Problem with QuickTime Movies From iMovie HD

I posted this earlier (on the second day of Leopard's Release), and did not get much feedback, and so thought I'd try again after people have had time to run Leopard.
I have some movies that I created using iMovie HD. I have the QuickTime version of the movie for use with Front Row.
On my G5 iMac running Leopard, the quality of the movies on Front Row is fine. However, in Leopard, the quality is lousy. The movies were made from still photos, using the Ken Burns effect. There are also transitions. On the web, on my iWeb site, the pictures take a while to come into focus. I sort of expect this on the web. However, I've found the same thing with the movie files using Front Row on Leopard. Again, this slowness in coming into focus does not appear when playing the movie on Front Row on Tiger on a G5 iMac.
Curious if anyone else has encountered problems/issues with QuickTime movies files from iMovie HD. And if so, what if any fixes are available.

Hmmmm, so it works OK in Front Row but NOT in Quicktime player? Thats odd. Front Row works worse for me!
It sounds like it may be a rendering problem with Quicktime - It has to process the file in general (or parts of the file, for example, if you export 10 pics looped in Flash, it has to process the 10 image files each time it plays it through, resulting in the first 4 or 5 images to shoot out jerkily [read LAG] unlike the rest of the movie, which is smooth). If these images in your movie are large in file size or contain tons of wacky photoshopped effects, etc, that might be whats causing the problem.
I'd check everything is updated to the latest version, repair permissions on the disk in Disk Utility, and then see if anythings improved.

Problems With Quicktime content from Apple website

I have problems visualizing various sections of the Apple website that contains quicktime content. (Safari thinks Quicktime is not installed)
for example can't see shuffle giuded tour

How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
• Disable Screen and Energy saver
• IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
• Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
• Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
• Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
• NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
Encoding
• I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
• I use Verbatim
• I use DVD-R
Burn speed set
• I set down this to x4 (or x1)
iDVD BUG
• One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
Use of Chapters
• I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
• NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
• No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
Material used to build movie
• video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
• audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
• photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.

May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

Problem with imported movies from Sony Cyber Shot

Hello all, I have an unusal problem.
My mate has got a brand new sony cybershot camera which does movies.
These movies import into iPhoto no problem with sound.
However if I then use that clip in iMovie there is no sound, it does not matter how I try to import. I have tried importing direct from the sony card, from the import menu and from dragging. Still no dice.
What should be the next step?

Soundbooth CS4 Problem with Quicktime MOV files

I know that Soundbooth CS4 should support Quicktime MOV files but I just get a placeholder image and the video doesn't play. What should I do? I don't know if it is an issue with Quicktime or with Soundbooth.

It's probably an incompatible codec in the QT. If the audio isn't AC3 and on a separate track from the video this can happen. There are still a few applications out there that will write the audio into the video track, and QT will still play it that way.
Are you attempting to edit video with Soundbooth?
If you are it's not a good idea.
You really should be using Premiere or Efter Effects to edit video, and leave Soundbooth for audio work.
If you have QT Pro, try extracting the audio from the MOV and save THAT as an MOV of just the audio. SB should have no problem opening that/

Problem with importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5

Having trouble importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5. The computer is reading HD camcorder but Iphoto is coming up and not Imovie. I don't have any still pics and SD movies. When I go into imovie camcorder does not show up. Any suggestions?

Did your "Camcorder" ever worked with iMovie? If so, what version were your running?
What version of iMovie are you currently running: iMovie 8.0.5 or iMovie 8.0.6?
What version of the OS are you currently running: 10.6.2 or 10.6.3?

Problem with exporting movie from FC4.5 to Quicktime

I recently just finished a film, after completing the final renders and exporting the project to quicktime, it dropped certain parts of audio. Thinking this might have been a stupid error on my part, I opened FC4.5 and played the project. Everything played fine, none of the audio cut out? Something seems to be happening to the project during the exportation process? Has this happened to anybody and can anybody suggest a way to fix this problem.
I have tried removing the audio tracks that disappeared and placing them again, nothing. I recompressed and still nothing, please I'm out of ideas.

Aspect ratio problem with Quicktime Conversion from FCE HD 3.5

I have a FCE 3.5 HDV project (16:9 aspect ratio) which I am trying to export using Quicktime Conversion for eventual web-streaming. I have tried various settings including "maintain aspect ratio" and the "letterbox" options. After every multi-hour attempt, the end result is just what I need, except the aspect ratio is always 4:3 and vertically squeezed.
What settings should I use for a small to medium sized version of my movie for streaming on a website, but in the correct aspect ratio? I'd prefer a 16:9 Quicktime frame, or at least a 4:3 Quicktime frame with black bars.

I too have been having some problems, same software. Export to iPod completely ignores the intended aspect ratio and is non-adjustable and squeezes the footage. It looks fine on the canvas but gets messed up on export. A 4:3 video that should be 640x480 ends up being 640x426, and a 16:9 video that should be 640x360 looks to be getting 640x426 as well.
Currently, my work-around is to export to DV file, then export to iPod. Being a double encoding, it is quite wasteful in terms of time and processing power. Is there something else I can do?

Problem with quicktime movie

Hi all,
I am trying to make some first steps with the video editing in photoshop cs6 but I cant make past stage one....getting a file to open properly.
I shot some video on my panasonic gf1. Its a .mov file.
When I look at it in bridge, or open it in PS cs6 it only gives sounds but no image.
I have updated photoshop today.
So I guess I have some settings wrong...
Maybe I had wrong settings in my camera.
What to do?
I can watch the video's with windows mediaplayer.

Ha, wait!
I solved it myself, by accident. I didnt have quicktime on my computer.
I downloaded it. installed it, restarted my computer, and now it works.

Problem with QuickTime movie in YouTube

I uploaded some videos taken with myphone and needed to rotate them, which I did using QT Pro. Looks great. But when I uploaded the video to YouTube it is still the wrong orientation. I spliced three clips together and that worked... just not the rotation. Any suggestions would be GREAT Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Go into quicktime, edit-->preferences. Hit the File Types tab. Make sure that quicktime is set as the default movie player for the types of movies you are watching.
See if that helps...

Problems with downloading movies from iTunes on my iPad

When I buy a movie in iTunes it just says "waiting" and it never starts downloading - what can I do?
I'm from Denmark where movies have just been released simultaneously with the release of iOS5, maybe a start-up mistake or what do you think?
I've tried it twice now, with both "Senna" and "Inside Job"..

With files as large as movies can be - make sure that you have ample storage capacity available on your iPad in order for the movies to download.
You can try restarting the iPad and see if the downloads will resume as well, or launch iTunes on you computer and go to Store>Check for Available Downloads, and download the movie to iTunes and then sync the movies to the iPad.
Make sure that you are signed into the correct account on your iPad - Settings>Store>Apple ID.

I've had a problem with downloading movies from iTunes

I have been downloading a tv series (firefly) from the iTunes store. For the last four downloads I've done were automatically repeated after completing before I could watch them. I have a slow Internet and each video is around 500kb witch for me takes about two hours but as I waited for one to be done I had been watching another previous episode and when I went back to check if it was done it had restarted back at 0kb downloaded. That might have been why (watching another video when it finished it's download) it restarted or it might have been the fact that I had lost internet connection half way through the download and had to retry the download (but that didn't start me back at zero, it started where I left off). I don't know what the problem is here it might just be my bad Internet but if anyone else knows differently please tell me.

From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30) or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
