Problem with Mail & Google Apps email account

I have three personal Gmail accounts, and a Google Apps email account provided by the Open University. I've set these four accounts up in Mail to use IMAP.
My three personal accounts work as expected, no problems there. Apparently – I'm still waiting for confirmation of this from the OU – it's only possible to send email from the Google Apps account if I use the web interface, not Mail or any other email client. This account is only accessible from my student home page which has its own login with unique user name and password; trying to log in with the same details via the usual Gmail login dialog doesn't work. However, before I learned this I tested the setup by sending email, with Mail, from my Google Apps account to each of my personal accounts, and all three emails seemed to arrive correctly.
On seeing my name as the sender I assumed everything was o.k. and didn't check to see which actual address showed as the sender. A few days later on finding problems and repeating the test I was surprised to find that the mails had been sent from the first personal Gmail account I set up in Mail, not from the account I had specified. This is a massive security breach that gives scope for abuse and fraud, but is it by Mail or Google? If I can't send from the account I was trying to use I should receive an error message to tell me of a problem, not be deceived silently into thinking that everything was working properly when it wasn't.
Has anyone experienced this, with Mail or another email client and Google Apps or another service? I'd really appreciate any comments and views about this behaviour because it worries me.
TIA.

Update:
I've established for certain that Google only provide a web interface for Google Apps products, it says so in the first paragraph of the Google Apps SLA. Trying to set up sending from a Google Apps account with an email client will only get you the hassle, waste of time and headache that I've had. Google don't say this anywhere that I've found in Gmail help or the marketing stuff about Google Apps; it's up to the buyer of the service either read the SLA for themselves, or for an organisation buying it for their people to tell them clearly that they have to use the web interface, there's no other option. I've read some other posts here on this subject, those people have been just as frustrated and annoyed as I have.
How I deal with Google – I assume it's the provider and not the software – diverting my emails, is another question. My email provider diverts its customers' emails without telling the customer. The potential for fraud and abuse is obvious but what can be done about it? Can anything be done about it? Apart from anything else, I want the service. It's free at point of use, but it's not free really, nothing ever is, but if I paid for it could I be sure this wouldn't or couldn't happen. Welcome to the 21st century. I've taken it up with the Open University as the provider of my Google Apps account; I'm going to write to my MP (I'm in UK) or an appropriate regulatory body if there is one, and see where it might go from there.

  • After installing Mavericks on my iMac, Apple Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  Now Mail crashes every time I open it.  What's up?

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail.  Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I don't have any problem with my Google Apps email account, so far. Use complete email address as your user-name like [email protected]
See if it works, and reply.

Can Apple provide (or have they already) specific instructions for setting up the Mail client with Gmail/Google Apps email accounts?  I've read other threads with various workarounds that work for some but not others.  I am hoping there is a standard set of instructions directly from Apple on this.

  • Can I set my iCloud email as the outgoing mail server for my google apps email account in Mac Mail?

I have a google apps email account from an old client, all my work emails have been going to it for years. As I'm no longer affiliated with this client I'd like to make a transition to using my iCloud account for work. I asked people to use my iCloud address but as they've been using my google apps address for years it's what automatically comes up when they type my name.
I figure the easiest way to make a transition is if I reply to all the emails that arrive at my old address from my iCloud address and gradually they will start using my new address without realising it. But I can't find a simple way to do this.
In Mac Mail preferences > accounts > Google IMAP (my old account name) > Account information > Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) I'd like to set my iCloud SMTP server. But although my iCloud account uses its own outgoing mail server for its own account , it is not in the server list when I select my google account. I've tried to add it to the server list as smtp.mail.me.com but it caused my whole iCloud account to give me error messages until I force quit Mail...
    Any ideas?

In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

    Leisa Borges

    Lisa,
How are you setting up your email account? Are you using your carrier's BIS website or do you mean with the Gmail application for Blackberry? What phone model do you have 83XX and what OS are you running on your phone (go to Options>About) -- 4.X.X.XXX?
Provide a little more info on what exactly you did and I'm sure somebody on these forums will be able to help you out

  • I have a problem with mail autofilling info email addresses. Emails sent to me the from looks like this: Holiday in the United States email address . I have no idea what this Holiday in the United States is...How can I fix/change to my name?

I have an irritating problem with mail autofilling info in email addresses. Emails sent to me the from looks like this: Holiday in the United States <my email address>. I have no idea what this Holiday in the United States is or how it got to be there...How can I fix/change to my name?
I fixed the To: autofilling incorrectly by deleting my email address from the Previous Recipients List, but is there a way to stop that from coming up on emails that I receive?

Have you checked your Mac address book? If your email is saved somewhere in your address book with the name "Holidays in the United States" it might be adding the name automatically in Mac Mail.
    Alternatively, try this:
Delete an Email Address from Auto-Complete in Mac OS X Mail
To remove an email address from the auto-complete list in Mac OS X Mail:
Start typing the recipient's address or name in a new message.
Select the desired address from the auto-complete list as if you'd compose an email to them.
Click the small down arrow in the recipient.
Select Remove from Previous Recipients List from the menu.
You can also search for the unwanted address directly in the previous recipients list:
Select Window | Previous Recipients from the menu in Mac OS X Mail.
Highlight the address you want to remove. You can highlight multiple addresses by holding down the Command key.
    Click Remove from List.

  • Remove a Corporate Google Apps email account that I no longer has access to

    Hi,
I've previously setup a company Google apps account in the mail app. I've left the company and the IT admin reset the password. Now I can't remove the account from the mail app and it's asking me to log in before I can change anything.. Is there anyway
to remove the account without logging in?
    Thanks

Gee, did you actually read the question?  This "answer" has nothing to do with the question.
There is a BUG in the Win8 Mail app pertaining to Gmail accounts that no longer exist.
In the Win8 Mail app, if you go to the Accounts section in Settings you should be able to access settings for any listed account and then select "Remove Account".
The bug is that the Mail app is making a bad assumption.  It ASSUMES the Gmail account exists and tries to, FIRST, connect to the Gmail service.  Mail is forcing the user to update
the Gmail account password FIRST, before allowing access to settings for that account in the Mail app.  If the Gmail account has been deleted, this is impossible.
Some moron suggested deleting the Mail app and reinstalling.  That's not a solution.  You would have to delete the user account and recreate it for this to work.  BAD idea, and
unfeasible for 80% of users who don't even understand how to make that work.

  • Problems with .mac and .me email accounts after iCloud

For over a month I have been locked out of my .mac and .me email accounts on password issues involving iCloud.
I must have changed (duly confirmed as valid by Apple) a dozen times my iCloud account password and duly updated it to the preferences of mail.
Still, when I try opening the mail I am prompted to enter the password, which every time fails. Every time I follow the link to replace the pw, I do so, I get the OK from Apple and back to square one ....
I tried talking to support, but after 40 minutes of waiting I was given an ineffectual tip that did not work. No intention of calling again.
Can anyone please put an end to my suffering?
(Yes, I can type. Yes, I have been using Apple computers since 1984. Yes, I regularly enter countless password protected sites, no problem)
    Thanks a lot,
    Luigi

I understand that they're the same thing but they don't seem to be working like that at the moment... and this has been the case ever since transferring to iCloud.
The problem I'm having is that if anyone emails my .mac address it returns to sender undeliverable, while the .me address works fine. Similarly, if I try to send an email using .mac it won't send it, but it will using .me. Most of my contacts have the .mac address so I'm not getting any emails.
If anyone has any advice I'd be most grateful.

  • Problems with mail account being frozen

I have a problem with my Director's email account in that it beach balls whenever we open it on her computer. This problem seemed to start when we changed broadband suppliers. We had to change the relay address for our accounts to be able to send mail. This we did and ours work fine. My Director's however went into a complete tailspin and won't even let us open preferences so that we can check the address settings. We have paid for an expert to come and have a look for an hour but he seemed completely baffled. Her email is also set up on a colleagues computer from which it works fine. Can anyone please suggest what we should be doing?? We are desperate!
    Many thanks,
    Laryssan

If not a .Mac account, I don't believe everyone else
who uses the Mail.app is experiencing the same. I for
    one am not.
Just chiming in; I don't have a .Mac account, and have been suddenly experiencing odd behavior from Mail.app. Today I had the problem where the app "forgot" all my account passwords and kept throwing up the entry box over and over. Finally had to delete my Keychain files and start over--tried it three times--before things calmed down... and one of my email accounts never did go back to normal.
Why would this suddenly happen, especially if I've never used .Mac? My incoming mail comes through the server my personal website is hosted on, my outgoing mail goes via Comcast... and I've never had any trouble with Mail.app before today.
    Weeeeird. Coincidence?

  • Unable to set up Google Apps email

    Hi
I am trying to set up my Google Apps email account in Apple Mail. (ML 10.8.5)
    It is an exchange account.
When enter account in Apple Mail, it creates the exchange account automatically.  However i think the incoming server is incorrect as it is not d/l emails from gmail.
I have seen notes where they say to enable IMAP on the account.  But my gmail account is set up as exchange.  Will this interfere with my exchange/push fucntionality on my ios device if I enable IMAP?
Do I have to enable IMAP at all?
    I am confused.
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

  • Google Apps Email Invalid, Won't Validate

About three days ago, my BlackBerry popped up with a message saying I needed to revalidate my Google Apps email account and make sure that IMAP is enabled. Seeing as how I've had IMAP enabled for the past three years so that my BlackBerry can get the emails, I was confused but I entered in my password anyway. It keeps popping up that my account is invalid and that I need to re-enter my password again. I've sent service books, deleted the account, re-added it and then re-registered my device with the network. I've also disabled IMAP and POP in GApps Mail and re-enabled it and it still works. All my regular @gmail.com accounts work perfectly. Seeing as how this has been going on for several days, it's getting on my nerves and the Gmail app not working with 5.0.0.732 on my Tour doesn't help either (Google knows and they're working on a new version).
Anybody know what's going on that would cause this?

I actually figured out that it was a setting in Google Apps that wasn't enabled. The "All Mail" IMAP folder wasn't enabled.

  • Serious problem with mail beware

I was using Apple's mail program for 3 years for my website. I was told by a few customers that they had not gotten my emails.
mail was indicating that emails were sent, but they were arbitrarily not being delivered and I wasn't getting any failure notices.
Checked with Verizon, my FIOS internet provider...no problem.
Called Yahoo, where my website is hosted and no problem there. Tried calling Yahoo again and a tech mentioned that He had heard of problems with Mac mail related to a recent update.
So I downloaded Thunderbird, set it up and problem has vanished.
I don't know how much business I lost due Apple screwing things up.
I'll never use Apple's mail program again. If you are using it. watch out. You could be losing emails and not have a clue that it's happening

Describe how Apple has anything to do with your problem. You're ranting and randomly blaming them for a problem, without a shred of evidence. Mail send mail perfectly fine, whether or not it gets delivered is out of your control once that's done, and Apple isn't involved.
And what about this recent update to Mail that Yahoo! (and you) are blaming for this problem? If you had a clue, you'd know there has been no update to Mail for several years. As if that wasn't enough evidence of their not being a problem with Mail, how do you account for the millions of users who have no such problems? Luck? No, it's because there is no problem with Mail.
Before you start randomly blaming parties for things that haven't happened or aren't in control of the supposed issue, know what you're talking about. It's obvious you haven't a clue about this.
