Problem with program hanging randomly on certain commands from win 7 pro client to SB Server

Having a problem with program hanging randomly on certain commands from Win-7 Pro Client to SB Server Both 64-Bit
Five other slower XP-Pro 32 Bit systems though they are older and slower systems do not seem to hang as readily if at all.
It has been very frustrating as the Client-System, SB-Server and Program should work w/o any hitches, but this seems to work fine @ times and then hang randomly.
Would appreciate any and all suggestions in assisting.... JimBAgde-MSS

You can try this, as I have had similar problems with another MS Access .MDB file and slow access before. This fixed my problem for me. On the slow computer, make sure the program is set to see the .mdb file via UNC path, not a mapped drive letter. ex.
USE:  \\yourserver\shared\dental\file.mdb
DO NOT: S:\\shared\dental\file.mdb
hope this helps

  • Problems with updatemanager hanging

    Hello,
I was just wondering if other people are having problems with updatemanager hanging when you install patches. Quit frequently we have problems where the updatemanger will get 75% done and just hang. I have even let it sit over the weekend on our test boxes and it does not proceed. You can click on cancel and the same thing nothing happens.
What is the recommend procedure for stopping updatemanger when this happens. I am assuming a kill -15, I was hoping for something more graceful with less risk.
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Update Manager community:
First, thanks to David Holmes for his suggestion that this is a Java bug related to the PKCS11 library forking problem. This is, at the very least, consistent with my observations: when things hang, it appears to hang in the java process and never seems to get where you see the various pkgadd and pkginstall processes get started.
I've made the suggested re-ordering of security providers in /path_to_java/jre/lib/security/java.security and will be watching anxiously to see if this resolves things.
Mr. Forum Moderator, have you and the other folks in UpdateManager-cental evaluated Mr. Holmes observation that this is the cause of many of the updatemanager hangs problems?
While I'm waiting to see if the changes to java.security change things, here is the set of things that I've found that help me to deal with updatemanager.
Note: my experiences apply to Solaris 10 (now u5) x86. Specifically, I am running on 3 nearly identical X4100 M2 platforms. The hanging problem seems to be intermittent in that sometimes 2 machines will update just fine and the third one will hang and it is not always the same machine that hangs. Other times, all 3 will update without hanging. When it does hang, however, prstat shows that the pkgadd, pkginstall, and related programs and scripts that do the real work never get fired off. And, as others have observed, once updatemanager hangs in this fashion, the "Cancel" button doesn't help either.
So, when things hang, these are the things that I've found to help in allowing me to restart to see if things will proceed properly the next time.
    1. ps -ef | grep update
That usually shows 2 processes related to updatemanager (one a shell script and one the actual java program) and two instances of smpatch with a list of patches.
    2. kill those 4 PIDs found in step one.
    3. rm /var/sadm/spool/sunucLog/job_history.log.lck
If this *.lck file is still in place, updatemanager won't even check for new patches.
    4. rm /tmp/.ai*
There is sometimes a file that starts with /tmp/.ai_and_a_very_long_string .... I don't know what it does, but it seems to need to be removed for another updatemanager run to be started.
    5. ps -ef | grep ccr
This usually shows 2 or more cc-ccr processes. I believe that these also need to be killed (sometimes with a kill -9) and you probably need to check to make sure that init doesn't restart these.
I certainly don't claim to be an expert on these matters .... but, at the very least, I've found that these steps help me to deal with a hanging updatemanager.
Of course, I'm hopeful that David Holmes' observations related to the PCKS11 library bug turns out to be the identification of the underlying problem .... and I thank him again for his Java debugging skills and digging through the bug database.
    Thanks,
    John

  • I have ipad 2 and facing problem with programs swtching off

I have ipad 2 and facing problem with programs it's swtching off while working and turn to home page. Am using ios 5

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Somewhere at either Macworld or here I learned that DVDSP 2, DVDSP 3 and now DVDSP 4 "internally" are major re-writes.
Support for HD among a few other items along with QT 7 which comes with Tiger means sincerely that one set of applications/OS is not going to be stable.
Personally I think of all the issues possible its DVDSP vs QT.
Unless you move to DVDSP v4 the alternative is to wipe the disk and go back to Jaguar (10.2) or perhaps Panther but avoid upgrading QT beyond 6. I advocate wiping the disk because I'n not sure an archive and install to down shift to an earlier version of the OS is possible. If it is I'd still worry about mis-matched files in all sorts of locations.

  • Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied
to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.
I noticed the following errors when this occurs:

I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes
the Group Policy Client service to stop?

You still out there looking at things? If so I have an update. The issue hasn't stopped, even though it did seemingly die down for awhile, however, it is now back with a vengeance.
I am able to force it to happen by killing the svchost process that is hosting GPSVC. If I run gpupdate /force, then logout/login it does get GPSVC running again. Furthermore, if I simply start svchost again via the Task Manager GPSVC starts running again.
When I access the server remotely with KVM it acts just like it does as if I'm logging into it via Citrix/RDP which for Admin IDs gives an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service...",
however, normal user accounts just get a message when logging into the server "The Group Policy Client Service Failed the Logon. Access is denied."
I haven't opened a case with Microsoft yet, but we about ready to because of the increase in these errors.
If you have any further suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'll provide an update once I get word back from Microsoft.
**EDIT -- apparently I mistook the the server's SCM's actions as my own. I was able to successfully crash the GPSVC service by killing the hosting svchost process, however, after I crashed it and let it sit crashed for awhile when I attempted
to restart either by starting a svchost task, or running gpupdate /force it failed. Either that, or there is a timing issue where if we don't restart the svchost process, or run gpupdate /force quickly enough it won't be able to recover without a reboot.

  • Problems with Playback in CS5, CS4 (gotoAndPlay command)

I've encountered a really frustrating issue a couple times now throughout the past year, both in CS5 and CS4.  I get to a certain point in a project where it just seems Flash does not want to cooperate anymore.  It's difficult to even explain what the issue is because it doesn't seem to  be triggered by one thing in particular, and often produces different results.  It's almost as if the file becomes corrupted.
    Here's what will happen:
*I will create symbols and place each one in its own frame on the main timeline, so that I can see them easily.  The assets will usually contain animation inside the symbol. When I'm working on a particular symbol, I will put a gotoAndStop command on the first frame of the main timeline, pointing it to the symbol I want to test.  So if I'm making a tea kettle, and have placed it on frame 4, I will put a "gotoAndStop(4);" command on the first frame.
*At a certain point, I will start having problems with test movies using this gotoAndStop method, even if I don't change any the scripting.  Sometimes it will turn off layers that aren't supposed to be guides.  Other times it will show me a blank frame.  If I replace the gotoAndStop command with a  stop command on the particular frame I want, my project will display correctly.
If it were a relatively small project, I would deal with it and test everything with the Stop command.  However, this is a fairly big, complex project, and in my experience, this issue seems to contaminate other files that these assets are copied to.
*I've double checked the scripts inside of the symbol, which are all simple "stop();" or "gotoAndPlay("label");" commands, and there's no error showing up in the Output window.
*The most random things will trigger this problem.  Sometimes, it's adding a shape tween to the symbol.  Other times, I could turn off the background layer in the main timeline by making it a guide, and all my other layers would show up.  But this background layer shouldn't affect anything, as it only has a "stop();" command inside.  I was able to fix the problem once by saving the FLA as an Uncompressed Flash Document (xlf).  When I opened the new file, it would play back correctly, but eventually, it'd break again.
I was having similar problems in CS4 on another project.  In one case, we discovered we could fix the problem temporarily by deleting a single tiny line in one of the symbols.  Eventually, it would pop up again, though.  Another time, I could fix it by blowing away all the linkage identifiers, but that doesn't seem to be working this time.
It's very odd.  Anyone have any ideas?

She didn't export it for CS4. If she had it wouldn't be an INDD file. She needs to export to IDML and you need to realize that this document may not look like it does in CS5.
You do need to upgrade if you want to work successfully with this other designer. Worth noting, in case you don't, is that you cannot upgrade individual components of the suite. Personally, I recommend Design Premium as the best bang for the buck.

  • Strange problem with desktop applications randomly freezing

    Hi guys,
Over the past two weeks I've noticed that a few, very specific applications, have been crashing horrifically for me. Specifically, they're Firefox, Chromium and Eclipse and anything else powered by Java as well. I found the Eclipse issue people talked about on here regarding the upgrade to Xulrunner, but they only partially fix my problem.
What happens is the applications will randomly freeze, completely. The gui locks up and the window becomes a grey box, and the only way I can get rid of the window is with kill -9.
I've tried figuring out what's wrong, but honestly I have no idea. I'm running 32bit Arch, with a Nvidia 8800GTX card on the official binary drivers, using Openbox. Everything as of the time of this post is up to date throug Pacman.
Also, with the amount of problems I'm seeing on Gnome3 in here, what about creating a temporary sub-forum to hold them all? It would certainly tidy this one up a lot.

My system has started "freezing". Actually, usually when I'm browsing the net, Chromium stops loading pages. Conky stops updating, and usually I can't switch to another programs. I can't start xkill from menu, menu opens but nothing starts. If I run "ls" etc in Terminal, nothing happens
I can however control+alt+F1 to CLI, but if I try to login nothing happens. If doesn't help even if I kill X (I started it with startx). And if I don't kill X, I can't go back from CLI with control+alt+F7, there's just a black screen.
I'm using Nvidia drivers also, and XFCE4. This started happening some time ago, I think I was using Gnome2 back then. And I have updated my system, and this has happened at least with 3 kernel versions. There's nothing on logs. Well, actually, there's "TCP: Possible SYN flooding on port 6881. Sending cookies" errors on everything.log. But those don't happen when system freezes. And sometimes Chromium stops loading pages but other programs don't freeze, I think it's a problem with cache or something.
Not really sure if this everything happens because of Chromium. I think I'm gonna switch back to Firefox and see what happens. Usually I'm running Chromium, Opera (use it just for a couple of pages), couple of Terminals and Kaffeine.

  • Problem with Photoshop hangs/freezing for users on a terminal server

    Dear Forum!
I'm having some trouble with Photoshop freezing over a period of ~20 minutes when you (1.) user the eraser with special brushes and (2.) copy and paste material from a PDF to Photoshop. As you might notice by the size of this post i'm getting quite depserate over here and need some help.
    A Little background information...
Photoshop CS6 is installed on a terminal server with ~25 Active users where 3 of them are using Photoshop.
The operating system on the server is Windows Server 2012 R2.
There are no additional add-ons just a plain installation of Photoshop in that matter.
The server uses 40-60% of the memory most of the time (mostly a bit less, some times a bit more but never 100%) and 40% of the CPU.
There's enough space free on the disc.
    The problem in detail...
There are two occasions where the freezing has occured most of the time. After it hangs for the first time, it will happen everytime you do any of the operations over a period of ~20 minutes and it's Mutual for all users. When it freezes, the whole terminal session freezes but the program i still responding (it's not getting set to "not responding") when viewed from Another user through the task manager. Ending the process as an administrator sometimes work, although from the moment i end he proces it takes about 10-60 seconds Before the program actually Closes and the user gets back Control. The easiest thing to do most of the time is if an administrator forces them to log out.
    1. The first occasion is when you use the eraser with a brush that's not standard but manually added. The names of the brush packages used are:
    Extacy__Elemental
    KKC_Fractal
    Kornkid's_Grunge_Set
and the problem is with all brushes inside those packages. The way i evoke the problem is the following:
         1. Start Photoshop
         2. Create new
         3. Fill the background with any color
         4. Select the eraser tool
         5. Change the brush to one of the ones mentioned above
         6. Program freezes
    2. The second scenario when the problem occurs is when the users copy something from a PDF to Photoshop. The way i evoke this is:
         1. Open a PDF
         2. Select area and copy it
         3. Open Photoshop
         4. Create new
         5. Paste into Photoshop
         6. Program freezes
Solutions we have tried so far...
I've been working on this for several round now and i'm not entirely sure on what exactly i have done. I will try and do the following solutions once more but i'm pretty sure that i have tried most of them.
    Update graphic card drivers.
    Resetting all Tools:
         1. Select options for a tool
         2. choose "Reset all Tools"
    Resetting presets:
         1. Hold ctrl + shift + alt while Photoshop is starting
         2. select "yes"
Tested if it matters if i have a pen connected or not, which it doesn't.
Removed the special brushes (but it still freezes when copy/paste from PDF)
Removed "save in background" and "automatically save recovery information" options
    Updated to latest version.
    Turned off OpenGL
Solutions i haven't, but will try...
    Reinstall Photoshop
    Change font preview size
         1. Go to "type"
         2. select "Font prview size"
         3. select "none"
    Delete system font cache
Close all Adobe applications including the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to \Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\Appdata\Local
Delete the *FNTCACHE*.DAT or *FontCache*.dat files.
NOTE: The asterisk (*) indicates various numbers, letters, or words, such as FontCache-S-1-5-21.dat or COFFfntCache.dat.
    Delete Photoshop font cache
Exit Photoshop and the Creative Cloud desktop app (if installed).
    Navigate to the appropriate folder
    Photoshop CS6 and earlier.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe
    Windows 7: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe
    Photoshop CC and CC 2014
    Windows 7 and 8: \Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC or CC 2014
         3. Delete the TypeSupport folder (Photoshop CS6 and earlier) or the CT Font Cache folder (Photoshop CC and CC 2014), and empty the trash.

    Hi Mylenium!
Thanks for your reply but since the users work on the terminal server via remote dektop the only data sent through the network is a "Picture" of what is happening on the server. All the operations are handled on and by the server and nothing is executed on the users local machine. Also all files are stored on the server therefore the load on the network is minimum.
We are not the first in the World to run this setup and i know that this is possible to do since i've read about others running PS like this.
    Kind Regards,
    J. Alm

  • Lots of problems with program

    Guys,
I really am having a lot of problems with a program. I got the program to compile but it looks absolutely nothing like it is supposed to look. I have a deadline for tomorrow and sent my teacher an email but the chances of him getting back to me by tomorrow night for a weekend is pretty much slim to none. Anyways I am sending my output and if anyone could give me advice or feedback on why it does not look right if it is something small and if its alot of things go ahead and call me dumb.
    here is my code:

Create a panel containing an array of 16 TextArea components that change color to correspond with the start, stop, and step values entered by the user. Perform the following tasks to create the Checkerboard Array application shown below. When the user enters the start, stop, and step fields and then clicks the Go button, the results are also shown below.
    1.     Call your application Checkerboard.java
    2.     You will need the following variables declare them as private:
    a.     16 component TextArea array
    b.     a Panel to hold the array
    c.     3 TextField components with length of 10
    d.     3 int variables to receive the start, stop, and step values
    e.     3 Labels to display the words Start, Stop, and Step
    f.     a Go button
    g.     a Clear button
    h.     a Panel to hold the 3 TextFields, 3 Labels, and the 2 Buttons
    3.     Create a constructor method to:
    a.     construct each of the components declared above and initializes the start, stop, and step variables to zero (when constructing the TextArea components, use the following parameters: null, 3, 5, 3)
    b.     set the Frame layout to BorderLayout
    c.     write a for loop to loop the array and set each of the 16 TextArea components in that array so they cannot be edited. In the same loop, set each of the TextArea components text to be 1 more than the index number. Also in this same loop, set the background of each of the TextArea components to white.
    d.     set the Panel for the TextArea components to GridLayout with 4 rows, 4 columns, and both gaps set to 10
    e.     set the Panel for the TextFields, Labels, and button to GridLayout with 3 rows, 3 columns, and both gaps set to 5
    f.     add the components to their respective Panels
    g.     make the buttons clickable
    h.     place the Panels in the Frame put one in the NORTH and one in the CENTER
    i.     Enter the addWindowListener() method described in the chapter this is the method that overrides the click of the X so it terminates the application
    4.     In your actionPerformed() method:
    a.     convert the data in your TextFields to int and store them in the variables declared above
    b.     write a loop that goes through the array setting every background color to blue
    c.     write another loop thats based on the user inputs. Each time the loop is executed, change the background color to yellow (so start your loop at the users specified starting condition. Youll stop at the users specified stopping value. Youll change the fields to yellow every time you increment your loop based on the step value. REMEMBER: Your displayed values are 1 off from your index numbers!!)
    5.     Write a main() method that creates an instance of the Checkerboard Frame.
    a.     set the bounds for the frame to 50, 100, 300, 400
    b.     set the title bar caption to Checkerboard Array
    c.     use the setVisible() method to display the application Frame during execution
    6.     After you get all of this complete, include error handling to make sure:
    a.     the values entered in the TextFields are valid integers
    b.     the start value is greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to 16
    c.     the stop value is greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to 16
    d.     the step value is greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to 16
    e.     the start condition is less than the stop condition
    f.     when an error occurs, give an error message in a dialog box that is specific to their error, remove the text from the invalid field, and put the cursor in that field so the user has a chance to re-enter this can be accomplished by using multiple try/catch statements
    g.     only change the colors if the numbers are valid
    7.     Create a clear button as seen in the example below. This button should:
    a.     clear out all 3 TextFields
    b.     change the background color of all TextArea array elements to white
    c.     put the cursor in the start field
    8.     Document!!
I know you guys are probably busy with your own stuff but any help and I would certainly appreciate it

got the yellow boxes to come up but just one box.....so is there something wrong with my yellow set background because I am not seeing any more errors

  • Problems with Windows and Random Crashes

For the past two days I have been having tons of problems, since I finally got around to running the security update (2006-008). I've been having loads of random crashes, most commonly from Safari, Finder and iTunes. Safari crashes usually when I close a window or interact with certain flash things. It also fails to draw the window when I close the second-to-last tab (leaving one tab), giving me a big white square that I have to close. Otherwise, random window elements (such as bookmarks bar, address bar, etc.) will disappear at random, or will be horribly mis-sized.
Finder just quits whenever it wants, I have yet to find a common thread between crashes.
iTunes crashes usually when I play a video, but also sometimes when switching from the store to a playlist, or to the library. It also suffers occasional redraw problems similar to Safari, though not as bad. Garage Band does too.
Here's the output from the last iTunes crash, if it provides any clues:
    EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    KERNINVALIDADDRESS (0x0001) at 0xffffffff
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 GetPatternIdentifier + 211
    1 SetPortPat + 103
    2 BackPixPat + 42
    3 DataEngine::ApplyBrush(TTheme*, short, unsigned char) + 76
    4 SetThemeBackground + 836
    5 SetThemeWindowBackground + 292
    6 NewFeaturesDialog + 202
7 CreateDialog(Rect const*, unsigned char const*, unsigned char, short, OpaqueWindowPtr*, unsigned char, long, char**, ColorTable**, char**, char**, unsigned long, unsigned char, AutoPositionInfo) + 175
    8 GetNewDialog + 173
    9 0x1000 + 1686314
All of my crashes have been EXCBADACCESS (0x0001) ones.
Please help, as this is a nightmare to deal with.

That error usually comes up as a result of faulty RAM. Did you buy any chance upgrade the RAM in your iMac? If so, verify that the chip is seated properly and that it is supported for your iMac.

  • Huge problems with Programs crashing on quit!!

Is anyone else having an issue with programs like Logic Pro 8, Firefox and other widely used programs that crash when you do a command-q to quit?
Mine does this all the time. I have re-installed Snow Leopard 3 times now. I have re-installed all my programs I use fresh as well, yet almost every program I close locks up the machine or just sits there and does nothing at all.
I am beginning to think I have a hardware issue on my new iMac.

    no.

did you do an erase and install or did you install snow leopard on top of your current install? if the latter make a new user account and log into it. do you have the same problem there? if you did do an erase and install then it may be hardware related as you suspect.

  • Problem with up-arrow on a long command line

I often use the "terminal" window to open up a connection (via ssh) to linux and unix boxes.
While I'm logged into the remote computer and I try to edit a previous command, I notice that my
display gets all fouled up if the command that I'm trying edit is very long. I'm unable to do the
usual unix tricks of up-arrowing to the command and then backspacing through it to perform my edits. Often my only recourse is to retype the entire command which is a pain and prone to error.
I'm using bash as my Mac shell and tcsh on the remote machines.
Has anybody experienced this? Any hints?

    It's a visual-only problem with Terminal.app.
Other than the cosmetic effect, you will find that the editing works as you expect - you might just have to be psychic with regards to telling how far to backspace and where/when to make your edits.
The problem has been there for a long time. You might have better luck setting the terminal to a different emulation (Terminal -> Preferences -> Declare terminal as:) to see if one of the other emulations work for you, or use a different terminal application such as iTerm
