Problem with msn

I have been using a program called Adium insted of the original msn software to chat to my msn buddys. About a week ago however I was no longer able to go on msn using Adium and then I tryed it using the msn program but it didn't connect either. It said that I should check my internet connection but that was working fine. I could browse the internet and use skype as usual but msn didn't work. I thought that there was something wrong with my internet connection and tryed to log in to msn using a windows based PC and voila, I was online.
Now I am sitting in a local library and this problem still percists, I am unable to use msn but I can browse the internet as usual.
Help anyone?

Hi Gestur,
Couple of things-
1) Would you please be able to share with the class which malicious software blocked Adium from connecting to MSN? So we all know to take care.
2) Can you mark your topic solved, since it is?
Thanks for your help

  • Problems with MSN Messenger - need quick help

I posted yesterday that I was having some trouble with my Ameritrade stock trading account, it was a java issue and they had me delete the cache in java and my Ameritrade worked again.
Now this morning I'm having problems with MS messenger which I use all day long for my job. When I try to sign in it keeps telling me it can't sign me in and I must not be connected to the internet. Which I am.
Its got some thing to do with my airport wireless thingy. Is there some way to "open" that up. When I unplug it and then replug it back in I can sign in to MS messenger for about a minute but then it somehow blocks it.
It keeps me on the internet but I get a message that I an not connected to .NET Messenger service. It is blocking me on my laptop PC now too. And it behaves the same way. After unplugging the airport I get a quick window where I can sign in but after that it blocks that .NET messenger service.
Is there some way I can open up the airport so I can get on the NET messenger service. Skype and iChat work but I can't use either for my job.
Does anyone have any suggestions (I'm begging here cuz i start work at 9:30 am and I need it working by then!).
    Thanks, Susan

Wow this is a mess, I want to add that again i'm sure its the airport extreme somehow. However on my PC laptop I can sign into messenger with an older version of it but when i try the new LIVE messenger it won't let me sign in.
The iMac version forces you to use the latest version so I can't use an older "non live" version to sign in with. I am praying someone can help me figure out what is wrong.
Thanks sorry for reposting but i'm frantic!

    Hello, RedHavoc & Annette,
New developments when i attempted to sign in today this is how it worked.
Go to http://www.msn.com/ on that log in page just down from the log in box:
Windows Live ID click on what most best describes the account you have (for instance mine is Passport)
Works with Windows Live, MSN, and Microsoft Passport sites
Account Services | Privacy Statement | Terms of Use
    © 2006 Microsoft Corporation.
Click "Sign In" On upper right hand corner of the page, then your are take to:
Enter email address & password, click Sign in. Bring you to MSN Account Services Home
On Upper right hand side of the page click on : MSN Home | My MSN | Hotmail | Shopping | Money | People & Chat.</b<
When you get to that page you should be able to Pick "Messenger" if that is what you use, or to My MSN, Hotmail.
Hope this works, I also did not have to enable cookies to "All" for sign out either, which was a requirement for my passport account, prior with the use of Safari.
Please let me know if this works for you.
p.s. When I look at cookies it looks as if this method creates the live.com cookiesthat must be reguired to log in along with accountsservices.msn.com accountservices.passport.net, these are all cookies that are new , i know because I would look thru & delete them, ( which i still intend to do) so this must be a way of establishing new ids for users, I presume for "Windows Live".

cannot get out of full page on a website. The websiste page MSN has taken over my screen and the Safari bar with all my information and my Safari is gone! I tried shutting down my computer but cannot get back to what was on it before

Try command - control - F or slide the cursor to the top left and hold down the option/alt key while clicking the green circle.

  • Problems with MSN e-mail

I always have issues when logging into my MSN hotmail account from Mac computers. I suspect it's because of Safari although I'm not completely sure. On school computers I have to always type in my password twice and on my personal macbook, I have to take a sort of roundabout approach to access it. Anyone had this problem?

It's not Safari, it's MSN. They've created their site to sniff for the IE browser, and if it detects something else, it doesn't work. If the Develop menu is active in Safari, go to Develop>User Agent and choose one of the IE browsers for Windows 6 or 7. The page should reload and you should be able to login.

  • Problem with 'MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes' in Excel

I have been downloading quotes into Excel using the "MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" connection. On December 23, 2014, this connection stopped working
properly, now seems to be connecting to MSN homepage, and does NOT bring in the requested quotes. Do anyone have a solution or work around for this problem?

    Partial solution here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/11/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx
As reported earlier, the %Change column is now 100 times larger than it should be.
I use the quotes in other pages of my Excel program as a basis for other Excel calculations.  Some of the cells in my it-worked-before-the-December-update worksheet now show "#REF!" errors because
"MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" in Excel is not getting all of the quotes (missing
about 10% of the quotes I used to get).  Each time it misses a quote, the missing quote causes all of the following requested quotes to move one row higher.  That throws my whole spreadsheet off because references to cells in
"MSN MoneyCentral Investor Stock Quotes" now grab the wrong quote or the Terms of Use or copyright notice below all of the quotes.
It helps to remove any spaces from the quote parameters.
Use "amzn, wmt, cost", instead of "amzn, wmt, cost".

  • Problem with seeing messages received on msn messe...

    Hi,
I've had the nokia X6 for 3 months now (my future father in law sent it to me as a gift! ) and i absolutely love it, but i have a problem with msn messenger. After i start a conversation with someone, i'm not able to see messages received until AFTER i send a message again, so my messages end up being a delayed response. I don't get any sort of message alert (like i do on my laptop) to make me aware i've been sent a message.
It really annoyed me a few days ago because I was trying to talk to my fiance via msn on my phone, but my responses were slow as i had to send him a message first in order to read his one. He suggested i join this forum, so please can someone help me?!
I know it may sound silly trying to get it solved now, considering i've had it for 3 months, but i wasn't really using msn on my phone till recently. This is the first time i'm able to use the internet on my phone, so i'm extra excited, but this msn problem has been bugging me. Please, please, please can someone help me solve this?
    Thanks.
    Solved!

LOL yeah, i've got a cool future father in law No, it's not on WLAN or gprs, but yeah, i need to check msn settings and probably call nokia support as well.
Sorry for the late reply. I was subscribed to get an email when someone replies, but i didn't! It's good i decided to check today if there were any responses to my question!

  • I can't access hotmail or gmail. I get the message "unable to connect to the server". However I can access both msn and google main page and not problems with other sites. Any ideas of what to do?

Cannot access hotmail or gmail, although no problems with the actual msn home page or other sites. I get the message: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at .....
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://login.live.com; http://www.google.com

    Hi thanks for reply.
No, not that I'm aware. How/Where can I check this?
The only think I've done recently is install a different antivirus program and uninstall the old one which had expired. Not sure if this is linked to the problem...?

  • ZEN Xtra 40G has problems with protected content bought from MSN Mu

I bought a few albums from MSN Music. These songs are the only ones I have ever had problems with.
Basically When I am playing one of these songs and try to Fast Forward through the song I get a Playback error and the player locks up. Also If am playing one of these songs and shut off the player, when I turn it back on It says the song is playing and there is no music (It is locked up).
Also I have another issue, although it may be by design it is pretty annoying.. If I try to play these songs through media source when I have my Zen extra connected with a USB cable media source returns with. "The selected file is protected and cannot be played in media source".
Anyone else having similar issues with protected content?
I have already upgraded my firmware and driver..
    Thanks,

I've never used WMAs, let alone those with DRM. At a guess the license probably prevents you from copying back to the PC i.e. it's a one way only transfer.
I think you need to check with the music store you bought from as to whether you can download the tracks again to your PC. This is one of the irritating things about WMA and DRM, although perhaps there are methods to back the files and the licenses up. I don't know enough about the technology, but suffice to say for the moment I'm steering clear, buying CDs, and using MP3 to encode them.

  • Multipul Problems with Mail and MSN Messenger

So here is my story. A couple of weeks ago i installed Leopard to my powerbook. it all seemed to be working ok. I went overseas for 2 weeks, had my blackberry stolen, so i had to change all my email passwords. SO, now my mail program won't connect to my email accounts. I changed the passwords in mail for my hotmail and personal email account but it says it can't connect. My MSN Messenger also won't connect. It seems like some type of firewall problem, but i have no idea how to fix it. I have check my settings under security and repaired my permissions.
    Any thoughts?

I'm not having any problem with Gmail at all.
What are the specific Incoming and Outgoing server settings for that Gmail account, and what is the exact text of the error message you get, if any? Is this a POP or IMAP account? When did this start happening and what did you do just prior to this problem starting?

  • When I do a search, with MSN as my homepage, it pops up in a new window not a tab like it used to. MSN says it is Firefox related. How do I fix this? I have the option selected to open new windows in tabs instead and it still won't work.

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [/questions/832115]</blockquote><br>
I use Firefox 4.0.1 and have MSN set as my homepage. Recently, even with the option set to make windows open in tabs instead, if I do searches on the MSN page, the results pop up in a new window. I contacted MSN and they said it is something to do with Firefox. It didn't use to do this, even after initially upgraded to 4.0.1, but started about a week ago and even with me doing nothing to my computer. How do I get this to stop and go back to new tabs instead?
It does not do this using Google, AOL, Yahoo, or another other search, just MSN/Bing.

That's strange. It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is changing your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal? Also have you tried uninstalling & re-installing flash? If you need help un-installing Flash see http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html. You also could try safe mode. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Safe+Mode .
