I have not set any password myself. And in the package of my lenovo there is no instruction book for the panda software.......

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known Mac malware takes the form of trojans that can only operate if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. Any website that prompts you to install software, such as a “codec” or “plug-in,” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they're all counter-productive. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav -- nothing else.

  • Why has Apple not addressed the problems with its own software?

Since I seem to have made the fatal mistake of upgrading my lovely iMac to Snow Leopard, most of my iLife 09 products have ceased working. In particular iDVD, where as before on faithful Leopard it did its job 100% it now decides to crash whenever it feels like it, leaving me with a third party application to use. Myself, along with approx 2000 other users have the same problem, so come on Apple, why the problems with your own software?? and why are we still waiting??

    Hi hipster36
Welcome to apple discussions. Question for you: Is your mac intel based?
If not, what's the objective in upgrading to Snow Leopard as opposed to continuing to work perfectly within Leopard? What added features were you considering to upgrade to? Are there any benefits in doing this for your own mac (even if it is intel based)?
It's wise to approach all upgrades with caution (meaning always back up your current / working HD).
Frankly, the way I upgrade is to clone my existing hard drive and then boot to the clone. Thereafter, I install the latest upgrade or OS (assuming it works well on the clone). I guess what I'm saying is to never upgrade without backing up and performing a test drive of the latest OS before you opt to alter your main hard drive. One can't assume that the latest and greatest Mac OS will continue to work fine on a mac which didn't first ship with this particular OS.
This latest Mac OS /Snow Leopard is a bold step forward for apple. It's bold step forward in that it excludes all non-intel based macs.

  • QuickTime incompatible with Outlook / antivirus software

After recently installing QuickTime I was unable to send an e-mail from Outlook. At first I thought the installation of QuickTime did something to Outlook, but after some research and running Detect and Repair, there was no improvement. Doing an internet search for "outlook unable to send e-mail" brought me to a website where it was suggested to check the antivirus software. So, I turned off the antivirus (ESET NOD32), and was then able to send an e-mail. So, now I knew the issue was not between QuickTime and Outlook, but rather QuickTime and ESET.
I could adjust ESET to be more compatible with QuickTime, but that would also make it less effective at handling viruses. So, that did not seem like a wise solution. On a hunch, I reviewed the QuickTime preferences and turned off the automatic update function, a service I dislike anyway. After that I was able to send an e-mail without making any compromise with the antivirus software, so it seemed like a winning solution. Here’s how to make that change to QuickTime: after opening QuickTime, select Edit from the menu at the top > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences > Update > clear the checkmark from “Check for updates automatically” > Apply > OK.
This doesn’t mean you cannot update QuickTime; it just won’t happen automatically. To update QuickTime manually, select Help from the menu at the top > Update Existing Software.

You said TLS was irrelevant to iTunes, and I was simply pointing out where I've been told by a supervisor at Apple it was concerning an iTunes issue.
It wasn't a matter of whether any security software was turned off or on, but I did notice a difference at first of whether TLS was disabled or not, but only for the TV shows.
This was at the end of a longer history of issues with slow downloads of TV show purchases, spanning multiple ISPs, Windows versions and different security software choices installed on fresh systems.
I suspect this to be a case of two different companies not doing right and blaming everything on other things to avoid cleaning up their own acts.
It took a while to then trace out what was disabling TLS and that turned out to be McAfee. It took hours of guiding a tech through his control of my computer tampering with my settings to demonstrate simply that their software disables TLS, which causes other issues as well, but I'm only addressing the one with iTunes in this forum, and only then did he bother to check with his higher-ups who told him it was supposed to do that to a customer's computer.

  • Upgrading from OSX 10.58 to 10.6 - any problems with previously installed software anyone?

I was wondering if anyone had had any problems with their current software after installing 10.6? (I'm asking because I have a substantial investment in the Adobe Creative Suites and don't want to lose it.) Has anyone had any problems after installing 10.6?  Thank you in advance for any replies.

I would check the Adobe web site to see if it will be compatible.  If there is an issue you may consider a partitioned HDD and run the two OSs each on separate partitions.
    Ciao.

  • LogMeIN Guardian has detected a problem with the LogMeIn software...

A customer I support got an error dialog box, "LogMeIN Guardian has detected a problem with the LogMeIn software on this machine".  He supplied no other details regarding what he was doing at the time or how long the session had been established with the host. I connected to his laptop and there are no malware infections reported by HitMan Pro or Norton. The event viewer entry for this event is: LogMeIn Guardian has detected a problem with the LogMeIn software installed on this machine. The problem is locally identified by the following reference ID: 'e564efd936b4fa136c2f2fc87cfcc592'. There are no other remarkable events in the event viewer. Any idea what happened?  Does the reference ID help? Thanks,

I am receiving a similar message. The id is different and I don't know if that is a generic message and the ID is the key or if the id just relates to computer-account or something. In my case, I have installed it onto Windows 8 RP and although everything looks fine, and most functions work correctly but when I try to remote-control I get a 202 (remote control session initiated) and see a flash of the desktop then a disconnect with error 104 and the following: Message:  LogMeIn Guardian has detected a problem with the LogMeIn software installed on this machine. The problem is locally identified by the following reference ID: '386708ab41884ad6d1d37258cd9b6140'     my guess is an incompatible display driver since I can do other functions (such as event viewer). I will be trying a newer driver.

  • Is there problem with Sophos Antivirus? I just received an Apple warning message saying "send it to trash"

I am using a Macbook-Pro running Maverick. I just got a message on the screen "Sophos AntiVirus will damage your computer and you should send it to Trash". It looks like a genuine Apple warning message. Is it genuine? Has anyone else had such a message?

I them installed Avast and ran a complete scan with that. It reported that there're no infected files, which makes me wonder about Avast.
And indeed you should wonder about Avast, but not for that reason. There's no reason at this point to think you have any malware on your computer, so I would not expect it to find anything.
However, Avast has a serious problem with false positives, even detecting a particular system file as malicious sporadically since 2009 at least. Worse, the current version of Avast includes an unmentioned adware feature. See:
    Avast installs adware!
The solution to this problem is not more anti-virus software.

  • Problems with third party software unable to maint...

    Hi,
I have a problem with a software application that needs to be connected to a server on the web all the time. I get disconnects logged in its log file. It's worst in the evening up until about 11pm and then it improves markedly but during the weekdays its connectivity degrades again until the evening.
I have tried many things including taking my PC and connecting up to O2 broadband where these disconnects didn't happen at all. I think that BT is throttling my connection and causing packet loss that this software can't deal with.
I was looking at my BT account on bt.com and I discovered there is a usage meter. Up until now, I thought I had a flatrate deal however the usage meter tells me I've only got 10Gb for December and I've used half of it and it's only the 10th today.
I read in the Help section that if I exceed my limit I will get charged and BT will start restricting my connection. This is what I think is happening.
However the Help section also said I would be informed by email but I haven't received any emails regarding my usage. I have a suspicion that they may be being sent to a BT email address which I was allocated, but I set this account up 6 years ago and I now have no record of what the BT email would be.
How can I find out what my email address is and whether there are a pile of emails waiting for me to read? Am I likely to be right about the software connectivity problem and BT throttling my connection?
    Thanks for any help!
    Regards
    Adam Hardy

    Hi Guys,
    thanks for your quick responses.
I don't have a record of an email from BT for 2004 when I set up my telephone & broadband. I do have an email saying that my BT.com login name is "[email protected]" (obviously not really) but nothing else.
In my files I have a letter saying the same thing with an account number, but no btinternet.com address.
I logged into MyBT and under the Broadband "Manage your services" there's a username which I am not familiar with and my telephone number.
I tried setting up an email account in Thunderbird to download any emails from mail.btinternet.com using that username but it asks me for a password which I leave blank and then it says "Error logging in. Please visit mail.yahoo.com". I also tried it with [email protected]
I just visited mail.yahoo.com which redirected me to https://register.btinternet.com/cgi-bin/respasswd1 but that form asks me for postcode, DOB and mother's maiden name and then tells me the info is wrong (which it's not - I even tried my old postcodes).
What is strange is that the username given "jsmith123" is not the username I use to log in here - see to the right  - I think that must have been adopted by BT at some point later.
    Any other advice?
    Thanks!

  • Problem with new iPod software update and Robi DAB radio

There seems to be a compatability issue between my iPod Classic and my Robi DAB radio attachment. The DAB radio was working just fine until last week, when I downloaded the latest iPod software updates. Since then, the Robi works fine when it is used as a remote control for the iPod, but when it is used in radio mode, the iPod shuts down after a few minutes (as though it does not recognise that the radio is still attached, and thinks that there is no activity) and the Robi closes down too (due to lack of battery power when the iPod is no longer on). It could be a coincidence, but my guess is that the iPod updates are causing a problem.
I have tried to remove the new software updates from the iPod, ie I deleted the latest updates from the iPod software updates file (C/Documents and Settings/user name/Application data/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software updates), unchecked the box labelled "automatically check for software updates", and then tried to restore the iPod using the old software. At that point, a message from iTunes appeared, to the effect that it could not go any further due to no internet connection. I could not find any way of restoring the iPod without letting iTunes download the current sortware updates.
So the question is, does anyone else have a similar compatability problem (with the Robi or anything else) and how can I get the iPod to run on the previous software?
I would be very grateful for any advice, as this is a very frustrating problem.

The good news is that I removed the most recent iPod software update, restored the iPod (ie returned it to factory settings and reloaded all 14500 songs) and now I am really pleased to say that the iPod and the Robi are working together again in harmony, which is a huge relief.
    Since I had inadvertently deleted the previous version of the iPod software from my PC, I had to download the files from here;
    http://rapidshare.com/files/73863240/1.0.3.zip.html
I have contacted Roberts Radio about this problem. The recent 1.1 software update must be even more frustrating for them, since they have sold lots of Robi radios.
    If anyone needs help to revert to the previous iPod software, have a look at this thread, where the instructions are printed in red;

  • Problems with Macbook after Software Update

I haven't updated my Macbook in a long time, so I decided it was time I probably did. Software Update had updates for iTunes, Quicktime, and a 2009-Security Update. Everything seemed to be going okay. After the downloading and installing finished, it said the Security Update couldn't be installed and moved it to the trash. Then it prompted me to restart my computer because the other two installed okay.
After restart, when my computer started back up, my Macbook is messed up. The doc is missing. I open a finder window, and it shows the main folders, but all the things on the right (where it shows the drive, applications, and such) is missing. I tried to back up my files, but it can't even read there is a blank disc inserted (keeps asking me to insert a blank disc). And it wont let me shut down my computer, or restart it. I click restart, and it seems like it accepts it, but it just doesn't do anything. The dashboard wont show up when you hit F12. This mac is all messed up.
I don't know what happened here, all I installed was iTunes and Quicktime from the Software Update (security update didn't install), and all this happened. Any idea what happened and how I can fix this?
I'm using Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There's a variety of things you could try, but first as to why it is doing this. Probably your drive was slightly corrupted. If it was minor you might not have noticed it, but when the updates tried to install, the whole thing compounded and led to a whole bunch of things missing.
First, try to repair your drive. Boot from the System installer disc that came with your computer or is the one for the version you currently have on there, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. You can verify a drive from DU on your main drive while booted but I have found this can result in incorrect reporting of errors. To repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive anyway.
Next, boot from your drive in [Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393] and repair permissions. You can repair permissions while booted from the installer disc but this uses the permissions configuration on the installer disc which may be out of date if you have run any updates on your computer. Booting your computer to Safe Mode restricts the number of things running on your computer while permissions are being run and does a bit of spring cleaning at the same time.

+Summary of above from BDaqua+ (couldn't have said it better):
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."
Report back after you have done this. It may be that you have to use a more powerful utility such as Diskwarrior.
Once the drive is repaired you can try re-applying the two updates, though often it takes a full archive and install, plus re-application of all updates, to get everything working again.

    Finally, on updating:
    Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a bootable clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk.

You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
    Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned (e.g., [Permissons repair|http://www.macworld.com/article/52220-3/2006/08/repairpermissions.html] as to necessity. Probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe?
