When I run this

    I wasn't sure where to post this... After attempting to follow the tutorial Wii Tutorial here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wii_Tutorial I discovered that the kernel-headers dependency of glibc is set to the wrong version. The dependency is kernel-headers version 2.6.29.4. However, in the repository, the current version is 2.6.29.1-1. I'm not sure what's going on here.

  • Laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0

    today I just updated the system and my laptop runs dramatically hotter after that. I read the archwiki, it does talk about the laptop mode tools problem with kernel 3.0 but when I opened the file /usr/sbin/laptop_mode, the lines which the wiki mentions are not there. Does anyone here have the same problem and can you offer the solution?

    I had the problem but edited the line in /usr/sbin/laptop_mode and it worked. But thoes lines are not there anymore. I guess they changed it at the recent update of laptop-mode-tools.
    Regarding your heat problem; is there any other thing you use to cut down power usage (from AUR  maybe)? I use acpi_call from AUR had to edit lines there aswell, but it should be updated by now.

  • HELP! Problem with KERNEL PANICS!

    Hi everyone!
    I have a serious problem with kernel panics - it doesn't seem to be connected with a certain type of program, but seems to be completely random. I have reinstalled my OS X and updated it, but the kernel panics just keep on coming and if possible it actually seemed to make matters worse! Now it doesn't always show the bar at the top of the screen when I turn it on, and sometimes programs like iTunes and Safari, just won't work until I restart the mac. I've also done a harware test - no faults detected. I had an idea that it might be AutoCad causing it, as it started sometime after I installed it - it was also the first program I reinstalled after OS X reinstallation - but I haven't used the AutoCad a whole lot and the panics happen way more often.
    I am completely at a loss now as I'm not exactly a computer expert. If anyone can deduce something from my most recent panic log which could help me find out what's causing all this, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Hi everyone!
    I have a serious problem with kernel panics - it doesn't seem to be connected with a certain type of program, but seems to be completely random. I have reinstalled my OS X and updated it, but the kernel panics just keep on coming and if possible it actually seemed to make matters worse! Now it doesn't always show the bar at the top of the screen when I turn it on, and sometimes programs like iTunes and Safari, just won't work until I restart the mac. I've also done a harware test - no faults detected. I had an idea that it might be AutoCad causing it, as it started sometime after I installed it - it was also the first program I reinstalled after OS X reinstallation - but I haven't used the AutoCad a whole lot and the panics happen way more often.
    I am completely at a loss now as I'm not exactly a computer expert. If anyone can deduce something from my most recent panic log which could help me find out what's causing all this, I would greatly appreciate it!

  • Problems with kernel panics when sleeping since 10.6.8

    Hi folks,
    I installed 10.6.8 the day it was issued, and since then have had some very odd problems with sleeping my Mac Pro. Intermittently, it goes into a half-sleep state when I request sleep mode; the fans still spin, but the sleep light pulses. It refuses to wake up, requiring a hard reset. The console logs show:

    The specific panic is:

    where cpu X varies between any one of the 6 cores.
    So far, I've tried
    Resetting the PRAM and SMC
    Disabling a raft of sleep related options (Wake on Bluetooth, etc)
    Reinstalling the 10.6.8 update via the Combo updater
    Repairing disk permissions
    Reinstalling from the factory DVD and re-running the combo updater
    And no doubt other things I've forgotten. The only thing that seems to fix it is to not install 10.6.8; when I reinstalled 10.6.4 (the factory OS), it slept and woke fine 10 times. As soon as the combo update was installed, it started sleep crashing again after 4-5 attempts.
    I'm assuming this is some rogue driver bug introduced in the .8 release, but I've not seen anyone else suffering the problem. I would roll back onto .7, but will obviously need .8 to install Lion when it arrives.
    Does anyone have any suggestions that I've missed, or has anyone else seen this problem?

    Woops, sorry - typo. I meant 5870 (Apple provided). As far as I know, I'm not running any 3rd party drivers. The only non-Apple kernel extensions loaded are Parallels, which I've unloaded (and the problem persisted).
    I should also mention, the Apple Hardware Test passes the machine.
    I'll check out those two forums and see if I can find anything. Thanks for the advice!

    It varies slightly (sometimes some extensions are unloaded, sometimes not). The BSD process name changes almost every time; anything from Window Server to Mail.

  • Problem with kernel 2.6.19 and ipw3945 from testing

    After kernel and ipw3945 packages update from testing my wireless network profile isn't working any more so there's something wrong with one of those. Ipw3945 module is loaded but network profile simply fails to start (maybe problems with dhcp?). With kernel and ipw3945 from current everything works fine.
    Anyone has similar problem?

    The extra version (i.e. the one that's been upgraded to 1.1.2) was compiled for the kernel26 package in extra (2.6.18), wheras the version in testing was compiled for the kernel26 in testing (2.6.19).  Thus the module in extra won't work if you're using the newer kernel.
    I hope the testing package gets upgraded soon, since it sucks not being able to use wireless!  I tried to update the PKGBUILD myself, but couldn't get a working module...

  • VMWare problems with Kernel 2.6.30

    I'd appreciate it if someone could help me with this issue:
    I recently installed the latest Kernel of arch 2.6.30, and have tried installing VMware and constantly run into a problem with the vmmon and not being support for the kernel.
    I have tried installing VMware Workstation 6.5.2 and VMware Workstation 6.5.3
    I am sure I could use any other open source products but I have been using VMware in windows so would like to be able to keep those VMs

    According to the "Installing VMWare" page on the Wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware) you have to do this:
    sudo mv /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary /usr/lib/vmware/modules/binary.old
    sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

  • SAP Solution Manager SR1 with MSSQL on W2K3 IA32 - Problem with Kernel

    we are implementing a sandbox in order to test the SAP Solution Manager 4.0 SR1 with MSSQL on W2K3 IA32. Therefore we ordered the installation CD for the above mentioned configuration. Instead of getting the SAP NETWEAVER Kernel SR1 we got SR2. Now we have the problem, that the installation program SAPINST is requesting the SR1- Kernel.
    Unforunately the SR1-Kernel seems no longer available in the download section.
    It would be fine to get a suggestion how to solve the problem.

    thanks for the hint, I have already checked the LABEL.ASC. I have no LABEL.ASC-Key for the SAP Netweaver 2004s SR1, so it would be a possibilty to substitue this key. But neverhteless, I think, there should be another official procedure in order to use the SR2 instead of the old SR1. I have contacted Klaus Billing at SAP as recommended in the OSS Note 918078.   • [SOLVED] Touchpad problems with Kernel-2.6.28

    I just updated my kernel to 2.6.28. Everythink is working fine (including my Atheros AGN wireless ). The only problem I have now is the Touchpad. After update the double click on the touchpad and the scroll function is not working any more.
    Anyone knows why or is having the same problem?

  • CFHTTP problem with Host Headers

    I am trying to post a form on a windows server using cfhttp.
    The website relies on host headers to work properly (there are many sites on the server), but cfhttp posts appear not to send the required header information, returning a "No websites are configured" error message.
    I've tried sending header info with <cfhttpparam type="header" name="host" value="www.mydomain.tld"> and it hasn't worked.
    It may be important to know that the domain name is local only and relies on an entry in the hosts file, both on the browser machine and the server machine.
    I have recently reconfigured the web server.  Previously, each site had its own IP address, but now they are all the same and using host headers.  Before, when each site had a unique IP, the cfhttp posts worked fine.
    Is there a way to get them working in the host header configuration?

    The hosts file is used by the machine initiating TCP/IP communications to resolve an IP address from a domain name.  It's not used by the server to resolve a domain name from incoming HTTP requests (how could it: many domain names could map to the same IP address?).  The hosts file is a TCP/IP conceit; host headers are an HTTP conceit.  They are only loosely related in that HTTP is transported over TCP/IP.
    On your client some agent makes a request to a domain name (this can be any TCP/IP protocol, not just HTTP).  The hosts file is checked to see if the domain name has a mapping, and if it does, the request is routed to that IP address.  If there's no entry, then the standard DNS look-ups are made, and the IP address is found that way.  But that's the only involvement in the request (or any sort of routed traffic) that the hosts file has.
    Can you replicate this behaviour with <cfhttp> requests and other web servers, or is it just that one?  IE: can you set up a web server in the lab which has the same web site / host header config, and see the same problem when making <cfhttp> requests?  Does the web server log failed requests like this?  Usually IIS's logs are website-centric aren't they?  And if the request is not making to a web site, is it logged some other way?
    Can you inspect the incoming request to see if any of the headers are bung?
    Are you sure your host header for your website has the exact domain name the <cfhttp> request is... err... requesting?  And that you're making the request on the same port, and IP address as the host header is configured for?
    I really doubt <cfhttp> is the culprit here - at least in the way you're suggesting - because almost every web server in existence will be serving more than one website, and it's not like <cfhttp> usually has this problem...

  • Problem with kernel panic message - Cannot boot from disk or usb

    Hi Everyone,
    I was wondering if someone could help me with a problem I've been trying to tackle for the last few days. I have a 24" iMac 2.33 Ghz Dual Core, with 2 gigs of RAM. A couple of days ago my computer crashed, and when I tried to boot up again I got the infamous grey screen kernel panic message ("You need to restart your computer..."). What's worse is that I get the same message when I try booting from my external drive and the installation disk itself.
    I've basically planned on formatting since it's been a while anyway, but since I can't boot from my external drive or the installation disk that came with my computer these are not options at the moment. I can only get into the computer via safe mode. I've used disk utility to verify the disk, and it comes up with no errors. Anyways, I'd really appreciate if anyone had any advice on this. I've scoured the internet for advice about kernel panic messages, and they all suggest booting from disk or external drive etc., which is not a possibility for me right now.

    If you get a panic when trying to boot from the installation disc, and the disc is not scratched or dirty, then you have a hardware fault.
    Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
    Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
    *An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
    There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to fully boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup) or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”

    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

    1. New gdm ignores my fluxbox windowmanager! After severall reboots it worked suddenly: Don't know why!

    Though "setxbdmap de" was working I downgraded to the previous kernel and gdm version!
    I think testing cycle for new versions is definitely to short, or did I make serious faults!

    I sort of had this problem for a while in a rescue usb drive I have, I couldn't make it work properly, but as root all was well (xfce was also acting a little strange as a user).
    I just renamed the user home, deleted the user and created a new account, all fresh, just copied back some configs (firefox and the likes) and all was working well again ... no idea of what happened. I don't use a login manager, I just start xfce manually (it's a rescue drive I want to be able to change xorg.conf before starting X if needed).

  • [Solved] Very strange problem with kernel-modules & NTFS write speed

    I was getting very low copying speed when copying files to NTFS partitions, around 8-10 MB. But, when I commented the modules section in /etc/rc.conf file, the speed dramatically improved upto 5-6x. Now, it also created some problems for me. Like vboxdrv is required by Virtualbox to function & cpufreq_ondemand is required by my AMD processor. Please help me & tell what I'm doing wrong.     Sorry for replying late.. Was very busy.. So, the thing is that I disabled every module & loaded only microcode & powernow-k8 in /etc/rc.local. Now, I'm getting good speed while copying data but the problem is that the processor is running & full speed i.e. 3.0 GHz. I checked it via cat /proc/cpuinfo. Also, there is a message in the bootime, that i'm posting here..

  • Major Problem with kernel panic on new iMac: HELP!

    My housemates 24" core 2 duo imac kernel panicked when playing Call of duty 2 (side question: if anyone has any reason why it keeps freezing and the screen getting full of horizontal lines would love to hear from you)
    Now I can not start the computer. Whenever I restart, it plays the chime, but then has another kernel panic. Spoke to apple.. i reset the pram.. and then it came back.. ive zero data deleted my hardrive then re-installed osx.. and it is still doing it!! (i ran hardware tests and said everything was working fine..)
    The graphics card is nvidia 7600GT
    Also.. When starting up the imac, just after the apple logo white screen turns to the desktop, the screen flashes a lime green for a split second.. i know that shouldnt happen!
    It wont let me send a report to apple wen i get a window saying "imac shut down unexpectantly".. when the button clicks.. no report comes up.
    The operating is a 24" 2.16 Ghz iMac intel 2 core duo, 1GB RAM!
    Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    I had the same problems. New iMac 24" arrived last week (a replacement because the first one had a faulty screen and keyboard). Set it up at the weekend and it seemed fine for 48 hours until I started watching a DVD on Christmas Day. About 2 minutes into the DVD I got a kernel panic, then the computer would not restart. I left it about an hour and tried again. It started successfully, but had another kernel panic when I opened the Dashboard. Again, it failed to restart. I think that something is overheating whenever the computer tries to do any 'work' and then it crashes. I too got panics when trying to boot from the installation disc. Spoke to customer support over the phone and nothing we tried worked, so I've had to send back for another replacement system.

    I have created a dynamic internal table and displaying it as ALV using SALV classes. Problem is that  when I download this ALV to Excel I'm not getting Column headings same as they are in ALV display.

    While creating dynamic table i'm passing short/ Medium & Long text too. Still it is not working.

    Look I cant actually post the code as it is divided in some global classes and main program. But i can elaborate the steps little further:
    1: I have created a field catalog for Dynamic internal table. In it i have passed every necessary field along with short/medium/Long texts.
    2: I fill up this dynamic table with data.
    3: I assign a field symbol to this dynamic internal table.
    4: I pass this field symbol to the factory method of CL_SALV_TABLE  Class.
    Thats it buddy..Hope u have understood my problem.
