Problem with raid set on xserve

Hi to all!
I hope you can help me with a big problem that I have with a Xserve of the work.
Yesterday afternoon I come to the work and my partners mentioned to me that the web pages were not going. I tried to connect with ARD but he was not answering. I had to move to the building where the server is racked and when I connected a monitor a it was showing me a folder icon with an interrogation icon.
Since this had happened to me in my Mac of the office once, I initiated from the installation DVD to see if I could repair permissions and/or the discs with the Disk Utility. For my surprise (and terror) does not show any volume or disk except the DVD.
I got into the RAID Utility in the menu and there I could see the discs but the RAID Sets does not appear... We had mounted since we install the machine a raid 5 with 3 discs and 2 volumes on this raid set.
Then, from the Terminal, doing "diskutil list" it's show no volume on any disk.
I suppose that something has happened with the volumes and the raid cannot be mounted...
Is there any way to  mount the volumes again? Something similar to the "fixmbr" that I believe that there are in others OS to restore the volumes tables...
Is there any way to mount again the RAID without losing the information from the discs?
Do you know that can be happening?
PS: It is a Xserve of the last ones, with Mac OS X 10.6.8. I have already tried to reset the PRAM and it keeps on doing the same.

The Server Monitr does say anything. It doesnt pick up any server. I tried to add the XServe in the Server Monitor, but it keeps waiting for a reply after I have put in the username, password and IP address.
It is an XServe with a Mirror software RAID on the 2 x Internal Hard Drives within the XServe
I am not using the SAN software
There have been reports of fault latchs on the Apple Drive Bay Modules. Do you think this could be causing the units to dismount?

  • Problem with subform set

    Hi all ,
    I am facing a problem with subform set. When i use two subform sets with same set of conditions in a form, only the first subform set works while the second one does nothing. Did any of you faced the same problem ? If so Please let me know the solution you came up with. Thanks.
    SrPrabhu

    Hi scott,
    The problem is with subform set and not subform. In subform set, we can give conditions to make only one subform visible at a time that satisfies the condition. First create a subform set having more than one subform. Now apply the conditions to that subform set. Check if it works. I m sure it wil work. Now just make a duplicate copy of the same subform set. Place it in the same form so that now two subform sets are available. Now preview the form. U wil fine only one subform set working and the other one doesnt.
    We can use any number of subform set within a form. If different conditions are applied to each subform set , it works fine.
    i wonder now wat wud u do in case if we are in need of two subformset having the same condition in a form ?
    Thanks,

  • Weird Problem with FSB setting

    Hi all,
    I've just come across a weird problem with FSB setting.
    If I set FSB to 229 my machine runs @ 1.6Ghz only.
    When I set to 230 it runs @ 3.2Ghz (as it should).
    Any ideas what could be causing this?
    Thanks

  • Problem Rebuilding RAID set with 10.5?

    I have 1 RAID set (mirrored with autorebuild) composed of 2 (identical) HD. I got a message in 10.5 Disk Utility that one disk had failed and that the set was degraded.
    I replaced the drive and I am getting an error message during the rebuild "Unrecognized filesystem".
    I can still see and access my RAID set (1 slice still ok) so minimal damage here but I don't understand why I am getting this error message when trying to rebuild.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    -mirrored raid set
    - autorebuild selected

    Hi VK2CPJ,
    Today ( I slept on this idea was exhausted from previous day) tried on two blank eide drives in a raid box, no raid built just two independent drives, one set for master the other slave. A couple of observations:
    I did not raid because I want one small partition to contain a Leopard boot install from the DVD. The message I received from disk utility was that if I restore that DVD my raid may be unusable(if I did raid). So I did not raid the drives but let them stand as master and slave. I wanted to do a APM on the small "boot" partition to see if my intel and PPC Mac would in fact boot from that restored Leopard DVD boot partition. I used start up pane on both PPC and intel and they would not boot up from that Leopard partition even though the start up pane showed the disk as a startup device. Using the option key booted both Macs. Now I'm not sure if doing this was to procedure because the Apple docs says to use a PPC Mac to do this process. Which I have a difficult time to understand. I'm assuming that the doc says that because APM would be default and assisting the user not to make any option mistake. So currently I'm trying this same procedure using a PPC Mac to test out whether start up pane will boot both Macs. I don't think it will but do think using option within the start up manager will work. If so then does this mean imply that the start up pane has a bug or that user does not require a PPC Mac to do the setup process. Let you know shortly.

  • Upgrading Xserve with RAID set

    Hi,
    I have been asked to upgrade a copy of Server 10.3 to 10.4. I don't like upgrading, so will do a clean install and then restore all of the SA and WGM data back into the server. Here is the question:
    The XServe has 3 bays - bay 1 has the startup disk and bay 2 and 3 have a mirrored RAID set. Is the RAID config data held in the OS, so if I reinstall the system will the configuration data for the RAID set be lost and will I have to re-RAID the server? Or is the config data stored on the drive and so a re-install won't affect the RAID set?
    Many thanks,
    JS

    I would like to know if the RAID 'config' data is
    actually written onto the drive or is stored in the
    OS. I first thought it would be stored in software
    because Disk Utility uses software RAID, but then
    again a single drive has the partition data on the
    drive.
    James,
    If you think about it a bit, software RAID information has to be on the drive because the volume becomes a RAID before a filesystem is created and before an install is done. Likewise, a hardware raid is done on the interface card and comes up the same way. Neither can know which of the members of the mirror are available at first boot; otherwise, there would be a single point of failure during boot, and the whole purpose of a RAID 1 mirror would be lost.
    The bootstrap starts on the mirror primary, then, as the driver is brought online and before any writes are done, the driver collects the members of the RAID 1 mirror set and forms the mirror. If the mirror primary isn't available, then the mirror secondary is used (which has an exact copy except for stuff indicating that it is the secondary). All this happens normally during boot, as if from a single non-RAID drive, until the cutover is made to RAID early in the driver intialization.
    That's why booting from a RAID 0 (stripe) is so hard - all of the data is not present on a single drive. It can be done, but it is hard and requires special care during the boot.
    You really do want to make the upgrade to AppleRAID 2 before spending time on the update, though. There are details in this article on afp548.com:

  • Filename problem with RAID

    All,
    We have a problem with our Xserve RAID with regards to the way files are named. For example we have a file called "081bSelecting_SkyArea#18.tif" which will not copy to our RAID. If i was to copy this to our Xserve it would be fine, but as soon as it goes down the Fire Channel it says we have the incorrect permissions. As soon as i rename the file it works fine.
    I under stand from the link below that there has been issues like this in the past with 10.2, but i am unable to find anything with regards to 10.3 server which is what we are using.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107144
    Many thanks for your time.
    Darren Senadhira

    Not sure. That bug you're referring to has to do with file sharing (e.g. AFP or SMB), it doesn't say anything about direct-connected fibre channel.
    Wish I had a server with RAID attached to tinker with this right now, but alas I don't at the moment. Any chance you can avoid using the #xx at the end of the file names?

  • Firmware update problem with raid mirrored drives and solution

    Note this - the firmware update will not install from a software mirrored boot drive. It will install just fine from a non-mirrored clone. So, make a clone, set it as your boot drive from system preferences, and all is good.

    Well this is a pain, this is what I figured I would have to do but c'mon apple, I am sure people are not going want to hassle with making a clone, finding or buying a single drive to install the OS to, boot that drive, install the firmware patch, reboot, make sure it took, tear down the system, swap the soft-RAID set of drives back in etc. etc. etc.
    This is another reason why Apple need to take note from the PC world, I know they like to "Think Different" when it comes to things like this but they really need to give access to and write a driver for the supported on-chip hardware RAID controller located in the Motherboards Southbridge chip of THIS motherboard, just like all other woodcrest Xeon based systems running the same intel motherboard chipset!
    I am sure this post will get me a long list of flames from the Apple fanboys explaining how what Apple is doing is really better, or telling me that if I want hardware RAID 5 to just go and buy $6000 xServe RAID setup.
    Well I better quit typing so I can tear apart my system, find a hard drive to install OSX on.....See you guys in a few hours

  • Anyone else having problem with RAID and iTunes syncing photos in Vista?

    Hello,
    For whatever reason iTunes can not load some of the photos from C drive. It can do it from D drive, though VERY slow. Both C and D are NTFS system, but C is a RAID 0 drive (implemented by hardware on motherboard, Intel 82801G controller). I just wander if this is something related to iTunes not working correctly with RAID drivers, or is it something else? I should say that ALL other programs and games working fine on this drive.
    Thanks for the replies.

    The problem is with Windows Vista using the NTFS file system, check out this post for the official solution. This has worked perfectly for me everytime I've tried it:

  • Problem with layer sets opening

    Hi,
    I have a problem open layer sets. In my script I get layers index and then iterate throught this layers.
    Here is the script:
    function getAllLayersByIndex(){
           function getNumberLayers(){
           var ref = new ActionReference();
           ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID("Prpr") , charIDToTypeID("NmbL") )

           return executeActionGet(ref).getInteger(charIDToTypeID("NmbL"));
           function hasBackground() {
               var ref = new ActionReference();
               ref.putProperty( charIDToTypeID("Prpr"), charIDToTypeID( "Bckg" ));

        for(var i = groups.length-1; i >= 0 ; i--) {
          makeActiveByIndex( groups[i], true );
          ....working with layers....
    I think, my problem is in function makeActiveByIndex, because it doesn't make active a folder and doesn't open it.
    You can see it on this picture. Active layer set is "Skupina 1" and it is in layer set "hlavicka". But "hlavicka" is not open. WHY??
    Can you help me fix this problem??
    Thank you Domaneni

  • Problem with fingerprint setting

    Hey, i bought an iphone 5s yesterday. I set up the fingerprint yesterday and it worked fine. But after that i faced some problem with the system so i reset the wholephone and edit and deleted my original fingerprint. but after that, my phone cant reenter the fingerprint. it can't read any fingerprint and the name is changed to touch id. what should i do with it?

    Hello annteoeena,
    Congratulations on your iPhone 5s, and thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when using Touch ID.  I recommend following the steps below for an issue like the one you described:
    Troubleshooting Touch ID
    Verify that you are using the latest version of iOS.
    Ensure that your fingers and the Home button are clean and dry.*
    Note: Cover the Home button completely. Don't tap too quickly, don't press down hard, and don't move your finger while Touch ID is scanning.
    Tap Settings > General > Passcode & Fingerprint > Fingerprints and verify:
    Passcode Unlock or iTunes & App Store is enabled.
    One or more fingerprints have been enrolled.
    If one finger isn't working, tap Edit in Settings > General > Passcode & Fingerprint > Fingerprints > Edit to delete and then reenroll the finger.
    If that finger still isn't working, try enrolling a different finger.
    If you are unable to enroll any of your fingers, take your iPhone 5s to an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact AppleCare for further assistance.

  • Problems with version sets

    I have PSE 6. When I open a JPG from the Organizer using Full Edit and then try to save, I do not get the option to save the image in a version set (even though I do have the Organizer option checked). However, I noticed that invoking Full Edit also prompts the Organizer to say there is a new file in the watched folders. This "new" file is the very same file in the very same location. If I accept to add the file to the Organizer I get two thumbnails in the Organizer, both pointing to the same file on disk. If I do this then the "Edit In Progress" banner appears on the "new" thumbnail and the editor does allow me to add the image to the version set. I am sure that I did not have to do this before, I would expect Full Edit to just open the image, mark it in the Organizer as being edited, not try to add it back to the catalog and allow me to save the edit in a version set. What might be causing this behaviour?
    I also have similar and I think related problems with RAW images too, but I am hoping that resolving the above will resolve the RAW issue too.

    I should have said that I did try that but it still prevented me from creating a new version in a version set when saving. It is as if the editor needs to start on a copy of the Organizer's entry to allow version sets, as if the original is somehow "locked". Could that be possible?

  • Problem with character set - Reports 11.1.1.4

    Hi!
    I have a problem with Oracle Reports 11g regarding character set configuration. The default character set WE8ISO8859P1 works, so PDF reports have a regular display except for Eastern European (EE) letters which are replaced by "¿" sign.
    So, when I set any other character set in reports.sh, which would be a normal step to get EE letters, I'm always getting Greek Alphabet in PDF reports. Why Greek Alphabet?
    The character sets I tried to use are: EE8ISO8859P2, UTF8 and AL32UTF8.
    I changed uifont.ali and included PDF Subset with all four Arial font variants and, of course, I placed all fonts in fonts folder which is pointed by REPORTS_FONT_DIRECTORY.
    In Reports Builder everything works fine, but when I have to deploy the report to the Reports Services, the problem occurs.
    Also, when I've tried to execute PDF report using In-Process Reports Server (rep_wls_reports_hostnameasinst1) instead of AS Instance Reports Server (RptSvr_hostnameasinst1, which is a regular server), I'm getting Greek Alphabet in PDF reports even if the default character set is WE8ISO8859P1 in reports.sh. What is wrong with it? Where is Greek Alphabet configured?
    The production environment is 64-bit Oracle Linux 5.6 with Weblogic 10.3.4 and Forms&Reports 11.1.1.4. Forms works fine with character set EE8ISO8859P2 defined in default.env file.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Dejan

    Thank you, Denis!
    Doc 300416.1 was very useful but Note 356221.1 - A Practical Methodology on Porting Reports from Windows to Unix with Different Font is actually crucial for configuring Reports on Linux.
    Also, there is a bug in 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.1.4, which can be fixed using the patch ( Note 1138405.1 - PDF Reports With Font Subsetting Raises Error "Bad /Bbox" on 64-Bit Linux ).
    Kind regards!

  • NAS with RAID set up

    I want to set up a NAS with RAID option. I have my imac (with leopard) and couple of PCs (vista) at home. I also have an xbox which i use media player (sorry no apple TV) for photos etc. Do you have any suggestion which is the best option that with support both PC and Mac. I would also like to use my NAS as my itune server and store my other media file.
    I am not a digitally savvy person and am looking for a simple option.

    I have been happy with the ReadyNAS line from Netgear (formerly Infrant). They have information and very active user forums where you can ask specific questions at: http://www.readynas.com

  • Problem with version sets in Elements 12

    I have just started using elelments 12.  I have been having problems with inconsistency in forming version sets.  Some sets forms as expected.  However, quite often after editing, when returning to Organizer the edited picture is not in a version set with the original and in fact is not even visible.  I can get to the edited version only through the "Open" tab in the Editor.  I have check the appropriate "Save in version set" in the save menu. Suggestions?

    Seems you have the same problem :
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1309160?start=0&tstart=0
    The source of the problem is not clearly found today. It seems that happens on previously converted catalogs.
    A workaround seems to have been found : killing the autoanalyzer.exe process in the task manager.

  • License problems with RAID systems

    We are running a Labview vision 8.0 application on a XP SP2 system with RAID controller. The purpose is to be able to quickly recover from any harddisk problems. Do I have to reactivate the licenses when I swap the harddisks?

    Hi,
    As your RAID controller is just an external harddrive, the vision license is essentially running on the same machine so the same license can be used on different controllers.
    There's no need to deactivate for each controller, as long as the license is being used on one system I don't believe you would be violating the licensing agreement.
