Problem with my Macbook not completing software update

When I open software update and search for new updates I get a long list of programs. I select install and then restart my mac. As it shuts down it says that it is configuring the install and moves about 2% across the bar where it stays even if I leave it with power over night and moves no further. Can anyone help with this?

I have to end this and I am dissapointed to not know why! All of a sudden the software updates all installed!
Am drunk now so take this as the rubbish it is! PC's are just fooking wrong and you dont know that you have caused a problem until it has wrecked your computer!
Mac's have the advantage of not working whenever you dont do anything idiotic and telling I am broke why dont I close down and you can restart and I might randomly of fixed myself! Now what I feel to be the major difference between mac's and pc's is that at this point your mac says dont know what happened but your computer seems to work, do you wnat to reboot to a different time and see if that was better? And Pc's had a cunning knack of not telling me anything was wrong and working really slowly until I got bored and brought the hammer to my pc fixing kit!

Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Problem with most recent apple combo software update

So about a month ago I posted here about a problem I'd been having for a while that others seemed to have as well, with safari crashing and for me dashboard as well. Looking at my crash report, I was advised that most likely this was a javascript error and I did an archive install of Leopard and this did fix the problem.
However, of course the Leopard from my install disk was a little old, so today when I did all the updates again, lo and behold, my problem is back. Looking at the date that the last combo update pack came out (mid June) I'm pretty sure this is when my problem started, and now its back again because I know that's one of the updates that I just did on my computer.
So my question is, has anyone else experienced problems with this recent update, and secondly, what can I do? Should I re- archive/install and not do the update, and then just wait until the next combo update? I did the updates in order to get my itunes back in order, but I don't know if it would be detrimental to my other programs to not do this last combo update... And is there anyway I can go into my system and fix this while keeping up the update? Its just strange to me that no one else I know is having this problem, even though they keep up-to-date on all the software updates.

Problem with video after installing ipod software update 1.2

I recently downloaded the ipod software update version 1.2 for my ipod. It seems to have changed the video screen output as some of my videos now do not play full screen and instead have black boarders down each side of the screen while playing.
At first I thought switching off the widescreen option in the video settings screen would fix the problem but doing this cuts off a large portion of the picture at the top and bottom of the screen. I can only assume this change in screen ratio came with the update and was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix this problem or if it will be fixed in the next ipod software update with some kind of option to switch screen ratios in the video settings menu.
I would like to keep updating my ipod but have since reset it so icould get full screen video playback and have been avioding the updates incase it happens again.

I did convert them myself but but not with quicktime pro will this solution still apply if were to purchase QT Pro or should i contact the company i bought my programme from.

Problem with the 4.3.2 software update?

I have a 32GB Ipod touch and recently I have been having what seems to be software problems. I can't use apps without the Ipod skipping back to the main screen, or the recently used apps list popping up from the bottom of the screen. When left on the side it is constantly turning itself on and off which is wasting the battery. At first I just tried getting on with it however am now becoming more and more frustrated, especially when playing games as I get anywhere between 5-60 seconds gameplay before the app shuts down and I'm again faced with the homescreen. I tried turning it on and off, then tried restoring it however I'm still having the problem. Anyone else having the same problem or anyone know how to resolve it? any help would be appreciated as I feel going to the Apple shop could potentially hurt my wallet.

You might be correct on that. One of the people I support had just gone up to 4.3.2 on her iPod Touch and it's doing the exact same thing. I did a full wipe and restored everything it and the battery level went from 50% down to 20% in minutes. It also started taking me back to the main screen while I was in the Settings screen.
I then wiped it again (battery level was back to showing 50%), only this time I set it up as a new device. I configured the Exchange email on it and I could sworn I saw the battery level jump up touch without it being plugged in. I should know by Monday if it's back to normal but I have feeling this is a bug in the OS.
I'm planning on upgrading my iPad tonight but I'm probably going to hold off on my iPhone.

Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.

if it say's download, then it's there for future use if you need to download it again.

Do you have Parallels installed by any chance? There is a known problem that causes symptoms similar to this. You do not need to actually be running Parallels at the time and nothing in ActivityMonitor would point to Parallels. An update corrects the problem:

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. The mail application on my I-Mac dates all mail, whether sent or received, as 5th (of whatever month it is). The computer clock is working, so it's not that. And the time seems to be right. I have no problem with my MacBook. Can anyone help, please?

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over. See if there are duplicates, should be one for Incoming & one for Outgoing.
