Problem with microfone on my mac mini

hello folks,
Recently I purchased mac mini 1.83 intel core 2 duo. This is my first home experience with mac and I must tell you it is more fun than mac at work.
Anyway I have a problem I don't know how to solve. I both headset (earphones and microphone) and after I plug it in I realized that my mic don't work. Replaced headset, same thing. I tried System preferences\sound and I found out that my volume is on max. but there is no one blue dot above, everything is grey. Earphones work perfectly well!
Please can anybody help me! Is there anything I could do wrong or did not do at all?

A standard (non amplified mic) will not work via the Mini's Line In.
You need either an amplified mic, or some sort of interface like Griffin's iMic.

A lot of problems with Lion Server in Mac Mini Server

I have a new Mac Mini Server and I have a lot of problems.
The server application works well for a day, then start to have problem, for example: I can not change the configuration of the share folder, I add a new user but he can not see some folders.
Then if I login the Mac Mini with another user, he can not see the starting folder and if you open a new folder you see a lot of strange documents.
Later, with administrator user, I can not login the server application, I put the user name and password but it refuses it (user name and passowrd are correct)
In the end I also can not login the computer.
I reinstalled the Lion Server 2 times but nothing change, after 2 days it doesn't work like before.
I'm very upset, this is the first time in more then 20 year I have a problem with an Apple computer.
What can I do?

Crash problem with elements 10 and mac mini lion 10.7.3

since i download element 10 into mac mini lion10.7.3 my system crashing all the time. i re installed adobe nothing happend. only solition so far shut down the mac and resart it again. and thats give me another 30 min fast work.
i tried CS4 AND CS5 had same problem.
does anyone know an answer?

Working with Photoshop can tax a system, and if there are weak links, as Chris Cox alludes to, that can push the computer over the edge. It is not that the program (PSElements in this case) is "causing" the problem, only that it is revealing the weakness, where other programs, say e-mail reader, Web browser, wordprocessor, etc., will not tax the computer enough to point out the problem.
I agree with Chris in that it sounds like you have a hardware issue, such as a bad stick of RAM. That might not get used with regular computing tasks, but then PSE needs more RAM, so suddenly that stick is put into use.
There are several RAM test software programs (some better than others, and often by a great margin), but I do not know what is available for a Mac. Maybe others will have a rec. for you. Also, Chris has commented on some PC RAM test software, and does not like some of those applications, so if he recommends something for the Mac, go with his recs, as he knows what he's talking about.
Good luck, and wish that I had more to offer. I have several articles on tracking down hardware and OS errors, but all are for the PC, and hence, of little use here - sorry.

Mighty Mouse problem with duo core intel mac mini & 26" LCD/TV display

I have an Olevia 26" LCD/TV display connected to my Intel Duo core mac mini and I have been using a Mighty Mouse with it from the start but all of a sudden the mouse pointer will not come out of the upper right corner. It moves out a little and then pops back into the corner.
I connected the Mighty Mouse to my g4 PowerBook and it tracks and scrolls fine. I've also cleaned it and tried it on a solid, dark service while connected to the mac mini and those things don't help either.
Any suggestions anyone. I've been using the Mighty Mouse for months and I love especially the ability to scroll horizonitally as I use Final Cut Pro and that features is GREAT in the timeline window.
I can't seem to find anything here in the discussions specifcally with this issue so any guidance would be appreciated!

if all is fine on the install disk, run disk repair http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672. if not, i would reset the open firmware. do this by holding apple-option-o-f on keyboard while you start up and you get a screen that says "welcome to open firmware". type in following commands, without quotations-- "reset-nvram" (hit return) and "reset-all" (hit return). second command restarts the computer. good luck.[:)]

Sleep problem on new 1.5GHz Mac mini

Anyone else having problems with their Intel-based Mac mini not waking up after it's been in sleep mode for a while (1-2 hours)?
The mini's light stops pulsating when trying to wake it up from sleep, but only stays dim. It never actually wakes up. A hard boot doesn't even fix the problem. Only after it's been unplugged and plugged back in does it start back up.
It also has had problems using a Samsung LCD monitor (VGA). Display preferences showed multiple refresh rates. When one of these refresh rates was chosen, the screen went black. Did everything to fix the problem (zapped PRAM, deleted preferences, etc) but ended up erasing the hard drive and reinstalling everything over again. The sleep issue persists but the display issue seems to be fixed.
Thought this may be related to the Intel integrated graphics. Thanks for any help!

OK - best to collect some data.
Do you have another computer in your home network. It would be good to see if the unresponsive mini will respond to network pings. Use the Network Utility - go to the ping tab, and enter the name of your mini. (The name is shown in the sharing preference pane) add .local to the end if you don't have a name server set up.
Second - you may want to turn on Remote Login and Apple Remote Desktop so you can log into the mini through the network and shut things down cleanly (as well as look at what really is happening)
Third - open the Console App - and look over the system.log and the console.log.
If I had to guess (and I don't have near enough info to make a real call) - I would guess it's not sleeping, but hung. I was able to get FrontRow in a tizzy switching resolutions all over the place and without remote log in - I never would have known and probably given up and pulled the plug.
Sorry I can't solve it out of the gate - but if it happens again - we can show you some tricks to narrow down the causes...

Problems installing OSX Lion - new Mac Mini 2011

I'm having major problem with my brand new Mac Mini.
I wanted to upgrade it right away after reading so many succeful upgrading reports on various forums so I bought a 120GB Intel 320 SSD disk and 2x4 GB of Kingston 1333mhz ram. I swapped the drives right away and idiotically used to original drive in a case to create an external installation USB-drive (my 4GB USB drives didn't work).
I then created a bootable USB-disk with the external original drive and tried to install but only get the circle with slash after selecting the drive in the "options" menu. If I remove the USB-drive I get a flashing folder icon. If start holding down Command + S I get a message saying that the "version of OSX is not supported on this platform".
I also tried using the Recovery Assistant HD to create a bootable recovery tool but that gives the same results.
In short:
I can't install OSX Lion on a brand new Mac Mini with upgraded HD and Ram. I don't have the original installation anymore.
Am I out of luck?

Issues with external drive on Mac Mini / Lion

I'm using an external SATA drive in a Newer Technologies Voyager dock (which I like to call the "toaster") with a brand new Mac Mini i5 2.3G via FW800.
The drive was formatted using Disk Utility on a G4 running Tiger (10.4.11)
With the drive mounted, the Mini's performance seems to slow down, and it randomly dismounts the drive, with the usual warning, "you disconnected your drive without dismounting it first, bla bla...)
I think I remember when Leopard was new, there was a firmware issue that had to be dealt with, and when moving drives from OS 9 to X and back to 9, I lost access to the data on the drive.
I'm also aware of the partitioning scheme difference when formatting drives for use on the Intel machines.
Could either of the above have anything to do with the problem I'm having here?

I'm not an expert in this, but as far as I know, GUID only comes into play if you want to boot from it, but...... you never know, it could - here is an excerpt from Disk Utility:
If you’ll be using the disk only with Mac computers, choose GUID Partition Table.
Another thought is: how old is that drive? All hard drives fail sooner or later - have you tried to check it with Disk Utility or something like Disk Warrior?

and when i close the app the color has back to the original color.

Not sure which screen you mean, but maybe your seeing the Application Frame in photoshop cs6.
You can turn that off in photoshop cs6 under Window>Application Frame.
If that's not it, could you post a screenshot?

Bought my Ipad from the US & presently using it in Nigeria.I'm having a problem with iMessage on my iPad mini, I've been trying to activate it and I've been receiving an error message saying my password is incorrect which I'm pretty sure isn't because I still buy apps on the iTunes Store with it. What can I do?

Have you looked at some of the 3rd party apps that will do this for you? Some of them are iPodAgent for Windows, copypod, yamipod. Most of them can be found on versiontracker.com, if not try to "google" them. Also, if you have purchased music, you can now import that off your iPod to your new system. Hope this helps.

I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.

Hi everybody out there using Mac Pro's early 2008,
I found out there is a lot of problems with the early 2008 Mac Pro.
My early 2008 Mac Pro has been repaired ones under warranty and now it stopped working again ! Also see under: Mac Pro early 2008 no chime and does not start up. Why is this ????
It worked well for about 2 years and then it just fails and i had this failing issue twice already !!! Is this just a BAD Apple product or how do you think I need to approach this. Let’s face it, these machine don’t come cheap and you at least expect them to work without problems for 4-5 years. What is happening here ???

Applications should not disappear all by themselves.
If they are then that coud indicate serious problems with your hard drive.
Backup everything up as quickly as possible.
Using Disk Utility verify your system disk.
