Problem with newly built computer
I just built a computer (first time ever) and here are my specs:
350 watt PSU that came with Enermax case (28A@+3.3V, 35A@+5V, 16A@+12V)
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2x512 MB Kingston DDR400
ATI Radeon 9700 pro
When I turn it on, everthing works great...... it runs perfectly. Unfortunately, when I tried to install Windows XP pro, after it formatted my HD and tried to auto-reboot, the screen just went blank. The fans kept running, the DVD drive still looked active, everything looked fine except that nothing showed up on the monitor. In fact, because of this, I thought the monitor might be the problem so I swapped monitors but same thing happened.
I soon discovered that everytime I restart, the screen just goes blank. If I turn off the PSU and then back on and start the computer back up, it works fine again - it's only when I reboot.
BTW, my D-bracket stays at CPU initialization when I try to restart.
Over at http://www.techimo.com a guy suggested that the PSU probably was too weak. Is that the problem, or is my mobo screwed up or something else?
Thanks,
-Robert

As for the error, does it occur on the new computer or the old computer. If it's on the old computer, could it be that the hard drive is beyond the 137GB limit of old BIOSs?
Also, I've come across this when I overclocked to much. I solved it by resetting the CMOS with the jumper. You can look in the manual but its the jumper to the right of your CMOS batter (which is to the right of the 4th PCI slots).
It kind of looks like this:
Pin Pin Pin 3
Pin Pin Pin 2 --->Jumpered (little cap)
|
Pin Pin Pin 1 ---
To reset, physically unplug your power supply and wait a bit (like 5 seconds). Then move the jumper so that it connects pin 2 and 3. Wait 30 seconds. Then put it back to connect pin 1 and 2 (important or your motherboard may break). Voila, CMOS reset.
I was lucky, I just toke my HD from my old computer, putted it n my new config. And yes it worked after installing the additional drivers.

I Just upgraded to mountain lion os x to 10.8.1 and I have a problem with restart my computer.
Now my computer is stuk on restart and wont turn on.
Can somone help me with it?
Thanks. If Mende 1's suggestion doesn't solve it you might find the following useful:
I would first reset the SMC:
Shut down and unplug the Mac.
Keep the Mac unplugged for at least fifteen seconds.
Plug the Mac back in and do not turn it back on for at least five seconds.
Press the power button to turn the Mac back on.
Then I would reset the PRAM by rebooting the iMac while simultaneously holding the Command-Option-P-R keys until the machine restarts a second time.
Hope this helps -

More Problems with my new computer
Well I'm beginning to think this new machine is acting very much like what happened back in 1996-97 when I rebuilt a Packard Bell Legend 1956 only to have the computer croak better than either a frog or my cartoon namesake on "South Park" because the recovery disk didn't recognize the new componentry.
after I thought I revived it with this forum's assistance. after 5 days it started acting up with "turn off computer" icon going AWOL. since I didn't have a backup I went to system restore which promptly froze midway thru the process.
so what I did was to take out my Digital Lifeguard software and try and reconfigure the I:\ drive to a C:\
eventually it said that Windows couldn't start because it needed a pci driver.
so on July 5th a technician showed up & it came back.
now on the 11th when I started it up. & changed the secondary drive to a C:\
so now I figured why not reformat the I:\ & and put XP Pro on the C:\ so my programs won't start a revolt
especially since I only had 1 day left before activation.
Now the computer is in an infinite loop saying that Windows cannot install because the hard drives are not available to install the temp files.
by thw way the chip head was wondering why both of the optical drives were on the master cable & the HD's were on the slave. he also warned me that this computer's configuration was problemaic and I will have errors.
I wanted this type of computer because I wanted to know what was the differences between an OEM & a custom built especially since they recovered quite differently as well.
In retrospect, I think I would've did much better with another OEM because I would've had recovery CD's/DVD's
and for 1 year tech support would've help me thru the transition from the old one to the new.
I've been reading the manual to this motherboard trying to figure out how to not send this computer into orbit along with the shuttle! & wasting $1600. so far nary a clue could be discerned.
the builder says that I shouldn't of tinkered with it and run the computer as he built it but the way I see it 1. If I didn't tinkered I would not be advancing my computing frontiers. 2. I would be a hostage to the builder & that is unacceptable because I would rather try & solve this myself than either pay good money waiting for somebody to fix it.
Thanks yet again
spacechild(Ken Greene)
PS. as far as the registration goes I guess I'm screwed yet again because of no receipt but this reinforces my point about being dependent on somebody else.
I appreciate very much all the efforts you've done for me as far as this computer goes
spacechildTo Maesus, Emperor & Blazer:I have the MSI 925XE Neo Platinum 54g
& I plan to use both of the Hard Drives meaning RAID 0.
and the 11-1 card reader is an ATF Pro 9 model
in addition my Power supply is a 450 watt Xion model with 18 Amps at +12v
if that further helps you.
Last night when I attempted to solve this I got this at the end of the startup process
"Windows XP Professional Setup"
"Windows cannot find the temporary installation files"
"The Hard Drive on which Setup placed temporary files is not currently available to Windows XP.
You may need a manufacturer supplied device driver or you may need to run setup again and select a drive that is compatible with Windows XP for the temporary installation files.
See your Windows XP documentation for more information.
On x86 based computers, floopy disks generated by setup for non CD installations are not suitable for installing from CD
Setup cannot continue. To quit press F3
then a 2nd screen with a red progress meter appears saying that the computer will reboot in 15 seconds then it reboots with the same message going in an infinite loop.
what does this mean?
also I think one of the reasons why I'm having this problem is that not only are the two optical drives are are on the Primary Master & Slave channel
but the BIOS indicates that there are 3 more Master\Slave channels as well and the HD's are on the 3rd one
again I truly appreciate this forum trying to be the Tech support that I'm not getting with the builder.
I'm truly sorry about this as well but at least I'm learning in the same way that I did with the other computers I've had since 1994.

Odd collection of problems with newly purchased used iMac
I have recently purchased a used iMac from eBay (an Intel model from 2006). I've been trying to get it set up over the last couple of days and have had one problem after another. I suspect a hardware problem, but would like to be able to pin it down before I contact the seller and ask them to take (and pay for shipping on) a return.
Here are the symptoms:
The iMac came with OS 10.5 freshly installed. I ran Software Update, which offered to install a combo update to bring it up to 10.5.8. I said yes, and it downloaded the update, restarted to complete the installation, and then hung at the same point for hours during the installation. I finally gave up and shutdown by holding down the power button, then restarted and tried again to run the update through Software Update -- and it hung again. I did a new fresh install of 10.5, and thereafter was able to download and install the update properly.
Afterward, I used the computer for a while without a problem and installed a few applications that I have known to be compatible with both Leopard and Intel Macs in the past. After it finished with the installing, I opened a Safari window and the computer became unresponsive, except that I could move the spinning beach ball around the screen. I left it for ten or fifteen minutes, then tried to force quit, but the force quit dialog box wouldn't come up. I held down the power button to shut down, waited ten seconds, and restarted.
Suspecting bad memory, I installed Applejack and Memtest and used Applejack to run Memtest in single user mode. It found no problems with the memory. (The computer did not come with a disk to check the hardware.)
I restarted, tried to open Safari and found that the cursor was "stuck." I went to check the USB connection for the mouse, when I heard the startup chime and then watched as the iMac rebooted on its own. A screen notice said:
The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple.

The report also showed an unusual screen artifact -- a black line that went across it, but was not on the rest of the screen.
I opened Safari to look up information about kernel panics, and found a similar black line across its window. Later, on a different page, there was a blue line -- and on another page after that, various blue and black lines appeared. I restarted Safari, and it still showed odd lines. Those lines were only on the Safari window, not across the whole screen.
I have very little experience troubleshooting problems of this sort, and I'm hoping someone with more experience can tell me what significance the panic report has and how it might relate to the other problems. Like I said, I expect that I'll need to return this iMac (which I've only had for a couple of days now), but I'd like to have a clearer idea of what's going on before I contact the seller.
Any help would be much appreciated!Safari just unexpectedly quit. I don't know if the report offers useful information, but here it is:

help
Unfortunately I am running in circles as the result is the same.
Thank you for the link but I have already had this page provided to me by my school. Nevertheless, I followed your advise, downloaded the latest version once again and restarted my computer. Again, I am not able to get my computer authorised, with or without an ID. I get either of the two messages : 1) Microsoft tells me there is a problem with my computer. 2) Adobe tells me I have no internet access and in order to proceed I should gain internet access.
That is the reason why I have today purchased an AVG software. I have additionally purchased the service of having the AVG software installed on my computer by an AVG representative remotely by allowing him temporary access to my laptop. Subsequently he installed the software successfully, run all necessary checks, optimised my computer and there are currently no problems with it whatsoever.
I have then asked him for this additional favour to watch me trying to download the e-book using your software, just in case I am doing something incorrectly. He agreed and upon my attempting to download the e-book again, the same problems occurred. He followed the steps himself - again no joy. He then advised me to ask Adobe for help. In his opinion the program Adobe stops responding and there is nothing more he could do to help me. I had his reassurances that my computer is in full working order and the problem does not lie here.
I am back to you asking you for help. I am attaching here photos of the two messages that keeping popping up whenever I try to download the e-book.
Is there anything at all you can do to help me? I quite need this e-book for my exam which is fast approaching. I would be really grateful if you could sort something out...
Thank you in advance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Problem with authorize my computer
Hi I am having problems with the authorization of my computer every time I go to "shop" "authorize computer"and the itunes asks me apple ID and password and I type it and later itunes says that this computer is Allow 1 of 5
but when I go through my applications that I bought in itunes store the itunes says tah my computer is not authorized...
What can I do to pass applicatives to my iPhone?I'm also having the same problem. They started after I replaced a hard disk.
i-tunes wants authorization and gets...tells me the computer is already authorized and refuses to recognize the phone. If I run the sync it cleans out all of the apps from the phone and wont send any to the phone. -

Serious problems with my built in audio?
I have a serious problem... My audio has stopped working! My built in audio is not being recognized. Not even when i plug in my headphones! It's as if my audio dissapeared. I have tried several things; the apple chat workers have given me instructions to help me but none work. I tried reinstalling OS X, i have tried putting my computer in safe mode, I have tried so many things! My audio icon is grey and when i press F11 or F12 (volume keys) it shows a little circle with a line across it as if it was uncapable of turning on the volume. the audio doesn't even work when i turn my computer on! the songs on iTunes don't even start. Maybe it's the battery? Is there anything i can do? Please help me! i would thank you so much.
(P.S: I have a 2009 macbook Air)LicyYoung-Bae
. My audio has stopped working!........Not even when i plug in my headphones!
Have you updated your Air to 10.9.1 yet? (apple Icon top left, 'software update')
This is a resolution for many
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
* this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
Test this and re-verify

F4 BSOD during Windows 7 startup on newly built computer
Hey all!
I just built a new computer yesterday and have not been able to get it up and running. Specs are:
AMD Phenom II X6 10G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 160090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT90ZFBGRBOX
MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
EVGA GeForce GTX460 1 GB Superclocked GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card
Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB 32 MB Cache, 7200 RPM SATA II WD1001FALS
Just upgraded the power supply to a 700w corsair as well; had a 520 and thought it was a power failuer....
So....my issue is that I installed Windows 7x64 and everything looked fine...when I had the chance to install drivers I opted not to becuase I would download the newest once I got windows running. However; I now get a BSOD F4 error everytime right after windows loads and the mouse pointer pops up with a black background.
I've tried both sticks of ram---1 at a time; changed some bios settings for ram down to 1333 and 800 and nothing changed. I haven't updated the bios yet and don't know what version I have but I'll know in a few hours when I'm back home.
Any ideas on where to start with this? I put my old HD in that had windows XP and the same thing happens although I didn't see if it was an F4 error on the BSOD.
Let me know if there is any info left out....any help is much appreciated!
Thanks!!Well looks like I solved the problem....I reinstalled my processor and reinstalled windows 7 and BAM! It's workin like a charm...I even threw the ripjaw ram back in and thats working too I figured it might be my cpu failing since all 4 sticks of ram had errors at the same spot on the memtest.
Thanks for all the help! -
With conversion to Leopard, file problems with networked Windows computer
Last night I did an Archive & Install from Tiger to Leopard on my Intel MacBook Pro. Today, I had trouble finding the other computers at my office. Once I finally got them to show up, I opened a Word file found on another computer, made some changes, and when I tried to save it, I got this message: "This is not a valid file name. Try one or more of the following: *Check the path to make sure it was typed correctly. *Select a file from the list of files and folders." Since this file already existed and I wasn't changing the name, I thought this was odd, but I changed the name from "Seating Chart 3-8-08" to "SeatingChart3-8-08" in case Leopard didn't like spaces when talking to Windows, but I got the same error message. Finally I gave up, not knowing what to do, then discovered that it had in fact saved my file. Still, every time I try to save ANY Word document from the shared folder of the Windows computer, I get the same error message endlessly until I choose "Don't Save."
When I try to open an Excel file from that computer, it won't even open; it says " 'File Name.xls' cannot be accessed. This file may be Read-Only, or you may be trying to access a Read-Only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding." As with the Word file problem above, I did not have any problem accessing the files until I converted to Leopard.
The Windows machine is Windows XP using Microsoft Office 2003; I have Microsoft Office 2004 on my machine.See if this Link, by Pondini, offers any insight to your issue...

Please help. I have a new computer and an ipod nano 7th generation. I am having problems getting my music from Itunes library to my ipod. How do you do it?
Hello Sandy
You can transfer the purchases from your iPhone to your new computer by following the steps in following article.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
If you have music that was not purchased from the iTunes Store, then you will not be able to move it from the iPhone to your computer. Instead you will need to follow the steps in this article that helps with moving the library from the old to the new.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer

Problem with showing My Computer in Bridge
Just upgraded PS CS4 to CS5. When I click on the favorites or the Folders tabs in Bridge and select My Computer, the program displays the drives and then starts adding My Documents over an over without stopping...after 1 minute I had >50 icons for My Computer. It was annoying because it kept displacing the drives to the right as it inserted a new My Doc icon, and I couldn't catch the icon for the other drives to open them!
In Minibridge, it displays just three duplicate My Documents icons???
Anyone have an inkling as to what might be happening here, or how to prevent it?
Many thanks,
AThanks for the help. I was the cache. I tried purging from "Edit -> Camera
Raw Preferences...", and that didn't fix it. Then, I tried deleting the
files manually (I must have missed some), and that didn't work. Finally, I
purged from "Edit -> Preferences -> Cache" and everything works!

Thanks again!
- Jeff

<[email protected]> wrote in message
news:[email protected]..
> Jeff
>
> You should read the part about ACR install on Windows, I Use Mac and can't
> tell you where to put it but it is a very critical install, Not difficult
> but you have the follow the instructions carefully and then it will work.
>
> Bridge 2 has a different cache management with it's own problems, there
> are many treads about that in the Bridge forum. I got my computer less then a month ago and its been working fine until a couple days ago.. the only upgrade i did was right in the beginning and I added a gig of memory. I have been using the computer for internet and gaming.. I have been playing Call of Duty 2 with no problems since I got the computer and I got an error a couple days ago during gameplay which caused everything to quit working including my dock.. I re-installed osx and still the game would not work and kept giving me the same problems.. I called mac.. they helped me delete my drive and re install again... I played the game fine for a few minuts.. and then it gave me the error.. I was able to restart the game and when i zoom in with the scope on the gun.. the picture quality gets really crappy.. Then I tried playing quake 4 and it froze the computer.. I ran the disk utility and it was fine so I ran the hardware tester and it gave me the error... 4MEM/1/40000000: 0x5df44c10 and I have no idea what to do? i'm new to mac so I dont know anything about them.. and I guess the phone lines are not always open.. anyone ever had a similar issue? thanks..
yeah, I grounded it and everything.. it worked fine for a little under a month.. so I don't know what the problem was with it, but its not giving me hardware errors after I took it out.. I bought it online.. so i'm going to have to check and see what the warrenty is on it.. I paid half of what apple charges.. guess you get what you pay for lol.

Filesharing problem with one specific computer
I have several macs on a network; all have filesharing and appletalk active, and all are communicating via either wired or airport extreme. I have one wayward system and I can't seem to figure out, though. I have a MBP Core2Duo machine that is visible on the network, but whenever I attempt to log onto the system, I never succeeds. Though the computer itself is visible on the network, it won't access the shared files, public file, or anything else.
Are there any preference files that I can delete, or anything that I could reinstall that could be the problem here? All are running Leopard with most current updates.
Thanks!
ChrisI have been able to play the CD in all the other players around the house including the media player in my older computer(ME / OS.) The OS CD player in the computer I use for my iTunes library recognizes the disk as well. iTunes previously imported this disk at least twice. I removed those copies and re-entered the disk a third time. The reason for the multiple entries was info mistakes and a few glitches learning how to set up the external storage.
There is nothing wrong with the disk, it is not a burned disk and has not been exposed to anything that would alter the info on it.
The problem is iTunes software related, perhaps the previous files are still lurking somewhere that I'm unable to access and this prevents the disk from being copied yet again.
