Problem with mpg audio in Quicktime

OK Here's one. I was doing fine on my new iMac but now all of a sudden Quicktime will noy play the audio of any mpg or mpeg file...just the video. I tried re-installing quicktime but it didn't fix it. Any ideas?

Dolphbucs, are those file types set to be handled by QuickTime in the QuickTime System Preferences? If so, have you checked the format setting in the Audio MIDI Setup utility? It should be 44100.0 Hz

    Hey MrCurwen,
I was able to find an article that included the same error message you're experiencing:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot run because it detects an issue with QuickTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1371
According to that article, if you see the error message "iTunes cannot run because it has detected a problem with your audio configuration," QuickTime may need to be reinstalled. Please follow the steps below to uninstall QuickTime and then download and install QuickTime using the QuickTime standalone Installer.
On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
Follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click Uninstall a program (or if using Windows Vista's Classic View of the Control Panel, click Programs and Features) and select QuickTime in the list of currently installed programs.
Click the Remove button (or Uninstall for Windows Vista and Windows 7) and follow the prompts to remove QuickTime from your computer.
Download QuickTime. Note: There are two options for downloading QuickTime, be sure to select the option that does not include iTunes.
    During the download:
If you choose to run the installer, proceed to the next step.
If you choose to save the download, double click the QuickTimeInstaller file, then proceed to next step.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install QuickTime.
    Reopen iTunes.

  • Itunes cannot run because it detected a problem with your audio config.

I keep coming up with this message. I feel like I have tried everything. Uninstalling---reinstalling---installing earlier versions---even tried apple's help page regarding this error. Nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem. Everytime I try to open itunes it shows the dialog "itunes has detected a problem with your audio config..." and then when it "opens"
has no background, so it's impossible to do something. I've tried to reinstall itunes and quicktime in different ways like both of them separately and following every instruction in Apple's Web site like article #304424. I've installed prior versions for those programs too and the problem persist, tried to clean up the registry, etc. I don't want to reinstall Windows to solve this issue 'cause it seems to be only way to get rid of this! =( HELP!!!

  • ITunes Cannot Run It Has Detected a Problem With Your Audio Configuration

Well... I've just come back from christmas with my new green iPod nano (second gen), and I try to use iTunes. It has an "...unknown error (-200)." So I download the new iTunes. NOW it says "iTunes Cannot Because Run It Has Detected a Problem With Your Audio Configuration." I've tryed the support but it doesn't have any WORKING solution. If SOMEONE could PLEASE tell me whats going on, I'd be REALLY greatful.
I've been trying to figure this out for almost 3 days now and I'm hanging by a string here.

It is your QuickTime application, actually. What you want to do is go into your Control Panel, and then Add/Remove Programs. Find QuickTime, click on it, and click on Remove, and then follow through the prompts to uninstall QuickTime.
Then, go here to reinstall it:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Make sure you choose the second option that says QuickTime for Windows (NOT the QuickTime with iTunes).
Go through the download and install, and whenever it completes, try to launch iTunes.

  • 'iTunes could not run because it had detected a problem with your audio...

    ...configuration.'
I have just updated to the newest iTunes version from the latest version.
I have installed iTunes and when I click 'iTunes' to launch iTunes, it says this 'iTunes could not run because it had detected a problem with your audio configuration.'
I get the option to click 'OK' or 'Help'
When I click 'OK' the window closes and then nothing happens.
When I click 'Help' nothing happens.
    Any advice??

It's probably QuickTime 7.3 that is the problem. Uninstall it and install version 7.2 instead. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72forwindows.html

When I go to open Itunes, I get a message saying "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not work properly. I've tried closing and re-opening Itunes but it still comes up. I've also tried removing quicktime, repairing Itunes and restarting my computer after that. It still says the same thing. • Error message -ITunes has detected a problem with your audio config...HELP

error message - itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. audio/video playback may not operate properly...
ive gone through the itunes support steps such as reinstalling quicktime and itunes and nothing seems to work... itunes still open...but then nothing plays...please help me

I've cobbled together a few ideas courtesy of some posts made by the inimitable b noir concerning this particular problem .
    First ...
... let's try swapping out your QuickTime, taking a few additional explicit precautions this time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
    Next ...
If you're still getting the message with a fresh quicktime in place, let's check to see if something is awry with your sound card.
Open your "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel. Click the "Audio" tab. Is the correct default device showing up in the "Sound Playback" area?

  • ITunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration, audio/video

When i open iTunes i recieve a message saying "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration, audion/video playback may no operate properly." iTunes opens fine after i click ok on the message. However when i push play to hear a song nothing happens, the time for the song remains at zero's.

This error can be caused by a bad installation of QuickTime. Remove iTunes and QuickTime, and reinstall iTunes (which will reinstall QuickTime). You can find the steps to remove and reinstall near the bottom of this article in the Apple knowledege base.

  • ITunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration...?!!?!?!?!?!

i get thins message when i open itunes...
"iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback man not operate properly."
    HOW DO I FIX IT??

Sounds like several people still have this problem... including me.
I upgraded to a new PC (still running XP , installed iTunes 8.0.2.20, reloaded my library...
And I got the "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration" error.
I've deinstalled and reinstalled Quicktime to no avail.
iTunes seems to launch okay after the error.
But when I select a song and click "play", the song and time-counter show up correctly, but the song does not play... the "play head" stays stuck at 0:00.
I've imported new CDs, and the problem is the same with them.
This sounds like an unsolved problem... where do we go from here?

  • Error - itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration...

Can anyone help me with this one?
"itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video may not playback properly."
I can get into itunes - but nothing plays - not the radio - not my playlist.
    Please help!

Then you may have a startup item (an item that starts up when your computer starts up) that is interfering with iTunes/Quicktime. Try following the advice here and seeing if there's anything starting up that doesn't need to be:
    http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/features/38454/ManageWindows_StartupItems.html
Be careful of what you remove.
Also, if you have any sort of USB or such audio hardware, try removing it and trying again.
