Problem with MTRR - X doesn't start after fresh install

Hi all!
I have a big problem with MTRR, i think...
My PC Specs: P4 3GHZ with HT "prescot", Asus P4S800D-X, ATI x1650 Pro, 1024MB Ram Dual Channel, etc...
I can't start the X system. When i try to try the new Xorg.conf, the X seems to start but the screen stays blank and sometimes can i go back to TTY and sometimes not...
I've tryed with the following drivers and no luck.
- Vesa: Blank Screen, sometimes keyboard works and sometimes not.
- RadeonHD: The same...
- Radeon (or ati): The same...
At the end of the Xorg.0.log, i see the MTRR problem. the memory from the VGA Card is not detected automatically. The "cat /proc/mtrr" differs from ubuntu 8.04, when the X server works correctly.
Ive been reading a lot in google and others forum and see a lots of tricks related to MTRR (but im not completly sure of that's the problem...) but every trick i try doesn't seems to work.
I tryed the following tricks:
- Adding the memory to /proc/mtrr manually = Added correctly but NO LUCK
- Activate/Deactivate HotPlugging = NO LUCK
- Adding to my boot line the "nopat" and "enable_mtrr_cleanup = MTRR keeps showing wrong memory (no video memory)
- After adding correctly the memory to MTRR  try the xorg.conf but blank screen (i dunno if xorg rewrites the mtrr when run)
- Some others tricks i cant remember...
Also, with the radeonhd, i get this errors in xorg.0.log:
- rhdAtomgetDDCIndex: GPIO_DDC Index 14 exceeds maximum 5
- RHDCSStop: Command Submission backen is not active!
- error setting MTRR ( base... blablabla) Invalid argument (22)
That's not my first install, but i can't make it work. As i readed, it's a kernel problem related to 2.6.29, in 2.6.28 there's no problem but i dont have access to the old kernel.
Can someone help my or i need to wait for a new kernel release to use Arch?
Bye!

I can't solve your problem, but I can help you work around it by downgrading if nobody else can figure it out.
You can find old packages here at the Arch Rollback Machine project repo someone thankfully keeps running,
http://arm.nrk.cc/
Just go to 'core' and get the package(s) you need and downgrade. There is also a thread on here somewhere about setting up pacman.conf to point to a specific date with ARM if you don't want to get individual stuff manually, but just doing it individually would probably be easier, as I don't expect the kernel has too many other things you need

    Hello,
my problem is with importing saved .json backup file in fresh installed firefox 3.6.8? Message "unable to process the backup file", when i choosed option "Restore" from menu "organize your bookmarks" !?
Normally that i followed all instructions from your support site, and that i tried many things, but nothing helped :( !?
my .json file isn't corrupted cause it was saved on another partition before formatting my OS.
Please don't tell me that my bookmarks are lost :( cause i had many important things in that bookmarks, on 100.s pages :( ....
    Thanks in advance!

Can you restore that JSON backup in a new profile?
Did you make sure that it is really a JSON backup and that there is no missing or hidden other file extension?
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded"
    A HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
You can try if you can restore that JSON backup in a new profile.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
Please for administration of this support site, make possibility to quote someone's answer, on this way is dificult to answer somebody who wrote some suggestion!
No, i can't restore JSON backup in new profile, even on fresh installed OS XP SP3, with fresh installation of latest version of firefox!
MAN I TOLD YOU 10X IT'S 200 % JSON BACKUP FILE!!! I'M NOT IN IT FROM YESTERDAY, I WORK IN IT 12 YEARS!!!
I tried restoring json backup in new profile, but nothing, i couldn't restore, cause that stupid error from screen shot which i posted again appears !
Man i'm not totally noob i repeat 2nd time here, and normally that i know to create new profile, and that i tried that, but that didn't help!
I can't believe that FIREFOX has not good support team, and doesn't care for yours users, this will not give me more reason to use in future firefox
like borwser, if i don't have good support, and when i have problem like this, to loose all my very important bookmarks and passwords on them, and
firefox support won't to help me to solve my problem!
If somebody from firefox support team read this, i can give you Remote desktop access to my computer to try solve this problem, like other serious company
like HP, Dell , etc. give remote desktop support to their users!
Corel are you from firefox support team? Please don't write same suggestions, cause i know to read, and i understand well if you write once some suggestion!

  • Problem with applications that doesn't show even if installed and to uninstall some that work wrong

    Hi there!
Problem #1: I've been having problems with my Windguru application in my Iphone. From sometime onwards, it is not showing the forecasted wind, etc after I open it. Tried to uninstall and install again but the problem continues. Seems like there is something sticking in my iphone that is preventing the app to work correctly after uninstalled. Is there something "Windows like" to clean all remains of an application?
Problem #2 and somehow related: I installed Netflix app in my Iphone as a trial and went ok. Then, logically, tried in my Ipad but something went wrong. The App is installed but doesn't show anyplace. In App store it shows as installed, in General Settings it shows in the list of applications, but no Icon!
Then I tried to uninstall from Itunes and the same thing continued happening. Worse, then I tried to install from Itunes, SAW the icon with the progress bar being installed in the Ipad and suddenly it dissapeared!!
    Anyone can help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • [Solved] X11 won't start after fresh install

    Hihi!
I've been using Debian for quite some time now but I want to switch to Arch. My notebook is fairly modern and this doesn't mix well with Debian and as such my dGPU is basically unusable. My preferred method of installing Debian is to start headless so I felt quite at home with Arch and got through the install just fine, but I'm having problems launching Openbox among other hardware related issues. I spent yesterday googling and attempting fixes but came up with nothing, so I had to reinstall Debian as I was counting on having a usable computer at the end of the day. I did write down the messages I was getting though, hopefully they are enough to diagnose the issue. My hardware:
    AMD A10-5750M (8650G graphics)
    AMD Radeon 8970M 2GB
The kernel was the one in the very latest install snapshot (3.12-9 or something)
The first thing I noticed after booting into the fresh install was a warning along these lines
[drm:r600_dma_ring_test] radeon: ring 3 test failed
I ignored it, and preceeded to install the following packages
    xorg-server
    xorg-utils
    xorg-xinit
    mesa
    xf86-video-ati
    openbox
    openbox-themes
other things related to the UI I wanted
The ring 3 test warning still occured on reboot after installing X and the radeon drivers. Again I ignored it. My .xinitrc was simply exec openbox-session
I ran startx and it failed, and got a bunch of errors that began right after a reference to "radeon" and the kernel. My xorg log did not get far at all. In fact the last lines were
(II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0)
(II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card1)
And that was literally the end of the log. This is clearly a GPU/driver issue, probably with the 8970M as card1 seems to be the last line? Any help is appreciated
edit: This is the same process I use to install Debian, and using this exact same kernel (plus the Debian patches) I can start X just fine. my dGPU is unusable with the FOSS drivers through as there is no glamor support in Debian. I get segfaults whenever I launch something with DRI_PRIME=1 after setting the 8970M as the offload provider

Ok I installed fresh and had the same issues as last time. With KMS early start I still have the same problems launching X and I still have the ring 3 test error (it just appears earlier).
There is nothing pure text in /var/log, I don't know if theres a way to use systemd with wgetpaste, so I took a picture that is hopefully not to difficult to read. I tried to sharpen it up a bit in GIMP.
    *see pastebin below*
I also noticed that I get that ring 3 error even when I boot up the Arch installer  via USB. I wonder if I should try an older image with an older kernel?

    Hi -
I was wondering if you solved this problem. I had the exact same issue on Win2K after I installed the Java Portlet Development Kit. Now my Apache JServ does not work.
This is a sample of my error_log:
[Fri Jun 07 10:48:01 2002] [notice] FastCGI: process manager initialized
[Fri Jun 07 10:48:08 2002] [error] OPM:Can not find one alive process

[Fri Jun 07 10:51:22 2002] [warn] OPM: ADM: Process 380 terminated using SIGTERM successfully
I have re-checked my jserv.properties, jserv.conf, zone.properties several times and I can't see the problem. I tried to manually remove the entire PDK and go back to my original state (I saved a copy of all my config files) but it still doesn't work.
Did you find a way to fix this?
    Thanks!!!

  • Please help with a few drivers for z60m after fresh install

I got a bad virus(several actually) that I could not eradicate. I was advised to just wipe and reinstall the OS since it is not under warranty anymore. I could not find the recovery disk, must have been lost inthe last military move could not find a replacement recovery disk at the IBM website so  I went out and bought an xpprof OS thinking it should not be that hard to find any drivers XP does not provide . I had no problems doing that on our acer laptop and a friends HP laptop before so was pretty confident.. Boy was I wrong this has been the reinstall from hell. I reinstalled the audiodrivers from theIBM website but the speakers still don't work. The laptop will not recognize the wireless, even after installing the drivers for that and I can't find anything out about why the dock does not work, I assume there are drivers for that too. I also have 4 ugly yellow question marks that I can't seem to get rid of in device manager.  At this point I am already out the price of XP Prof but I really need this laptop my husband took the acer laptop when he deployed to Afghanistan, only because I was confident I could get this one fully functional.  I see now my self confidence was badly misplaced ,even though I am working on a degree in computer technology this laptop is kicking my tush.
Is there anyone that could help please
    1. help me find why my speakers still dont work even though they are recognized as soundmax in device manager
I found several references to this issue in the forums but there does not seem to be a resolution
    2. help me figure out why my laptop suddenly (after the fresh install)does not know it even has a wireless capability even after numerous attempts at installing the driver(driver seems to install just finebut upon reboot there is still no wireless available
    3. figure out how I can get my dock to work again
the laptop has always worked great til now and all these things were functional before the virus and reinstall of the OS)
    4.  get rid of ugly yellow exclamation points under Other Devices, I am sure they must be important( I am sure at least one or more of them has to do with the wireless)
sorry this is so long Im  just frustrated thanks so much for anyone that can give some guidance on this

    hanaleia, welcome to the forum,
download and install ThinkVantage System Update, it should get the drivers for you. Please ensure you read down the site as you may need to install a patch for XP SP2.
Let us know how you get on.

  • WEB server doesn't start after php5 install failed

    Hi,
Running a PPC G4 with osx server 10.3.9
I tried to install entropy php 5.1.6 on my server but it failed and said it could not complete the install.
After that my web service stopped and I can't turn it on anymore.
    Please HELP !
I can't reinstall the whole OS because I need ton keep my MySQL DB.
    When doing [sudo apachectl start]
    I get the error :
    dyld: /usr/sbin/httpd Undefined symbols:
    _untitled
    /usr/sbin/apachectl: line 193: 850 Trace/BPT trap $HTTPD
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
    Thanks

Just found the answer on Entropy
php5.1.6 from entropy is for 10.4 only apparently
Someone just gave me 5.1.2 and it worked fine after I completely reinstalled my Server...
So remember OSX Server 10.3.9 loves 5.1.2 php package from entropy,
Just install the package of php5 as your php4 module is off and the web service stopped
Then add the module of php5 in your list
Finally turn on web service and ENJOY !

Well first of all this is a public forum, so keep that in mind. The users here generally can not look up your case numbers.
If AppleCare didn't work out for you, I believe your next step is
    iTunes Store Support
    http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
Unfortunately, their case indexing is on a different database, and they will not be able to look up your case number either. However, their support is free, and despite it may take a few bounces of emails back and forth, there is a decent chance they may be able to get a solution.
Or... you can still try to shoot the **** with us here, which is Ok as well. But you'll have to keep in mind we can't look up your case numbers.
By the way, the link for a refund, I think is for the same link I just gave you, so on second though, mabye it's best to just go there.

1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop. <br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />

    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Vista won't start after fresh install of LabVIEW & 4G RAM

Since Vista is such a memory glutton I decided to upgrade my AMD64 box to 4 Gig RAM.  Good idea, no?  Turns out not.  Now Vista won't start.  It locks up at the (lack of) progress bar before the log-in screen.  After much hollerin' and hair pullin' I reinstalled Vista and now it sees 3.25 Gig.  I install updates; everything looks good; I install LabVIEW 8.0 and activate it.  At restart WinDoze Vista won't start.  Now I want to scream.  My Linux (Ubuntu Gutsy) partition runs fine and indicates 3.9 Gig RAM.
What is LabVIEW installing that has caused this?  Does anybody have a place to start looking?
Thank You for reading my rantings
    LabVIEW 8.0.1; WinDoze XP
    aut viam inveniam aut faciam

Well, NI doesn't claim LabVIEW 8.0 is Vista compatible.
If you did the full install, you probably also installed Device Drivers and such. If you used the ones released with 8.0, they are definitely not Vista compatible.  Those device drivers will try to load during Vista bootup.  If you did, you will need to do a clean uninstall following this procedure.  Download the latest drivers from NI's website and see if that fixes your problem.

  • Ohasd not starting after fresh install

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production With the Real Application Clusters and Automatic Storage Management options on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64) 11.0.
After installation all cluster and resources were up, I could log in to database. I have restarted orcl1 node, and after boot the ohasd service is not started. Same is with orcl0 node. When I start manually, the cluster comes up. See below:
    grid@orcl1:~> crsctl check has

Hi everyone, I just installed archlinux on my very old 400Mhz Dell Latitude, but now pacman won't do anything, I can't sync, I can't install anything, ... The install did have some issues, but I'm not sure if that is causing this
    The output from 'pacman -Sy'
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    error: failed to synchronize core:
    error: failed to synchronize extra:
    error: failed to synchronize commutity:
error: failed to synchronize any databases
The pacman log doesn't say anything interesting, the configs look okay. That output is spit out rather quickly too, I'm not sure if it's even trying to use the internet (which is working)
    Can you help me?

  • Hal failing to start after fresh install of gnome

Hello, im fairly new to Arch, and i just got everything working and just installed gnome desktop.
Well i went to go restart HAL  so i could startx and got this error
    EXT3-fs error (device sda3): read_block_bitmap  FAIL
Is there something i should change or get rid of to get hal to start.
When i do /etc/rc,d/hal start i get this
    EXT3-fs error (device sda3) : read_block_bitmap: Cannot read block bitmap - block_group = 14. block_bitmap = 458752
    Any help is much appreciated

This looks like a hardware issue.  Maybe an "fsck" will fix this...

    Any help?
I tried to reinstall dependencies of xorg-server and mesa. And then I even went through with the whole system update which I postponed for a few weeks because of the KDE changes. Sadly even the whole system update didn't help.
Is it possible that any old config files can cause this?
    EDIT:
I tried kernel parameter "nouveau.modeset=0" but it didn't help.

Ok, I guess I solved it by reinstalling xf86-video-nouveau.
Funny business! Why did the upgrade to xorg-server 1.17.1 force me to remove it when it is still needed??
And why does that lead to mysterious error messages and segfault??
I discovered it accidentally when I stumbled upon the fact that the package was still installed on my newer x86-64 Arch installation despite being on xorg-server 1.17.1.

Teamviewer doesn't start after resume from hibernation, what can I do to make it work?
I issued command "teamviewer --daemon start" but no success.

That's probably BIOS bug, have a ask MSI here: http://ocss.msi.com.tw/ They can send you a new BIOS to try.
I supposed that this issue is caused by BIOS bug, and this speculation was confirmed. MSI Support has sent to me link with BIOS version 132, which solves the problem
Under this link you can find this BIOS: http://rapidshare.com/files/127845890/a7395ims.132.zip.html
