Problem with Nvidia driver

Hello all, I've got a Mac Pro with 4GB RAM and running the latest copy of Tiger. I am using Parallels with Vista build 5728 (post-RC1) in a VM. When I have Parallels and the World of Warcraft client running at the same time (regardless of which I load first), I get a kernel panic. Now I've already talked to Parallels and Blizzard support, and they both point the finger at Apple. Now I really wish somebody would help me. This whole 'not my problem!' rubbish from the various involved parties is really starting to make me mad. Below is the log information:

I'm revisiting this over a month later. As I've posted elsewhere, I encounter the kernel panics simply when I'm running World of Warcraft. I've removed Parallels from my machine entirely for the moment. What angers me is that I've spent $4500 on this Mac Pro, and Apple and Nvidia seem to be doing nothing to resolve the problem in a timely fashion. If Nvidia had lousy drivers that weren't tested to be fully 64-bit compliant, why did Apple decide to ship the MP with a bloddy rotten video card with bloody rotten drivers? I'm at my wit's end...my machine has 4GB of RAM, however the only way I don't get panics is to disable half of that. So 2GB are essentially sitting there useless. It's not like I purchased a $300 throw-away weekend special from Dell -- for the money I spent on this hardware, I expect commensurate support.

  • Problem with nvidia driver, causing system to be unusable

Hello, I've got a problem I assume with nvidia driver. My graphics card is gtx 460, here's my usual glxgears output:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16474487/noerror.png
After random amount of time (usually from 30 mins to ~2hours) something 'breaks' and here's what happens:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16474487/error.png
I've tried different desktop environments, under xfce4 it also breaks, i've been testing also nvidia-beta and nvidia-all drivers, but it won't help. After 'breaking' i must restart nvidia module, then all again is working fine.

Hey Vazz, there is a problem with the nvidia linux drivers/gtx460 hardware, but sadly it only affects a small population.
There is a thread on the nvidia support forums with many others having more or less the same problems.
Still no response from nvidia yet...  In the meantime use nouveau.

  • W510 problems with Nvidia driver recovery under Windows 7 (64 bit)?

Lenovo W510, Nvidia Qudardo FX 880M video, FHD:
What I'm seeing on occasion is a Windows 7 (64-bit) recovery, screen blanks out, goes 2-3 seconds, then recovers, things go back to normal, but a message displays saying that an error was detected in the video driver, and it has recovered. The new Firefox (4.0.1) seems to be one of the things that may be a contribution, hard to tell.  Per System Update at least, I'm current on the Lenovo downloads. SIW shows the driver level as 8.17.12.5738 (2010-06-27). Nvidia web-site shows their current driver level on the wen-site as 270.61 (2011-04-18), which is a considerably newer date at least. So two questions:
Has anyone else seen Driver/Recovery issues on Win 7 (64)
Has anyone directly run the Nvidia video drivers and had them run OK?
Seems like it would be nice for Lenovo to update their drivers, if indeed this is a driver issue, they appear back-level.

I used to have this problem with my W510 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, especially Firefox 4 crashing the Nvidia display driver almost constantly. I googled and found that this is a known problem between older Nvidia driver and Firefox 4. Later on I downloaded the latest version of Nvidia driver from Lenovo website (it was not posted on the System Update server yet but was available on the regular download site). I clean-installed it (i.e., removing all files and settings created by the old driver) and I haven't experienced the problem since then.

    Hi,
I installed nvidia driver with guide on arch wiki.
But unluckily when i typed "startx", my monitor lost signal and i dont have any other option then restart computer.
This is not for the first time when it happened. I have exactly same problem in every other distribution.
I have GeForce 8800gts and LCD monitor Samsung SyncMaster 204b.
And there isnt problem with hardware because in MS Windows or with VESA driver it works fine.
    Here is mine Xorg.conf

Please, have somebody any ideas how to make it works?

  • Games no longer run, problem with nvidia driver?

Any game like Enemy Territory or Alien Arena no longer works.  When I try to start them, I get the error
    loading libGL.so.1: QGL_Init: dlopen libGL.so.1 failed: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: undefined symbol: _nv000008gl
I tried reinstalling the nvidia driver and nvidia-utils but it didn't help.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  If it matters, my card is an nVidia 7600.
    Thanks!
e:  Tried installing nvidia-beta and nvidia-utils-beta and that didn't work, but installing the latest driver from nVidia's website worked.  Should I be concerned about dependency issues though, since I didn't install it through Pacman?

Looking at http://www.shatters.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10047 I will make an educated guess:
You installed Nvidia's driver, and let it overwrite mesa's headers. Take a look at my rant if you want background info.
So, re-install mesa-lib, or "mesa", or whatever it's called in your distro.
Any packages that you recompiled yourself? Recompile them again, after re-installing mesa.

  • [SOLVED] Problem with nvidia driver install/uninstall

A while ago I installed the 177.70 driver from nvidia's site, then I was trying to install the 177.80 and to remove the .70 first, I tried
    sh NVIDIA-filename.177.70.run --uninstall
And the installer told me no nvidia driver was found. I haven't been able to install a newer driver since every time I tried X would give me a driver mismatch error on start-up. I am hesitant to manually remove any files, how would I fully get rid of 177.70 so I can install a newer one??
    TIA

See script for the command you should be running:
    sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.11-pkg1.run -a -q -s -N --no-opengl-headers
Assuming you're on 32-bit. To let Nvidia's installer sort out your mess.

  • Problem with nvidia driver 180.29

For some reason nvidia driver 180.29 does not work well for me, even though 180.22 works just fine.  Glxinfo says that direct rendering is enabled, nvidia and all appropriate modules are loaded, but glxgears gives me about 3 fps!  I tested various games as well-- they start  up fine, sound works, but I get about 1/10 FPS!
The chip is an agp 512m 7600gt.  Again, when I download nvidia and nvidia-utils to 180.22, everything works great.

    anyone?

  • [Solved] Problem with Nvidia driver

I recently installed arch on my desktop for the first time, after running arch on my laptop for a few months. The initial install worked fine and I was able to boot normally. However, I then installed a number of packages (including nvidia and nvidia-utils since I have a GTX480) to try and get a graphical desktop up and rebooted. The system started to boot normally, but after ":: Loading keymap...done." the screen went blank, And it stayed that way. It wasn't trying to load X or anything, the screen went blank trying to bring up a commandline. I eventually booted into the installer, and chrooted into my new install and removed nvidia and nvidia-utils. On reboot it worked, so my conclusion is that the nvidia module must be causing the display problems. Any ideas on what is going wrong? I know there is noveau, but I need to use CUDA, so I assume that nvidia is my only option.

Many kernel modules for graphics cards kick in for the console regardless of whether X is involved. This enables native resolution during boot etc.
For example, with intel integrated graphics, I get to a certain point in the boot and the display disappears for a second before returning. Before it disappears, the resolution is much lower than native (640x480? not sure). After it reappears, it is native (1366x768). This happened long before I got around to installing X. I think it is the point when the i915 module is loaded. (It's possible to load it earlier to get native resolution throughout but I haven't done this yet.)
I see the same thing with the nouveau driver on another machine. Once I got nouveau to load at all, it affected the display pre-X.
For many graphics modules this must happen automatically because they're included with the kernel package. As I understand it, installing nvidia involves installing (at least) a kernel module *and* the video drivers for X. So installing it changes things which have nothing to do with X.
Can nvidia load if you pass nomodeset on the kernel command line? If not, you could at least avoid having to uninstall and reinstall. If so, it might enable you to boot even if it does load and, again, at least avoid having to keep reinstalling or chrooting. You might also be able to temporarily blacklist nvidia.

  • FYI: MS-7125 BIOS has problem with Hard Drives withNative Command Queuing (NCQ)

For those the have messed my two treads on which both ended up being cause by K8N Neo4 BIOS problem with HD's with NCQ.
Will wonders never cease? MSI Support finally conceded the BIOS has a problem with Hard Drives with NCQ and they have forwarded the problem to their programming department.
However, do not look for any results for above two weeks.
    Roger

The problem that this thread has been trying to follow is the incapability of the nVidia RAID Controller with Serial ATA Type 2.5 drives.  I know the threads has been hard to follow and part of that is because when I started the thread I had what appeared to be three totally un related problems, but all three were traced down the common problem of the incapability of RAID Controller with Serial ATA Type 2.5 drives.
The title of this thread is MS-7125 BIOS has problem with Hard Drives with Native Command Queuing(NCQ).  The statement was true at the time it was written and has nothing to do with memory problems.
Sense the thread was started MSI has fixed the BIOS part of the problem, but we have sense learned the nVidia RAID Controller Command software and its driver has problems too.  I have been working MSI Support, they have been using me to test pre-beta BIOS and Drivers soon.   Of the testing I have done the pre-beta BIOS worked and the Pre-beta 32-bit driver works.  I am assuming that the latest BIOS V1.B had as part of it included fixes was the needed fixes for working with the nVidia RAID Controller as I have test the pre-beta RAID Driver with BIOS Version V1.B as the Raid array function fine windows XP Pro 32-bit Edition.  As I have had no communications with MSI support of over a week now I am hoping for a release of 32-bit and 64-bit RAID Drivers.   But, nobody should get the hopes up, because through other backdoor sources nVidia is having a hell of a time.  One reason for this I heard is that the nVidia RAID Controller is fully software, no hardware other than the electrical drive interfaces.  Their problem started when they tried using the old 32-bit code Controller with new 64-bit hardware drivers and now they are having to totally rewrite the controller core in 64-bit code.  But, knowing my source, it may all be fiction.
The RAID Array you say is up and running, are the drives full specification SATA 2.5 in other words do the both have 3Gb/s speed and NCQ.  If you send me the full part numbers I will check the specifications a get back to you.  Because if you have nVidia RAID 0 Array you working you will be the first to have done it and there about 230 people around the world that would like to know how you did it, even MSI, who's pre-beta nVidia RAID Drivers that will work with BIOS V1.B for 32-bit Windows only and nothing for Windows XP 64, would like to know.

  • Ipod nano not showing up in itunes and getting message about problem with this drive, ipod nano not showing up in itunes and getting message about problem with this drive

My ipod nano has been working fine for at least three years.  All of a sudden I get two messages.  First, "there is a problem with this drive, scan and fix it".
And, an Ipod has been detected but can't be identified properly.  It's a 6th generation nano and I have Windows 8.  Any thoughts?

    Hello, oakbay.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

  • Suddenly my nano (6th gen) can't be detected and windows 8.1 says there is a problem with the drive, but it can't be fixed

I've had this for sometime and this laptop for about 1 year. Never saw this before, but haven't tryed to line up with ITunes for a while. I get a notice from windows that there is a problem with the drive and it asks it i want to fix it. Nothing happens if i try, so I have not persued that avenue. ITunes says a IPod is detected but the identification cannot be verified. Whats up with that?
    Thanks

When I connect my nano to my computer I receive the following message: There is a problem with this drive. Scan the drive now and fix it.
In addition, when I connect my nano, my computer does recognize but the library and playlists in my Itunes is not the same as the library/playlists on my ipod (on this ipod). If I purchase new songs from itunes, they go to the library on the computer but I cant get them to the ipod playlist.
