Problem with 'maximum achievable speed'

Hello,
I'm hoping you'll be able to offer me so helpful advice.
I'm an Orange home broadband customer, which I believe is provided through yourselves. When I signed up to Orange they stated I could expect speeds of up to 20mb. I live as close to the exchange as you could get really. On my online account it states - "The speed estimate at registration or the speed we have measured on your line is 14.0Mb"
For the first couple of months I was regularly getting speeds of 8-10mb. To be honest I'm perfectly happy with anything over 2mb.
However, recently my speeds have been always on the 1mb mark, causing buffering for iPlayer, youtube etc. Having run the BT Speedtester, I find that my maximum achievable speed seems to have been capped at 1mb. What would be the reason for this? I've read my terms and conditions and have not exceeded any bandwidth levels, I don't even download songs, let alone movies.
How do I go about getting this 'maximum achievable speed' back to how it used to be?
Thanks!
Download  Speed
927 Kbps
0 Kbps
1000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 927 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-1000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :1148 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1160 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1012 Kbps

  • Whats the maximum achievable speed of data transfer from RT to host PC

    Hi
Anybody can tell me whats the maximum achievable speed of data transfer from RT to host PC, in case of both PXI and CompacRIO.
    Regards
    Visuman

    Hi visuman,
To be honest, the dataspeed is dependent on how you architect the code, and the data communication channels that you use.
There are many factors that influence the maximum transfer rate, including network topology, types of interface used, OS, ambient network traffic etc.
You can control two things, packet size, and amount of sleep time between transmissions.
By altering the delay between consecutive TCP/IP transmissions and by varying the packet sizes sent from the embedded side to the host side, you can obtain a clear picture of network characteristics between the two devices. The end result is a report of the optimal TCP/IP configuration, that is packet size and sleep time.

  • MSI CD53, i5 750 - Problem with CPU Fan Speed

    Hello
I have problem with this counfiguration: i5 750, MSI CD53 Motherboard.
I Have processor overheating poblem. I noticed that processor easly can go up to 90C.
I check phisycal installation, and all its ok.
After that i check RPM of CPU FAN and i noticed that it cant go over 1000 RPM, so propably this is problem.
In MSI Control Center maximum i can set 1000 RPM.
I read that CPU FAN can go up to 3000 RPM.
Maybe i have something wrong set up in bios? What can i do with this?

Which board exactly do you have?
What is your current BIOS Version?
What kind of CPU-Fan are you using (3-Pin or 4-pin PWM (four wires) and which connector is it attached to?
What are your current fan speed/control settings in BIOS Setup?

I check phisycal installation, and all its ok.
Physical installation is one thing, but what about thermal paste (have you used a PROPER amount (too much thermal paste has the opposite effect))?
    What about your case ventilation?

  • Strange problem with broadband. Speed very low.

    Hi all,
From last Friday I encountered really big problems with my broadband as the speed go dramatically down. I don't know what may be the reason, I'm using HomeHub and between it and computers in my household everything is fine. I haven't heard about any fixes round Aberdeen so have completely no clue what is going on.
Do you have any clue what can cause the problem, for more than 3 years everything was just great. Maybe my HomeHub is old and faulty, it is the 1st gen, white one.
I post speedtest results and ADSL info:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 134 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 4000-21000 Kbps.

    Update.
First, do you always get reply from MODS? Today my connection dropped and after a while it was on again, I found my SN Margin reset to 6.5 and better bandwith 1205 / 19832 but the speed didn't improve at all. It is 24h since I've sent notice to MODS and I will wait another 24h before contacting them again. What really worries me is FEC Errors field in my ADSL Line details. Last time after 4 days it was 245'000, now after 6 hours I have more than 750'000. Is that normal after connection drop? I've checked speed using this speedcheck provided and my profile is still the same, 16000kbs

  • Problem with the wireless speed on windows with bootcamp

I've got a problem with the following:
the wireless card of my mac pro is very slow when i run windows on my mac pro with bootcamp
When i just run OSX everything works fine, but in windows, when I connect to the wireless my wireless speed
    drops to 11-18mbs.
First I thought that it was a drivers issue, but after the update of bootcamp drivers 1.4 the problem still exist.
First I had a Topcom wireless router now I've bought a Apple Airport Extreme, but the problem isn't solved yet...
The router isn't 2 meters away from my mac.
And the wireless speed is fine when i connect with my dads windows laptop...
Does anyone has a solution? using a cable isnt a solution for me because in September I will move with my mac pro one floor down.

You might want to ask this in the Boot Camp forums. As your wireless work fine under Mac OS X it sounds to be a software issue as opposed to a hardware one which means as Windows users they'll better be able to help.

  • Is there a problem with maximum RAM size for Satellite 320CDT?

I have a Satellite 320CDT with the latest BIOS (v8.00) and Windows 98 SE installed; there is 32MB base memory and a 32MB module in the single expansion slot. If I change this for a 64MB expansion module I can still only see 64MB total memory reported, not 96MB as expected; the spec for the machine states that the maximum allowable memory is 160MB (32MB base + 128MB expansion). Does anybody know if there is a problem with the maximum memory size for this model and whether there is a solution or workaround? I need to know quickly, in order to decide if I need to return the memory module to the supplier! Many thanks for any help, Peter

Are you certain you tried the correct type of memory module? It sounds like you're maybe trying to fit an incompatible type.

  • Problems with connection/download speeds

Since Friday evening we have been experiencing problems with our broadband connection.  It's been disconnecting and when it is connected it is at a wide variety of speeds.
We found that we had noise on lifting the telephone receiver which was confirmed by doing the quiet line test.  Tried connecting again by just using a filter into the test socket and directly into the hub but again we are finding the same issues with the broadband connection.
Thinking it might be a problem with our old hub we got the most recent model and have today tried connecting to broadband.  As we were still getting the same problems (using our normal connection setup) we once again tried connecting straight into the test socket but still the problems remain.

    Hi welcome to the forum
As you have noise on the phone line that needs to be resolved first you need to phone BT Faults on 151 and report a noisy line but do not mention broadband once the noise is fixed your broadband will improve

  • Is my laptop the problem with slow usb3 speeds?

I'm sporting a dv6-7200ea system, as standard, and have bought a toshba stor.e Basics 2tb USB 3.0 portable hard drive.
Toshiba state that it is capable of 5gbit speeds whereas the maximum i can attain is 100mb (1gbit?).
I have asked toshiba directly and they say the problem lies within my laptop, not their hardware.
Is this true? If so, what causes it??

Unfortunately, Your notebook model does not have the extra space for a second SATA hard disk. I checked in the Maintenence & Service guide for your notebook series to see if if did. Models like the Envy17-3002ea, which I am currently using as a loaner, are optionally equiped with a pair or 750 GB hard disks.
    Best regards,

What is going on with my BT Broadband speed...?

    This just can't be right...?

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • 2 problems with EA6300 both speed issue's

I got my EA6300 for a while now, overall for what it is used its doing ok.
Though recently i had to add a tv box to my network.
Connecting it to the router would not work, since it did not get a IP.
So i was forced to put a switch before the router.
So the network cable with the internet signal on it is first connected to the switch to which the tv box is also connected.
Then a cable supplying internet goes to the router, and another cable which is connected to my desktop pc.
Both router and switch are all gigabit ports, so that is one thing to rule out.
The PC is connected to the switch because if i connect it to the router then speed seems to be capped at 100mbit, while it should be capped at 1000mbit with the gigabit ports.
The PC network is gigabit also, and with a 100mbit cap i cap my internet also since it is faster then that.
So that is why i had to connect the PC to the switch.
Could adding a 4 port gigabit switch make the router cap the amount of speed it lets through?
Because this seems to have started when i added the switch, before that everything was fine.
    Then problem 2.
To the router i got a external 2TB hard disk connected.
For whatever reason i cannot get any faster transfer rate then 2mb/s when moving files from desktop to the HD.
Most times it is just barely getting 1mb.
This is over the regular windows network, maybe that is the main issue?
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Sevy wrote:
I managed to fix the speed issue from the router to the PC.
Though still unsure why wired the transfer rate is so slow.
From the drive to the desktop i get about 18mb/s which isn't to bad.
But from the PC to the drive its now getting just below 10mb/s.
Check if the slow wired transfer speed happens on all wired devices in the network. Upgrade the firmware of the router as well.

  • MSI ti 4200 128 MB and Problems with "Need for Speed: HighStakes"

Does any one know of a fix for "Need for Speed: HighStakes" with the new 45.32 drivers. When trying to start this game it won't even load, the screen goes dark for a second and then falls back to the desktop. Did the same thing with 43.45, but if I install the drivers that came with the Video card ( I think they were 31.XX) then the game works fine. Haven't come across any other games that won't run except this one, some examples that work fine are UT 2003, C&C: Generals, Warcraft 3, Hot Pursuit 2.
    System:
XP pro OS (sevice pack 1) DirectX 9
    Athlon 1800
    512 MB RAM
    MSI nforce 2 Main board
    MSI GeForce 4 4200 ti 128 MB 8X AGP
    Thanks for any info.

well I "bugged" the game makers (EA) and the response is that the game doesn't suport Windows XP. Strange that the older nVidia 31.xx drivers work fine with the game. Also played it on my last machine which had XP and a ATI radeon video card. OH well who ever said Direct X was supposed to be backward compatible.
Too bad the older drivers don't work so well with the newer games.

  • Problem with safari slow speed

    Hi ,
I realized this problem when it was my first try to use macbookpro retina . it's just a few days that I bought my macbookpro retina. it's too slow compared with my older macbookpro!!!
      what should I do?
    thnx

Take it into your local Apple Store and see if they can reproduce the problem. You're still within your 14-day "grace" period, so you could always exchange your MBP-R for a new one, or return it for a refund.
It shouldn't be running anything slowly. Unless it's something with your wifi connection when you use Safari. The Apple Store has their own widi set up and can test Safari as well.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

    Thank You for the reply,
Before the latest update to PCAlert4 it was working properly, I cross checked the reported info. to that of Sandra, MBM, and in the bios.

  • WRT150N Problem with Macs - Slow Speed

Recently replaced my trusty old BEFW11S4 router with a new WRT150N - so as to have N wireless network speed for my AppleTV. But network speed is slow - way slower than it should be, easily 1/10 the speed of the BEFW11S4. The only wireless component was the AppleTV which saw the WRT150N and connected to my network, but transfer speed was dismal. My other Macs are wired connections straight to the WRT150N but they are slow now also - I had to swap back the BEFW11S4 just to get back to speed. I have TimeWarner cable modem, connected right to the router, nothing fancy here. Any suggestions? or does this thing just not like Macs?

Hi… I don’t think, you are missing something in the settings. I think you should reset and reconfigure the router. Reduce the MTU to 1356. Check the firmware. Try upgrade or re-flash the firmware.
