Problem with installing Oracle 10g on Suse Linux
Hi everybody!
I downloaded Oracle 10g Express from this url:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/htdocs/102xelinsoft.html
it is free version for developers.
I copied it into computer where was installed Suse Linux Enterprise Edition.
But when I run it shows this kind of error:
error: rpmReadSignature failed: region failed: BAD, tag 15872 type 2047 offset 20480 count 4096
error: oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed
It was downloaded without any problem. But checksum is different from that shown on website. I think this is the problem.
What is the problem? Does anybody know answer?
Regards,
Seti's fiction
Yes, you appear to have a bad copy.
I have not had a problem when the check sum matched. Therefore I encourage you to download again.

Install Oracle 10g on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10
Will 10g install on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10? If so, what setting do I need to change to get it to install?
Yes, it will install. Oracle supports it.Apparently they forgot to tell support. Certify still holds at SLES 9.

It's possible to make it work. However, I usually watch http://www.novell.com/products/server/oracle/matrix.html for info. -

What could be the problem?
bbadtry using a download assistant like GetRight (www.getright.com) for downloading. it allows fast error free download. after that use nero/easy cd to burn the image and be sure to burn it at 8x speed and then dont forget to verify it.

Problem when installing oracle 10g on RHEL-4
greetings,
i have been trying to install oracle 10g on my linux machine for the past 10 days, everytimje i do all the steps and change the kernel parameters but when i start the runinstaller file. i get the folloeing error.
I don't know what this error is or why is it happening
you can find a snapshot of the error on the following link
http://www.4shared.com/dir/4180305/6152dc22/Oracle_errors.html
also another error is arising when i log in to the linux box with the user oracle... i have been having these errors for the past 10 days and i reached to the point where my knowledge won't help me more than ur experiences.
a snapshot of this error also is available in the above linkWhile I understand a picture is worth a thousand words, I backed off from the site as soon as it started providing active ads and spy-ware-like indications. If you want help (from me at least) please describe the symptoms.
You could also use the following sites to help with the install:

GeorgeI found another thread in this forum where you can look up how to extend your swap space (look at the bottom of that thread):
re:Out of swap space during 9iAS install.
I am very new to Linux, I am very much disappointed,
I installed Linux with lots of hopes that I can
Install Oracle tools easily on Linux and work
comfortably. Now If I cannot intall a small database
Oracle XE, even with 1GB Ram and 25GB harddrive on
Linux, I don't realize why people run for Linux.
I could Oracle XE on windows on a machine with 512
mb ram in 4 minutes.Maybe you should take into consideration that you are not so "new" to windows and that each new system has a learning curve.
Someone please help.. in detail. How to resize the
swap partition at this point.Look in the provided link.
I have very limitted or no knowldge in Linux.Maybe you should change that or stay with what you know. I don't see any other way ...
As a sidenote, each command under Linux does have a so called "man" page (from manual). You also need to open a shell to access those commands as shown in the thread.
And please, take a look at the commands in that thread before you start implementing, since for example the dd command seems only to create a file with a size of 512M.
Knowing how to use a search engine would also be a valuable asset in your current position.

Could you please tell me the rpm full name and where i can download the same?
Thanks in Advance
SAJEEV GEORGEYou need to have the following packages installed already before starting Oracle installation
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15669/pre_install.htm#sthref80
binutils-2.15.92.0.2-10.EL4

gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4
gcc-c++-3.4.3-9.EL4

gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-44.1

make-3.80-5
pdksh-5.2.14-30
sysstat-5.0.5-1
xscreensaver-4.18-5.rhel4.2
And from the following link, you can get the same list:
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml (Go to Checking Software Packages (RPMs))
And from my installation guide you can easily install Oracle on Linux by following step by step instruction

Can you install Oracle 10g on REDHAT LINUX ENTERPRISE WS?
According to oracle documentation, it says you can install oracle10g on Redhat enterprise version 3 or 4, but it doesn't specify whether its Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS or WS. Can you install oracle 10g on Rehat Linux Enterprise WS?
Oracle Certificaction Matrices says only RedHat AS/ES is supported for database. AFAIK WS means workstation.
Also this link is very clear: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_61_1135.shtm
Besides the above sentences... If the WS installation is providing all required packages (listed in installtion prerequisites) I belive that Oracle DB could be installed on WS but as I (and the above link) said it is not officialy supported. -

Sorry but the instructions are for Ubuntu 10.10, not 10.4, which is different.
