!

I had the same problem when installing a new HDD in my Macbook. The solution I found was to reinstall Leopard onto the new HDD from the install CD, then reboot off the install CD once I had done this. I was then able to choose the 'Restore from Time Capsule' option and get my HDD to show up in the window.
A word of warning, once you have reinstalled Leopard and it starts asking you for all you info, as if for the first time to set up your computer, there is an option at the end of that process to restore your data from a Time Capsule backup. While this did restore all my files and so forth, it did not update any of the 'Apple' apps, i.e. iTunes, iPhoto, Quicktime, or the operating system itself, suggesting a 500Mb download via 'Software Update' to update the system. It was faster for me to reboot of the install CD and restore via the process outlines above. That way you get all your system updates included.
Not sure if this is the 'approved' method but it worked for me! The restore process took about 75 minutes for about 100Gb of data from my external backup drive connected to my Macbook via a Firewire cable.
    Hope this helps!

Because in one of .rar files, which are including of the firmware web (h t t p://faenl.msi.com/index.php?dir=Networking/RG60SE/firmware/), contain picture. On the picture is depicted print screen from admin mode of the router RG60SE and there is available option ENABLE BRIDGES. In old firmware this option I never seen.
