Problem with pattern fills

I have a black and white pattern fill (black dots on a white background). When I fill objects with it and put a sheet color behind them, sometimes the fill is translucent (meaning the color shows where the white is supposed to), but sometimes it is correctly opaque. I've tried filling the translucent objects with the opaque fills with no success. Any ideas??

HOw do you generate the color behind the object?
is it a rectangle filled with the color?
if so, check if the pattern object is set to multiply , see transparency panel.

Problem with applying fills & strokes to grouped objects in Illustrator CC

I have this problem that I deal with everyday & I can't figure out how to fix it.
I am always struggling with applying fills & strokes (or changing fills & strokes).
It seems like I always have to ungroup the objects first (even if I never grouped them in the first place), or I have to clear appearance first. Sometimes I have to ungroup several times, even if it is only one object by itself, not grouped with anything else.
I think It may have something to do with the pathfinder... like the pathfinder is creating groups when I use the divide filter.
Even when I use the direct selection tool, to select just the object I want, it wont let me apply the fill or stroke that I want.
Also, it seems like it has several layers of appearance... when I ungroup the object, it changes appearance (the fill or stroke changes).
Also, if I eyedrop the object to apply its appearance to another object, the "hidden" appearance is the one that gets appled to the new object.
The closest discussion I could find was about compound paths, but I think this is a different issue, because when I go to compound paths in the menu, it doesn't give me the option to release anythig.
I have this problem ALL DAY LONG, every day. Please help!!

I see what you are saying, and I think is some cases that could be a helpful trick - but the problem I'm having is slighlty different.
The object that I want to change doesn't show the actual appearance... it only shows its underlying appearance after ungrouping several times, and then when it is completely ungrouped, it visibly changes to another fill & stroke. This happens even when the object is not grouped with anything... it is just grouped to itself i guess & I am not grouping these items, they just become grouped somehow - I think because of the pathfinder. I often have to ungroup 3-5 times, which is a hassle in iteself... but sometimes I actually need to grouping to keep items togther so I can manage all the ojects & move them around as needed.
So... the method you are suggesting could possibly solve the issue, except I don't know what the fill & stroke is until I ungroup everything, so I can't create the swatch off to the side to match it. The other thing is, it seems like I would be creating a lot of swatches, since I use lots of different fills & it seems like it would be a lot of extra work.
Here is an example of 2 objects before using the pathfinder. Please note how the object selected & the fill & stroke boxes all jive:

1) why pathfinder is grouping these objects
2) why the strokes & fills change & why the fill & stroke boxes don't match the actual fill & stroke.
3) why I can't change the fill or stroke without ungrouping (even when using the direct selection tool).

Problem with pattern numeric field

I tryed to format numeric field with patterns num{zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz9} or num{99999999999999999999}. But when I enter 20 numeric characters like 12345678901234567890 as a result I got 12345678901234567000. How fix that problem?

The result you're getting is correct, because you pattern only allows a period to separate the decimal places.
Try the following edit pattern:
num{zzzzzzzzzzz9,99}|num{zzzzzzzzzzz9.99}
and this display pattern:
num{zzz.zzz.zzz.zz9,99}

Problems with black fills in live trace(d) eps images in Word and certain printers

Hi folks, PLEASE help me with this if you know a possible solution. I regularly run Live Trace in Illustrator CS3 on my grayscale bmp or tiff scanned images, save them as an eps, then folks in other departments insert them into Microsoft Word pages. Sometimes these images display in Word with unintended black fills, and some printers print them out with the same corrupted appearance, yet some other printers print them fine (even if the display in Word shows them with the unintended black fills). I THINK this might be a postscript issue (?). I don't have the option of telling everyone to change from Word to InDesign (which would absolutely solve the problem immediately). Is there something I can set while performing Live Trace? They really need the eps files, so I don't have the option of saving them as another format. HELP! Thanks...

I use Mac at home and love it. At work, we use PC platform. I can't save as a pdf because they need to stay vector graphics. he departments want us to save the eps in version 8 because they're STILL using Windows 2003 (ugh). I keep thinking there must be something I can do while in Live Trace because we've never noticed any inintended black fills in graphics not created using Live Trace. Somehow, Word and some printers are not interpreting some postscript language correctly. InDesign has zero issues with it. Some printers have no problem with it, so I assume they are postscript printers. There's got to be a way I can still save as an eps but without the postscript conflict (IF that's what it is).

Issues with pattern fill in ps 6. Why is it making each tile a different color?

HELP!!! I've used the Fill>Pattern to tile my seamless patterns tons of times and never had this issue. Suddenly , it started making each tile on the large canvas a different color when I apply Fill>Pattern. At first I thought it was a tip or guide to see the repeat edges , but it shows up in print preview too. What did I do and how do I correct it?

Is this photoshop 6 or photoshop cs6?
If it's cs6, check that you aren't using scripted patterns for the pattern fill.
Also, check the blending mode and opacity in the fill dialog.

Browser problem with graduated fill

A web page with a rectangle filled with a graduated fill (either MUSE or PHSP) and a transparent text box displays correctly when opened in my IE11 Browser but after scrolling down the page and then returning to the top the rectangle has horizontal white lines in it.
Browser version: Internet Explorer 11 ver. 11.0.9600.16476.
Windows 7 64 bit
Efforts to correct this in MUSE unsucessful.

I have since discovered the cause of the error. By chance I copied the rectangle and pasted it.
I needed to fill the new rectangle with ''No colour' which I did with the Fill Tool only to discover that there was another colour still there which I could not get rid of.
Replacing both rectangles with new ones has cured the error!!
Somehow I must have corrupted the fill option.

I've never had this problem before, I noticed improvements a few days ago regarding pattern tool but the last few days I've been unable to fill layers with a user defined pattern. This is one of the main reasons I use photoshop and it's giving me a headache!!! I have to turn in some patterns by monday and this is not working, please fix it!!

Problem with saving filled-in form

I downloaded an official state form and after filling out the required fields saved it. When I retrieved the document, the filled in data appeared for an instant then disappeared. I have previously downloaded forms from this State site and filled in the fields, saved the document and then retrieved it without a problem. Now whenever I pull up a document.pdf the once filled-in fields vanish.
I have not changed any settings on the Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Professional application that is being used to save and then retieve the document. I am using XP Professional with SP2 and all other updates.
Can anyone explain why the filled in form does not stay filled in when retrieved and how to fix it so it will not happen again?

The form may be set to clear the fields when opening. There are various reasons folks select this option, but it is likely the problem.

Problem with Brush + fill (gap) in 7 & cs4 (pic attached)

So starting sometime yesterday every time I draw with the brush (stroke a path), then fill it with the paintbucket there is always a gap between the fill and the brush. This is happening in 7 and cs4. See attached image I've tried googling this problem but the search terms (brush, gap, fill) are too generic. I've reset all photoshop settings and brushes in both 7 and cs4. I'm lost, any help is appreciated.
in this screen shot you can see the gap between the brush and the fill, but there is no gap with filling a marquee.

I also tried brushes that include a hardness control slider in CS3. They all produce the gap following your technique even with the hardness setting maxed. I assume some anti-alias must be included.
On a whim, I tried a brush from the "square brushes" set that is included in Photoshop. I selected this set because it lacks a hardness control slider. This particular brush set produced no gap when using your technique. I assume there is no anti-alias built into brushes that lack a hardness control slider. My theory is that previously this is the type of brush you have used to stroke your boxes.

I've been having a problem with auto-fill in the email on my ipod touch.

I have updated to new email addresses, or accidnetly typed in the wrong on, and now the email addresses won't go away, even though they're not in my contacts. So when i said for instance i want to send a message to [email protected] and it just changed to [email protected], the [email protected] keeps popping up even though i dont need it anymore and it has been removed from my contacts. I have also looked on the internet if any other people have had problems, and they all have had iOS4, and all of them have the same problems except for some, the copybot.com worked, but as well a couple said it did not. I really hope apple updates the software once again and removes the autofill from all email addresses.I have updated the iOS5.1 software, i have the 4th generation ipod touch, and yes i've tried to copybot.com and selected each previous sent email address one by one and restored it, but nothing changed and it wasn't fixed. I have also went into the settings and went to change the auto-correction tab, but that as well didn't work. I dont know if im the only one with this problem, but cant you please help:/ It really is a bother. Thanks(:

I know of no solution except for restorng the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. Have you made a suggstion to Apple to all resetting email autofill?

Strange problem with auto-fill addresses in mail and address book

There's an entry in my address book (version 4.0.6) that keeps adding a first name to an entry. I keep deleting it and somehow the first name keeps getting added. I suspected that Mail (2.1.3) was using auto-fill or LDAP to take the name it remembered in Mail and put it in Address Book by associating the email address, so I turned off LDAP and auto-fill and the problem still persists.
As an aside, I use mobileme to sync two macs (Address Book) and a pc (Outlook) so I really want to clear up this problem so the phantom entry does not keep getting transfered to all databases.
Should I delete some cache or something? One other problem (unsure if it's related) is that my Mail application always ask for my keychain password on startup - I have tried the keychain repair app and it seemed to work once, though this problem persists, as well.

Yes. the dot in front makes it invisible.
Show hidden files...
Open the terminal and type or copy/paste:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
Reverting to the default of NOT showing hidden files:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
Reboot or Force Finder quit needed for either change to show.
I'd move them both to the Desktop then reboot, if it works fine then you can Trash them.

Problem with Pattern Matching

Hello, I am using Vision Development Module 8.5 with VB6. I need immediate help on coming up with a solution for an auto warranty return for incomplete "Fog Lamp" indicator symbol. I use a match score minumum of 900, but the match score returns a 932. I don't see how a score > 900 is returned for so much missing from this symbol. I use this test in a high production line and am very concerned. I attached a Vision Assistant 8.5 script and actual image from auto warranty return. The *.png template used for comparison is also in zip file.

Golden Template does exist in 8.5, and that was my first idea too, however, after trying it, it might not be the best algorithm for it.
Golden Template compare the contour of objects, and they don't produce very good result in the specific image because the symbols are relatively small and not contrasted enough once we look at the luminance plane (i.e. we can't perform a great contour extraction).
What I tried and works decently is the looking at the identification score of the classification algorithm.
The only drawback of this method is that the object needs to be whole (i.e you might need to do a little morphology to close the objects). But the identification score will be quite different on the partial fog lamp.
Another tactic, which is similar to the previous one is to (mis)use the OCR algorithm to train the object and use the character verification function (i.e. define a perfect fog lamp image (character) as the reference character when you train the OCR engine.
The algorithm will them return a verification score which will tell you how far or close the pattern under inspection is from the reference one defined in the OCR file. OCR is based on classification.
After trying that on your image, the verification score is different enough and you could use that for making a decision, but the difference is not as marked as with using the identification score of the classification algorithm.
Both algorithms are based on thresholding the image. One advantage of using the OCR is that you can tweak the min character spacing parameter to adjust the segmentation so that the symbol is considered one full object (as opposed to having to perform morphology to do it if you use the classification algorithm).
As I mentioned, classification seems to give you a better differentiation between the scores.
Both methods allow you to define a Classification file or Character Set File that allow you to test multiple symbols.
I am attaching a couple inspections and files I used to do this quick test.

Having Problems with "pattern" in Spry Validation Text Field

Hi, thanks for reading. I have read the primers and docs on
using the "custom" pattern ability of the spry textfield validion.
However, I am unable to fully understand how to implement the
conditions I desire. I have read that you use:
"B"; "b" for Case-insensitive alphabetic characters.
I suppose my first question is, does that mean either B or b
will work?
What I am trying to accomplish for my first validation is:
1- to allow between 1 and 15 characters to be entered. They
should be only a) alphanumeric (number or letter) b) they MAY
contain a space in there and c) the first character needs to be a
letter. So, what I want it to scrub for is a char string no longer
than 15 chars, number or letter (may contain a space, but that
counts towards the 15) and the first char must be a letter.
I have been playing around with the attributes:
("spryCustomtest", "custom", {validateOn:["blur"],
minChars:1, maxChars:15, pattern:"a"});
however, i am unable to see how to specify the pattern so
that it allows for 1-15 chars and insists that only the first char
is a letter......
My second question is, how could I implement a field for
heightened password-choosing rules....
perhaps tell it to allow for:
a) minimum of 8 characters
b) at least one capital letter
c) at least one special character or number
d) maximum of 30 characters

Problem with photo fill, when using Adobe Photoshop Touch

While experimenting with PS Touch (for android), I discovered the photo fill. I had selected an area of a photo then clicked photo fill. The camera framed me into the selected area. Cool. When I tried to use this feature later on, I clicked photo fill and the selected area filled in black, rather than showing my face. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Tap "More" (looks like an ampersand ("&"); 2nd icon from top right) > Camera Fill.
There's an option to flip the camera around if you have two cameras. (The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 has two; the others have at least one minus the plain Kindle Fire HD, which has none.) Not sure if it's active if you have only one.
