Problem with my 21.5 iMac 2011 i can't get it to work

I never had a problem one with my iMac but someone got on there and I am unsure what the heck she did , she was with my brother in my office and apparently according to my brother she was attempting to download something or something but got nervous cause she was aware i didn't want her on my computer so she just shut it down i suppose mid download (maybe a movie? something ) anyway of course the next day I had all sorts of trouble and was told to go to the "utilities' section thing where I could re install snow leopard that was all fine and all but i think perhaps i had already upgraded to mountain lion, i am not entirely certain if that is a fact or not, it has been quite some time since this whole thing took place but i am having a big project coming up and would prefer to use my iMac rather than my MacBook Pro, just because of the screen actually, oh my gosh, anyway i attempted to re install snow leopard as it suggested it seemed to go just fine, the first time i used the computer after doing so things went just fine the next time i tried to use my computer not so much i was instructed once again to attempt to re install then i think i went to that place where you can just erase your hard drive to begin all over again i thought well that sounds like a much better idea i didn't have really anything in there that was important i didn't have it really long enuf so i thought all right i will do this and that was the beginning of the end for me and I think i may have fatally destroyed my iMac which I loved so much, paid so much for and barely even got to work on really, what a shame, the other shame is that I happen to live in Lake Havasu City AZ not always a bad thing but when it comes to having anything to do with an Apple retailer or even anyone who knows very much about Macintosh products, at least as far as I can tell I am totally out of luck, now if things are terrible enuf that the hard drive is destroyed I do have another one that someone was kind enuf to give to me, I am a bit suspicious because of the fact they just gave it to me and I had no idea what questions to ask in order to know whether this is a good one or not i have some questions there but i suppose i can ask them if it turns out that i need to get a new one installed maybe just maybe someone here can help me out and it won't be this horrible ordeal like I have the feeling it may be. I hope you can be patient with me as I have no clue what i am doing but i am good at following directions and will do whatever steps you give me to do to the best of my ability and hopefully together we can fix my iMac, oh i really hope so. Anyway my name is Carly and so hopefully someone will get back to me there thank you so much for your time and consideration in advance i really appreciate it more than you know.

What is wrong with your Mac?  You still haven't told us what the problem is. Is the computer still under warranty or Apple Care?

What do you mean by "wasn't fine".  We can't see your computer so you'll have to describe what your're experiencing in detail without the editorializing.
Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

    Hi, just inserted Micro SD XC card in adaptor in SD reader slot on side of an iMac 2011 21'. Unfortunately the item has gone into slot & cannot remove, any ideas please.

    I Have an IPad Air and want to open some PDFs files which are in a password area on a website.
    I am not sure what the "PDFs files which are in a password area on a website" mean.
    Are the PDFs from your school called "protectedPDF" by Vitrium by any chance?  Or do they use some other third-party technology for DRM (Digital Rights Management)?
    Would you share one of the PDF documents with us?  I have sent you the instructions on how to share a PDF document with us (Adobe).

  • Help! I am having problems printing to HP LaserJet P1006? How can I get it to work?

    Hey All! I have an old iMac that I am having a few issues with getting it to print with my HP LaserJet P1006. It will print from MS Word, but not any other program. Whenever I try to print from any other program (Excel, Preview, Firefox browser) it says that the print job has been stopped, and if I try to restart it  or resend it to the printer, it simply stops it again and I have no idea why. I have already tried all of the basics (restarting my computer, reinstalling the driver, unplugging and restarting the printer, etc) and am at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • TS1741 I am having difficulty connecting my Remote App on iPad to iTunes. It used to work fine, but with latest iTunes and latest Remote, I can't get it to work. iTunes should open a 'pop up' window to add 4 digit code, but nothing happens. Any clues plea

    Would appreciate in connecting Remote App on iPad to iTunes. It used to work find, before iTunes 11.0 - but now pop up window to input  4 digit code does not appear. Any ideas how to prompt window to open on iMac? Remote App works OK, but says that Home Sharing is not Turned On, although it is. Both devices are logged into my profile account.

    You no longer need the 4 digit code in iTunes 11.
    iTunes (10.0.1 or later)
    Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.

    It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.
    If a second-hand iOS device has been 'Activation locked' then only the previous owner - effectively the shop in this case - can unlock it, either by providing you with the account ID and password, or by removing it from his list of devices (as he should have done before selling it) - please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4515
    If you are unable to contact them to do this then I'm afraid you will not be able to use the device - there is no other way of unlocking it at all. Apple cannot unlock it for you.

    There are several possible causes for this problem.
    1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local".
    2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
    3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is due to a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
    4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
    5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.

    Try booting in Safe Mode by holding the the shift key immediately after powering on your system. Safe boot mode will for a directory check of your startup volume, then load only the required kernal extensions (kext files), and deletes some cache files. Once the system boots into Safe Mode you can simply restart the system to see whether the issue has been resolved.
    If you still have the issue try resetting the SMC by shutting down the system and disconnecting the power cord for ~15 seconds, then reconnecting the power cord. Next, reset the parameter RAM (PRAM) by holding down the option-option-P-R keys after powering ON the system. Wait until the iMac restarts twice, then let the system boot normally.

    I have been experiencing the same problem. My mail app won't even open on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. It will show as open, but the app will never actually show up.

However when I close Nunit, the page is back to be normal. The title is returned to the name of website without "not responding". I sure this problem did not happen on Firefox version 26. I just got this problem when firefox upgrading automatically to version 27. Please help me fix this problem because it is very important for my work.     Hi, the work around suggested above should put you in working mode in the meantime. However to help investigate the issue it is possible to analyze what is not loading or taking a long time by analyzing the network traffic or http headers of the Nunit web page.

    The mic on my iPhone4 has just quit also. Similar symptoms to yours in that people I'm talking to hear only static or my voice very faintly. The voice/memo recorder also only really records static.
    It happened suddenly and seemed to get better after a day or two but then went completely after another day.
    I'm returning it to Vodafone New Zealand shortly but will have to wait 5-10 days for a replacement. There are NO Apple accredited means to speed this procedure up in NZ.
    We don't even have a single physical Apple Store where you could walk in and talk to a Genius.

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially. 
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.
