Problem with plazma HDTV as external display

I have Panasonic HDTV 42" , which i use as external display. I try to connect it through miniDVI to HDMI adapter. Sometimes it works just fine. Just turn on tv and macbook use it as external display. But sometimes it does not work. When i turn it on and turn it off, i can see blink in macbook display, so maybe something wrong with TV. It have tried connect to diff HDMI port, connect, disconnect, everything, it does not work anymore. Yesterday, i had the same problem but somehow i fixed it, today i have the same problem. Maybe it is about spaces or ..i just do not know..If someone had the same problem and fixed it , so it would be great to hear suggestion.
Thanks
P.s. Sometimes i got this problem in Windows, but after several rebooting, reseting and reconnection it usually got fixed

Hi!
In the problem i described above i was using: TV->HDMI->DVi-->miniport To DVI-->Mac. However,
I have tried to connect my macbook to normal 22 display using macbook-> miniportToDvi-->ext display. and everything works fine. So i assume that problem is with my HDMI to DVI cable. I will try to find another one tomorrow and it should fix the problem.
Thank you anyway, mate

  • Trouble with MBP 15" and external display

ahh, the joy of a new display...
I just received my NEC 20wmgx2 (20" widescreen 1680x1050), a fantastic little monitor, with a little problem.
I cannot get this display to work properly with my macbook pro.
If I use DVI (DVI out to DVI in)
The external stays blank, and says no signal, the laptop display blinks, like it sees something is there, but even after clicking 'detect displays' nothing shows up.
    If I use VGA (DVI->VGA adapter->VGA in)
Ok, now I have a picture, however the correct resolution is not on the list, all I have are typical non-widescreen resolutions.
Using third party software (switcresX) I am able to force the correct resolution option to get it to run at the right res.
However this is not an ideal solution by any means, and I would like to be able to run this monitor from dvi, no adapters, as I suspect that would be the best quality, and also avoid odd third party resolution hacks.
My question is then, does anyone have any idea why the macbook would not register the monitor correctly, or what I might try to do to get things on track?

I'm on looking for a solution, but I can only get my external Viewsonic working if I methodically unplug and replug in the monitor cord to the MBP 4-5 times. Try unplugging it (wait for the flash) and replugging it in (again - wait for the flash and a few more seconds for good luck) a few times.
I've been reading some posts about it not sending a signal to projectors and TVs properly. I think that may be it - it knows the external monitor is there, but isn't sending the external monitor enough signal to wake it up. Check your System Preferences -> Displays to see if it knows it's there.

  • Re: Problems with USB hub in Studio Display

Ok, so I read a couple of posts here about USB hub problems with studio displays. Well... lucky me. I just got a used 17" studio LCD from craigslist.com (a local person) only to discover a day after getting it that it abruptly tries to go to sleep on its own; or the usb hubs in the back stopped responding; and/or it would intermittently flicker on and off like it was trying to go to sleep but couldn't. The screen itself is perfectly fine and clear when its own and I can get it to stay on for awhile with no problems, but just from my impression from the thing, this problem is going to continue. Was there ever a reasonable solution for this USB issue? My computer was running fine before on a 17" CRT Studio Display. And unfortunately, I've already given that one away.
<--- Poor student, so I'm hoping I'm not SOL.

Is your USB hub a self-powered one? Meaning, does it have its own external power supply?
If it is, make sure its power supply is plugged in to a live source. Also, some self-powered hubs have a small selector switch, allowing the choice of bus or self power; if it has such a switch, be sure it is not set to "bus".

  • Recent problems with a pair of external Seagate hard drives

I've recently started having some trouble with a pair of external hard drives.  They're used exclusively for back up and I'm fairly certain all of their contents are available elsewhere, so I'm not terribly concerned about the data they contain.  I would, however, appreciate some insight into what has happened, how it happened and/or what I might do to fix it.
The two hard drives were both formatted with a single ext4 partition.  Within the last couple weeks, Arch Linux started to incorrectly detect them both as HPFS/NTFS/exFAT.  Mounting them as I had been (with just -o rw), ownership/permissions do act as if the partition is ntfs.  Using chown to change ownership would affect all directories but did not affect any files.  If I use -o uid=myusername,umask=177,dmask=077 (which I'm pretty sure is all that's been necessary in the past to read and write ntfs partitions), I can then access files as well, but I still can not write anything new to disk.
After a bit of searching, I found a pair similar threads suggesting that fdisk/cfisk should be used to change the partition type back to 83.  I used cfdisk to do so and both cfdisk and fdisk -l now show partition type as linux.  Mounting with just -o rw and using chown does now change ownership of files as well, but it still does not allow me to write to the disk and ownership/permissions are not kept after unmounting/remounting.  I'm not really sure where to go from here.
As to the potential source of the problem, the main point that comes to mind is that I booted into Windows 7 for the first time in at least a few months around that time.  I don't generally leave these external hard drives connected except for when backing up, but it's possible that they were connected while booting Windows at one point.  If they were connected, I definitely did not do anything that should have affected them, but I'm wondering if it's possible that Windows automatically did.

I highly doubt Windows itself would have done anything without your consent. For programs running in Windows, there's no telling, but if you don't have the security stuff turned off you should still have been prompted. Also, the fs type really shouldn't have any effect in Linux unless you're using a poorly written helper.
Anyway, give us something concrete to work with, s/a output of fdisk -l, lsblk -f, dumpe2fs -h, the relevant output of mount when the partitions are mounted, the permissions of the mountpoint when mounted, an example of the contents of the fs, etc.
Other thoughts: Have the partitions been fsck'd lately? Have you looked at your journal from around the time things started going sideways?

  • FCP Problem with Firewire output to external monitor and speaker ???Help

i have a g5 powermac. the problem is when using Final cut pro 4hd. when i output my work through firewire to my external monitor and speaker i have a problem with the audio signal. Theres feedback/noise/hiss from the speakers. The firewire connects to DSR-11 vtr deck which feeds my monitor and speakers. it only happens when in FCP is set to A/V firewire output. does not happen if Video output is not set to firewire.
I Diagnosis is that it is not my dsr-11 deck or firewire i've ruled those out. The problem is either FCP software or Hardware problem with my G5
Does anyone have a similar problem. please respone, i will try to answer any respones,
    Thanks
    powermac g5     powermac

    CaptM
From the firewire that feeds the dsr-11. on the output, i use s-video cable to my monitor (sony pvm-14l) and High Quality rca cables thet feed the audio to the Roland Speakers.
I've changed all wires and still have audio problem. I,ve changed my Dsr-11 deck to my camcorder and still have the problem.
If any of u guys use FCP The problem happens When I select view> external Monitor > and select firewire for Audio/ and video. I have never changed my editing habits, something just went wrong with the signal, I think its a Hardware problem with the firewire connection. I'm Going to have to bring this to a Apple Service Center In my local area one day.

  • Anyone having problems with Safari on an external monitor with Lion?

I have an iMac with external second monitor. Upgrade to Lion.  Aside from it being terribly slow, and having typing problems (where first letter appears 4th or 5th when beginning to type), I've noticed the following:
On iMac monitor, everything works fine.
On the external monitor, it's often impossible to fill in a form.  Drag Safari over to the main monitor - no problem.  Drag it back - still can't complete a form.
Another example:  Netflix.  Plays on either monitor.  However, stopping and starting a movie with the mouse doesn't work.  With the space bar, it does.
Overall terribly disappointed in what Lion has done to my computer.

What exact problems are you having? I have been having intermittent problem with mine. Sometimes certain sites will not connect. I get a message that the server stopped responding. I open Firefox and it connects fine.

  • HDMI connection problem with Olevia HDTV 237T

I have a problem with the Fios HDTV box not communicating via the HDMI cable to my Olevia HDTV 237T. Every time I start up or change channels from HD signal to SD signal, the TV goes to blue screen with no signal. The only solution found so far is to unplug the HDMI cable from the TV and plug it in again. I tried an HDMI switcher box in-between but with no real difference in the result.  Is there a solution to be found before I wear out the connectors on the cable?

The only other thing you could do would be to try upgrading the firmware on your television. That might fix the HDMI sync issues. If it doesnt, the only other option would be to use a component cable. It will give you the same 1080i quality picture that our set top box puts out. That HDMI sync problem is the biggest problem that any device that communicate HDMI can encounter. I'm sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

  • Handshake problems with Philips HDTV

Hi, Since I updated to 10.9.1 I have handshake problems with my Philips tv. I can only use it for a couple of minutes then it turns green/turquoise and all the colors are mixed up and I have to reconnect the HDMI-cable to get the colors back. I have had the same problem before with mountain lion but then it was solved by doing this:
    1. Download http://www.mediafire.com/?fdz29bgsg3zm653
    2. Unarchive it
    3. In the Finder, go to (using cmd-shift-G) the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/
    4. Place the entire directory you unarchived in step 2 (DisplayVendorID-410c) in the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/
    5. Reboot
Now unfortunately I cannot get it to work by doing the same. Does anyone have the same problem and maybe a solution for it?
    I would be very greatful!
    /Niklas

    Hi,
I can see that I'm not the only one with the same problem. But yesterday I gave the DisplayVendorID-410c one more chance and it has actually worked since that for me. Now I have had it on for maybe 5h in a row without that the screen turning green/turquoise. I don't know why it didn't work earlier maybe I just have been lucky now. But I suggest that you all give it one more chance, maybe it will also start working for you guys. I hope iyou have the same luck as me, because I know how frustrating it is when  things doesn't work!
I repost one more time what I did:
    5. Reboot
    Good Luck!

  • Macbook Pro Retina Fan Speed with 3 vs 2 external displays

    Hello,
When I'm in my home office, I often use my MacBook Pro Retina in Clamshell Mode (in a BookArc) with external displays.
Originally, I used 2 external displays (2x 1920x1800), and the fan speed and temperature remained stable at the lowest end of the spectrum (around 2200rpm and 60°C). However, recently I decided to use all the ports available and plug in an extra monitor (1680x1050) for that extra screen real estate. I can tell you that having three external monitors really makes a difference to my productivity. However, just by adding this extra display, the fan speed boosts up to a minimum of 4500rpm and often goes up to around 6000rpm. The temperature is also high (I guess the fan speed is a symptom of this).
I understand that the extra pixels in the 3rd monitor could definately tax the GPU more. However, I am suprised that the fan speed and GPU temperatures go so high, especially as all I am doing is moving around on a Preview PDF file, just from adding the extra monitor (especially with it's modest resolution).
    I guess my questions are:
Is this expected behaviour for the rMBP?
Is this going to damage my rMBP with extended use (say, a good 6-8 hours pretty much every day for the next few years)?
    Thanks very much,
    Richard

I've managed to get the fan speed down to a reasonable, less audible level by using that old VRAM terminal command to enable me to keep the internal display disabled whilst the lid is open. I've had to shift quite a lot round on my desk to make this happen, but I guess it was the only way. It now runs 3 screens under similar loads at approximately 3500prm.
Taking your advice into consideration, I raised the rear feet and this enabled further decrease in fan speed. I guess one of those laptop stands will augment this effect, and I will look into them.
Anyway, thank you for your help!
    Thanks,
    Richard

  • Compatibility problem with Portege 7020 / 7200 CT display & docking station

    Hi guys,
i am experiencing some problems with the 2 mentioned laptops.
    The 1st one is:
I bought a used 7020 to replace the broken screen of 7200. After disassembled the screen, I noticed that the connectors have the same number of wires, but one of the terminal of the 7200's screen has a larger socket. "no problem" I thought, and with patience I picked up the cable of the 7020 adapter an put it into the 7200.
But when i turned it on i saw only colored lines and squares :S :S
If you want i can provide the PN, if it could help...Even if i check the compatibility before order.
    2nd problem:
Portege 7200 recognize correctly the docking station, while the 7020 emit some beeps before boot, and obviously it doesn't work with him. I checked on toshiba's site and the dock would be totally compatible!
And for last... Where can i find bios updates?
Sorry for my bad english, i hope that someone could help me!
    regards,
    Francesco

    Hello Francesco
You will be really lucky if anyone here can help you with these old notebook models. I am pretty sure they are about 10 years old.
Without maintenance manuals and enough knowledge is not easy to help you with this display replacement.
This issue with docking station can be related to defective hardware. Both notebooks are so similar and both of them can be used with this docking station. How you can be sure hardware is top on 7020?
BIOS updates are available on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp but as I can see for Portege 7000 there is no BIOS update, just for 7020.
If you want you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider. they have maintenance manuals for this old notebooks and they can help you offering exact info about parts you need.

  • Problems with FCP and my second display

    Hi everyone !
I'd like to use for my editing and color correction a second display. I bought the JVC DT-V24L1D monitor, and plugged it into my MBP through a matrox mxo.
When inside FCP, I cannot find a way to display the canevas into my JVC screen, it displays the whole screen i already have on my laptop. I read the manual a good hundred times, and by following what is written I just got nothing. Can please somebody help me finding a way to set FCP ? Thanks.

You are probably better off posting this in the FCP forum, where there are several Matrox MXO users, but since I'm one, I'll give it a go.
When you install the Matrox software, you should have a whole new group of easy setups in FCP using the Matrox. If you are working with standard DV footage, choose the appropriate Matrox setup; i.e., Matrox MXO DV NTSC 720x480. There are also setups for HDV, etc.
After choosing an easy setup, and starting a new project, go to the view menu, and set your external video and audio to the same settings as the easy setup, if they aren't already correct.
Using Command/F12, you can switch from your regular display on the 2nd monitor to the FCP canvas.
A couple of other things to mention: for existing projects, you can change all of the above in your sequence settings, and under the View/External Video settings.
And, in system prefs/displays, set up your external display so that it is not mirroring the desktop; then you can create a dual display window arrangement in FCP, so that when you're not using the Matrox for viewing the canvas, you can have an expanded timeline, more space for your browser, etc., etc.
You can save your custom window arrangement, and toggle between it and the Matrox canvas view with the above mentioned Command/F12.

  • 2008 Unibody Macbook with 2560 x 1440 external display ?

    Hello to all,
This is my first post here but I have used many times the forum to find out usefull information. I am considering buying an external display for my Macbook, but I am hesitating for two reasons:
I read on some page that there could be performance issues with using a high resolution on this rather "old" machine:
    http://superuser.com/questions/265125/27-apple-cinema-display-slows-my-macbook
I have upgraded my MB to 8 GB memory (and a 750 GB HDD but I doubt that makes a difference).
My MB model is this one:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.0-alumi num-13-late-2008-unibody-specs.html
I mostly use it for Web browsing / Office software / iPhoto / movie watching
So first question is: Can anybody confirm whether it will be OK to run my MB with a display of this resolution (similar to Apple Cinema Display), either with the laptop closed or opened?
Second "bonus" question: According to what I read here and there, it seems that I would need to use a miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable or a mDP to DVI-dual-link to ensure full resolution. I own a miniDP to HDMI cable (and HDMI to DVI converter), any chance that I can use it with full resolution ? I didn't find much user feedback on this point yet.
Many thanks for your answers !
    Matthieu

Well, I went ahead and bought the display I wanted, so, yes, I can display 2560x1440, with this MB. It is a bit slow on some applicaitons but it may be due to the dual display, I bet if I use it in clamshell mode it should be OK for most applications.

  • Satellite M30X: Problems with USB 2.0 external HDD

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30X. I recently bought myself a 200GB External Hard Disc. It has its own Power supply. If I connect it with USB 2.0 to my Laptop it happens to diconnect and reconnect permanantly. Sometimes it works, then I can put Data on the Disc. Then again it diconnects and reconnects many times. I've already tried another USB Port, but there is no difference. It's very strange, because I connected the External Hard Disc to many other Computers (Laptop and Tower) and it ALWAYS works!!! Its only with my Laptop it disconnects and reconnects the whole time. As I said, not always. Sometimes it works for like an half an hour or so then the action starts again ...
    Can somebody help???
    Greez Lutz

    Hi Andrea
I really dont know why this happen. A friend of mine has the same problem with his desktop. While copy process runs the HDD is suddenly disconnected and there is also acoustic sound when the hardware is removed.
I have connected his HDD on my Tecra and there is no problem. I really dont know what the problem can be. Maybe there is some problem with OS because I can not believe that there is some contact problem with USB ports.
If you use many different USB devices at the same time maybe there is some conflict between few different drivers. Sorry but it is not easy to give some precise explanation.
