Problem with HP Photosmart Premium C309a

I am using my new IMAC and a new HP c309a all in one unit. I can print, fax, copy, but scanning will not work. I use the application provided, the scanner communicates with IMAC, provides a preview image, but will not save to the IMAC. I have restarted both the HP unit as well as the IMAC. I have re-installed the software, but to no avail. This is a major problem since the main reason for the new scanner was to work on scanning old photos.

I went thru the same thing...HP wrote back and this series of instructions (and download) worked:
The possible cause for this issue could be because of conflict in the drivers/software. However, before we come to a conclusion, I request you to perform the below steps to isolate and correct this issue:
· First, let us check the hardware functionality of the scanner by making a copy. Also check if the printer is able to print.
· If the printer is able to make a copy then it means that the scanning hardware is working fine and the evidence points towards a software issue. In such a case please follow the below steps.
Note: If the printer is not able to copy then please skip the below steps and look for steps in the email to reset the printer.
· I request you to uninstall the existing drivers/software by following the below steps.
* Click and open the Mac hard drive (in which the Mac OS is installed) and then click on Applications.
* In Applications, click on Hewlett Packard and then click on HP Uninstaller.
* Using the HP Uninstaller, remove the printer.
· Please download and then install the updated drivers/software from the below link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-74786-1 &lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3737195&os=219&lang=en
Note: Clicking the links may give an error indicating it is invalid. If this occurs, copy the portion of the address on the remaining line and paste it at the end of the address showing in your browser until the complete address is displayed in the Address box.
· The drivers/software would be downloaded with a “.dmg” extension. Double click on the .dmg file and then you should find the HP installer icon. Double click on the HP Installer icon to begin the installation.
· Make sure that the printer is connected to the Mac and is powered on during the installation.
· Once the drivers/software are installed you may use the HP scan.app application to scan in Mac OS X 10.6. To locate HP scan.app, click and open the Mac hard drive (in which the Mac OS is installed) and then click on Applications.
· In applications click on Hewlett Packard and then click and open HP scan.app.
· Using HP scan.app please try to scan.

  • 10.6.8 Printing problem with HP Photosmart premium C310 printer

I hvae a Photosmart Premium C310 printer which is connected wirelessly to my network. I also have a Mac Pro which is connected to the same network by ethernet cable. Up until I updated to OS10.6.8 everything worked fine. After that I found that when I restated the printer I could see it for a short time under the printer list but then it seems to "time out" and I can no longer print to it within a couple of minutes from my Mac Pro. When I restart the printer I can also see its embedded web page again for a few minutes but then it becomes not visble.
I also own a Macbook pro and two iphones and an ipod touch and all these wireless devices have no problem with seeing the printer and printing to it at any time. The Macbook Pro is also updated to 10.6.8 and works fine with this printer.
It would seem that the issue is not with wireless devices but with a wired device printing to this wireless printer even though it is on the same network and on the same subnet mask.  All that has changed between working fine last week and not being recognised this week is an update to OS10.6.8
I have restarted the Mac Pro, reinstalled the latest HP software and reset the printers wireless setup but this makes no difference.
Is this a similar issue to what others have been reporting about a bug with printing under 10.6.8 or possibly something else. Any help here would be appreciated as I have no way of printing from my Mac Pro right now.

Pengtao, I have plugged my Macbook Pro into the network (with Airport off) and I can no longer reach the Photosmart printer. Remove the cable and go wireless and the Macbook Pro can reach the printer again. I have installed the photosmart printer software under Windows 7 using Parallels on my Mac Pro and have no problems finding the Photosmart printer from it.
To make matters worse I have bought a new Laserjet M1536 today and install it on my network. Again I get the same issues. I can print to it from any wireless device on the network but cannot reach it on any wired device on the network.Switch the printer off and on and I can see it and print to it for about a minute then it becomes "offline" to my Mac Pro
Given that it works fine under Windows 7 from a Mac Pro I have to conclude that the issue must be OSX 10.6.8 and nothing else as everything worked fine before the upgrade. I have turned all device off and on , checked all cable connections and also uninstalled and reinstalled all printer drivers on the Mac Pro and cannot get it working. Any advice you may have that may solve the problem beyond it being an OSX issue will be greatly welcomed.

  • Printing problems with HP Photosmart Premium C310a series

I recently installed an HP Photosmart Premium C310a series printer.  Now the printer takes about 45 minutes to print a document.  HP support says this is an Apple problem.
    Can anyone help?

    What file was the problem?
It seems that in the Windows/System32/Spool/Drivers/x64/3, the newly re-installed updated HP drivers (with the 2011-2012 dates) are the only ones with a .BUD extension.  Maybe my Win7 computer doesn't recognize them as drivers?  The other driver files in the '3' Folder have .dll, .gpd, and .vdf extensions.  Is there another spot they should be copied so the computer can find the drivers? I see that up the chain in the Spool Folder, next to Drivers there is an empty folder named Printers.
And what files (Filenames) are needed to run the 309g-m?  I assume some older drivers were kept on file when I ran the updated driver Install program.  The newer HP 2011-2012  files in the '3' Folder are hpoc30j3.BUD, mxdwdui.BUD, hpc309at.BUD, and everything else is older.  I need to know what to copy-paste to a better folder location.
Whatever and wherever the Drivers are, my computer can not find them!

  • Printing problem with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm running windows XP sp3 on all of my  machines with this printer{HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m} wireless network.Recently everything starts  to print one inch lower on the paper and cuts off the bottom of each document I try to print.I print mostly from microsoft word 2007,and I have checked all the settings in word.It is almost like the printer skips an invisible header then starts to print the document.Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DSL modem HW.  There might be an issue with how print data is being routed though.
Please try the second experiment where you blank-out the default gateway and DNS entries from the printer's internal web configuration page.  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.  Select Networking and then Wireless (802.11).  Under the IPv4 Configuration tab, select Manual IP:
For Manual IP Address, use the existing printer IP address.
For Manual Subnet Mask, use 255.255.255.0
For Manual Default Gateway, leave blank.  This is important.
    Select Manual DNS Server:
Leave both the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields empty.  This is important.
    Press Apply.
Turn off the DSL modem, the printer and all computers connected to your network.  Wait 60 seconds then turn on the DSL modem and then turn on the printer.  Then turn on the computers.  See if this corrects the printing speed.

  • Problem with HP Photosmart Premium - HP Message Center

I purchased the HP Photosmart Premium (C410a) approximately 2 weeks ago, and am having issues with HP Message Center. Everything else on the printer is working perfectly.
During the first week, I would get messages from the HP Message Center if the ink was low or if the printer was out of paper. However, I have just realised that for the last week I am no longer receiving these messages.
When I opened up the HP Message Center, the log showed that there had been no messages created for the past week. When I deleted the message log, my printer disappeared from the left hand side in Message Center, and the icons at the top (i.e. Network Configuration and Maintain Printer) can no longer be selected as they are greyed out.
About the same time the HP Message Center stopped providing messages, I ran the HP Printer Software Update 2.6 (which was offered through Apple Software Update). I don’t know if this was the cause of the issue.
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the software using both the CD and the version from the HP Website but have had no luck in fixing this. Perhaps the Software Update 2.6 made a change that is not being reversed by the uninstall, but I am just guessing.
As I mentioned everything else with the printer is working perfectly. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • PhotoSmart Premium C309a driver problem in Win10 at double side printing

My problem is as follows: I created a catalog in MS Publisher 2013 for A4 paper format with 2 page per paper. I selected booklet side-fold type and double side printing. MS Publisher prepared all pages in correct way. I even created PDF versuions of such pages. But each time when I print pages, the printer keeps make them smaller (I think it scale them for Letter format) despuite the fact I changes in printer preferences A4as default paper source, all documents are in A4 format etc. As result, the printed pages are shifter from the center page on the left side, which is ok for one side printing but cannot work for doyuble side printing as shift is in different directions for result paper. Additionally, I cannot any more print on DVD or CD surfaces as the driver doesn't support sauch a feature. Please let me know how I can replace the native Windows 10 driver with the one for Windows 8.1? Or is there any other solutions except using another OS? Thx, Vlad.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that your HP PhotoSmart Premium C309a is having a driver problem in Windows 10 when printing double sided. I am happy to help!  According to this guide, How to Use the 2-Sided Feature, it looks to me as if the double sided printing feature is only available to use with regular plain white paper. (Letter sized), which could be why the printer is scaling the size to letter.  You could possibly try using an alternate driver, by going to this post, How to Assign Alternate Print Drivers in Different Versions of Windows, by , and follow the steps for Windows 8, as they will work on Windows 10. Then you could attempt a custom size print. But as mentioned previously, I am positive that the 2-sided feature for this printer is for Letter sized paper only, and cannot guarantee this will work.  Hope this answers your question, and thank you for posting!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Computer loses network connectivity with HP Photosmart Premium All In One C309a software installed

I am having an issue where my computer (Window XP Media Edition SP3) will loose all network connectivity after some variable amount of time when my HP Photosmart Premium All In One C309a drivers and software are installed. I cannot access the internet or other computers on my network from the affected computer until it is rebooted. When I uninstall the drivers and software, I do not encounter the loss of network connectivty. When I reinstall, the problem starts again. Within 24 hours, I will lose network connectivity requiring a restart. I have the software and drivers installed on another computer running Windows XP Professional SP3 without problems. Both computers are connected via ethernet cable to the network. The printer is connect to the network wirelessly. The printer works fine initiall from the affected computer but then after some variable amount of time computer seems to lose network connectivity. The driver installed is HP Photosmart C309a series (61.81.634.0). Thanks in advanced.

There are a few things to check.
First, is your security software getting in the way, here?  Disable it to test.
Second, have you downloaded this firmware patch for your printer?
Third, did you install this software?

  • Extremely slow wireless printing with HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

I'm seeing extremely slow print speeds when printing wirelessly from a Mac or a Windows XP system to a new HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m printer. The printer begins printing immediately when I request a print, but it only prints one line. It will then take about 15 minutes to print the rest of the page, printing each line after a very long pause. Demo page printing doesn't exhibit this problem, only documents from programs like Word 2008, Safari and Firefox (tried firefox on PC and Mac) are affected.
If I connect to the printer through a USB connection it prints fine, so this problem appears to be with wireless printing only.
    Printer: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m
Computer: Mac mini (Late 2009 model) (also tried a Windows XP laptop as a comparison, using latest drivers from HP's website)
OS: Mac OS X 10.6.2 with all available updates installed
Computer connection method: Wired Ethernet connection to wireless router
Printer drivers: version 2.2.1 (Apple supplied, HP drivers never installed as system shipped with 10.6)
Wireless router: Apple TimeCapsule (Early 2009) 1TB, running in a/n and b/g modes on 2.4 and 5GHz. TimeCapsule is in bridging mode as the DSL modem handles DHCP service
Encryption: WPA2 Personal, no MAC filtering or hiding of the SSID.
IP addressing scheme: All addresses are handed out by DHCP server with no reservations of any kind
The TimeCapsule is sitting three inches from the printer and the printer indicates full signal. Connection of the printer to the wireless network and setup of the printer on the Mac went without a hitch. Only when printing a test document did we discover the problem. The wireless network is behaving as expected when accessing the Internet from both Mac and Windows devices (tested with a Dell laptop running XP and a MacBook running OS X 10.6.2), so I don't see any overall problems with the wireless network.
    Attempted remedies:
    1. Rebooting and powering off, waiting, powering on computer
    2. Resetting the print subsystem, turning the printer off and on again and reinstalling the printer
    3. Unplugging power from the printer and letting it sit for several minutes before trying to print wirelessly.
    None of these worked.
    This question was solved.

  • Printing problem on HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m

    Hi all,
I am currently using HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m to print my documents and it runs on five different ink catridges. I usually print text documents using the black ink catridge. I realised that the moment the ink runs low(when they display the ! sign in the yellow triangle), the print out quality is significantly reduced in the sense that my text documents are printed with certain areas being missed out such as having half a line of text not being printed etc when my ink isn't even out or nearing to being completely out.
Does anybody else experience this problem? Is this problem exclusive to this model or just this particular printer I am using? Is there any way I can go about solving this problem because essentially this means that I have to replace the ink catridges once they go low because I can't print a complete document at all! Thanks!

    Print a Wireless Network Test.
I hope you are not using this for MAC filtering on your router.  It is pretty much a useless security method.

  • Problem installing HP Photosmart Premium In Bootcamp

I've had this printer installed under 10.6 and Win 7.  I have a HP Photosmart Premium C310a wireless printer.  I've had it since it was released, oh probably a year ago.  This was configured and worked fine in Win 7 under Bootcamp.
With Lion, I try to install and I get an error out of the driver that the USB software and hardware will not support a USB installation of this printer.  That's great, I don't need that.  It shouldn't fail there.  The problem is that the installer will not proceed past this point to allow me to configure it wirelessly.
This appears to be a driver problem related to Bootcamp, at a low level.
Does anyone else have any experience with this?  At one point, I went ahead and re-installed Bootcamp and Win 7 with the same results.  Gotta be a driver issue under Apple's 'umbrella'.
    Any feedback or sharing appreciated!

    You are wonderful!!!
    Yes, I know my passphrase.
There were times when all items PASSED.  Initial setup error msg indicated problem w/ MAC code filtering.  Tech was able to resolve.  At this point, the printer cannot connect to router.  It sees it, asks for passphrase, errors off.   All recent diagnostics run indicate FAIL for  No Filtering.
BTW, throughout ALL of this, the Wireless indicator light on the printer is illuminated, wh/ led me to believe I had connectivity all along.
I was told by tech the router assigns different IP addresses for the printer (dunno why), neither of which will open in explorer.  Tried to set printer manually (subnet mask IP, etc) but it kept going back to auto detect IP.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time.  I am still interested in learning more, but I have a previous appt.  If I have NOT taken the product back before I get back on line, I would still be interested in your ideas.  I will check back tomorrow.  Have a wonderful evening!

  • Photosmart Premium C309A Wireless can't get through firewall

I have a new Photosmart Premium (wireless) and it is going offline and then when I change it to online through the control panel feature on the computer, it still won't print.  It gives me the message "Printing", then after a minute or so, "Document Failed to Print".  In talking to HP, they determined it can't communicate because of the firewall.  Ok so now I know the problem, but for the life of me, I can't find the proper name of the program and it's path to put in as an exception for my firewall.  I am using Panda Internet Security. My operating system is Windows XP Home.  The HP person, Amy in online chat said she couldn't help me and just disconnected. UGH!
    Anyone have any suggestions?Thanks.

Unfortunately, I believe the Panda Internet Security suite may not be compatible with network printer SW.  A simple test would be to temporarily uninstall the Panda SW and then reinstall the printer SW and see if printing works.
In general, the security SW (aka firewalls) on the PC needs to allow 3rd party programs, like HP printer drivers, to have access to the local network.  How this is configured is specific to each firewall vendor.
Currently, our software uses the following ports to communicate with the printer. Note that each port name consists of a protocol (either UDP or TCP), a number, and a connection type (either inbound or outbound):
    TCP 9100 outbound
    UDP 427 inbound
    UDP 427 outbound
    UDP 161 outbound
    UDP 139 outbound
    TCP 139 outbound
    TCP 9220 outbound
    TCP 9290 outbound
    TCP 9500 outbound
You best bet is to contact Panda support and ask them how to configure their firewall to operate with the HP Photosmart Inkjet printers.
