Problem with mic in on audigy 2 platinum

Hello,
When I try to record signal from my stereo microphone (for example sony ecm 959a) and I'm switchng to "mic in" only one channel is recording. When I'm switching to "line in " everything is ok (but then I can't use gain). "Mic in" in Audigy 2 platinum ex is mono or something?
Thx for help!

AFAIK it's mono.
You need to read something like [url="http://homerecording.com/sound_card_basics.html">this[/url].
I'm surprised you got both channels to work at all.

I'm having problems with my mic settings when using built-in game comms such as Half Life Counterstrike source and Battlefield 2...
I have my mic connected to Line / Mic on my Audigy External Panel which works fine when using voice comms such as Teamspeak and Ventrillo but when i load up any of the mentioned games it changes my settings from Line / Mic to just Mic, there is another Mic connection to the soundcard at the back as opposed to the Line / Mic connection on the external Panel but it doesn't appear to be working. Any ideas ?

Nevermind after extensi've searching in forums using several keywords i found this.. http://forums.creative.com/creativel...id=5203#M29642
Bit disapointed I didn't get a reply from any Creative tech heads though, as it is the 2nd time I posted about this same problem when Counterstrike Source originally came out
So I have to concede that i will think again when purchasing a ?40 product from creative when there is a lack of basic support :smileyindifferent:

  • 4 problems with new K8N Neo 2 Platinum

Just purchased by first MSI board after using Abit for years. Why...I read very good reviews on this board but now I wonder if I made a bad choice.
I have 4 problems with this board.
    1.       The PCI slots do not recognize any hardware. I have tried my US Robotics modem and Audigy sound card in each slot and nothing.
    2.       The fire wire port is inoperable. It does not appear in device manager.
    3.       The second LAN (Gigabit) does not function also. It does not appear in device manager.
    4.       Won’t boot with my Radeon 9600 XT graphics card. (Might work 1 out of 20 tries if lucky) It works on my old motherboard. Old 7200 works but has a hard time on cold boot.
All of this hardware still works in my old ABIT IC7-G
    Here is my setup
    Fresh install XP Pro SP2
    K8N Neo2 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 +3500 (Socket 939)
    (2) 512MB sticks Corsair TwinX-3200LL Slots 1&2
Radeon 9600XT (Currently using Radeon 7200) as 9600 wont boot
    Antec Trueblue Truepower 480W (+5V 38A/+12V 22A/+3.3V 30A)
Board came with bios ver. 1.3 out of box
    (2) Western Digital Raptors 36MB each (Raid 0) SATA 3&4
    Plextor PX 708A DVD RW
Sent an email to MSI tech support and received the following response:
With regard to your concern,  would you please first enter BIOS and Load Optimized Defaults, then save&exit. Also please remove all current drivers for your motherboard and install them over again using the setup CD provided by MSI along with your motherboard? And then please check if in Device Manager, there is any yellow marks, then check again.
If after re-install the drivers the problem still persists, could you please tell us how you connect your HDD to system, and which is your system partition, which can help us analyse the issue. Thanks in advance.
I have done each of these several times with no luck and my reponse to MSI is still unanswered.
Other than all these items......everything else works as I am using this PC to write this call for help.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problems with ASIO on multiple Audigy 2 ZS cards

    G'day,
I've been using an Audigy 2ZS PCI for a couple of years now with great success. I convert old audio recordings to various digital formats using a couple of applications (mainly Adobe Audition 1.5 & 2.0).
Recently, my workload has increased to the point where I needed one card to just record at high res, and another card to handle just playback and general Windows bells & whistles without impacting the performance of the recording.
I installed a second 2ZS, it was detected by Windows, etc, and I set it up so Windows uses one card (identified as A800) for all its stuff, and the second card (B000) is used only for ASIO recording.
That's where the nightmare started. I've uploaded and installed the May 2006 Creative driver update, but I still suffer from a number of problems, some related to Audition, some not.
The least annoying problem is that all the Creative drivers seem to identify only a truncated version of the ID string. So for example, in various applications, I see "SB Audigy 2ZS [B0 -1" or "SB Audigy 2ZS [A8 -5". This is annoying but not showstopping.
The biggest problem is getting applications to correctly interact with the Creative Labs ASIO driver and enumerator. Most applications (Nero, Audition, Premiere Pro) can "see" the ASIO driver, but when it's selected, it may not work at all, or may work from one or the other sound card, without any clear indication of which card is selected.
I'm sorry if this sounds generic, but I've spent a week with the Adobe folks, who simply ended up telling me "it's a problem with the CL drivers", and most forums I frequent say the same thing, and the specifics vary from application to application, but at the core, CL drivers are just not working properly with the system when two cards are installed.
By way of example, using ASIO4ALL has fixed many of the card selection problems, but even there, sometimes the inputs of one card are disabled, sometimes the other card, and in the middle of a recording session (line in jack, 44.1k/16 bit), the input waveform slowly biases down to -2V and then all I get are inverted samples - quiet appears as max. value samples, while valid audio appears as -2V samples! If I put the audio line into the other card, it plays just fine (I know what I'm doing WRT grounding and line levels, etc).
This system has run essentially non-stop since September 2005, and I guess it collected a lot of software crud, so I bit the bullet and performed a clean reinstall of Windows XP and updated every driver I could. Some problems have since changed for the better (i.e. clicking on the configure button of the CL ASIO driver no longer bluescreens or displays an empty window), but the problems described above still happen all the time.
I was wondering if other users have seen the same or similar problems, and if so, what has worked for you?
The system is a Gigabyte 81PE1000Pro2, PCI bus, 3.2GHz P4 with HT enabled, 2G physical RAM, and a 1.5Tb RAID disk system.
Recording when a single sound card (either of the cards works beautifully on its own) is perfect; just when both cards are installed, everything gets confused! Even the WDM drivers don't correctly identify or manage the routing of inputs and outputs reliably.
Sorry to go on about this. If anyone can offer constructive suggestions (I define "constructive" as not telling me to "buy another type of card" or (as one poor soul suggested) telling me that multiple PCI sound cards are not supported under Windows), I would be most grateful.
    Thanks and regards,
    Peter

G'day Jutapa, thanks for looking at this!
Yeah, I got all the possible ASIO drivers listed, one CL ASIO driver is listed for each card, and I have spent much time trying different configurations of card order, I/O port order, direct sound enabling/disabling, timesync enable/disable, etc.
The problem for me with the CL ASIO drivers is that it limits me to 48/96k sampling only. That is not acceptable, because I need to sample at 44.1k for "straight" conversions to CD, or 192k/24-bit for archival purposes (used for extremely old or fragile recordings), so I end up with large files that nearly always need to be resampled to 44.1k, or saved permanently at 192k/24-bit. Typical filesize is 650Mb, largest so far is 5.66Gb - so that's an awful lot of time spent downsampling or pointless upsampling. I'm starting to think that the problems I'm experiencing may be due to sampling at "non-native" ASIO or WDM rates. I haven't tried sampling at 48/96k to see if that "fixes" the problem...
Using the WDM wrapper drivers (I don't know if these are provided - or supported! - by Creative or Adobe) results in randomly disabling one or the other Audigy. At that point, the only way to recover functionality for the disabled card is to reboot. Sometimes only the inputs are disabled, sometimes only the outputs, sometimes both. There is no pattern that I can see or duplicate.
Both cards appear to work fine under Windows. I can define either card as the default recording or playback device, and I can define one card as the default recording and the other as the default playback, any combination works fine. However, any application that uses WDM drivers to access the cards also get confused when a card's inputs suddenly become disabled! This does not appear to happen when Windows is the only application using the cards.
Specifying "use preferred devices" in Windows does disable the non-selected card (or card input or output if I specify different cards for input and output) in other applications.
The problems are much worse when I try to use any ASIO drivers to access the cards. This problem with ASIO appears regardless of the application I use.
I have installed ASIO4ALL, and it finds and configures the cards without any problems in ALL applications - but if I'm recording (with no other applications or drivers or tray applications loaded or active), when I stop recording and restart, the input I was just recording from appears disabled! If I open the ASIO4ALL configuration window, one or both Audigy cards will have their inputs disabled, or both inputs AND outputs disabled. This doesn't happen all the time, and my workaround is not to stop recording once I've started. Not a good workaround! I do realise that ASIO4ALL does fiddle around with the sample rates in the background, but at least when it works, I get a single clean sample without having to do all the resource-intensive resampling later. Maybe it's 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other...
I understand and appreciate that perhaps CL never intended to provide software functionality for more than one Audigy on any given PCI bus/bridge. I just don't get why the drivers appear to work natively under Windows (I'm assuming that Windows just uses WDM access) but not with any other applications.
I will try and do some testing with "native" ASIO sample rates (i.e. 48/96k) and see if that fixes some or all of the problems. My concern here is really that my expectation is that the drivers, once identified and enabled, should not suddenly disable themselves in all applications (by whatever mechanism), regardless of what sample rates are specified. But maybe that's too much to expect.
BTW, this happens with any combination of 2 of my 3 Audigy 2ZS cards, each of which works perfectly on its own with ASIO and WDM drivers. So it's definitely a multiple card issue.
The workaround that has been suggested is to purchase a different vendor's card : but there are so few cards that I can use to sample at the resolutions I require, and they are all so bloody expensive, that's why I've committed so much to CL Audigy 2ZS.
I'll get back to you once I've tried a few days working at the "standard" ASIO sample rates. Thanks again for taking the time with this stupid and unusual problem!
    Kind regards,
    Peter

  • Audio latency problem with VST, SONAR and Audigy 4 PRO

    Hello all,
I have a slight problem with audio performance on my computer and I can't isolate what is wrong. I am using Cakewalk SONAR 4 studio edition, and a recently purchased Audigy 4 Pro soundcard. ( I know it's not quite professional grade, but it works well for me) I recently bought some string instruments from the Vienna Symphonic Library. So far, I love the sound of these "virtual instruments" if you will. The problem comes when I try to record them. I get stuttering and dropouts when I try to record the track in Sonar. I've tried the WDM drivers in 16 and 24 bit modes and the ASIO drivers (which apparently only support 16 bit!?) I know Creative has mentioned that these cards can record easily at 24/96 which is what I'd like if possible. Vienna instruments come in a 24 bit format. Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I need to seriously consider a different soundcard? I use Sonar to bring in the Vienna instruments as a VST. I also apply a reverb on it. When I just play this stuff on my MIDI keyboard, it all sounds great and keeps up. The moment I go to record though, I get dropouts after about 15 seconds or so. Also, is there no way to get ASIO 24 bit support for creative's consumer level cards? I'd be happy with the WDM's personally if those would work. I've looked into the KX project as well but haven't had a chance to try their drivers yet. On a different note, what are the significant differences between ASIO and WDM if any at all? (aside from supported bit rates) My current computer setup is quite powerful and I don't use much CPU power at all so I don't think it's my setup. Intel E6700 (2.67Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2-800, 320GB Seagate SATA in RAID 1, Nvidia 7600GT, and Creative Audigy 4 Pro. Any help, or insight would be greatly appreciated!
    Matthew

Audigy 4 Pro should support 24-bit/96 kHz w/ ASIO --> have you selected those I/O drivers in Sonar audio settings (Options-Audio-Drivers -tab). ! You need to unselect all I/O drivers first to get those 24/96 drivers selectable)?
Dropouts comes from various sources. Have you checked if the read/write caching is set properly (Sonar, try different settings)?
Stuttering may come from shared IRQ/resources and PCI Latency settings.
If your graphics card is not PCIe then, make this registry tweak
Run regedit and search the key named as DisableProgPCILatency
    - set all 'DisableProgPCILatency' key values to 1 (HEX or DEC) (1 = disabled, 0 = enabled)
    - boot to BIOS settings and find the "PCI latency timer" option --> set its value to 32 or 64 (this is global PCI latency setting)
    - reboot
and check the IRQ situation. If there are IRQ shares between Audigy and other devices/controllers, try to get those fixed by disabling unneeded controllers/devices or by moving the Audigy into another PCI slot (PCI slots #3 and #4 are normally not shared).
    Couple meaninful differences between WDM/KS and ASIO are;
    - you can't get latency lower than 10 ms w/ WDM/KS (well, you can in Sonar by manually editing those buffer values but, the result is not good when you go under 10 ms buffer values (buffersize / samplerate * 1000 = latency in ms --> 512/96000*1000=5.33ms)
    and
    - you can record from one stereo (you can split this to two mono) source at a time w/ WDM (recording source is set in CT Surround Mixer (or windows recording controls))
    - ASIO supports (Audigy serie) locked 'resolutions' only - 16/48 or 24/96
Also, tweak your system for music - http://www.musicxp.net/
Some information on CT ASIO -

Hi all! I want to buy the k8n neo p., was reading this review:
    http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=6&id=1247&pg=12
    The author write:
"One of the problem we encountered was the transistor positioning near the AGP slot. With extremely lengthy AGP cards, one of the capacitors located in that area may obstruct certain components on the graphics card. As such, users with large graphics cards might want to first test the installation of a graphics card before purchasing this motherboard."
I have a Gainward 6800GT Powerpack Ultra/2400 Golden Sample, the red model with double red fans, visible here http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gainward-ultra2400.html

I have a Dell XPS Gen 2. I was using the mic/headphone jacks in the front of the computer. When I switched the mic/headphone to the back of the computer in the soundcard, everyone heard me fine. Go into both your Creative Labs Surround Mixer control panel and make sure you have your mic selected on Record to Mic. I have the following muted in there with the X: Midi Synth, CD Audio, CD-Digitial, and ALSO Microphone. Keep Line-In and Wave umuted. In your XP Sound control panel, the same thing. Also go into advanced Mic settings there and make sure the DB boost is checked. In TS under Settings/Options/Sound Devices I have it set to Wave and then both SB Audigy is selected for input/output. Settings/Options/Sound Input/Output Settings I have Push To Talk selected. I'm sure now that I have it working I can play with it some more to get Voice Activation tweaked to work well, but I'm happy that they can hear me without a giant helicopter sound coming through anymore. :-) Let em know how it goes.
