Problem with Macintos HD partition.

TL;DR so basically, my problem is that my Macintosh HD partition (OS X) is somehow blocked and I can't format it, I can't boot into it, I can't write files into it and I can't even mount it back. Good thing is atleast I could make a copy of my files to an external drive from a Windows 7 partition I had installed before this problem happened and I can actually boot into this Windows 7 Partition but not the OS X one.
I'll make this as detailed and informative as possible, I'm pretty desperate now and I just want to solve this.
A few weeks ago I got Windows 7 as a partition on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 13" (the last non-retina model), I got the base model, which as a core i5 cpu, 4GB of ram (upgraded to 8GB recently), Intel Graphics 4000 etcetera, model no. is A1278 I believe.
Okay, so the reason I installed Windows 7 in a bootcamp fashion is because I have to run Revit/Lumion and other various software that aren't available on OS X, for I study architecture and I require them, I tried using Parallels but I just did find the bootcamp experience a little more pleasant and natural. Naturally, whenever I wanted to use those programs, I had to restart my notebook and boot into windows, and I didn't find this extenuating or unpleasant, but then, a few days ago, after doing what I wanted to do on the windows partition, I tried to go back to OS X, selecting the option "Restart in OS X" from the Bootcamp Assistant in windows. After that, my sytem restarted and just went normaly into the apple loading screen before OS X boots completely, but, this time, a loading bar appeared under the apple and just started loading for... well, a little more than 10 minutes, then, when it finished, I got a message saying that OS X couldn't be accessed or couldn't load, something like that, and I still get it, so I've been using windows since then, because funny enough, my windows partition DOES work, but my OS X partition doesn't.
So I've read a few threads on different forums and trying everything, but the thing that gave me more info about my problem was when I booted into recovery mode and saw that my Macintosh HD partition was "unmounted", naturally I thought "so THAT was it!!!" and tried to mount it, but it didn't, it told me to verify the drive and try again, so I did, and the Disk Utility in recovery mode found that my drive (only Macintosh HD partition) needed to be repaired, so again I tried to do it and clicked on Repair right there in the Disk Utility, but then again I couldn't repair it and it told me to make a copy of all my files and make a clean install of mavericks again (this happened a few weeks ago when yosemite wasn't out), so I told myself "meh, I can still copy-paste the files from my windows partition into an external drive and just format the Macintosh HD partition and re-install Mavericks. I did that, and then went back to disk utility on recovery mode, and when I tried to re-install mavericks on that drive, when I tried to choose the Macintosh HD partition it told me that "This drive is blocked".
I don't know how in the world could I block my own OS X partition but I hope someone can help me, please, this is driving me crazy. Thanks in advance guys.

First you should try to fix the bad sectors, you can use the following command:
chkdsk c: /f /r

[SOLVED] Dualboot problems with Windows 7 partition

Hello,
after arch is running well I focus on the dual boot to have my arch and the windows 7 available.
The first partition (hd0 1) is the chainboot to Windows 7, the second one is the main partition for windows and the third held the syslinux bootloader.
LABEL windows
MENU LABEL Windows
COM32 chain.c32
APPEND hd0 1
After I uncomment the lines in the syslinux.cfg with the "Windows2-Label, I just tried what happens, because I was expecting everything works well like the other laptop I installed both systems.
The following error message shows up when I select Windows in the boot menu: "Couldn't read first partition sector"
At first I set the MBR back to the W7 chainloader to check if it is broken, but it works, after that I set it back to the syslinux bootloader.
I also tried some workarounds:
- KERNEL instead of COM32
- setting APPEND to disk identifier of the windows chainloader
- try to open the cfdisk, this shows up an error: "cfdisk fatal error bad logical partition 6 enlarged logical partitions overlap"
Confused and unhappy I checked it with gparted and saw there is now error.
#May anybody can hep to handle this problem or has some experience with that type of error. I was searching the web for two days but didn't found anything that helps.

The awnser is just easy as I thought. It is a problem with the extended logical partition, creted by windows partition programm. The partitiontable is somewhat messy. But i can't delete it without loosing much of my stuff and even can't back it up. So i decided to buy a mSATA SSD for the my laptop.
Now it works. :-)

Problem with Rescue & Recovery partition

The hard drive had bad sector on the end of C partition.
So, I bought a new hard drive.
I connecter it as an external drive.
With a utility of copy partition, I copied the partition ServiceV002 from the old disk to the news disk.
I can't copy the partition C: because there are bad sector.
After, I connected the new hard drive into the laptop.
I try to boot and use Recovery System, but It doesn't work.
I have no DVD of backu, So can I do to use the partition ServiceV002 to restor my computer as a new computer

Problems with Dashboard (after partitioning the hard drive?)

I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. Yesterday I partitioned the drive to also run Windows, using Boot Camp. Everything worked fine after I completed Boot Camp.
Now my Dashboard is not working correctly. It opens and closes, and certain widgets work, but others are non-responsive. Some won't even let me close them. I opened the "Manage Widgets" widget, and that is blank and also will not close.
I also installed all new software updates yesterday, but those are the only changes that I have made.
Any ideas?

First, in general, you should only be using the hardware drivers from your model's Toshiba support page. As well, you should not allow Windows Update to change any of your Toshiba supplied hardware drivers.
After doing a clean install, the order that the drivers are installed in is critical for success. This is 1st chipset, 2nd display, then all other drivers. But, on a Toshiba, after installing all the hardware drivers, you are going to have to install some of the Toshiba utilities for it to work properly. Again, the order is critical, this would be 1st TVAP (Toshiba Value Added Package), 2nd Toshiba Flash Card Support Utility, then all other Toshiba Utilities.
However, like everything, there can be other factors and complications. For example, on your system you could have either an nVidia or Realtek sound card. In this case, you can try each driver and see which installs and works.
But, I would strongly recommend that you breakdown and order the set of Toshiba recovery media for your system, which you can do here. You will just need to input the serial number from the Toshiba label on the bottom of your unit. This will rebuild your Toshiba HDD recovery partition, reinstall Windows 7 with an imbedded product key, and install all the drivers, utilities and software your system came with, as listed in your specifications.

Problem with BSO - ASO partitions (Essbase 9.3.1)

Is it possible to create a BSO partition on top of four ASO cubes when using member set functions in the partition definition (e.g. @GENMBRS or @LEVMBRS)?
I have tried that but always get an “overlapping partitions” error, although the partition members are not defined overlapped. The cellcount does match.

Obviously this won't resolve your entire problem, but just to answer the first question you can definitely use e.g. @GENMBRS successfully in the partition definitions for a single BSO cube over multiple ASO cubes in 9.3.1.

Problems with Disk Utility - Partition of my HD cannot be repaired.

I have an issue with using the disk utility on my Mac OS X 10.4.1

Ya, but you are talking about some systems files, I think.
Actually I am talking about any file. I'd hate to discover too late that that I'd copied over a corrupt data file, erased my drive, and had ruined my chances of perhaps repairing it and getting a good copy.
If he/she can backup needed files, reformat, install new system, update, and then copy needed files back. This to me, takes less time, and you got a nice clean new system.
Yes, you have a new system, but if DW works it will take a lot less time than what you're talking about doing, especially since you have to be at the computer doing it all! Install new system, then all the updates, then all the software again, with all their updates, then put all the preference files, etc. back?
I have DW, and I bought it in hopes to recover one file, waste of money, think its version 4 dot something

The Windows side has a red-only HFS+ driver. You cannot delete files on the OS X side, when booted in Windows.
First suggestion would be to empty trash when booted in OS X.
You can use OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support as a worst-case scenario, if necessary.

Partition problem with Win 7 and Lion

I have a 2011 Mac Mini with two hard drives - the original 500GB drive and a SSD.   The SSD is laid out as follows:

2) Original Lion install 40G HFS+
3) Original recovery partition 650M
4) Space set aside for OSX HFS+ 160G (has some big files in it)
5) Space set aside for Windows NTFS 300G (no files in it yet)
I think there is a problem with MBR vs GPT and Disk Utility vs Disk Management.

Windows Disk Management is happy to see inside the HFS partitions, so I know all my files are at least still there. I had a 5th NTFS partition formatted, but upon going into Lion and back, it disappeared.
I think ideally what I would like to have is a spare Lion + recovery partition on this drive in case my SSD barfs, then a big NTFS partition to hold my Windows files. I guess merging the 40G OSX and 160G HFS+ partitions will be ok. Could the problem be related to MBR having a limit of 4 partitions? There isn't any data on this drive that isn't backed up, but I would rather do this partition fixing shuffle without having to restore big files. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I managed to fix the problem. First I used Disk Utility to delete the NTFS partition. It hung during the process, so I quit it, and the partition was deleted anyway. Next, I used gdisk to change the partition type from 0700 to AF00 and AB00 for the Lion and Recovery partitions respectively. It worked and I can access the partitions under OSX again. Thanks, everybody, you've been super helpful.

Problem with the EFI system partition's file system.

I installed latest yosemite 10.10.2 update - did a verify disk on “WDC WD1001FALS-403AA0 Media” (internal HD on my iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011) and got
Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting
Error: The partition map needs to be repaired because there’s a problem with the EFI system partition’s file system.
However a verify disk on the volume partition gets a clean bill of health!
I haven't done a 'repair disk' yet. Thought I'd check if anybody else has same message first.

I had issues where my MacPro 8-core would not boot after the 10.7.4 upgrade, but my MacBook Air 13" 2011 upgrade worked just fine.
I had to restore my MacPro HD from my TimeMachine back up. Apparently, the Softraid raid drivers that I use on my MacPro are not compatible yet with 10.7.4. See here for more info:

MacBook Pro OS x Mavericks. I have Sandisk 256GB SSD and I am getting a below error message.

Does anyone know how to resolve this error and fix it ? unfortunately I don't have a Time Machine backup. Thanks!

Have you tried to run the verify/repair permissions and verify/repair disk through the recovery disk? If that didn't work then I would reinstall the OS after backing up. If that still doesn't work I would take it in.

Weird problems with recovery partition

Hi. I just got a new X1 Carbon a few days ago. When trying to install Ubuntu, I messed up the bootmgr. At that point I still had the option F11 for recovery on startup, but choosing it did not give any results and after a restart, the option was gone. When researching the problem, I found this thread:

Since my recovery partition Q was untouched, the steps described in the thread allowed me to restore partitions S and C. So far so good, but now the problems start.
First, the letters of the partitions get messed up after every reboot. I assign Windows7_OS the letter C, SYSTEM_DRV gets S, and Lenovo_Recovery gets Q. Diskpart then lists the drives with correct letters. But after a reboot, they're back to D,C,E, respectively.
Then, when I boot the Windows recovery disk from a usb stick, it correctly recognizes that Windows is installed on drive D. It suggests that there are startup problems, which I tell it to fix. After the next reboot, it does not warn me about startup problems. When I then go to command prompt and enter
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
then the Windows recovery disk commits suicide. It seems to attempt to fix its own bootmgr. At the moment, both usb stick and hard disk run with grub (Windows recovery on a multiboot installed by YUMI). After I run the commands above, the hard disk still runs with grub, but the usb stick now has bootmgr and fails to boot. I have tried this several times, each time recreating the Windows recovery disk with YUMI, and every time the same result.
F11 option is of course still gone. At this point I'm out of my wits. Any suggestions are welcome.

In the end I formatted and made a clean install. F11 Option is gone. Recovery partition is still untouched, but I don't think it will be used again. Followed this advice to install a fresh Windows 7 using a usb stick:

Since I did not have access to Windows with administrator rights, I had to use Ubuntu to create the bootable Windows stick:

The WiFi driver was not included in Windows, so I had to download that in another system, and install manually. From there I could then go online in Windows to download the remaining drivers from Lenovo (after the clean install there's a long list of unrecognized devices).
Since the laptop comes with 4 primary partitions preinstalled I had to merge the SYSTEM_DRV and the Windows7_OS partition in order to create an additional partition for Ubuntu. Then I installed Ubuntu and took control of the startup behavior using EasyBCD.

Problem with partition

I bought my MBP s/h and it had Bootcamp/XP installed on the partition (size 13Gb). I had big problems with XP and decided to reinstall, but as I had no orig XP disc, I had to use a frien's XP Home version. I didn't delete the orig XP first, just installed the XP Home editon. I now have two problems -
1) I'm v. short of space on that partition.
Looking at that volume I can see programs relating to the previous owner e.g. BJ Printer folder etc.
2) When I shut down the XP Home and try and Restart, it just hangs...
Please suggest a plan of action...Thanks.

Is your friend's XP Home Edition installation CD a SP2 version? XPSP2 on a single disk? This is a must to be able to install it on a boot camp partition. Furthermore, it cannot be an upgrade version. It has to be a full version. Not sure what you meant by stating that you did not delete the original XP first. Please clarify.
Given the information that you have provided, my recommendation is that you run boot camp again and delete the boot camp/windows partition completely and combine it into one with the osx partition. Boot Camp will allow you to do this.
Run Boot Camp again (After thoroughly reading the instructions) and allow it to repartition the drive to the size(s) that you desire. Once that is done then you will need a FULL Version of XPSP2 (on a single disk) or any FULL version of Vista to install on the newly created boot camp partition.

Cannot format my iMac. Problem with partition's file

I cannot format my iMac because Disk Utility sends an error: The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition's file system. Any suggestions?

The problem began when the Time machine excluded my home folder of the backup. I could not include it again in the process (not in system preferences, nor anything else), so I decided to format the HD and make a fresh install of OSX Mavericks. I could not do this because Disk Utility cannot unmount the partition when formatting the HD, and the error arose. I simply cannot fix this, and before giving up and take it to a Mac repair shop, I would like to try by myself.
