Problem with itunes after reverting back to mavericks from yosemite

I can't get iTunes to open my library after reverting back to Mavericks from the beta Yosemite. It says "iTunes cannot open this library because it was created with a newer version of iTunes." It then asks if I want to download the latest version and when I click download it takes me to the app store and says that I have the latest version. Which was downloaded when I was running Yosemite. I even downloaded the latest version from the website and it still won't open the library.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Bob

I don't know which actual versions you are seeing because I don't have Yosemite.  You're not really supposed  to discuss any issues related to beta test versions on the open forums.  I believe there is an iTunes 12 out in beta which may have been what you were running.  You don't say how you reverted to Mavericks.
The underlying issue is the file called "iTunes Library.itl"  Once you open it with a newer version it can no longer be opened by an earlier version.  However, when you do an upgrade it makes a copy of the older version and you can rename this to make a file which can be opened with the older iTunes. However, this will not reflect any changes made to your library.  Any media added will still be present in the media folder but it will have to be added to the old library.

Beta software testers are advised not to run software on their main computers, and will usually be familiar with how to restore to older versions and the working of computers.  The new public beta with Yosemite is a change in behavior for Apple but of course means a lot of people want to be a tester but don't really know what that means.

  • Reverted back to Maverick from Yosemite - extremely slow

I just spent an entire weekend reverting from Yosemite back to the previous operating system. This was the worst upgrade I have ever experienced with Apple. As it was, with Time Machine backup, it worked to restore but I lost files even though. I would like to know when will it be safe to upgrade if ever. I felt like a test-case for Apple.  I should have stayed with my system because it worked great before and very fast. This upgrade is not for everyone and I want to make sure people are warned. Some may experience nothing but good, but for me it was not!!

symptoms after upgrade to Yosimite: extremely slowness to crawling. Adobe creative software suite upgrades would not install and stalled at 42%

  • HT1589 problems with itunes after updating..can't locate some of my songs..some have an exclamation point beside them how do i get these songs back in my itunes

I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

Not sure how this is an ipod touch question.
Perhaps you should post in the itunes forum.

  • Any way to go back to Mavericks from Yosemite?

Does anyone know if it is possible to uninstall Yosemite and go back to Mavericks?  I did not realize that the handoff feature wouldnt work with my iMac and Yahoo messenger doesnt work with Yosemite and some other apps I use so I was wondering if it was possible to revert back to Mavericks?

Sure. First, get out your backup of your Mavericks system installation. Boot from it and erase your hard drive. Now clone or otherwise restore your Mavericks backup. If you have a machine from 2011 or later, then you can try:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • How to go back to Mavericks from Yosemite?

Just recently upgraded to Yosemite and I absolutely hate it. I want to go back to Mavericks, but can't seem to do so. Please give me different options, along with detailed steps, to revert back to Mavericks. Thanks.

You must have a fully bootable Mavericks system from which to boot the computer. You can then erase the volume with Yosemite, then clone the Mavericks system to the empty volume you just erased.
You can erase the drive and reinstall Mavericks if you have a USB Mavericks installer flash drive.
You can boot the computer via Internet Recovery and reinstall the original version of OS X that came with the computer. This is only feasible on models from 2011 to the present.
OS X Mavericks- Revert - Downgrade to a previous OS X version also applies to Yosemite.

  • Problem with iTunes after upgrading

Hey guys my name is jake and my issue is so:
i've upgraded my iTunes to the latest version 7.4.3 yesterday and on the same day i've installed quick time 6.5 codec for some work i needed.
now i dont know if the quick time install is relate to it but since then my itunes wont open. it just errors me and ask me if i want to send or not to send eroor report
when running quicktime( the one came with itunes) it says buffer overrun detected
i tried reinstalling itunes few times and tried to install it on older version
nothing has worked. also removed the ipod driver and reinstalled it
    havent worked either.
    any advices?
    thanks ahead
    Jake

I recently upgraded to the latest that was offered and I think it was 7.4.1. Have they made a newer one since then??
Anyways, I had a problem immediately. I have a large majority of my music on an external hard drive, and some downloaded music on my computer. After upgrading, itunes would not work, and I discovered that when I unplugged the external hard drive (which contains most of my music) itunes did work and played what was already on my laptop. Everytime I try to plug my external hard drive back in, the same problem occurs: itunes freezes and I have to shut my computer down. I also noticed that it says I have something like 6000 songs and 347 GB! I don't know how many gigs 6000 songs might be depending on length, but there is no way I have 347 gigs of music since I have nowhere near that amount of space on my hard drive and external hard drive nor do I have that much music anyways...no CLUE what is going on here.
I'm afraid to delete itunes and reinstall it because I don't want the downloaded music on my computer to be deleted and I don't currently hve a place to back it up. Have you found any solutions/know what's going on with me??

  • Syncing problem with itunes after restoring to a new PC from iPod

My old PC crashed and I copied my iTunes libray to a new PC from my iPod. The libray includes several songs taken from CD's I purchased plus several songs that I had purchased from iTunes. I also "authorized" the new PC. However, when I sync now none of the purchased songs from my new iTunes file will copy back to the iPod. It will only sync the songs from my personal CD collection. I get a message that the iPod is not authorized for these songs. Any suggestions for a fix?

Try deauthorising your PC and authorise it over again, this can sometimes clear a "not authorised" problem: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Problems with pages after installing OS X Mavericks

I have thousands of individually written invoices in pages on my MAC. When I installed OS X Mavericks the headers don't appear when I open them and doesn't appear on my templates. It would take forever to open each document and alter them. There are also some other spacing errors on the documents but I am less worried about this.
If I go back in time machine will it restore the earlier version of pages or the whole operating system or neither or both?
I also have made my standard INVOICE template the default in 'new' so it goes straight to it but having done that cannot seem to access the template selection in the way it used to so cannot write a letter that is not an invoice without deleting everything etc!!
Starting to with I hadn't moved to mavericks but I'm not technically confident enough to go back to Lion which I loved!
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi A,
Glad you found Pages '09. Your second question may be not relevant to you now, but this tip may help others.
I also have made my standard INVOICE template the default in 'new' so it goes straight to it but having done that cannot seem to access the template selection in the way it used to
I don't have Pages 5, but this is what happens in Numbers 3 when a template is the default in 'new'. File Menu no longer shows New From Template Chooser. To get it back, hold down the option key when using the File Menu.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Problems with itunes after rebuilding computer

Have had to rebuild my computer, and have re-installed itunes on a new hard drive. I always stored all my music on another hard drive, but cannot get the library to show all the songs I have (over 8000) - I also do not want to have to generate all the playlists again. Can anybody give me a hint about how I can get back to how it was before my computer failed? Help and advice greatly appreciated

    Julian,
To restore your library and playlists will require a back-up copy from your old system of the iTunes Library files .
If you have a back-up copy of those files, put them into the iTunes folder on your C drive (and take out the library files that are already there) and as long as the path to the music on the other drive hasn't changed, you should be all set.
If you don't have a back-up copy of the library files, then you will have to re-create the playlists yourself. In that case to get the songs to appear in the Library use the iTunes File menu > Add Folder to Library command and select the folder on the other drive where you're keeping your music.
    Any further questions, post back.

  • How to back to maverick from Yosemite

    I have iMac2008 & 2007. In 2007 I still have Maverick but I have changed the 2008 to Yosemite.
I would like to transfer Maverick from 2007 to 2008 iMac because ever since I changed to Yosemite my computer crashed.
Therefore; I would like to go back the 2008 Mac to Maverick.
Is anyone know that I can do that?

if the recovery disk is already at Yosemite it will restore it to Yosemite.
if the mac was originally purchased on mavericks if you do an internet recovery then it should revert back to the os that it was originally purchased with this can be done by holding command + option + r
it will boot into internet recovery and follow the process the same from there

  • Problems with iTunes after 4.0 OS update

    Hi all, first post here.
I've had my iPhone 8GB 3G since last December. I went to download iOS 4.0 last night, (it DID work, although it took forever). After the upgrade, I cannot download any new apps, or sometimes even get into the App Store at all. Every time I do, I get an "Cannot connect to iTunes" error. I have my password in, full bars of 3G service, but for some reason, I cannot download ANY new apps.
Then, there is a few games that will not even open, some apps will just randomly quit working, etc.
I LOVE my 3G, and have NEVER had a single issue until after I downloaded this iOS 4.0 upgrade.
Any idea on what to do ? I tried shutting my phone off, then on again, to no help.
Oh well, I pick up my new iPhone 4 tomorrow, so my 3G probably knows it's getting put to the backseat once my new phone arrives
