Problem with iChat over wireless network

iChat with AIM account has always worked fine, but from the moment I installed a netgear router over a wireless network it enters a loop of disconnection/connection until I get the message "you have been connecting and disconneting too frequently". Someone else ? What to do ?

Can you marked this thread as Finished then please ?

  • Problem with printing over wireless network

    Hello. I have a HP psc 2410 all-in-one printer.
I've recently bought a modem router which has a capability called"printer-server" and I decided to use this feature and print over wifi. I set it up but with a problem. when I print something, for instance, test page, instead of printing just one page, It will print "test page" in 3 pages( something like partial pages and which the last=third page is printed blankly) and then It freezes(printer screen shows "printing" and I have to cancel the job, otherwise it freezes and I have to replug it). I have this trouble not just in test page but at least from IE, office, PDF files. This problem is essentially about Wifi, since If I connect the printer directly to the PC or laptop via usb, it works absolutely fine. also I have tried printing with different laptops over wifi but no go. below are more information which I have to mention:
1)Router is on WPA-PSK encryption type.
2)There is no mac-filtering or hiding SSID going on.
3)one laptop and an iPad is connected to router via wifi and a PC which is connected by LAN cable.
4)The printer IP address is the same as Router's settings page IP address.(192.168.0.1)
5)I can't open the printer's internal web page by entering the printer's IP address in browser since it's the same as router IP address.
6)Firewall on my laptop( windows 7  32-bit) is off and I'm using no Anti-virus.
    7) I have tried HP PRINT AND SCAN DOCTOR, but it says the printer is OK.
    thanks
    Leland
EDIT: after investigating for hours, I finally managed to get rid of freezing problem. now there is just one problem of that partial printing which happens coincidentally over wifi! I mean, sometimes it happens and sometimes not!
any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it

The bottomline is that this printer has no way of connecting other than a straight USB connection.   In order to make it wireless you have to have a device that will give it an network IP address.  The printer by itself can not do this.
The only way to get this printer on a network is to buy a SEPERATE USB Printer Server.   Or, buy a separate router, like I said, that has a USB connection on the back that will support printers.
You can not connect it the way you want as it stands right now.
However, call your ISP and have them set it up IF their Gateway device has a USB connection and really can support a printer.  It is their issue.

  • LaserJet M1120n MFP - Problems with printing over Wireless Network.

Hi. I have recently purchased a HP M1120n MFP printer.  There are three wireless laptops (Vista, & XP Pro) that use this printer via a DrayTek Vigor 27000GE wireless router, then via cat 5 cable to Ethernet on printer.
All three laptops can print, but sometimes the print queue backs ups.  The top print job will say "Printing" but it can say this for hours!  Then if I delete the print job, it will say "Deleting" - but nothing happens.  The only way to clear it is to reboot the laptop.
    Firmware datecode is 20080228.
If I connect via USB cable directly to the printer it works correctly.
Any ideas to help resolve this frustrating problem?

  • Problem with Skype and Wireless Networks

I have been having a problem with Airport for about 10 months. Long winded explanation follows.
Initially file transfers over wireless networks were extremely slow but this seems to have been that 10.5.2 update problem. There is a remaining issue when I use Skype on my Mac (details below) connected to a wireless network the incoming and outgoing audio drop out for 1 - 3 seconds at irregular but frequent intervals (approx every 5 - 10 seconds). This is regardless of the wireless network I am on - and that is dozens of them all over the world. Note it is voice only calls, not video. Apple has replaced the Airport card and the mother board; the OS has been reinstalled; test accounts set up but nothing fixes the problem.
At one point I had temporary relief by switching off 'Configure IPv6' in System Preferences/Network/Airport/TCP/IP. This worked for a month or so but now the problem is back as before.
All other aspects of wireless activity are fine. Wireless firmware is 1.4.4.
I have worn out my welcome with the usually sensational help desk. Any suggestions out there in Mac Land?

    Hi there
Been a hectic week here getting this problem resolved. It is all OK now. Here is what we found and how it was done.
When Airport was playing up we set up an unlimited ping of the wireless router in the office. This is what it showed:

After discussion with tech support they said the Airpot card had to be replaced. This was done with admirable expediency and I got the MBP back in 36 hours. On testing it the same problem was still there. Identical pattern on the ping test, the fault was not the hardware.
Once more a call to Apple and another tech. This time we booted from the OS 10.5 install disk and ran the ping test. I ran it for a few hours without seeing the fault, it worked fine. The problem had to be in the operating system.
After backing up all the data I zeroed the drive and did a clean install of the OS. Bingo! Problem gone.
So after 10 months, two airport cards and a mother board, the issue was in fact something corrupt deep in the OS.
So to anyone having similar problems with Airport, run a ping test as described above. If you see that kind of pattern, try a clean install before going down the hardware road.

  • Problem with Time Capsule Wireless Network...

I have Time Capsule over a year and it worked fine with Xfinity Modem. Recently, Xfinity had upgraded modems to Wireless router and I have ARRIS TG862 from them. I was able to set up wireless network using bridge mode on my Time Capsule and it all worked fine for a while.
My set up is: Arris Router is conected to Time Capsule thru ethernet connection. I have two more Airport Express in different areas of the house (one in Theater room and one in upstair office). I have conncted one port of Time Capsule to linksys switch which is supplying connection for all wired devices on network.
Last week, our wirless network stopped working and I rebooted router and TC. Still no resolution. I went ahead and set up the TC to factory settings but forgot to plug out all the network connections from it. I reconfiugred Apple TC with same wireless network name and same network settings. Most of the wired devices are connecting fine and two of the iphones and Macbook Pro won't connect. iphones, seems to be getting IP address but won't connect to interent. My windows laptop says connected to "EAGLE" my wireless network but "EAGLE 2" provides internet connection. I have reset my TC to factory defaults and reset same way so many times but still same results. I called Comcast and asked them to turn off wireless in their router thinking that router is creating a second wireless network but I still have the same issue.
Any suggestions on how should I set up my TC? I think, it went insane..............:(
Should I set up TC with a brand New wireless network Name to resolve this issue?
I have 7.6.4 version on TC.
I thought I knew, but what's the right procedure to set up TC? Plugged in the router and unplug from everything else and connected thru an ethernet connection to my laptop?
I have wasted so much time on this with the same results every time.
I did unplug all the network connections from TC and reset to factory defualts and set up my wireless again but same results.
Can someone please help me with this? Thanks in advance.

What is the model of the TC? The actual number.. A1xxx from the base of the TC is important.
When you have a modem router.. then the TC must be in bridge mode.. and create a wireless network.
Your names are not yet windows compatible.. please use all names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Fixing names is important part of this.
But the latest firmware 7.6.4 is also troublesome. I would downgrade it to 7.6.1 and factory reset before you start that process.
Any TC older than 3years may have hardware issues.. a Gen3, A1355 may need a replacement and certainly anything older does.
Drivers in windows for wireless are problematic as well..
Certainly start there and see how it goes.

  • Problem playing itunes over wireless network

I have a problem with folders syncing between my computer and my audio system.  I have a PC and my operating system is MS Vista.  The computer has the latest version of itunes on it.
I can play music from my PC thru my wireless network on my audio system, but not itunes.  When I look at the file hiarchy on my TV through my Bluray (an LG), the files below music do not match the hiarchy on my computer.  The server is recognized and other music and picture files are there and they work fine through what the software calls Homelink.  But beneath the Music folder the itunes folder does not show as it does on my computer screen.  I have actuated file sharing for itunes on the computer.
I chatted with LG help and they said that I can't make itunes work because itunes does not have something called DINA.  I have never heard of this and question this answer.
I would think there is a way to make this work down to the itunes playlist level.  If I can't I will have to burn my playlist to a CD and play it in the Bluray and I had rather not have to do that.
Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciate.  The path that I have itunes set on on the computer is: Server/Music/itunes.

  • Problems with Airport extreme wireless network setup

I set up a wireless network with my new airport extreme via the airport utility on my macbook air.  The macbook air can access the network and the internet without a problem.  However, when I open the airport utility, it claims the extreme can't access the internet.  Then, when I try to get to the network from any other component in the house:  blue ray players, ipod touches or another laptop, they can see the network, but not connect to it or to the internet.  This is my first time setting up a wireless network - I'm divorced and my ex-husband set up the last one.  I'd rather die than call him for help.    Can you suggest a fix or a way to troubleshoot?  I'm convinced that I've done something wrong in the setup, but for the life of me I can't find the mistake.  Thanks!

  • MBP having problems with one particular wireless network

My MBP keeps dropping the wireless connection (or failing to find it in the first place) at one particular house. Unfortunately it's a house where I stay a lot. It tells me I'm not connected to the internet and times out any attempted connections. Sometimes it will connect for between 5 minutes and an hour, but then it loses connection again.
When it loses connection the other devices in the house (a Blackberry, iphone and someone elses Mac) all stay connected with no problem. I have never had problems in any other house or with any other connection.
The wireless has a WAP (or WAP 2) password. I have tried resetting and rebooting the modem, the router and the access point, getting Airport to learn or not learn the network, turning airport off and on and all the other usual options (for a clueless muppet like me) and sometimes I can connect again, sometimes not, but the connection is never permanent.
Any ideas please? Thanks very much
I'm on Mac OSX 10.6.7 if that is relevant

Sorry for being so clueless but I'm not sure of the answer to the first two questions. How do I find out?
There is nothing in my network preferences about protocol, but under "About this Mac" I found the following:
    Supported PHY Modes:          802.11 a/b/g/n
There is nothing else nearby competing for radio frequencies - just the other devices mentioned all using the smae wireless signal.
Thanks so much for your help, and sorry that all the technical terms are so lost on me!

  • Problems Setting up my wireless network with an Xb...

Hi, I have had some problems setting up my wireless networking.
I have everything switched on and am able to go online with the laptop and the Xbox with no problems but when I try to share media with the xbox I have problems.
I have opened the ports specified in the setup from xbox on windows firewall and have no problem connection Via Ethernet cable but when using wireless the xbox cannot detect the laptop.
I have checked the network map and both xbox and laptop are connected and have enabled sharing and am running sharing software.
    Below is the network map.
I have also been having problems with BT software, the free virus protection will not install, The desktop help will not launch although it shows up on task manager and the installation disk does not launch correctly it doesn't get past the loading screen.
I have had a printer on the wireless network and had no problems printing.
If anyone knows how to resolve this please help.

I have this same Motorola modem and I just verified that my 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can get Internet access with this modem without any issues.
When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • Am I having problems with my Airport Wireless?

I have a Mac laptop OSX v10.6 Snow Leopard.
I've had it for over a year now and had no problems. Recently I moved to a new house. My ISP sent me a new wireless router (brand: Netgear). My internet connection is fast. However, I often have difficulties accessing certain websites like gmail, google search, and twitter. The sites will simply fail to load and I will get a blank screen. At the same time I will be able to access other sites, like blogger and youtube. Rebooting the router usually solves the problem for about 30mins to 2 hrs, but after that the problem returns. This occurs in both Firefox (7.0) and Safari.
My Internet Service Provider, Virgin Media, claims that the problem is not with their service but must be with my computer. I find that had to believe as this Mac is not very old, and has never had this problem before. Furthermore, rebooting the router seems to temporarily fix the problem, so I suspect the issue is with the router. Is it possible that the problem is with my Airport Wireless or Mac? What can I do to remedy this problem? Why would this problem arise in the first place? I've done a system diagnostic and my computer appears to be healthy. I'm baffled and don't know how to approach fixing this on-again off-again random problem.

The "extend a wireless network" setting on the AirPort Express is used only if you are trying to extend using a wireless connection between the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express. You are using Ethernet.
When the Express is connected using Ethernet, you would configure it as follows:
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click Wireless below the row of icons to display the Wireless settings page
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your AirPort Extreme network
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) would be a good choice
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme network
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to save your settings and allow 40-45 seconds for the Express to restart
Power off the entire network....all devices
Power back up modem first for a moment, then the AirPort Extreme, then AirPort Express, then each device

  • Problems getting on my wireless network

I am having problems getting on my wireless network. I have never had a problem with it before. I changed the password yesterday. However, I was on it until this morning. I have never had a problem before and I am on it currently with my MacBook Pro. Also, my wife is on it with her iphone. Any suggestions?

I have been having the same issues lately. I have made no changes to any settings on my iPod or router or computer. One minute the iPod connects perfectly and I get 3 bars. 30 minutes later I cannot connect at all to my home network. It asks me for password and then wont accept it, etc., etc.
I unplug the router and plug it back in and it connects. Then 2 or 3 days later I have the same issues.
Got my ipod replaced and still am having same issues. My laptop has no issues whatsoever with the router and staying connected.
Some compatability issue with 3.0+ operating system and home network routers probably. I use Netgear but others are also reporting same issues with other routers.

  • New problem with iChat

    Good morn
I still haven resoved my previous post about connection problems with iChat, but hope to do that when I visit my dad next month. Thanks for all the advice anyway.
A new problem has emerged, and seemed to coincide with the install of Tiger 10.3 last week. Now when I try to connect to various tests sites, I get an "insufficient bandwidth" error.
Is this likely to be a problem with Tiger, as I have not changed my isp, settings or broadband type?
Or could it just be the exess load on the system over the Christmas period with all those naughty teenage boys downloading **** and playing games during the school hols?
Any suggestions and/or fixes greatfully accepted.
    Thanks

  • Problems with iChat 4.0.2 / Leopard / BT HomeHub

I have a .Mac account and iChat 4 on a iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 and using A BT Home Hub for my internet connection. I am able to have a video chat with my wife who has a Powerbook / Leopard / iChat 4 set up in our house, both using the BT Home Hub. But when I try to set up a video chat with my friend in Copenhagen who has a .Mac account and a Powerbook running Leopard it won't let us connect. It will let us have a text only chat.
I have read various posts on this subject and changed the firewall to let iChat in, changed the Quicktime streaming to 1.5 Mbps and changed the port in iChat server settings to 443.
Has anyone else any ideas, I am thinking maybe the Home Hub is the problem as i can connect to my wife's Powerbook on our home network.

I too am having problems with iChat 4.02 on an iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 as are numerous people having different hardware/software configurations. I've tried some of the suggestions like changing the server settings to 443, and changing the firewall to let iChat in. I believe somewhere, somehow Apple or AOL have changed something that may be causing these problems. I'm not technical enough to go changing a bunch of things and hope it works.
iChat was working for me about a week or so ago using AIM. I could video chat with a MacBook running 10.5.2, a MacBook Pro running Tiger and a Dell PC. Last night when I tried using AIM and iChat i could only text. However, I could video chat using our dotmac accounts and server settings 5190. But for some reason you aren't able to do that.
At first I thought it was because I stumbled into using CUPS to get my Xerox color laser printer finally working (after getting the new iMac) by changing localhost:631 to find my printer at port 9100 (whatever all of this means). But deleting the printer didn't restore iChat.
Someone on this forum suggested that installing Safari 3.1.1 may have somehow caused the problem. Maybe they are on to something!

  • Problem with iChat changing my custom away message after 30 minutes

Lately, I've been having a big problem with iChat changing any custom away message that I put up to "Away" after 30 minutes or so. Is there anything I can do to make it stop? Another issue I'm having is that sometimes when people on my buddy list change their away message, it doesn't show up on iChat unless I go offline and then sign back on. Any idea why it's doing that, and what I can do to get it to stop?
    Thanks.

    Hi ienjoyanime,
Go to the General Section of iChat Preferences.
Does it say you are set to Go to Away when you log off/QUit iChat ?
is the computer going to Sleep at this point ?

  • "there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the device"

I get this error when trying to have my Airport (for wireless printer sharing) join my current O2 Broadband wireless network:
*AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device after restarting.*
*The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again.*
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

This has been a total joke...Same problems as many here and zero response from Apple! I've had an AX for 3 years or so and it has worked fine, that is until it dropped its connection 2 days ago. I went to reset and the utility prompted me to do some updates...then magically it all went down the tubes!
*"The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again."*...look familiar? Well, I tried everything including the many possible fixes listed here at the discussions...and of coarse NOTHING. I decided that maybe it had just out-lived itself and bought a brand new AX yesterday...funny SAME PROBLEM. Now all the tinkering is affecting my network. I returned the new AX today, and surprise the people at the Apple Store had never heard of the issues, let alone have idea of what to do next! VERY MAD!
Any new solutions would be great! THX.
