Problem with JLabel mousePressed()

Hello
I want to display the name like a html look in the JPanel and acts like a button function. So I have used JLabel and gave mousePressed() but its not providing any action out of it.
In previous forms, I had seen JLabel is only for display and not for any actions. So how can I get the actionPerformed() functionality.

  • Displaying dynamically changing image: a problem with JLabel.

    Hello! I use NetBeans 5.5 and I develop my GUI with Matisse. I'm rather a beginner in developing GUIs with this editor...
    I'd like to display a dynamically changing image. The idea is: GUI shows the image, that is modified as some computations run in a different thread. App will be run on a single machine.
    I'm trying to display the image as a label's icon. The problem is that my app's frame can be resized - and when it is, the label also resizes. When the label is resized, the image should also be resized - the image should always be of the same size as the label. The problem? I noticed, that it works only when I make my app's bigger. When I try to lower its dimensions, the label's dimensions remain the same. Why the label don't make its size smaller?
    My code works as follows: when app's main frame is resize, the panel (the one, that the label is placed in) is also resized. And, since the label is in the panel, it (should) also be resized. So I wrote all the resize-events handlers (therefore I know that the resize event is sent when my app's frame is resized, and when the panel is resized - but the label is resized only when it grows bigger). In this methods I modify the image displayed in the label (I resize the image).
    Or, perhaps, there is some other way to show a (dynamically changing) image with Swing... I chose JLabel, because I didn't want to write my own JComponent. JLabel can display image and that is all I need. The problem is: when the label grows bigger, I create a new, bigger image (icon). Why my label don't get smaller (the resize event isn't even sent)?

    There is no component that dynamically resizes an image. You need to create your own. Something like this:

  • Problem with Jlabel

    Dear All,
    Please, is anybody could advise what's wrong with the following code?
    loading.setText("loading...");
    loading.setVisible(true);
    launchProc(fields_array,cp, conn_string, username_, password_);
    loading.setText("completed.");the loading JLabel is not displayed till launchProc method has finished, what could be the reason?
    I wanted to display "loading..." string to show the actual status and then when the actual operation finishes display "completed" as actual status.
    Please, is there any other way to do it?

    Hard to say without knowing the rest of your code, but let me take a guess here... you are probably invoking those commands from the AWTEventThread (you could test that by adding System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName()); to your program). What happens is the setVisible(boolean) command is dispatched and added to the AWT queue, however, the thread responsible for actually drawing your JLabel is then trapped in the launchProc method, causing your entire gui to freeze. You will have to launch your process in another Thread if you want to prevent that.

  • Problem with JLabel width

    Well, the subject is quite clear.
    I created a JLabel, and when I wanna know what its width is, 0 is returned.

    Hi,
    You should call getPreferredSize to get the size of the label. PreferredSize is the width and height that the label thinks it should be and is what the layout manager will request of it to perform its' layout. The size is the actual size that the layout manager will assign to the label and is not valid until the layout manager is done managing (after show or pack are called).

  • Problem with java.awt.MouseInfo or java.awt.event.*;

    I have a problem with the MouseInfo class. I think.. because in my mousePressed(MouseEvent event) method, I have this:

         }I think you all could figure out what this does. I declared the variables at the top and I implemented MouseListener... when I click it doesnt tell me the X and Y coords.

  • Can some one help me with this problem with my frame???

    i have gt a veri strange problem with my program,that is teh graphic changes only when i resize the the frame,if i dun resize,it will remain the same.However what i intended is that when i click on the radio button,it will change immediately to the respective pages.A simple version of my code is below,can someone helpl me solve it??(there is 3 different class)

  • Advance level drawing problem with Jframe and JPanel need optimize sol?

    Dear Experts,
    I m trying to create a GUI for puzzle game following some kind of "game GUI template", but i have problems in that,so i tried to implement that in various ways after looking on internet and discussions about drawing gui in swing, but i have problem with both of these, may be i m doing some silly mistake, which is still out of my consideration. please have a look at these two and recommend me one of them, which is running without problems (flickring and when you enlarge window the board draw copies (tiled) everywhere,
    Note: i don't want to inherit jpanel or Jframe

  • Design problem with JScrollPane

    First, I have problems with english. I hope u understand without problems that Im trying to say here. Sorry about that.
    Mi problem is whit a JScrollPane. I want to put an image whit a predefined size for draw inside it. I dont have any information about it, just the size. I want to put it in a JPane. The best choice is use the JPane area. The problem is that I want to use a JScrollPane because the image is bigger that the visualization area.
    Im unable to put a Canvas in the ScrollPane, or a JPane whit a predefined size or an image whit a predefined size. Im sure that is a design problem. Somebody can tell me something I can start whit? What do u think is better choice to put inside a JScrollPane?
    I dont send any source code because I dont have anything else that is show in the example.

  • Problem with writing and reading using serialization

    I am having a problem with writing and reading an object that has another object in it. The purpose of the class is to write a order that has multiple items in it. And there will be several orders. This is for an IB project, where one of the requirements is to utilize a hierarchical composite data structure. That is, it is "one that contains more than one element and at least one of the elements is a composite data structure.     ok i got reading to work to a certain extent... but the prob is i cnt seem to save my innerCustOrdObj proprly...when ever i look for a record using the gotorecordbtn, the outerobject, which is the orderDetails, seems to change but the innerCustOrdObj remains the same... heres the new code..

  • Problem with filePathSeperator and /

    Problem with fileSeperatorChar and /. When I use fileSeperatorChar (to lacate a folder), the path is specified wrong. I want my program to run on different OS, so I need this to work.
    If I do this:
    JLabel label = new JLabel("", new ImageIcon("Images/label.gif");
    //or something like that it works. Will this give me multiple platform support?
    But when I try:
    JLabel label = new JLabel("", new ImageIcon("Images" + filePathSeperatorChar + "label.gif");
    //or something like that They all compile, but I took this off the top of my head. Anyway, when I print out the path for the second technuige, the path reads like this:
    Images;label.gif

    You used filePathSeparator. On Windows you use a semicolon to separate the components of a path, which is a list of directories or jar files, which is why you are getting a semicolon. You want the system property "file.separator" instead. Or use the variable File.separatorChar.

  • Focus Problem with JTree and Menus

    Hi all,
    I have a problem with focus when editing a JTree and selecting a menu. The problem occurs when the user single clicks on a node, invoking the countdown to edit. If the user quickly clicks on a menu item, the focus will go to the menu item, but then when the countdown finishes, the node now has keyboard focus.
    Below is code to reproduce the problem. Click on the node, hover for a little bit, then quickly click on the menu item.

    I'm not going to even attempt to resolve the problem posted. There are other problems with your code that should take priority.
    -- class names by convention start with a capital letter.
    -- don't use the name of a common class from the standard API for your custom class, not even with a difference of case. It'll come back to bite you.
    -- don't mix awt and Swing components in the same GUI. Change your class that extends Canvas to extend JPanel instead, and override paintComponent(...) instead of paint(...).
    -- launch your GUI on the EDT by wrapping it in a SwingUtilities.invokeLater or EventQueue.invokeLater.
    -- calling setSize(...) followed by pack() is meaningless. Use one or the other.
    -- That's not the correct way to display a component in a scroll pane.
    Ah, well, and the problem is that when you call pack(), it retrieves the preferredSize of the components in the JFrame, and you haven't set a preferredSize for the scroll pane.

    I have a problem with animated gifs. So if I set a animated gif as background and a button is over it as in the example below, then everytime the animation goes on the button disappears until I go over it with the mouse. So what can I do to solve this?

    Your usage of the getLayeredPane() method is something I've never seen before, so I don't know if thats the problem or not.
    How to display a "background image" is asked all the time in the Swing forum. So to familiarize yourself with the forum you can try searching the Swing forum. Using the keywords I highlighted would be a good place to start.
