There is no need to delete the podcast from the Store, but the feed needs substantial re-working: it's not adequate as an iTunes feed - as you see it does display the episodes with descriptions but no image nor author credit.
It's missing the essential declarations at the top, and has no 'itunes' tags, without which you will not see an image in the Store (though as you have images embedded in your media files they appear on subscribing).
This page may be of some help: it includes a sample feed so you can see what it should look like:
http://www.wilmut.org.uk/pc
The second line of your feed needs to read
<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
In order to have an image appear in the Store you need the tag
<itunes:image href="URL OF AN IMAGE FOR THE PODCAST" />
and you will see that there are various other itunes tags you need if you want the information enclosed in them to appear in the Store.

  • Problems with Podcasts in iTunes and Podcast App

We're receiving a number of reports from people that our podcasts play for a minute or so and then loop back to the beginning. We're getting the report from multiple users, for different podcast episodes and occurring at different times within each episode.
We've seen it happen once or twice ourselves, but it is very difficult to reproduce. Unfortunately we've received enough complaints that I know this is a real problem that a lot of people are having. They're even leaving negative comments for us in the iTunes store because of it.
Because we've been having trouble reproducing the problem, it's hard to zero in on what's happening. All the complaints I've seen so far seem to be from people using iOS devices and listening through iTunes or the Podcast app.
Is anyone else experiencing these complaints?
The podcast in question is "BackStory with the American History Guys".
    Thanks.

You are using Feedpoxy for your media files; your latest episode file has a 301 ('moved permanently) redirect to
    http://media.blubrry.com/backstory/backstoryradio.org/files/2012/10/Been-There-D one-That_-Historical-Reenactments.mp3
This then has a 302 redirect to
    http://backstoryradio.org/files/2012/10/Been-There-Done-That_-Historical-Reenact ments.mp3
This sort of thing is asking for trouble with podcasts, and may not be helping, however it does play OK in iTunes: the fact that the issue seems confined to iOS devices, and from your description, suggests that it is the dreaded 'byte-range requests' problem. The iPhone plays podcasts by using 'byte-range requests', which means calling for part of the file at a time rather than the whole thing. Unfortunately some servers don't support this, and there were an increasing number of complaints that podcasts which worked elsewhere weren't working on an iPhone.
A Terminal test for this suggests that your server is indeed not accepting byte-range requests: I'm afraid that the only ways out of this are a) ask the people running your server to enable it, or b) find another hosting service and make sure before committing that they can handle this.
To test for this on a Mac, open Terminal and enter curl -I -r 200-300  followed by a space and the full URL of your media file. Success is indicated by lines in the response similar to this:
    Accept-Ranges: bytes
    Content-Length: 101
    Content-Range: bytes 200-300/46077596
This was not in the response to your file.
(Caveat: if you are going to use Terminal, stick to entering exactly what is specified. Don't improvise: you can do a lot of damage very easily. This test is quite safe.)

  • IPod 60 GB G5 problems with podcasts and Firmware 1.2

    Hello,
I have an iPod G5 60GB Video and just installed iTunes 7 and the new Firmware, 1.2. The scanning of all my music (for gapless transition) took a long time but was successful. I updated the firmware on my iPod to 1.2 with no problems and resynced it.
Now, when I play just about any of my podcasts or many of the tracks of music (all MP3 format), the iPod immediately displays the apple logo and resets! I have tried several podcasts that have worked in the past and get the same thing. The Diggnation podcast seems to be the only one I can get to play correctly and some of my MP3s.
Everything worked fine with the previous versions of iTunes and the Firmware. This seems to happen on almost everything, so I can't imagine I am the only one experiencing it. Please help!
    - John Cucco

I have heard that Apple does not monitor these forums.
I am having the same problem with a U2 iPod that I bought about 6 weeks ago. After upgrading to firmware version 1.2, I am unable to play several podcasts.
I physically deleted the offending podcasts from disk and re-subscribed and re-downloaded - still no help.
The three I am having problems with are the following (so hopefully people can compare):
    * Engadget - MPEG audio file - 64 kbps - 44.100 kHz - Encoded with iTunes v6.0.5
    * cnet Buzz Out Loud - MPEG audio file - 64 kbps - 44.100 kHz - Encoded with LAME3.92
    * The Popular Mechanics Show - MPEG audio file - 70 kbps (VBR) - 44.100 kHz - Encoded with iTunes v6.0.5
A few that DO work are:
    * MacBreak Weekly - AAC audio file - 64 kbps - 44.100 kHz - Encoded with iTunes v6.0.4.2, QuickTime 7.0.4
    * CBS News Podcast - Eye To Eye - MPEG audio file - 64 kbps - 22.050 kHz - Encoded with Unknown
    * NBC News - Meet the Press - MPEG audio file - 32 kbps - 22.050 kHz - Encoded with Unknown
What's the pattern? I have no idea although it seems that the lower-bitrate MP3s seem to work at 22.050 kHz but not at 44.100 kHz. AACs seem to work fine no matter what the stats are. Maybe by converting the non-working MP3 podcasts to AAC they will work?
I will try that and report back...
Follow-up Re-encoding the non-working podcasts to AAC makes them work so it must be something to do with the way they are encoded e.g. low bitrate. Hopefully apple will release 1.2.1? I really don't want to downgrade as I have already purchased Tetris and it is awesome!

  • Problems with podcast information

Apologies if all of this is obvious, am very much a novice.
After a few problems, my podcast is finally up on Itunes.
    http://www.jilt.org.uk/Podcast/rss_new.txt
Much to my frustration, however, there is:
    i) no description
    ii) no sub-categories
iii) no image ( this is confusing because the picture DOES emerge when you subscribe to it)
Would really appreciate any help. Is there any way I can address these problems without editing XML? I have done this through Iweb and basically don't have a clue how to edit XML although assume that it isn't impossible!

There's no point in your editing the XML because iWeb will simply over-write any changes you make next time you add an episode. You have to add the description in iWeb itself. There should be a place where you can insert text to appear as the description; and the categories are probably set in the page inspector. However I'm not very familiar with iWeb and I would suggest you ask in the iWeb forum where you can get a response from people who actually use it.

  • Problems with Podcasts & Library Adds

I'm having two problems, and I'm guessing they're related.
On my Quicksilver tower, with OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 7.6, I've had a hard time adding MPG-4 videos and MP3 audio to my Library. The files just aren't recognized no matter how many times I tried to add them. I had the same problem with my previous version of iTunes, which might have been iTunes 7.5. I figured an install of the newest iTunes would solve the problem, but it still exists.
On the same configuration, I'm having problems with subscribed podcasts. Some podcasts come through as subscribed, but I haven't been able to download certain podcasts, specifically videos from Lynda.com. When I was at MacWorld, I asked representatives of Lynda.com if others had this problem, but I guess I was the only one.
On my Powerbook G4, running OS 10.4.10, iTunes 7.3.1, I have no problems with the podcasts or adding files.
    Solutions anyone?
On a similar note, does anyone know why my video iPod won't play certain MPG-4 files? What are the spec requirements?

So far, nobody on the Apple forum has provided me with ANY feedback. Luckily, I'm getting some feedback on MacFixitForums.
    Maybe it's a Quicktime problem?
The "GOOD" computer configuration has QT 7.2 with iTunes 7.3.1.
The "BAD" computer configuration has QT 7.4 with iTunes 7.6.
All my MPEG-4 clips were converted with either iSquint or Visual Hub.
Now... how to fix the problem....??? Can I even download the old versions of QT & iTunes?

  • Problem with podcasts and iTunes 6.0.1.3

    Hi everybody!
First of all, please excuse my poor English: I'm French. I'll try to do my best to write as well as I can.
I have some difficulties with podcasts and iTunes 6.0.1.3.
When I "sign up" (FR: "s'abonner") to some podcasts, they are not updated in my iPod nano indeed (and some others are), although iTunes says: "Your iPod is updated" (FR: "Votre iPod est à jour").
I have no way to put these podcasts episodes in my iPod...
    Could you help me please?
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi iFriend,
try this, it worked for me:
    1) first of all, uninstall QuickTime and older versions of iTunes from your PC, using the "remove" button in the "install applications" tool that you find in the windows control panel.
    2) reboot the system
    3) turn off the windows firewall application; go into the windows control panel, double click on windows firewall and disable the firewall option
    4) if you have one, disable your Anti-Virus application; i mean its real-time protection.
    5) probably it's not necessary, but for being sure... download and launch the standalone installer of QuickTime (latest version)
    6) download and launch the iTunes + QuickTime installer from this web address
    7) as an option, i suggest you to download and install also iTunes Art Importer. It's a nice application, that allows you to import from the internet directly into iTunes the album ArtWorks of the selected tracks in iTunes. I installed it, and it works very well with iTunes 6.
    8) after all the installations, remember to enable both firewall and anti-virus previously disabled!
as i said, probably the 5th passage is not necessary, but i did it and it worked!
if you have any questions or feedbacks, just relpy to this topic. stay iTuned!
    bye, bye,
    Marco

  • Problem with podcast feed on windows 7

    Hi
I have had the following podcast working in itunes for over 3 years.
However, a couple of months ago I moved to a new PC with windows 7 and now the downloads start, stop straight away and give a 404 error.  However, when I use my old XP pc or Vista laptop the downloads in itunes still work.
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/stanway-evangelical-church/id277422426?mt=2
I have even copied the link against one of the podcasts in the itunes store and copied into a new browser.  When you then click play in the itunes browser version it plays.  So it is not an issue that the podcast does not exist and the server being down.

Hhhmmmm! There is definitely a problem.
I've just tried the first link you gave, found the Podcast in iTunes Store and selected Free for the episode of 29th July (which should download the epsiode as a Podcast). Although it looked as though iTunes was downloading it, and gave no error message when it "finished", there is nothing downloaded. (Never seen a failed download but with no error message before!)
I even tried the episode from 8th July, but with the same result. In fact, in both cases, the progress bar went straight from "looking for the episode" to "done" in the iTunes Download section. I even attempted to watch the download in my file manager. The temporary folder is created but no content arrives and eventually the temporary folder is erased.
This is a Podcast problem. Although you managed to play an episode, (in iTunes - I can't), it is a different process to "play" the file as distinct from downloading it as a Podcast episode, so that explains why it can be played in a browser but not downloaded as a Podcast.
I suggest you contact the programme's producers, since it is they who control the Podcast, not iTunes/Apple. I'm sure their first reaction is likely to be that it's an iTunes problem. It may be, (although I doubt it), but as I stated, Apple don't control Podcasts and they will not fault find this one. From previous posts about faulty Podcasts, I know that if the problem is with the iTunes Store, it will still be the producers of the programme who fault find and then report the issue to Apple.

  • ILife 08- problem with Podcast and Blog links on landing page

Hello I have iLife 08, running OS 10.4.11. The Podcast and Blog links on my iWeb landing page appear but don't do anything. All was working fine one week ago. They load, and when you mouse over it the links looks like they are going to work but don't.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
thanks in advance for your time,
    -g-

    Hi Chad,
Yes. I had a similar problem. The 1st click on an iTunes hyperlink (i.e. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=97154883 ) occasionally does nothing for me in Safari. And as you described, the 2nd click usually works. I actually didn't notice the Safari window containing the link closing itself. I'll keep an eye out for that.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.2 with 2.0.3. See if running an update changes anything for you.

  • Problem with podcasts in playlists

I have a smart playlist set that plays only stuff put on my ipod that day - back in the old days (a couple of weeks ago) I used to be able to listen to music, and newly downloaded podcasts, all from the same playlist. Now, although everything added shows up in the playlist, when I highlight the playlist and click play, no podcasts play. I have to go in and choose each one individually, thus I have to keep selecting specific podcasts - they don't automatically play. The same is true when I click play on the built in "podcasts" playlist - nothing happens. I am assuming this is a consequence of the buggy new firmware, but I'm hoping someone has the same issue and/or workaround.
    Thanks for your time,
    -Chris

Yeah, I was just trying to figure out this problem as well. I'm a late software adopter, and this problem never came up.
Me, I use smart playlists and on-the-go playlists all the time to play podcasts and music, and this is a problem that they've fixed that, in fact, never was a problem before. In fact, if I now have to go into my podcasts and decheck EACH FILE's "skip during shuffle" toggle, it's going to be particularly more work- I'm quite unhappy about it.
Somehow, I don't recall a single podcast coming up in shuffle before- and if it did, it certainly wasn't a bother to simply skip it. I hate reverting to 1.1- I love every other feature in 1.2. But this playlist shuffle is ridiculous- and utterly pointless.
Anybody else find anything else that can be done about it?

  • Problem with podcast after update

I downloaded iTunes 7 and updated my iPod firmware last night. Since then iTunes downloaded the latest episode of a podcast I subscribe to. The latested podcast appears in iTunes (in podcasts) but cannot be played in iTunes. I double click on it but nothing happens, no error message, just nothing. Also when I go to sync the iPod the new podcast doesn't go onto the iPod! If I navigate to the file and play the podcast in Windows Media player it works fine.
    Can somebody please help?
    Thanks

Does anyone actually know how to get Apple's attention? I called my local Apple store, and they just gave me the old "uninstall, reinstall, reset, restore" crapola. I've been checking the iLounge and CNET forums, and this podcast issue seems to be widespread. Do we just sit around and wait, hoping Apple is gracious enough to eventually fix the problem they created?
For those of us who pay for podcasts like Coast to Coast, this situation is all the more infuriating. I can't believe Apple would release an update so flawed. I'm starting to think they did this on purpose. It sure is funny how none of the podcasts we get from iTunes seem to be affected.

  • Playlist problem with podcasts Nano 2nd g 8GB

I have podcasts that I put into playlists, and usually it will play from one to the next, but now it plays only each one individually and then goes back to the main menu, so if I have 8 podcasts of 5 minutes each, I can run for 40 minutes without touching the iPod, but now I have to reselect each one. This happened once before and I don't know what I did to fix it. I have deleted and recreated the playlists to no avail. Music goes from one to the next without a problem, but each Podcast is listed as "1 of 1" rather than "1 of 8" or whatever number.

That renames the iPod but we still have the problem of getting the right songs on to it. We have one playlist designated for the shuffle but it won't take the songs. What are we doing wrong?
