Problem with OfficeJet J4580

It suddenly stopped working and is displaying the following error messge:
"Printer Cartridge Problem: (Tri-color) Refer to deivce documentation to troubleshoot". I can find nothing about this error message in any online or offline documentation. I have tried turning off and unplugging the device and taking out and re-installing the color print cartridge. Nothing has helped. Can anyone offfer some advice on correcting this problem?
Thanks.

Ok, I am having the problem too...has anyone found a solution yet?  My printer was working fine this morning; now it is giving me the same error message "Printer Cartridge Problem: (Tri-color) Refer to deivce documentation to troubleshoot"

  • Problems with officejet pro 8100 and Lion?

I just bought a new HP Officejet Pro 8100 Wireless and I have not been able to get it to work correctly.  It's hooked up and all the software seems to work but it prints very, very slowly.  It takes about 2 minutes to print a color page.  Is there some known problem with OJPRO8100s and Macs with OS X Lion on them?  I downloaded v12.14.0 of the printer package from HP, uninstalled what came with the printer, and installed the latest and greatest.  Didn't make a bit of difference.

  • Printer problems with Officejet Pro 8500 A910

    Dear all,
I have been given as a present an Officejet Pro 8500 A910 (serie number CN16LDM020 and product number CM756A). The people whom I have got it from already had some problems with the printer heads. I have accepted the printer, because I want to have it working again. I do encounter some problems however. I hope you kind people on the forum can help me out and get this thing working again. As a side note: I am only interested in using the scanner, printer (only black and white - I do not print in colour) and e-printing (I understand that it is possible to email documents to printer, so that they are printed whilst you are somewhere else).
Upon installation I have conneted the internet to my wi-fi. Upon installation it made some test prints, whereby the black dots were good, but the cyan and other colours were not. When I now turn off the installed printer and switch it on again it takes the printer about 5 - 7 minutes to initialize. On the touch screen of the printer it is said "Checking printer, this might take 5 minutes", "Checking printheads", "Aligning printheads" and alike notifications. After 5 - 7 minutes the printer gives the following notification: " Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details." When I then push the question mark on the touch screen the following notidication is given: " Alignment failed. Check printer quality of the current print job. If it is not satisfactory, try aligning the printer to see if that improves the quality. To align the printhead again, touch (home), touch (arrow right), touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead." When I follow these instructions, the same thing happens. I have tried the option "Clean printheads" under "Tools". The test prints that come out are again good in black and white and not good in colour.
The ink level of the cartridges is very low for Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. For Black the printer gives a question mark. The expiry date of the cartridges is in 2015. The information on the Self Test Diagnostic Page (you get when you print a report from checking the ink cartridges) gives the following status:
    Printhead status
Printhead health: Good (for both Black/Yellow and Magenta/Cyan)
    Serial: 7735960 (Black/Yellow) and 7744345 (Magenta/Cyan)
    End of warranty: mid-2013
Accumulated ink usage (ml): Black 99/Yellow 71, Magenta 57/Cyan 58
    Refilled supply:
Detected in printhead/printer? For all cartidges "yes".
When I try to print a document from Word on my MacBook (which runs on Mac OS X 10.6.8) and the printer is on stand-by, Word recognizes the printer, starts with the print order but then comes with the notifications "Printer offline" and "Cannot find printer" and postpones the print order. Today I reset the printer and the print job that I had before the reset (which was postponed) came out.
Today, I printed a document whilst the printer was not on stand-by (the touch screen was on home menu) and the print was well (it was only black and white). After the print, the printer also made a print report. Again, the colour was bad, but black ink was good. After that print report, the printer started aligning again. After 5 minutes it gave the above-mentioned failure notice (" Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details.").
I would assume that the first thing that I should do is get new cartridges. However, since I only print black and white, can't I just buy the Black Ink and disable the other cartridges? Then, I am thinking of not buying HP cartridges (since the warranty term is already over). What cartridges do you reccomend (price-quality)? If  new cartridges are installed (previous owner had same problems with full cartridges) and the problems (with print heads) are not solved, what should I do?
On a second note, I want to use the option of printing online. In other words, give a print order on my Iphone to the printer so that it starts printing at home. How do I set this up? How can I test this?
I would be very obliged with your feedback on the above.
    Kind regards,
    Onno

    Hey Onno,
I see you have several items listed about your Officejet Pro 8500a (A910 series) printer.  The main issue that stands out is the print quality issue.  I would advise starting here with your printer.
From your information I can see that refill or remanufacture cartridges have been used in this printer at some point.  It is possible that the ink from these cartridges have damaged the internal ink system of the printer.  If you have performed all the troubleshooting steps for the print quality issue you are experiencing, then the next step is going to be replacing the printheads of the unit.
    Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues
The 8500a requires all cartridges be available even if you are simply printing in B&W.  If the cartridges are low, then you will have to replace the cartridges as needed.  Typically by the design of this printer, however, print quality issues do not follow ink levels in the cartridges as ink is piped to the internal printheads, thus even with empty cartridges there is some ink remaining in the system.
The printheads for the 8500a can be found at most HP certified retailers if you decide to attempt replacing them as a step towards resolving the issue.  As to the cartridges, I would advise using genuine HP cartridges as HP ink is designed with HP printers in mind.  For information about refilled/remanufactured cartridges please click here.
Hope this helps in getting the print quality issue alleviated,
    Jason

  • Installation big problem with Officejet 8500

    My problem is the following:
I have a LAN on which are connected 2 PC's with XP, 1 PC with Vista and one with Windows 2000. I want to install a printer on the router using TCP/IP and cable.
The installation of the Officejet 8500 was without problem on the XT machines.
It went well on the Vista machine. Then it lost the printer. I had to go back to the pre-installation stage and do it again. Now it seems OK.
The problem is on Windows 2000. The installation process goes up to the point where the printer is found and the IP address and printer ID correct.
Then the sofware tries to configure the printer and it fails (the printer configuration has failed). I have tried again a lot of time without success.
The only way out is to proceed with installation and try to establish the connection to the printer later. I tried it also, without success.
The contacted HP support seems to be lost with the problem.
    Can somebody help me?
    Many thanks,

When you say that after half an hour it told you that you "could not" do you mean that the install process never began (no "installing..." progress bar) or that it did start but subsequently quit, reporting failure?
If the first, try booting from your G4's Tiger install disk & running its copy of Disk Utility -- don't do an install but instead choose that application from the "Utilities" menu of the installer application. Perform both the disk repair (first) & then permissions repair. Quit Disk Utility, choose the Startup Disk utility (from the same menu), select your G4's drive & restart.
If the second, your Tiger OS has been compromised with some (but not all) the Leopard components, which is why startup hangs. For this, start off as above but just run the disk repair from the Tiger installer disk, then perform an Archive & Install from its installer. This should restore the Tiger OS to a functional state, but you will have to reapply any OS 10.4 updates released after the release date of the Tiger installer disk. A good way to save time with that is by downloading the latest combo updater (10.4.11) & applying it.
In either case, it is a good idea to backup your home folder(s) from your G4 to prevent data loss should anything go wrong. Target disk mode, as already described, is a good way to access the G4's contents even if you can't boot it into an OS.

  • Problem with Officejet Pro 8600 wireless printing

HP Officejet Pro 8600 will no longer print wirelessly from laptop, but will from IPad and Android phone using Samsung and Google Print. Used to work fine. Unaware of any changes to settings in either printer or computer setup. Have gone thru all trouble shooting steps including rebooting computer, router, and printer. Computer is connected to internet and bluetooth is on and working. Computer finds the printer but says it's offline.  Printer settings say printer wireless is on and is connected to network but wireless light will not illuminate.
As you can tell, I'm no expert. Experienced user, but not in wireless issues. Computer is Windows 8.1. I've read all the support info on this problem on the HP website and taken as many steps as looked appropriate (or I understood). Everything so far looks nominal except for the wireless light on the printer.
    Any thoughts?

Well, I finally got it to work by resetting and rebooting everything, starting with the modem/router, then laptop, I-Pad, and Android phone. Wireless light on the printer doesn't seem to be an issue. My Att DSL line is spotty at best, giving the modem not much to work with. The interaction of all the elements is complex given the demands I put on them. I'm 75 and have owned so many computers and peripherals since 1982 that I've lost count of them. But they haven't gotten easier to work with. I should have taken training as a network administrator rather than real estate!

  • Wireless Problems with Officejet j6480

Hello, hope somebody can help me. I have an Officejet j6480 All-in-one, which was working fine until recently when I switched to a new laptop using Windows 7. l got the printer part installed just fine, but the scanner wouldn't work(windows couldn't locate anything more than the printer, apparently), and downloading the drivers didn't help at all, as they wouldn't install. Now, for some reason, it won't even connect to the network, so it won't even print. It manages to find the network with no problem, but won't actually connect. It's not a very old printer, either. I have no idea what's going on or how to go about fixing this. I'm hoping I've just made some stupid mistake that can be easily fixed.
    Any ideas?

What router brand/model?  What kind of encryption (WEP, WPA, etc)?

  • Print quality problem with Officejet Pro K5400

I purchased the above printer on August 8th of this year and I have really liked it until now. The print quality has gone to ----! I have done a chat with a technician, replaced any of the cartridges that might be low and it is worse than ever. Two thirds of the page will print  okay and then the last third is either blank or very poor quality. I have tried changing the print quality from draft to best and it doesn't help. What  recourse do I have? I can't find a real person to talk to.
Does anyone out there have an answer?

I purchased my Pro K5400 in May 2008.  In the beginning it was loud (still is) but the printing was beautiful.  Over the last three months the color printing is really bad.  I've replaced the cartridges with only HP ink, I've aligned printheads, I've cleaned printheads, I've calibrated the linefeed.  The diagnostic suggests I replace the printheads.  Really?  After less than a year?  It also sporadically feeds several pages at once.  And, I do a lot of printing of claim forms, it arbitrarily expands the left margin.  Oh, it also jams often.  Again, I believe these last two are due to a feeding problem.  I sent an online question and got answers back in somewhat broken English that seem hooked on just replacing the ink and cleaning the printheads.  Also, they gave me directions on how to clear a jam.  This I know as I clear jams all the time in this printer.  They are unable (perhaps due to language barrier) to answer the feeding/jamming problems.  I really see this as just a very bad quality printer.  I've owned other HPs and never had problems like this.  What is the best way to contact someone in the United States about this printer?

  • Printing problem with officejet l7650

Hi, when i print in Word, the last line is not complete. The print mist the alf of the line, just the upper of the line appear.
I upload the new driver, i print without spool etc.. the problem is the same.
    Please help me!!

Have you tried printing with another word processor to see if the print problem is with Word or something else? You can print Word documents with the free program Openoffice, which you can download from download.com or Openoffice.org
If you find the problem is with Word, Try uninstalling and reinstalling Word. First, you may want to download the free utilities Glary Registry Repair & Glary Utilities. Run both of them, reboot Windows and try a document. If that does not help, then do the uninstall, reinstall. That is easier than trying to run down the exact problem in your Word settings.

  • Printing Problem with HP J4580 in Windows 7

    Hi there,
I have an HP J4580 printer (it's an all-in-one machine). I had Windows XP and everything worked great.
Last week I installed Windows 7 (Home Premium) and since then the printer acts very weird - once I print something it start printing, can be one line, two lines, half a page but at some point it pauses.
The printer says "Printing..." but nothing happens. It takes about 4-5 minutes until the printer starts working again and prints another line (sometimes even not an entire line) and then pauses again.
I tried to install the Full driver pack and it didn't help. I also tried changing the USB slot, restart the computer, turn the printer off and on.... nothing.
So the situation now is that I can't print at all.
Is it a known issue? is there a fix/workaround?
    Thanks,
    Shay.

    Hi Shay,
Have you tried uninstalling the driver and then re-installing this driver from the following link click here.

  • Problem with Officejet 7310 occassionally not printing pictures

When I try to print something, a window pops up stating "Document Failed to Print", yet the document does print, but occassionally leaves a blank space where a picture or graphic should be. I've tried uninstalling & re-installint the printer software, running diagnostics, ect., but it still pops up the "Document Failed to print" window. It doesn't always fail to print the pictures, just occassionally.

What program are you printing from? What operating system?

Windows 7, setting up my 6700 wirelessly.  If I have my printer connected directly to my Vonage device, no problems setting up FAX.  If I then connect an extension phone to the second connection (2-EXT), it no longer works.  I get a message indicating I am using the wrong phone cord (although I am using the HP provided phone cord).

  • Paper feed problem with OfficeJet CL7680

The paper feed roller does not drop to pickup the paper and then I get a load paper message.  I have tried resetting the default by unplugging and holding down the OK and cancel button as I turn on the machine but the problem persists.  I took the  machine into my local copy machine repairman who has worked on HP printers before and his analysis was the same as mine.  He basically said this is a "throw away" machine, go out a buy a new one.  Other than the paper feed roller not dropping down, the machine works perfectly and I would rather repair if if possible that spend the money for a new one that I have no confidence in.

    Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having problems printing.
Are you using the AirPrint or ePrint functions? Is the phone able to see the printer?
Some things to check would be that both the printer and phone are still connected to the same wifi network and that there have been no wifi password changes.
