Problem With Low Disk Space - Message - Email and ...

Hi all,
I have a N97 and i noticed that when i have around 200 stored messages in my sent and my received in box then i get the e-mail disconnecting and saying to me that it's been disconnected due to low disk space.
So i tried changing the location of the folders for the e-mails and then i got a warning about the folders not being correct and had to restore them to the original settings.
I'm sure this is also related but some one tried to send me a small video via blue tooth and it told me that the memory was full but for the life of me i can't seem to change where a blue tooth message would go too.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
i know i may have 2 separate issues here but it's all the same low disk space or out of disk space etc etc
it would seem that it's a problem so how can i go about fixng it, it's poor...
The first offering is Nokia's new 'Messaging' client. If you really, really have been looking forward to this then by all means install it, but beware that it will, between application and messagebase, use up a lot of disk C: on its own. And you can't switch the messagebase to 'mass memory', because that gets locked out when you connect your N97 up to your PC or Mac, switching Nokia Messaging back to C:. As a long time Gmail user, I still find it easier to use either the 'old' S60 Messaging application (in IMAP4 mode) or just use the standalone Gmail (Java-based) application, which has the benefit of speed and of an utterly minimal footprint in daily use.
Also offered via 'Sw update' is Ovi Maps 3.1, which also insists on ensconcing itself on C:. If version 2.0 is working well for you then there really isn't a compelling reason to update, to be honest. Or at least not one that's compelling enough to warrant signing over at least 7MB of C: to it. If version 2 isn't working for you, you still shouldn't install v3.1, as offered, but go for the very latest v3.3, from the Nokia Beta Labs Maps page. It's faster and slicker and at least you'll be getting extra functionality for your lost Megabytes, including less troublesome GPS performance. See below for more on the GPS.
Next is Ovi Contacts, a beta-quality social integration system that's yet to take off in any meaningful way. Again, just avoided unless you really, really want to get involved. You don't need to lose the vital Megabytes.
Then there's the N-Gage games client, another C: biggie, seemingly swallowing up 6MB or so in a real world installation - if, like me, you're rather underwhelmed by N-Gage titles (in fact, underwhelmed by gaming on Symbian in general, but that's another rant for another day), then just say no and, again, give your internal disk a break.
The final optional 'Sw update' was Quickoffice 6, bringing compatibility with Office 2007 documents. This also takes up the best part of 10MB on C:, so unless you get a lot of Docx or Xlsx files by email then I'd strongly suggest holding fire on this update - you'll probably get it anyway in the v20 firmware in a few months time.

Hi, don't know wether you've done this, but go into messaging/options/settings/other/memory in use/set as E:mass memory. If this causes a problem with email, simply delete mailbox and re-install it, it only takes a couple of minutes. One other thing , if you want to save any txt messages, sync with ovi first. Also to get C memory back delete all messages sent , recieved, reports etc before selecting Memory in use as E. Also go to web browser and clear privacy data regularly. One other thing to note is that usually when connected to computer via usb, messaging memory will revert to C, and you won't be able to see any messages , so reset to E again and they are all there. Best taskmanager from Ovi store is also a real help with memory on phone.
Hope this helps, and my appologies for the somewhat eratic layout nof the advice. Should have mentioned clearing messages from C before using E !
Good Luck

How do i get rid of low disk space message ( you are running out of disk space on Hp_Tools (E popup HP tools drive E on pavilion g7-1219wm notebook pc.  It is very annoying.  I am i school and I have noticed it since downloading different assignments from my college black boards.

Thanks Banhien for your quick response.  However my system shows no backup schedule to disable.  I do have a 'Manage Space" link and a Turn on schedule link and change settings link along with Restore options with 3 options-' restore all user files- select another backup to restore files from and recover system settings on your computer.   If I click on 'Manage Space link',  it gives me the option to 'Select how disk space is used by Windows back up'- then there are two options:  'data file backup'-which indicates i can free up space by deleting file backups, and the other option is 'system image' which is greyed out.  Upon clicking on the option (view backups) under 'data file backup option'- it shows the current data file backups on my hp_tools (e the date of the file is displayed and the amount of usage- it gives me the option to delete- should I click the delete button?

    Hi,
    Please try:
Click Start, type "Backup and Restore," and press Enter.  This brings up Windows Backup which is a little different than system protection.
In the middle of the Window you should see that the backup is on a schedule.  Disable this.
    Save your changes.
Delete the backup folder on the E:
Reboot notebook and verify that this resolves the issue.

  • Need help with Low disk space issue and blue screen

Hi Everyone, just seen a message stating a low disk space on my Mac pro bought last November and tried plugging in an external hard drive to remove some pictures to free up some space but it seems that the computer did not have enough space left to start up and run the hard drive. I then tried to restart and ended up with a blue screen and have no knowledge now how to fix this problem. I phoned support but they say I have no technical support left but do have warranty and I would need to either try with the community here or take the unit to an apple store for an appointment. The store is an 1 and 1/2 from me and I really want o see if there is another fix that could allow me to start again then remove some files and then add external drive to remove more. I was blown away at the low amount of storage.....looked for the icloud option last night to upload there as i was told about this by a UK client of mine and now see it is not up and running. Any advice or help by the communtiy would be greatly appreciated as this is my business and travelling laptop. Cheers, Dean <")))><

    Great to hear Dean, thanks!
Further notes: OSX needs about 15% or 10GB Free space minimum, but will run mucch faster/safer with 30-40% or 50GB of Free Space... Free Space is no longer ours to use.
Another tool to help clear up assorted things is Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • Low disk space message due to scratch disk full (c: drive)

My computer improperly shut down while I was editing large files.  I had to alt-ctrl-del to shut down. Upon rebooting I received the message "low disk space" My windows drive now has only 75 MB of free disk space which is critically low. My c drive is a 300 GB drive and used for my programs only.  I am guessing that with the improper shut down the temporary files were left.  Is there a way I can manually clear the temporary files.  When I ran disk clean up in Windows system tools it did not show a large number of files. I cleaned out the files that were there and still my c drive shows the 75 Mb free.
    Thank you. Carolyn

Sure would be nice if Photoshop would clean up it's orphaned temporary files.  As far as I recall it used to do so...  Why was this changed?
At the moment, with CS5, if you have a Photoshop crash you WILL have a multi-gigabyte file left on your hard drive, and subsequent runs of Photoshop will not clean them up.
Found just now in my D:\ folder:  Photoshop Temp144397513436   4.5 GB
Not a big deal if you have 2 TB free, but not everyone does.
Of course, if Photoshop didn't crash in the first place, this would be much less a problem.

  • What to do with low disk space warning?

My Time Capsule is blinking amber because of low disk space. Isn't it supposed to delete the oldest files to make more room? What should I do at this point?

Nothing. That warning is separate from Time Machine.
It's useful if you're using your Time Capsule for other data, but Time Machine will take care of running out of room for backups all by itself.

  • I transfered all my photos to an external hard drive, but I still get the low disk space message when I try to upload more photos. Help please!

I moved all my photos from iphoto to an external hard drive, but I am still getting the "low space message" when I try to upload more photos to iphoto.
How do I free up the disk space in iphoto?
I currently have 642.1 MB of free space, but I thought that once I moved all my photos out of iphoto, that it would free up a bunch of space.
    Help please!

Have you told iPhoto about the new location? If you haven't then iPhoto is ignoring it and continuing to use the original one. If you have completely transferred the library to the external hdd then you can delete the one on your internal one, but make sure that the one on your external drive is complete and has the iPhoto library icon on it. Whatever you do, don't lose your photos!

  • Problem with hard disk space

I don't know what the problem of my macbook pro mid 2010. When I erased a program or files, my hard disk spaces become full but when I installed program or download files my hard disk space diminish. My mac running OS X Maverick 10.9.2.

    Pranyana,
do you regularly make Time Machine backups? If so, then the apparent discrepancy could be explained by the behind-the-scenes creation and deletion of local Time Machine snapshots.

  • Problem with free disk space

Hi. I have a problem on the 256Gb SSD of my MBP retina.
Before deleting a 40Gb video folder i had 80gb free disk space.
After the delete if i check the disk info from the icon on the desktop i have 120gb but checking in the disk utility say i stll have 80gb free. Why?
    Thanks in advance

TM will do that on any laptop if it is not tethered to a Time Machine drive. It then deletes the files (local snapshots) later - see some info here:

  • The problem with scratch disk space.

I have been using Priemere products for over ten years now and have run into a problem recently using Premiere Pro that surprised me.  I was editting a project last week that required me to reuse a lengthy clip several times.  I would set a different in/out point with each use because the clip was not broken up into separate pieces when it was captured.  This is the first time that I have had to do this with such a long clip so I never encountered this problem before.  After saving a considerable amount of different versions of the same clip, I received a notice that the hard drive that I was saving the project in was full.
When I checked the project file I found that with each use of the long clip, Premiere would save the entire clip under the preview files sub-folder.  This meant that in no time at all I had compiled a total of 35 gig of video files from a single 1.2 gig original.  I determined after the fact that I could have redefined a different in/out point on the same original clip without having to reinsert it each time.  This would have resulted in a much smaller preview file size.
I have two questions.  First, is there some way for me to easily back out all of the duplicate clips from the project window of Premiere so that the preview sub-folder size decreases?  Second, will Premiere always duplicate every clip that I select for the timeline in the scratch disk file?  This seems like a tremendous waste of space even though it is suppose to improve realtime preview.  I always thought that the project file just recorded the locations of the clips and when and where to use them.  Maybe I have been wrong all of these years or maybe Adobe Premiere has become more demanding over the years.  Either way, some clarification on these points would be greatly appreciated.

Consider a single clip that may contain 45 minutes of video.  I wanted to use numerous segments from within that large clip in my video.  So, I imported the same clip into the project window of Premiere for each segment that I wan't to use.  Each time I imported the file I would set a different in/out point on it and drag that to my Timeline.  After about the 10th import, Windows informed me that I had exceeded the storage capacity of the hard drive that my scratch disk was on.  I have done numerous videos with both static and video images in the past and have never run into this problem.  That was the nature of my inquiry.

  • Strange Problem with iPod disk space

I have something over 2Gigs of music in my iPod, so that should leave more than a Gig of space, BUT
in iTunes, it says 734 songs, 1.8 days, 2.93 GB
however, in the bar on top of that, it says: Used: 3.68GB, Free: 92.8 MB
My iPod shows up as a hard drive in My Computer, and i looked there, there's Calendars, Contacts, Music, Notes, and WMPInfo
all these folders are small, except Music, which is 744MB
so where is this extra stuff that's apparently on my iPod?

If I restore, doesn't that mean I'll lose all my music from my iPod?

  • Performance with low disk space

    Hi all
I have 3 internal HHD in my G4 AGP. My main bootable HDD(10gb) has 3 gb space left. Should I be concerned of slow performance soon or should I upgrade to 120gb or higher asap?
    Thanks
    Web dude

3GB is plenty of free space for OSX, but the 120GB will give some increased speed, anyway, since it packs a lot more data per track.

  • Low disk space (Boot Camp) - can I repartition my hard drive?

    Hi there -
I am a MacBook user through and through.  However, I partitioned my hard drive 3 years ago using Boot Camp to do some light Windows-only work.  I only partitioned 8 GB to Windows, which wasn't a problem til now.  I'm now trying to use some Windows-only software again, but am faced with a "low disk space" message.  I cleaned up as much as I could with 8 GB, but it's still not enough.  Can I re-partition the hard drive to more like 20 GB without losing any of the data and/or installed software (I don't have access to the install disks...)?  I tried to install WinClone but I have OSX 10.5.8, and it said it only runs on 10.6 or 10.7.  Can anyone offer advice on an option to re-partition with Boot Camp, without losing the installed software and files/data?
I have a MacBook running OS 10.5.8 with 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (I know, it's old!!!)
