Problem with Mail app for Gmail account!

Hi all,
I have a Gmail account synced to my Mail app, I have the latest software version: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.
The problem started couple of weeks ago, when a new folder under the name "Archive" showed up in the left bar of my Mail app. Thereafter, coming messages started to go there instead of coming to my "inbox" folder. This created quite few issues with new coming messages. Can anyone know how to solve that?
Thank you in advance.
p.s. I tried to uncheck the box " Gmail.com > settings > Labels > All mail - show in IMAP", this has solved the "archive" issue, as it has disappeared from my Mail right bar. But This has created further issues with coming messages, as I stopped receiving messages at all to my Mail.

  • HT1338 problem with Mail app and Gmail

In various occasions the Mail App freezes and the only way to close it is to go to the activity monitor en force quit the program cause it makes the CPU work at 100% without any results. Aditionally I setup my Gmail account in the Mail program according to the instructions and when I delete messages from the all mail folder after a while the appear again after a while.
    Any solutions to my problems?
    Thank you very much

  • Confusion with mail.app and Gmail using imap

I've had a yahoo.com email address for years, and pay for Mail Plus and POP3, which I frankly don't even use. Now that I've confirmed, however, that I can successfully forward emails from my yahoo box to my new gmail box, I'd like to look into setting up mail.app for the gmail account using imap. Like most people, I access my mail from several places (home & work computers, Touch, and others), and imap makes sense as the right way to go.
Last night I tried to set things up on mail.app on the Mac, and boy was it confusing in terms of the folders, etc. Is there someplace someone can point me for a sort of "beginner's guide to setting up Gmail/imap with mail.app"? Hopefully this "guide" would give me some hints on setting up various rules, etc. that would allow me to have a setup that makes sense: only one copy of emails, sent items in the sent items folder, etc.
One more thing: can I set up Gmail/imap with more than one email client? For example, can I use mail.app at home and Thunderbird on the Windows computer in my office? And how is the creation of new folders (or labels, I guess, as Gmail calls them) on the web handled by mail.app (or Thunderbird)? I'm guessing that a new label created on Gmail on the web doesn't automatically result in a folder being created in mail.app (or Thunderbird), or does it? If this is correct (no folder created in mail.app until I create it on the Mac), is the message that was moved to a folder on the web found in mail.app in the All Messages folder (or whatever it's called)?
Sorry for the basic nature of these questions...this all seems pretty complicated, and I'd like to get it right the first time. Thanks.

BTW Thanks for the "head's up" that GMail now supports IMAP (I've been waiting for it!)
I'm not sure what your confusion is, other than maybe the confusion between how folders and messages work in Outlook versus Apple Mail and IMAP. I've used both, and several other mail programs over the years.
IMAP permits you to have directories which contain message folders. I make the distinction, because Outlook allows you to message folders which contain messages AND other message folders. I believe most implementations of IMAP do not allow messages inside of directories. Thus, a directory looks like a message folder, but it may only contain message folders, and not individual messages.
Now, GMail appears to create message folders for each label you define in GMail, and messages which have several labels appear in each folder. If you copy the folders to your computer, you WILL have multiple copies of those messages, however if you leave them on the server, GMAIL does all the work and you only have one copy of each message.
Special folders in GMail are all located in the directory [Gmail] and include the message folders "All Mail", "Drafts", "Sent Mail", "Spam", "Starred" and "Trash". Notice I say "directory" and not "message folder" for "[Gmail]". That is important.
I cannot attest as to what GMail does when you create a folder from your mail.app client, as I have not done that yet. I would venture a guess that it will define a GMail label and mark any messages you "move" to that folder with that label. The GMail special folder "All Mail" contains all of your mail messages, and is equivalent to selecting "All Mail" when using the web interface.
Your inbox messages will appear in the section with all of your inboxes at the top of your mailbox list. Make sure that you set your preferences to match the recommended preferences for Apple Mail when setting up your GMail account. Otherwise you will end up with duplicates and/or a lot of unnecessary data transfers to your Mac.
Hope this helps. If not, please give a more explicit example of something that doesn't work the way you expect.

  • Iphone 4 battery sometimes drains fast -- problem with Mail app?

My iphone 4 battery often drains too quickly, and I wonder if it has something to do with my Mail App.
When my phone is not playing nice, it drains at least 20% overnight while on Standby, and from 100% to 30% in around 6 hours when I use it during the day. I found a fix (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11775150) that basically says to wipe your mail account and set it up again.
This fix works, but only temporarily for me. I find that I have to keep resetting my mail every few days to get back to "normal battery" where it barely drains overnight. I only use one email account (gmail) -- could there be something going on there?
Oh, and when my battery drains fast, nothing changes when I turn off WiFi, notifications, push, etc. I usually have my mail refresh hourly.
    Has anyone had this experience?

  • Weird problem with mail.app

When I email myself from Road Runner's server the email shows up on mail.app from my email address from road runner (that's okay) and my work email address, which is an entirely different server. I deleted the mail plist file, but that didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

Not sure what the problem is based on the description provided.
The email address that appears as the sending email address for an account has nothing to do with the SMTP server used to send messages with the account.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences, the email address entered in the Email Address field is the email address that appears as the sending email address for the account regardless which SMTP server is used to send messages with the account.
More info please on what you are trying to resolve.

  • Problems with server settings for IMAP account

    hi
i am trying to configure Mail to work with an IMAP account. i can receive messages OK on this account, but cannot send mail. when i try to send mail i get an error message "sender verify failed".
there was an automated process for adding the account to mail which i installed, and got the following settings:
    outgoing mail server: mail.soterianetwork.org
    server port: 26
    authentication: password
    username: soteria
password: ****** (the password is correct)
the error message i get is 'sender verify failed'.
i have also tried ports 25 and 587 without success.
on the web based control panel for the mail account it says: Be sure to enable SMTP Authentication in your E-mail client or you may not be able to send mail.
not sure if i have done this. i have tried changing the outgoing mail server to smtp.soterianetwork.org, still without success
i would be grateful for some help to get this set up correctly
    thanks

  • Problems with mail app

I have a recurring problem with the mail app on my ipod touch 4th generation.  I frequently get the message "cannot get mail.  Connection to server failed", or "cannot find server".  I also often have problems connecting to the app store and itunes, with the message "cannot connect to apple store".  I have no other wi-fi issues.  I can get on safari, facebook, or my other apps just fine.  Do I need to reconfigure my wi-fi settings somehow? I don't know the first thing about it.

  • Problem with mail app on Mountain Lion?

I need help to fix my native mail app, that stoped working. It's blocked. I'm using Mountain Lion OS. My accounts work fine in the Iphone and Ipad.

hello there, I am jumping in the conversation because I am in the same situation. Up to yesterday evening my mac was working fine, but since this morning, Mail creates a general crash of the system. When I open Maill I have the wheel working for ever, and force quit doesn't help. My solution so far has been to shut down (holding the power button down). I rebooted using the safe boot mode, installed the last update for mountain lion, restart and boom, mail crashed again.
also finder window doesn't come up front.
    any help welcome.

  • Use mail app for POP account only?

This may be a stupid question, but my .mac trial has recently expired, and I do not wish to pay for an entire .mac account because I only enjoy using the e-mail portion of it. I have set up my gmail account so that the e-mail gets forwarded to my mail, but is there any way to send e-mails from my mail application using my POP account now that my .mac is expired?

I'm not sure I understand you rquestions - It sounds like you want to discontinue your .Mac account but continue to use your .Mac email - I do not believe that that is an option
If you are switching to gmail (or for that matter adding gmail) you can set up Apple Mail to handle your gmail account either as a POP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275&topic=12810 ) or an IMAP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379&topic=1281 ) - gmail help has instructions for this set up and many others as well - a great place to look

  • I have a problem with mail app

I just can't open the mail app. Always appear an error message.

No. Tried all that. Server finally says they don't understand what's happening so better if I just delete accounts and set them up again from scratch. Haven't done that yet in hopes someone in the Apple world will have found a solution.

  • Mail.app and gMail account

    Hi,
why when I am using gMail account via IMAP I have still unread email counter full under the GMAIL folder even I have read all messages in my Inbox?
    Krzysztof M.

Maybe there are messages in folders other than Inbox? To get all unread messages, create a Smart Mailbox (see Mailbox menu) and select as criterion "Message is unread" (or something like that).

  • Is it possible to make the delete button work properly with google apps hosted gmail accounts?

The subject says it all.  This has been ungoing problem for YEARS.  Has anyone come up with a fix or work around?  It is ridiculously annoying to have to come home and delete 100 messages I already saw over the course of the day and know are worthless...

Unfortunately I do not have that option.
That screen gives me the following:
    Account
    Mail on/off
    COntacts on/off
    Calendars on/off
    Mail days ot sync
    Mail folders to push
    Delete account
    That is all I have.
If I go into account form there I have:
    Email:
    Server:
    Domain:
    Username:
    Password:
    Description
    Use SSL on/off
    That is all I have.

  • Sent messages in Mail.app for IMAP accounts

I just converted my email POP accounts to IMAP.  With POP, everything is stored on your computer, right?  With IMAP, all the sent messages are stored on the server, and stay there forever if you specify it.  But are the sent messages also stored on the computer in the user library?  I am using Yosemite OS.

But are the sent messages also stored on the computer
Yes. The copies on your computer will be synched to match the copies on the server. If you disconnect your Mac from the Internet, you will still be able to view the mail prior to the disconnection. It's one of the main advantages that IMAP has over POP.
Note that there are behavior options for the Sent mail folder that change the retention levels:

  • Problem with Mail app

So, I'm trying to use my Mail application and I don't think I've ever used it before but when I click on the application, I get an error message saying "You have Mail version 4.5. It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 What do I do?!

I had a similiar issue with my old powerbook, I cannot remember exactly what I did to fix it, but I do know I probably followed these steps.
    1. Make sure your accounts are set up to download the attachment immediately, if so Close Mail.
2.Open Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility) and repair Disk Permissions. Open Mail and see if working. If not close Mail again.
    3. Back up all of your Mail, easiest way is to drag the [user]>Library>Mail folder onto your desktop (or external), backing this up will provide you an ability to revert if anything strange happens in this next step. (Backing up from this process can be found numerous places on the discussions, Ill save it unless something does go wrong).
    4. Open Mail, click on the mailbox that had an attachment in it and then under "Mailbox" on the top menu bar select "Rebuild Mailbox." This should take some time, and if for some reason when it finishes all your messages are not in the inbox than you can revert to your backed up files.
    5. As a final option, get your Tiger disks and install OSX 10.4, selecting to archive and install. This will keep all you user info, settings, and documents, but will install a new version of the system folder and with it Mail.app

You didn't really use the Helvetica font, because that font has no Korean characters.  You just sent Korean text in an encoding which the recipient did not understand.  Use the Message > Text Encoding menu before sending to try a few different encodings, like UTF-8, Korean EUC, and Korean Windows, to see which one works best for that receiver.
