Problem with iCloud mail account

I've set my gmail and hotmail accounts to recieve mails on my iPhone, right? And it works no problem. But when update to iOS 5 and decided to merge contacts and mail accounts via iCloud I had to create the @me.com account, which I did, which in turn added a iCloud account into my mail. Its all peachy until this point since everytime I access the mail app it trys to retrieve mails from the iCloud only to get a notification saying: "The user name or password for iCloud are incorrect" giving me the option to go to settings and fix it, which I did a number of times and yet the problem persists.
Is there something else I need to do??
Thanks!

Nope.  Turns out that even though I have two Macs running 10.9.4, the one in question doesn't get the SMTP settings changed by iCloud settings when the password is changed, so I had to "Edit" the account in Mail, plow down to the password settings for the Apple SMTP server, and change the password myself.  Nothing in the System Preferences iCloud setting tab lets you change any settings on the local machine.  Apple is sure they are controlling everything when you make changes in iCloud, but they are wrong.  Identical versions of 10.9.4 are configured differently on two different Macs.

After changing passwords for iCloud, Mail is stuck in a do-loop "There is a [problem..."  The error appears in less than one second after responding "Later"

  • HT4864 problems with iCloud mail server on the mail, but it does not fix it when I put the password in, keeps asking me for password. When I go into iCloud to access it from safari, it accesses the icloud fine with my password. I have reset all the settin

I am running os x 10.7.5, on a macbk, I have been using all the apps fine and not changed anything or run any software updates, suddenly my mail dows not think it can connect with the outgoing server for icloud and requests my password, which I give, but it repeatedly asks again and again. I have tried re-setting all the mail for icloud up again, and it thinks its ok, except the box keeps flagging up can't access outgoing server. I have checked it all a number of times, and I can access the icloud stuff including mail from http when I log in there. Anyone know why my mac will not accept my icloud password? suddenly I cannot get any icloud mail in or out, but I changed nothing. Why does it do this and why can't i fix it?

No carrier "automatically" unlocks at end of contract - many won't do it at all, even if requested.  I don't know what your carrier's policy is since you didn't say what country you're in.
However, if I understand you correctly, you didn't change carriers so it doesn't matter if it was unlocked or not. Try the following steps, as needed:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons for at least 19 seconds until the Apple logo appears
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
    4. Replace SIM card (don't care what Telstra says)
    5. Restore phone in iTunes as new, without using a backup
    6. Take phone to Apple.

  • Strange problem with default mail account

Just recently, the behavior of my default mail account (ATT yahoo server) has changed. This is a regular POP account, but suddenly, although mail still comes into the account as it should, the messages are not treated as new messages: there's no mail sound when mail for this account arrives, no count of new messages, and none of the new messages show the unread dot.
It still behaves normally on my computer, so I don't think it's a change on ATT's end.(These are not messages I've already read on another device, so it's not likely to be some IMAP-ish change on the server side, either.) None of my mail settings are any different than they have been. Other mail accounts via the same server still behave normally. I've tried re-syncing, power cycling, restoring, and nothing has made any difference.

Actually, it's even stranger. If I send mail to the malfunctioning account from another acct (me.com, for instance) from the iPad itself, the incoming message behaves normally. But if I do the same thing from my mac or my iPod, it comes in as pre-read.
I suspected the cause for all this weirdness was that my mail trash was gigantic, because it was a long time before I found the setting for erasing deleted messages and initially changing that didn't get rid of all the existing old messages, but now I'm not so sure about that, after all that resetting up accts.
Oh, and yes, I've checked the ports. There's a lot of port heck with ATT at the best of times, so I'm used to going there.

  • Why do I get an "unable to connect - There may be a problem with the mail server or network." message from iCloud.  I have verified the settings.  I can access my iCloud account online but can't send or receive e-mail via the mail account.

Text limits to the "Question" link prevents a full explanation:
This is a long-time problem.  I have tried to resolve it with Apple but their "Customer Support" is merely a name.
I can go online and access my e-mail but when I try to send or receive e-mail via iCloud through my internet server (Google fiber now but the same situation existed with my prior service), I receive "There may be a problem with the mail server or network.  Verify the settings for 'Apple Email' and try again.
"The server returned the error:  The server 'p0-imap.mail.me.com' refused to allow a connection on port 143."
Well, I have verified the setting and tried again and again and …
Well, you get the idea …

Enter your Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password using the following settings:
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.me.com
User Name: Your iCloud email address (excluding @me.com)
    Password: Your password
    Last Modified: Jun 27, 2013
Maybe you should test these things before calling people out, because these settings do function perfectly well.
iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)
The document I linked to is Apples documentation for iCloud on current devices,I don't care whether you believe that you know better than they do, but it will affect the people who follow your advice as it won't work

  • HT4864 I am getting a triangle with an exclamation point next to my inbox...it says: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account "MobileMe" or try again.  The server returned the error: Mail was unable to log in

I can send but cannot recieve email
This is the messege I am gewtting:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again.
The server returned the error: Mail was unable to log in to the IMAP server “p02-imap.mail.me.com” using “Password” authentication. Verify that your account settings are correct.
The server returned the error: Service temporarily unavailable

Also if I go to system preferences accounts and re-enter the password it fixes the glitch sometimes.

  • I'm having a problem with iCloud and mail.

My account says I've used up my free 5gb. 2.1 gb was in mail. I went into my iCloud account online and deleted all of the email message as I don't use it for my mail. It still shows this as 2.1 gb of used space within mail. I have no idea  how to fix this. Anyone have any ideas?

The right way to set up an iCloud mail account is to sign in via the iCloud preference pane and then check the box marked Mail. Is that what you did? You should not be trying to set it up or change it in the Mail application.
Uhm... set it up?  I have had this iCloud mail account for years and I've been using Mail as the app nearly as long.  This mail account was MobileMe before iCloud and something else before that.  All I did today was update my OS from Snow Leopard to Mt. Lion.
IAC, what I ended up doing was: (1) disable the iCloud account in the accounts list of the Mail app and then (2) set up a new account in the Mail app with all the same values, and (3) delete the old/disabled account.
I don't know what it was unhappy with before that -- everything I set up in the 'new' account was exactly the same as the old one — but it seems to have worked.

Google them to confirm the settings that you need for the outgoing server, then check the setting you entered on the pad.  Pay real close attention to the outgoing server name, and port.  You may need to change in on the pad.

On your iPhone you need to change your password in 2 places:
    - Incoming Mail Server and
    - Outgoing Mail Server
To get to the password entry for the Outgoing Mail Server you have to tap on cell smtp.live.com and again on the second view.

  • HT4864 I have huge and returning problems with iCloud. I cannot send e.mails and there is nothing wrong with my settings. It started yesterday. Does anyone no the reason?

What is wrong with Apple. This is the third time during autumn, that I experience problems with icloud. Apparently yesterday once again there was an outage with icloud and the problem was solved, but NO it is not solved. I still can not send e.mails and I am probably not the only one. Each time I talk to a technician from Apple, the only thing they do is to uninstall my icloud and reinstall it again. With no results. A waste of time. Please make your system work and give a better support. Who do I call to get a proper assistance???
And why can I not select icloud under my products??

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
