I have  a weird problem I have no Broadband and no my phone is dead, however when I take out the Broadband cable from the socket my phone line then gets a dialing tone but still no broadband. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try a different dsl cable. Sound like either the cable or the modem is shorting somewhere.

  • Major Problem with Phone Line and Support.

Well my problem started about a month and week ago. The problem is that my phone line is messed up. My line drops out unexpectedly and I cant receive calls or send calls. If it does work then the phone only rings for half a second 3 times. If you dont pick it up mostly on the first ring you cant answer the call. And if it doesnt the caller who calls me gets a verizon voice message thing that is setup for the previous owner of the phone number. We called verizon a month ago and setup a appointment for the 18th. Well they called the 17th and said they were sorry they missed us for the appointment on the 17th. We told them it was on the 18th and they said that they guess they forgot to call to tell us the date was changed to the 17th. So they said they will have someone out the next day, on the 18th. We waited at home and they still didnt show up. We called and they set a appointment on the 28th. We waited and they never came again. Now its the 30th and its getting rediculous. We refuse to pay for a service that will never be fixed and we cant use but for 1/3 of the time, if lucky. Is there any fix to this other than getting another appointment?

It sounds to me like your phone line has a short somewhere.  If it was a "hard short", your phone wouldn't work at all.  But yours rings, and then shorts out.  Could be a wiring issue, or it could be a phone issue.  I would unplug all equipment (phones, faxes, computers, etc).  Then take one good phone to a jack and plug it in.  See if the problem still exists.  If it is still a problem, try a different phone at that same jack.  If it's cleared, the problem is with the first phone, if it's still there, unplug the phone and try a different jack.  If the problem cleared, the trbl is at the first jack.  If it's still there, then you either have a short somewhere inside your home wiring, OR the phone number MIGHT BE FORWARDING to another number (which would explain the strange message that callers receive).  Find out how to remove call forwarding in your area (usually by hitting *73 on your phone).  Please post results.

  • Problem with phone line after installation of BT I...

    Hi,
After persuading my dad (86) to switch from aol to BT infinity he is still without a working phone line.  The phone line worked perfectly before switching to BT.  Bt infinity was installed 5 weeks ago and ever since then his phone line developes a loud buzzing noice then breaks up completely after about 1-2 minutes into a call.  Has been reported to BT several times, 4 BT engineers have been out to try and fix the problem without any success.  We do not seem to be getting anywhere with BT and do not know what to do next.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

  • Problem with phone line after moving flats

I have moved to a new flats 3 months ago.  We transferred our BT line (BT is our phone and internet provider) to our new flat, internet works fine, but the phone line doesn't! We are not able to call anyone, or receive any calls. Is it something we can do to fix it on our own or should we call an engineer? Will it cost us anything if we call a BT engineer?
    THank you in advance!

  • Problem with phone line

    Hi there,
I have been having problems with my phone line since May. The line is fine until one day I will pick up to make a call and there will be no dial tone. The tones on the keypad make a noise but the call doesn't happen. No one can get hold of me on my landline. When I get my son to do a line check the phone works again for a few days and then the problem starts again. This has all started since I got broadband. I have had two visits from engineers, the last one being Friday 20th August. That engineer told me he couldn't understand what was happening, he thought it might be the old underground cables and they couldn't cope with the broadband. I have the same issue again and am at my wits end. What should I do next?

    Hi Coomrith and welcome
Did the engineer say whether he was going to escalate this?
You could email the forum mods - [email protected] with your name, account number, phone number and a link back to this thread. They may be able to offer some assistance.

  • Home hub causing problems with phone line

I posted earlier about a phone extension problem- it seems the hub is the problem. My phone had no dial tone just lots of noise, there doesnt seem to be a wiring problem, however if I unplug the home hub the phone will work fine! I have tried a new cable to the hub, tried microfilters which I know are ok, but the problem is no dial tone ,noise, or a recorded voice saying please try again. I assume the hub has a fault unless someone has any other rsuggestions

have you tried connecting the hub and a phone to the test socket using a filter

  • Phone handset not ringing

BT are dealing with this so am not seeking solutions but before contacting them I saw other threads on this which didn't seem to answer the basic questions so am posting for reference only for others with this problem.
My handset(s) weren't ringing even though inward callers were hearing a ringing tone at their end.   The handset's ringers were OK when checked in the handset setup and the handsets were able to dial out.
NB: The BT online line test said there was no problem with the line.
I tried the handset in the test socket under the bottom plate of the main socket as advised online but it still didn't work.    From reading this forum, there ddin't seem to be any 'user' solution to this.   I contacted BT through the online chat and they did further tests, revealing an exchange problem, for which they gave me a reference number and an expected resolution time of 6 days (from report).    Others with this fault should therefore be aware that even if the online test says the line is OK it can be an exchange problem, though this wasn't clear from other threads on here.
I should add that the BT person on the chat line was very helpful and I didn't have to wait too long in the queue.

Faulty port on a line card in the exchange, a very common problem.
An Openreach Field Technician will need to visit the exchange, and move your line onto a different Equipment Number.
They do not normally change line cards unless most of the ports are faulty.
Should not take more than ten minutes, once they have a new equipment number allocated, and your number changed over to it.

  • Phone does not ring when I get calls

My phone does not ring when I receive incoming calls since I upgraded software to IOS 7.

I tried that just now and it doesn't seem to have fixed it--but it is not a constant problem--just sometimes!  I received a call from a friend when do not disturb was turned off but  also when it was on!  That was really strange!
Now I am trying to figure out why my camera flash won't work!!
Yikes crazy stuff going on with my phone since I updated the software!.

  • I had a problem with my WRT54GS not connecting to my inte...

I had a problem with my WRT54GS not connecting to my internet until I cloned my old routers mac address. I was using a BEFW11S4 which was bullet proof and worked for several years until I changed to Wireless G. Upon purchasing the WRT54GS and setting up all parameters exactly like I had before I could not make any connections, wireless or otherwise until I cloned my mac address to the same address as my previous router. Apparently my ISP had that mac address registered and would not properly perform DHCP even though all other paremeters were correct. I read lots of messages here on line with issues with the WRT54GS connecting and this fixed my problem outright. If you upgrade from a previous generation router (Linksys or otherwise apparently) copy your old routers mac address and clone it to your new router and you should be able to connect. This fixed my problem after several hours and days of troubleshooting. Good Luck Karnage

As an alternative to using MAC address cloning, you can phone your ISP, tell them you have a new router, and tell them to reset their system to accept the MAC address of your new router.   This way, you won't have to remember the old MAC address, in the event that you need to reset your router to factory defaults.

  • Intermittent problem with the line

I have an intermittent problem with my line which crackles or you miss parts of a conversation because voices spoken or listened to keep coming and going all the time or the phone cuts out altogether
Telephone the help line which said that the line was OK at that moment as they did the other time I called keeps on happening on a daily basis every time we get a call.
Next door neighbour and other neighbours around this close all linked to the same local bt or open reach cabinet all tell me they have the same problem.
Neighbours called their own phone company who rent the line off of BT who got an open reach engineer out the next day and found that the local exchange or cabinet next to the house across the road from me all the phone line coverings have corroded away and that the wires are all damaged and corroding away or rotting away.
So the local road (culdisack) has to be dug up and the exchange and wires have to be replaced from that junction box to the next junction box or exchange, what i want to know is when will this be done as all the neighbours and i have been reporting it to BT for ages but it was not till next door got their company to investigate was the problem found.
How long till we have to wait for a repair and better lines back to a good service, Months, years. when?
It would not be so bad but i have a lifeline connected to my phone so if i am in trouble it calls for help but with the fault with the line half the time it cannot get a single message or call out and before now i have been left on the floor for ages before someone came back home to get me off the floor as the box just said the phone line was disconected and could not get a dial tone or call out.

just installed iOS 5 and my phone does not ring and i can't hear my keys stroke sounds is there any solution to this problem

If KiltedTim is correct I agree with him. If the phone is not hacked try temporarily disabling your antivirus and firewall that may be blocking access to gs.apple.com. See also this article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error3194

  • Ios7 Phone does not Ring

Upgraded iPhone 4 and 3 iPhone 5 to IOS 7. Now all phones will not ring and everything goes to Voice messaging. Voice Messaging alerts does not function now also. Will call Rogers to find out this problem! Worked with Apple to find a resolution. Backed up iPhone in iTunes to computer. Did a restore to virgin SW and got ringing. Did a restore from Itunes and found out that restore was corrupted and lost 30 Gigs of SW. Since we restored it as new iPhone, my iCloud backups were lost also. ****! Any suggestions? I am getting tired debugging Apple issues (Iphone 5 WiFI, HDMI on Air, now this). This points to IOS7 Bug.

I had same issue. My phone will not ring or get text sounds when locked. This morning my alarm did not make a sound neither. Thanks to my dog who woke me up. My "do not disturb" was on. It's the moon on your quick menu. I wish the phone will let you know the "do not disturb" is on when you hit the home button to use the phone. I was not aware of this feature on my quick menu.

  • Have an iPhone 5. Phone does not ring when calls come in and texts sent from non-iPhones are delayed by 4-5 hours before receiving.

Have an iPhone 5. Phone does not ring when calls come in and texts sent from non-iPhones are delayed by 4-5 hours before receiving.

This morning I woke up thinking that I should turn off my iPhone and then call it from a land line.  If the problem is the network then there would be a delay before I heard ringing.
I turned my iPhone off and called it.  Right away I heard my message.
I turned my iPhone back on and called it.  It rang right away!
So, did Virgin Mobile fix the problem or did turning my iPhone off fix the problem?
I don't know, but I'll take either.  I do know that Virgin Mobile said it would be four days to check the problem.  Did the problem get fixed yesterday when the four business days were up.  I do know that I've had my iPhone on for a long, long time.  Did upgrading to 6.1.1 or 6.1.2 cause the problem and turning my iPhone off reset my iPhone?
If you have delayed ringing problem and turning your iPhone off and on again resolved it, please post a note here.
P.S. I did call Virgin Mobile and its records show the investigation is still open.  I hope my points get passed on to the investigators.
P.P.S. Reading my notes, I had turned my iPhone off and on last week.  Maybe it's all the phase of the moon.

  • At a loss with phone line and broadband

    Hi,
First of all, sorry for cross posting this, but as you might gather I'm currently stuck between a rock and a hard place.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Phones/At-a-loss-with-phone-line/td-p/54639
I'm not going to repeat everything in that post, just to say when all equipment is unplugged and you get crackles and white noise through the phone, it can not be equipment, no matter how intermittent. Am I correct?
The main reason for cross posting is around the annoying BRAS IP profile. It seems that for 30mins of static, I get stuck on a 130k profile for 3days. I could cope with the occasional outage or slow down, but 3days is half a week and when you have the recent bad weather, you get 1day of decent profile before the next spat! As a result of this, I would like to see if anyone else in the community has been through similar?
I will point out that I have been working in IT for 13years, so I like to pretend that I know something about things, but I must say that BT is one of the only companies that I deal with and dealt with that seem insistent on blaming the customer for everything.
