Problem with my 3GS' update, might be carrier related.

So, I recently updated my 3GS to the latest update and all went well, seemingly.
Some, perhaps, important things before I describe what happened(see it as possible sources of discord with my goodwill if you want to):
-Before all this my iPhone worked well with a not-so-old version(think the last update was sometime last year before summer), I had music etc. on the phone and the phone was connected to an iTunes library, no problems.
-My phone was locked to a specific carrier and to use other it seems there was need of some kind of unlocking service
-I had it done, not properly at a store as I might should've, nonetheless it was done and they made some kind of mistake resulting in the deletion of my data, music and all what I had before.
-After the unlock(or whatever it's called) I was able to gain the services of the new carrier despite the mistake(the phone was still functional, it had just gotten an older version than before + all the data deleted. I hadn't connected it to iTunes between summer last year and now, so there was no contact between the phone and iTunes during this period, until just now(two/three days ago).
So,
I connected the phone to iTunes to update the version I was using, a very old one.
First iTunes notified me about the unit not being recognized as the iPhone for this library(something), so,
I'm asked to choose between 'restore old phone'(using back-up I had done before, before summer remember? ) and 'delete and use as new iPhone'.
Now, I'm not sure whether the options was really worded like so, but I tried to reconstruct them as best possible I could from memory(because I'm bad with print screen ), therefore please understand there might be some mistakes here and there..
Either way, I choose the later option and all as well. Then we come to the real issue: I then decided to update and install the newest version of software available for the phone, did so and then the phone was restarted...
Here is the nitty-gritty of it all, the problem~
-I still had the phone connected to iTunes-
and now it was high time for me, to my surprise, to configure the phone from start. I haven't needed to do this when updating before, but for all I know it might just be so with this update. Anyway, first is selection of language, then after that I'm to select region. Then 'Location Services'; two options 'Enable Location Services' or 'disable'. I choose disable, then there's Wi-Fi networks, though you can choose 'next' and connect via iTunes instead, I've tried both and here's what happens:
When using Wi-Fi, which I used first(I disconnected the phone and started the config.), I then click 'next' which takes me to the 'Activating your iPhone', where there's a loading screen, telling me it may take up to three minutes to activate. I wait and get(as seen on screen): Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.
Yeah, my face displays a fairly neutral emotion reacting to this message.. I continue with iTunes: I connect the phone, takes some time for it to either connect or be recognized as a unit, don't know which. Now there's an error message telling me 'There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate' and the suggestion 'Please disconnect and insert a SIM card'.. Now I'm, because there is a SIM card in the blasted phone!
So this is my problem and the question/-s would probably be "Is there something wrong with the SIM card?", "Is it Apple pulling my leg and keeping the server from reaching my computer?", "Am I just missing something because I'm ignorant??" or "Is it related to my carrier?"

    I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.

    I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
    I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
    I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

  • Problems with the windows update site in 32-bit Vista Business

    Hi Everyone,
    I am experiencing problems with the windows update site. As far as I know it shold make a link to the Windows Update module on-board and show the available updates after scanning. However, I get to the page that says "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with this website" and the next page I get is "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view". The error number is 0x80070002. I go to the knowledge base and delete the content of the Data Store folder as advised, but to no use at all. Active X controls are enabled Java is working fine. I've cleaned the register and everything, did a complete scan with Onecare as advised by Microsoft, which did not find anything but again the same error message. I am using KIS 2009 and I am sure I have no viruses or any other malware. I even tried to go to the update site with the KIS switched off but to no avail too. On the other hand I don't have problems with the automtic updates and when I run a manual update from the Update module everything is OK. Do you have any suggestion as to what might be the issue with the website updates?
    P.S. I am using 32-bit Windows Vista Business on a Lenovo W500.

    Well, since you've had the same problem, with three different phones, that all use different size sim cards, it seems pretty obvious the problem is with your carrier/coverage & nothing to do with your phone or sim card.

It is for sure problem is with heating, but 30 degree tempeature in Oman is normal and some time it goes upto 50 degrees. I have noticed this has started after I started using substandard charger as I lost my original charger of the phone. Please help!! Thanx.

    If I change my profile attitudes since that for example, then after a telephone restart again deleted.

    It sounds like your 5800 has the earpiece fault that was common with 5800's made before February.
    You need to take it to a nokia care point for repair under warranty.

    I guess I need to mention that extract failed in 5 minuts before it with: VAM function VAMRead returned unexpected result: error 600 - VAM Client Report <[CFileInfo::Read] Timeout expired after 10 retries with 1000 ms delay, waiting to read transaction log or backup files.     I don't know if it has ther same source as data corruption, could you tell me if it is?
    Well, I created new extract, starting 2012-06-01 15:30 to check if there was something with extract at the time, but got the same error.
    If I run extract beging at 15:52 it starts and works.
    But well, I got another one today. Data didn't look that bad, but yet one column came with null value:( And I'm using it as a key column, so I got Mapping problem with compressed key update record again:(
    I'm replicating from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11g.
    I'm actually using NOCOMPRESSUPDATES in Extract.
    CDC is enabled for all tables replicated. The only thing is that it is enabled not by ADD TRANDATA command, but by SQL Server sys.sp_cdc_enable_table, does it matter?
    Could you please advise why does it happen?

    The SCRP_CODE column has a NOT NULL constraint. The ORA-01407 error is telling you that you cannot update or set a value for this column to null because of the constraint. This has absolutely nothing to do with an index. You can use a marker/sentinel value in lieu of using NULL. For a numeric field, where everything is positive, a negative value (-1) can be decoded as meaning null. For a character field, a code such as NA can represent NULL.
    This also has nothing to do (directly) with GoldenGate failing because of this error. The underlying SQL statement will fail everywhere, regardless of the tool or application. It is not a case of failing only in GoldenGate.

    I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

    Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
    Also try this, copied from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    "No SIM installed" alert (GSM models only)
    Remove the SIM card (micro-SIM on iPhone 4). Insert the SIM eject tool or the end of a small paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray. Press firmly and push it straight in until the tray pops out. See this document for more information.
    Verify the SIM card is not damaged or dirty.
    Reinstall the SIM card.
    Turn the phone off and back on.
    Wait approximately two minutes, then see if iPhone detects the SIM card and if it will register on the network.
    If that doesn't work, try another SIM card, if possible, to see if it is detected.
