Problem with opening cs4 document in cs5.5

I have quite a big document of a catalog, created in InDesign cs4. It contains many layers and different master pages. When I open this document in cs5.5 layers and master pages get completely confused and the document looks completely different. When I created the inx-file in cs4 and opened it in cs3 everything was alright. Does anybody know what the problem in cs5.5 could the problem? Am I doing sth wrong?

I don't know why it is happening (perhaps a bug, and maybe John would like to take a look at this, too), but it looks like the Paper-filled rectangle from Hinweise layer on the right of Master Ee is being copied to the left half of the actual document spreads on random layers. The pages that seem to be blank are easy to spot in the Page panel (22, 24, 26 & 32) and you can simply Cmd-Shift click on the rectangles on those pages to override and your text and graphics will be revealed. I'm not immediately picking up any other problems scanning quickly through the pages. For a quick and dirty get it done solution, I think this will work, though I would use the .inx file rather than the .indd for the conversion in CS5.5.

This started out in 2007 in CS2 and has gone through updates in CS3 and CS4, and been recovered from crashes at least 4 times (which might have something to do with the strangeness). I also think there are a lot of extraneous unused frames on many of the pages. If it were my project, I'd probably clean it up as much as possible in CS4, even going as far as recreating the master pages in a new document and then going page by page and doing a copy/paste in place of all non-master objects into the new file if you don't want to spend the time to place everythign again from scratch, which in my opinion would be a better idea (I tried moving the pages to a new file, but that didn't make any difference in the CS5.5 conversion). You could also rebuild from Scratch in CS5.5.

Problem with opening Archivelink document because of wrong MIME type

In transaction OAD2 we have a document type FAX which is currently connected to MIME-type application/pdf. This works fine for opening documents having document class FAX and are actuallty a PDF. However, in the past this document type FAX has also been used to store documents, which refer to a MIME type 'image/tiff'.
When opening FAX-documents that are actually a PDF-file, this currently works fine. When trying to view these FAX-documents that are actually a TIFF-file, it won't be shown in e.g. SAP Document Viewer, because the extention is unknown. You you have to save the file locally in order to be able to see it.
Is there a solution to look to the actual document type when opening a document via ArchiveLink, instead of looking to the ArchiveLink document type?

Problem with opening re-install of CS5 Design Premium on Mac.

I am trying to open component programs of CS5 Design Premium in Mac OS10.7.5 after re-installing CS5 on my MBP late 2008. I receive the following message:

I have restarted the computer and still get the same message. I have tried to "reset" permissions for the SLStore and Adobe PCD folders, as recommended in support, to no avail. What is the solution?

Problems with opening CS3 doc in CS5 (stroke added, etc.)

After importing documents to CS5 from CS3 I find that I have strokes in the text frames (some of them at least) and the page numbers lack kerning.

No stroke exists in the text frames belonging to the master pages, nor did reapplying the master page spread change the stroke to zero.

Yes, I only opened it in CS5. This problem did not exist in CS3.It is not constant against all files and all pages.

Problem with open Word Documents and Quark Documents

Hi,
I am getting a strange problem with OS X Server 10.4.6, running on a G4 Xserve 1Ghz.
When working on files in Microsoft Word X and 2004 after having the file open for a few minutes if you try and save we get an error "Word failed reading from this file", or "Bad network connection".
Also in Quark 6.52 and Quark 6.1 when trying to save a file to the server we get "File not found [-43]". It is possible to open files, and it is also possible to move files onto the share using finder without any problems. To work on documents we are having to work on them locally on the desktop then copy across once done.
The only thing that i can think has changed is the power went off last night, which casued the Xserve to restart. These problems are occuring across all client computers so i am assuming it can only be a problem with the server.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be, or any tests that i can do to detmine what is up with it

Hi David,
I have just tried power-cycling the switches, still getting the same problem.
I will run disk utility on the shares at lunch. I don't think this will help as it is happening on both data drives.
I have now also updated the OS X server to 10.4.7, and have turned the access log and error log on, it is showing no errors in the error log, and i can't see anything in the access log that looks out of the ordinary.
With Quark i can replicate the same problem every time by creating a new project, saving it, altering it and saving it again (this works), then if i alter it again and try and save it comes up with "Duplicate File Name [-48]". It is also not deleting the temporary files, for example "QXP-1055966280.qxp".

Problems with opening keynote documents...corrupted?

I am using the latest Keynote and Yosemite.
Twice now I have gotten the message "Document cannot be reverted" . The file closes and I cannot reopen it. It seems to be corrupted.
What could be causing this?

This message is displayed when opening a Keynote file with a version that is older than the version that created it:
e.g. created in Keynote 6.5 and trying to open with 6.2
Right click the file > Get Info select Open With; in the Open With drop down menu select Keynote 6.5
Then click; Change All

Hallo,
we have a specialized problem with opening indesign-documents over network. Our users works with windows-pc (windows7) and adobe CS5 and CS6 and they will use there documents which are on our macserver 4.0 which works on OS X 10.10.2.
Sometimes the usurers become this Message
Wouldn't work indesign proberly on windows with documents which are on a macserver?

@Naga Sai J – you cannot open an InDesign CS4 file in the previous version.
But you can export an exchange file format for InDesign CS3.
Go to File/Export and chose INX for export: "InDesign CS3 Interchange-Format (INX)"
That .inx file could be opened with InDesign CS3.
After opening the .inx file, examine it well!
Some things might have changed (things regarding to newer or changed features from InDesign CS4).

Problem with opening a indd file in CC 2014.

When I'm trying to open a 5.5 .indd-file in CC 2014 on my Windows computer, I get this error message: 'Either the file does not exist or you do not have permission to open it or the file is used by another program'. However my collague has no problem with opening the document on his Mac computer. I guess it has something to do with a kind of setting in my CC 2014. Can anyone help me?

Nothing to do with ID. It really means what it says - your file permissions are hosed and it being an ID file this could include things like fonts or placed images referenced within it.

Problem with opening a Numbers document

I have a problem with a Numbers document, which I created 3 weeks ago and step by step extended with additional functionality. I'm not anymore able to open the document. I can rename the document and maybe - I didn't try - delete the document. But when I'm clicking on the file's icon, the error message appears "Tabelle kann nicht geöffnet werden". It seems that the file is defect but how I it be revived. What steps I have to do to re-open the document?

Frustrating problem: Help with add file name problem with Photoshop CS4. What happens is this. When I am in PS CS4 or CS3 and run the following script it runs fine. When I am in Bridge and go to tools/photoshop/batch and run the same script it runs until it wants interaction with preference.rulerunits. How do I get it to quit doing this so I can run in batch mode? Any help is appreciated. HLower

Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
Fatal error - missing component
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.

Did you use Apple's migration tool? It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.

Don’t know if Reader has this, too, but in Acrobat one can check under Document Properties.
I can convert and place the file in Photoshop CS6.
I would recommend trying the usual trouble-shooting routines and if nothing helps un-installing, running the Cleaner and re-installing Photoshop. (After making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved to s secure location.)

CS4 document in CS5: Text is underlayed yellow

Hi,
when opening a CS4 document in CS5, some text is now underlayed yellow. Strangely, almost always just headings and not all words or even letters.
Can anyone tell me what this means and which settings are responsible for this?

Just found the answer to my own question, and a resulting new question.
Preferences > Composition tab was a good tip.
If the "replace glyphs" box is checked AND the text uses CAPITAL LETTERS, either through a paragraph or character format or using the All Caps icon in the tool bar, the text is underlayed yellow. Sometimes all letters of all words, sometimes all letters except the first letter of a word...
Also, some combinations of letters in regular "Body" text are also underlayed yellow, e.g. letter combination "fi" or "fl" anywhere in a word. Changing the font does not make any difference.
This seems to me quite strange behavior... What is it supposed to mean? Are CAPITAL LETTERS or letters like "fi" or "fl"now glyphs? Is this "normal" CS5 behavior?
