I am trying to update my Mums ipod so dont usually use this PC. Each time I try to import a CD an error message saying:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
It then closes down itunes and the same problem happens each time I try to import a CD
I am using microsoft XP on a PC and today I downloaded the newest version of itunes

reinstallation should not remove your apps and stuff, but one never know
is the size and all the codecs settings correct?

I am trying to fix my itunes so that i can import CDs into my library. I understand there is a bug and i need to change to the 7.9.3 but how do i do that?? Short of rolling back your iTunes to 10.0.1.22 and your Apple Application Support to 1.3.2 (CoreAudioToolbox.dll is kept in the Apple Application Support program files), there's a few possible workarounds.
(1) Change your importing prefs to use a different encoding (won't help with the device syncing variation though), and/or disable the convert to 128 kbps AAC when syncing option.
(2) Replace your CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 with a 7.9.3.0 as per:

Problems with importing CDs - is it an iTunes problem or a computer problem

Hi,
I just purchased a new iMac in August, and have had problems importing audio CDs into my iTunes library. Sometimes the computer completely skips over certain songs when importing or the songs are imported but have parts skipped over, almost like the cd is skipping while it is importing. This is happening quite frequently, and it is happening with cds that I know aren't scratched, etc, so there is no reason that I can think of that these wouldn't be importing just fine. I'm wondering if this is an iTunes issue or a computer issue. I don't want to bring my computer in to get serviced if this is just merely an iTunes problem.

No, just the touch events.
I think it's because I have an Apple multitouch pad but it functions as a mouse so it's actually sending two notices. It doesn't do it on a touch screen device nor does it do it when everything is switched to mouse events, so I think it's just unique to Device Central and this particular type of mouse.

Surprising problem with importing files in iTunes 8

iTunes has suddenly started acting a bit strange. Here's the situation:
I downloaded some albums from eMusic. I have been an eMusic subscriber since 2005 and have imported hundreds of albums into previous versions of iTunes with no problem.
Today, suddenly, iTunes refuses to import some albums, imports random individual tracks from other albums (but not the entire album), and imports some albums in their entirety with no problem.
I've dragged folders and individual files to iTunes and used the "Add to Library" command to select folders and individual files. I've restarted iTunes, restarted the MacBook, unmounted the external drive, and remounted the external drive. I repaired permissions. I verified the external drive (it appears to be healthy). The result is always the same.
For example:
iTunes will not import John Coltrane's "Lush Life" at all.
iTunes imports the last 4 tracks of "Thunder" by SMV, but not the first 8.
iTunes imports all of "Live" by Pharoah Sanders.
What's going on?
Some info: iTunes Library contains 25033 items, 78.5 days, 149.62 GB.
The external drive on which my iTunes Library resides has 283.76 GB available.
My internal hard drive (a 200 GB Hitachi) has 106.46 available.
I am running file vault: could that have something to do with it?

I just joined emusic and downloading is a breeze with 7. It goes straight into iTunes without having to import separately.
I was going to check out the emusic forum but it was down.

Problems with importing songs in iTunes

I have deleted my entire iTunes-library. Now, I want to import the songs again. I chose File -> Add folder to library... -> iTunes music (I have all my music in this folder).
The problem is that not everything gets imported, about 30% is missing in the library. I think those songs are missing which are in a second underfolder in the iTunes music. E.g. ...\iTunes music\Band A\Album B\Song C with e.g. ...\iTunes music\Album A\Song B it works.
And even if I want to import those folders manually, it doesn't work (even if it loads).
Does anybody know, what the reason for this is?

I'm having a similar problem.
Every now and then, a track from a ripped CD or from iTunes or from eMusic will "look" OK in iTunes (or on my iPod), but when the track plays, it gets partially through and it jumps to the next track in the playlist.
For example, if playback of track 1 pauses and jumps to track 2 at 1:30 into playback of track 1, & I click on 1:31 or later in track 1, the rest of track 1 will play fine. But if the playback of track 1 starts at the before the "skip point," the track will stop & iTunes (or iPod) goes on to the next track in the playlist. If I locate the file (on my external drive) and play it in the finder, there's always buzzing sound at the point where the iTunes jumps to the next track.
For ripped CD's this is not a huge deal, I just re-rip & usually all is well. With eMusic, I can download again, but with iTunes, I have to file a complaint & so far they've just credited my account, which is OK, but time consuming.
At first I thought the problem was with my optical drive, but then the problem started happening with downloads from iTunes and eMusic as well. NONE of these shenanigans happened before I upgraded to iTunes 7.6, so I'm wondering if that's where the problem is. One thing's for sure: I'm not going to "jump" at the next upgrade of iTunes!
I'm totally stumped & bummed. iTunes used to be a really good friend, now I find myself wondering if I should bother with putting my entire CD collection on iTunes if it's no longer as reliable as it used to be.

I have all my music organized on an external hard disc in folders for each artist and album, but I can only import some of the folders. It’s like iTunes isn’t registering specific folders, and just skip these folders while the rest of the folders is added as normal. It's the file attributes. The files will add but when you try to add a folder it doesn't work. You can get a bulk attribute changer progeam like BulkFileChanger and get rid of the Hidden and archive attributes, This fixed my problem.

Problems with some songs in iTunes (and my iPod)

I do not know whether this is the right category for my problem, but I did not find a suitable one.
I have problems with some songs in iTunes. They do not sound right. It is hard to me to describe my problem in English (thanks to apple's "great" support...I was not able to contact them personally except by phone). The songs "hang", they sound like someone reels (?) it. The problem does not only appear with iTunes but also with my iPod nano first generation.
My godmother brang me CDs where that problems appear (but not the whole CDs have that problem, only a few songs) from the USA - I live in Germany. Maybe that is cause of the error. But I cannot imagine that, because CDs there and here have the same format and I have several CDs from the US where is no problem at all. I am absolutely sure that the CDs are originals and not a copy, by the way.
Maybe you can help me, it would be great!

Yes, I thought that's what Restore should do, but the problems remain. Hmmm, the out of order 'album's' songlist is notated 1 of 8, 2 of 8, 3 of 8... I'll try 01, 02...
Probably a good idea.
The other album is running through the list of songs like fast-forward, but not playing the songs. Then, iPod locks up.
Do these same tracks play okay in iTunes? What is the original source for these tracks? Were they downloads from the iTunes Store or imported from outside of iTunes? What format are they encoded in and at what bitrate?

Problems with importing disks

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.4.9 running itunes 7.2
I have been having a problem with itunes and/or my disk drive for a while.
When I try to import cds into itunes they very often stop importing half way through and stick in the disk drive. When this happens I find I have no choice but to force quit itunes and start again. Some cds work, others don't. But this doesn't seem to follow a pattern. Brand new cds work sometimes and old, scratched cds work sometimes as well. The problem occurs quite randomnly.
I have no problems burning disks and no problems reading or copying over non-music data. The problem only occurs when importing through itunes.
Has this happened to anybody else? Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong?

I suddenly have this problem too. I've tried to import an audio spoken word CD 4 time this evening, and when it gets to the last track, the last second of it, it sticks. I can here it chugging in the disc drive. I've cleaned the CD, I've listened to it in the iBook, and it gets to the end of the last track and has a beat going on as well as the track, so I've changed the importing preferences to "use error corrector when importing CD". I'm stuck now. It's not as if it's a song I'm losing; it's the final chapter of the book! So frustrating!

I spoke to Apple Help and they were of some help, but did not answer the question.

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

hi, I am having a problem with importing my music cd's into iTunes when I put a cd into my cd drive. The wrong information about the music cd comes up iTunes thinks that I still have the cd in the drive that I imported before. all my other cd's import fine it is just a problem with this one disc. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this ?

I am having the same problems on multiple CD...i import 1...goes ok...then when I import the new CD it say "Would you like to import "name of CD I just imported"...can't get it to read the cd title correctly..just keeps throwing up the last CD. Reboot has no effect on this problem.

Problems with Mail, Safari and iTunes after updating to 10.5.6

after installing 10.5.6 I have problems with Mail, Safari and iTunes.
The time to open mails, websides and iTunes store is increasing dramatically since the update. If I open a webside parallel with Safari and Firefox, Safari needs minimum 15 times longer to open the complete side. Mails containing HTML-code also needs a long time to be opened. Tha same Problem with iTunes store. Connecting to the Store costs at least 30 - 40 seconds. And unfortunately for every iTunes store side I open. Its terrible
Any idea or workaroung to solve that problem?

First, run Disk Utility and repair permissions and then restart.
I installed the 10.5.6 Combo update. Sometimes things get "lost in the translation" when you use Software Update depending on your installation. Perhaps you can download 10.5.6 Combo from the website and install it from your desktop.

Problems with importing text messages from PC Suit 7.1.18.0 to my Nokia 5800
I am trying to import a csv file that contains text messages (Note that this file was created using PC Suit 7.1.18.0) to a subfolder that I have created to My Folders but PC Suits only imports the text messages to the Draft folder. Note that initially it shows that the messages are import in the correct folder but after a refresh it shows them in the Draft Folder. Is their any setting that I should change in the PC Suit or the phone? My computer runs on Windows XP Service Pack 3 and the Nokia 5800 was upgraded to the latest firmware v20.0.012

Most phones only allows importing of draft and archived box for SMS.
To do a restoring, you need to backup the SMS as a .nbu file using PC Suite and restore later.
If you got an SD card, you can also do a backup on the SD Card (backup.arc) then restore later (reset and restore: backup.arc and mmc).
