PROBLEM WITH KT4A-V MOBO

Just bought a kt4a-v mobo. using AMD Duron 1800+ processor... having trouble with wiring the LED, POWER, RESET wires... Installed everything.  1 cd drive and 1 hard drive.  press power on and red light comes on solid.  fans and processor fan come on, but no power coming from cd drive and hard drive.. tried different combo's of power supply connectors, to make sure all connections work.  All power connections work with fans and proccessor fan....  could i just have the front pan wires wrong? tried different combos and nothing....
Why isn't power going to cd and hard disk???  Any help ASAP would be greatly appreciated...thanks.
by the way, I just registered!!! New boy on the block!!!!!!!

A big thanx to fafner and stu online!
I tried all these troubleshoots.....for a minute i was doubting my skillz...anyway, somebody was getting impatient and did not want to wait, so i told them i could refund them minus the restocking fee of 15% the store charges.......some people just don't understand that machines can be faulty....i stripped the box down and will be having the mobo, box wires and processor tested before i return everything.
the cd drive and hd work fine...i tested them on my box and they came right up.  i tried every combo with the wires, jumpers and even went as far as popping out the battery onboard......again thanks for the input and the quick replies.....peace.......

  • Problems with Micro atx mobo

I just got a new micro atx mobo just to replace my older one (it didnt have a flippin AGP slot!), so i put in all of my old components, and after i would get past the BIOS, it would just restart the whole comp. this would go on endlessly. im not sure exactly what happened then, but now even when i start it up, the display doesnt show at all. i currently have a 200W psu but i thought that even if just the cpu, mem, monitor were plugged in alone, there wouldnt be a problem with power, considering how its the same psu that powered all the same parts full scale.
anybody have any tips so i can get this mobo/ nvidia 6600gt up and running, so i can get more than 25 fps in half life 2?

Probably insufficient powers. Try a more powerful PSU and see if problem replicates.
I would also need you to list out your full system specs as what you've given is too limited

  • Multiplier problems with SiS648 (6585) mobo

i got a SiS648 (6585) mobo with the lates bios
and a new P4 2.6 gighz (it COULD be a hypertreadering, not sure, but my mobo doesn't support it, so it should just function as a norma cpu)
the problem is, my PC saw it as a 1.3 gighz pc
so i think i should put the fsb to 133 mhz and the multiplier to 19
    that should make 2.59
but i can't get the multiplier to go up. i can edit it all i want in the setting but it won't go faster
so now i'm BACK to my old speed of 1.7 gighz with my NEW cpu
    any help would be great
    thank

no no no, the cpu IS a 533 lhz FSB (it's imprinted like that on the cpu itselve)

  • Problems with K7N2 Delta mobo

Hey I'm new here because of a problem I've had with the K7N2 Delta motherboard.  I've done some research and I've noticed the problem appear to other users of this mobo as well.  Before I bought this mobo I had a soundblaster live! value sound card and when I intalled this mobo I thought I wouldn't need my soundblaster soundcard so I stored it away.  Well after a few months my pantience ran thin on this mobo's sound problems.  For one, it keeps making this static like sound sometimes, so I tried to install my soundblaster sound card on the new mobo, I downloaded the lastest driver for it and changed my default sound driver to the soundblaster live! that I have but it made no sound at all.  After removing the nvidia nForce 2 sound driver I had on my mobo to see if it would help I still had no luck in making my soundcard work.  Is it possible that the soundcard is conflicting with the mobo's internal audial capability?

    Hi,
Vampir, and welcome to the forum
Try putting your your soundcard in PCI slot 3.
Is it the -L version or the ILSR version motherboard you are using!

Btw, how many IRQ's do you have 16 or 23?
To find your list of IRQ's:
Go to Start>Run> Then Type: "msinfo32" (without quotes). The "System Information" window should now be open. Click on + "Hardware Resources" in left pane - then on IRQ's in the list that appears below it. You should now see a list of all IRQ's in the left panel! Which can be cut and pasted if you wish!
They can also be found in Device Manager!

    Ah, that solves it.
I forgot to mention: you can run 4 dimms, but not at full speed. You need to fall back to 800MHz when the cpu supports 1066. In your case, this is true. So running at 800MHz shouldn't give any trouble.
Is there a particular setting in bios I need to set to do 800 or is it set to AUTO,or just set it to 400.

  • Registry/boot problem with K8T Neo mobo (solved)

    I got similar problem: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=40752&sid=
Though my error message is: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"
I did NOT have this problem before i enabled the Realtek gigabit ethernet controller in BIOS.. But now when it is enabled everything runs/installs/reboots fine... until i shut down and when i turn power on next day i get that error message.
So: when Realtek 8169/8110 gigabit ethernet NIC is enabled in BIOS, necessary drivers installed and system shut down, registry get corrupted while shutting down.
I had AMI BIOS 1.1 when got this first time (after enabling realtek), flashing to 1.2 didn't help.
I also tried newest realtek 8169/8110 drivers (5.611.1231.2003) instead of original (5.606.811.2003)(they're still in msi neo-fis2r page i see) but it didn't help either.
So, any suggestions? i believe the integrated realtek causes the problem because it didn't occur before i enabled it from bios->integrated stuff...  or is there any other possible reason?
oh, msinfo32 says that radeon 9800XT, IEEE1394 controller (firewire in audigy2) and realtek controller share the same IRQ 16.. i removed firewire controller but it didn't help.. could radeon and realtek sharing the same IRQ be the problem?

Didn't try the external yet, i'll still try something with this.
:: Do you have a home network setup, or connect straight to modem?
    straight to modem.
i doubt it is the audigy, it worked before... and i've disabled everything i don't need like onboard audio, onboard 1394.. (never installed 'em)
i noticed one thing: all people with similar problems are running win2000 SP4, you run XP so it's ok.
MS knowledge base says "If one or two registry hives consistently become corrupted for no reason, the problem probably occurs at shutdown and is not discovered until you try to load the registry hive at the next restart. In this scenario, the registry hive is written to disk when you shut down the computer, and this process may stop the computer or a component in the computer before the writing is completed." http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822705
so something (realtek?) is writing to the registry while i shut down the pc.
i'm gonna disable realtek before shutdown & see if it boots without errors... if it does, i'll just have to disable it *always* before shutdown.... sounds like driver error for me?

  • Really weird Problem with NEO-FISR mobo.

I'm new to this site, but I am not a noob.  However this is a first for me, and haven't gotten any answers from any of my co workers.  I'm hoping someone else with my board (875P NEO-FISR) will have an answer.
Anywho, PC was working fine.  Put it in standby mode to watch TV for awhile and come back to check e-mail a few hours later.  I hit the power button and everything lights up, fans start spinning, but no POST.  THen it shuts down after like 3 seconds.  Then another 2 seconds and it pops on, pops on and off continually after that until I hit the switch on the power supply.
This happened twice today, and has happened maybe 3 times prior.  However, every other time was a long time ago when I first set everthing up.  Its been like 2 months now and here we go again.
Ididn't change anything this morning when I left the PC so I don't know what is causing it.
Its a real pain in the ass though cuz I have to clear the CMOS jumper in order too get back up and running.  Then I have to reconfigure all my BIOS settings.
SO, has anyone else heard of this happening??  Happened to you???  Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated!  Thanks

I have the version 1 875P-FIS2R board and it does the same thing.
Originally, I just stopped using S3 suspend mode but I have since started using it again and bumped my performance mode down to "fast" to make this work as per a suggestion from another user on the forum(Mitch66).
You can read more on this from This Thread.
Never did ever hear of a fix for this.

  • Problem with G31M3 F Mobo

I have put together a system using the above, with Intel E5200 CPU, 4Gb of Corsair DDR2 6400 RAM and a Maxtor 250gb HDD. Also have an nvidia geforce 9800 gtx, but that is not currently installed.
I am getting an "unknown BIOS error" at startup. It was code FFFF while the gfx card was connected, but now it has changed to FFF6. At various points it has made reference to ACPI compatability, but I think I have this turned off now.
I am guessing I need to update the bios. It tells me I am currently running v1.1 of A7528IMS.
However, I am struggling to either create a boot disc or boot usb drive to facilitate this.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be most appreciative. If you need more info, please ask.
As you can probably tell, I'm not exactly an expert at this.

I can enter the bios and all the usual options are there, Standard CMOS Features, Advanced CMOS features, etc, etc.
I have changed a few settings, tried fail-safe defaults, tried optimized defaults, always the same message.
If I press F1 at the bios error message, it will start booting from the Windows disc, but almost immediately I get a BSOD, telling me the bios is not fully ACPI compliant and that I need to update the bios. Which I can't do!!!!!! :(
I feel like I'm going in circles.
I don't have another Intel chip I can try instead. I've tried both sticks of ram independently. I've tried without the HDD or DVD drive connected. Nothing works.
I have searched for a setting or a jumper to deactivate write protection, but I cannot find anything.

You could try the v3.2 BIOS but I'm not sure it will help you.

  • Strange major problem with 975X PowerUp Intel MOBO

I’m suddenly having a strange major problem with a MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition V2.1 MS-7246 Intel socket 775 motherboard. Previously, it had given me no problems at all.
    It went like this:
Powered on system in the morning, booting from a cold start.
Hit DEL key to get into the BIOS.
Missed the window and the system booted into Windows normally.
Re-started the system from within Windows.
Hit DEL key to get into the BIOS and was successful the second time.
Hit the ENTER key on the first item “Standard CMOS Features”.
The DATE, TIME and other information was displayed on the next screen, but at this point, the BIOS screen became completely unresponsive to any keyboard input.
The only thing I could do at that point was to power off.
Subsequent power on boot-ups resulted in the system always freezing at the BIOS splash screen after the video card sign-on.
I have switched power supplies, hard drives, keyboards and video cards. I have disconnected everything except the video card, keyboard and one RAM module. I have switched the four RAM modules around and then reduced the RAM to one 256MB module in the proper slot. I even changed the battery on the MOBO, in case it had shorted out and removed and re-seated the BIOS chip. It still halts at the BIOS splash screen.
The BIOS chip can’t be completely dead, because I powered off and pushed the BIOS reset button on the MOBO to reset the BIOS to the factory defaults. When I re-booted, I could tell that it had actually reset to the factory defaults because I had previously set the BIOS to reboot the system on resumption of power and the factory default was to remain off until the power button was pushed, which was now the default.
I’m stumped! All I can think of is to get a new pre-programmed BIOS chip and see if that makes any difference, but I’m not sure this system is even worth the expense with no guarantee of success. Any suggestions on how I might get past the BIOS splash screen or do I for sure have a corrupt BIOS chip?

System specs as per the posting guidelines -
Board: MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition V2.1 MS-7246 Intel socket 775
Bios: Version (can’t recall & can’t check since it won’t go past the BIOS splash screen)
VGA: ASUS EN7600GS nVidia GeForce 7600GS PCI-e 256MB DDR2 (also tried new XFX nVidia
             Geforce 210 PCI-e 2.0 512MB DDR3)
PSU: Chiefmax 680W ATX (also tried new OCZ 700W ATX)
    CPU: Intel 2.8GHz LGA-775 Core2 Duo Dual-Core Processor
    MEM: 4 x Samsung 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-5300U (2GB total)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA2 (also tried Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA2)
    COOLER: Intel OEM LGA 775 fan/heatsink C25897-001
    OC: No
    OS: Vista Home Premium 32-bit
I have been through the BIOS reset procedure several times and pretty much as outlined. As I said before, I could tell that it had taken a reset to the factory defaults, because the power on option had changed.

  • KM2M mobo problem with Duron 1.1

To all who have had problems with a KM2M motherboard. Factory setting for the mobo is with the jumper at 133 FSB. The mobo doesn't seem to have autodetection of FSB since when I installed the Duron 1.1 Ghz it booted up with the Duron at 1.5 Ghz. Needless to say the mobo did POST once and the second time crashed miserably.
If the CPU isn't burned up in the first instance and you're lucky just take out the jumper and switch it to the 100 FSB setting. The jumper is in between the AGP and first PCI slot. Once that's done the mobo should POST just nicely and the Duron will live happily ever after ;-).
Can't complain much, but MSI guys you should have put a note for complete newbies that you if have a Duron processor it might be good to switch the jumper to 100 FSB cause the board doesn't do it on its own. If there's a BIOS update later on that auto detects the FSB the better for us.
The KM2M is a very good mobo and I'm very excited that I've managed to build a PC under 200 pounds and a word of warning to potential buyers of this board. Make sure when you buy to check if the board has AGP or not! Ask the supplier which version it is! You don't want to miss out on having an AGP slot even if the price might be lower by 10%.

Wouldn't you agree though that the manual should mention this in BOLD letters that if you are installing a Duron you should always make sure that you have the proper FSB setting? I mean I'm a newbie at building systems but I always RTFM  :D

  • Problems with my Mobo - Hangs at "Testing Real Time Clock" - Whats up?

    Specs:
    MSI K7 Master - MS-6341
    AthlonXP 1800+
    512 PC2100 DDR
40 gig Maxtor or Seagate 7200rpm, 2mb cache - tried both
    Pine 56x CD Rom
    eVGA GeforceFX 5200
Generic 420watt PS AND Antec TruePower 430 watt PS - same results
Alright, I can access the BIOS, etc. but after the first startup screen (with ram, processor type, IDE config, etc.) the screen just has a underscore blinking at the top left...and the error system says Testing Real Time Clock - Ive basically narrowed it down to the IDE connectors since I can unplug the hard drives and it gets past that section and asks for a boot drive - anyone have similar problems? I know he board is old but its for the family and Im stuck right now and I got some anxious members of my family wanting to know whats up with the system - any help will be appreciated...
It should be noted that I was able to install/run Windows for a couple of days - then I got stability problems which was from the BIOS overclocking my ram past spec but I fixed that and Windows was fine but now I cant boot back up and it cant be virus or bad hard drive because Ive tried more than one - some people who also have this problem can sometimes boot to their OS but its usually not the case...thanks again for the suggestions..
    Things Ive Tried:
    Replaced the CMOS battery
    Cleared CMOS
    Change IDE channels
    Tried just the hard drive
    Removed jumper from hard drive
    Cleared CMOS
    Reseated the ram
    Reseated Video card
    Cleared CMOS
If someone can find a working solution for this, Ill give them something in return - like some DVDs or cash or something, I really need some help..
    - Adam/vicks

No problems with the mobo physically - I got it new from a trusted guy on some forums I goto (anandtech) new from an RMA - still sealed...
I have it running....again....it doesnt like that 1st IDE channel for some reason - Ive restarted/rebooted a few times and nothing has happened so hopefully its fixed but still not cool - Im almost 100% sure it will happen again...
