Problem with repaired neo fis2r

I am experiencing performance problems with my neo tha t I am not sure where to begin trouble shooting. I had an video card falure(delaminated pin on agp ) which resulted in damage to the agp slot I rma 'd my neo and it returned marked repaired with a grey agp slot , bios 1.4 ( had 1.6 installed) and the same serial #. I reinstalled all components. noted the retrograde bios and flashed to 1.8. then I attempted to return all settings to theyre original state only to find that I can't overclock! previously I got 250mhz clock with perf mode set to ultra turbo and ram set to 333mhz . now I can't get past perf mode fast and 205mhz no matter what. I see references to bios 1.8 as being not very overclockable.this may be the problem but  the waters have been muddied by the multitude of events. I am not an expert and do not know where to start. I was so thrilled with the performance of my neo and now I am at a loss . Is the bios responsible for this abysmal performance or is my system still compromised? I don't know what to do to determine its state. my system is as follows:-
neo fis2r( of course)
2.4c p4 with zalman alcu 7000
ati 8500dv
512mb samsung 400mhz ram
seagate barracuda sata 150 raid 0
pci modem card
thermaltake xaser2 case
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
kev

essentially I am not just concerned about it's current inability to overclock. but more in the fact that b4 the repiar of the board I was able to overclock with no difficulty and no special considerations. in fact when I look at my little log of bios settings the agp clock was set at 66.6/33.3 after all the overclocking. and now with EXACTLY the same components( ati card repalced but physically identical)  none of those same settings work. did the failure damage other components whose failure is not yet critical path or has the bios upgrade caused instability?

  • Help! XP install problems with K8T Neo-FIS2R

The other day I put together a new system for a friend.  I got the system to POST properly, the diagnostic lights on the D bracket are fine, and I can edit the BIOS, and the BIOS sees all the drives properly.
However, installing XP Pro has been impossible.  I set the system to boot first to the CD, then to the hard drive (from the BIOS).  After booting to the CD, I never see the message I am used to seeing ("Press any key to boot from CD...) when booting from the XP Pro install disk.  The system thinks about things for a long time with a blank screen, then later it finally begins to do the install.  Things appear normal at this point as in any other time I have installed XP Pro.  I reformat the hard drive to start clean and then the XP install files are copied over.  I get the standard message that the system will reboot and this is where things get flaky.  The system reboots, but I never get the message once again on whether or not to boot from the CD.  So after a while the system tries to install XP once again (it would repeat this process forever....trust me).  I've popped the CD out right after the system reboots so it will try to go to the hard drive.  I just get some kind of boot failure message and to insert the bootable media or whatever.  I've even gone into the BIOS right after the reboot to switch the BIOS loading to try and load the hard drive first.  This still doesn't give me the desired results.
This is by far the weirdest thing I've ever experienced when doing an install.  I've installed XP Pro on at least 15-20 desktops/laptops of different configs and never ran into this before.
The BIOS settings are stock.  I didn't see anything in there that was really needed tweaking or that hadn't "set itself".  I haven't messed with the SATA or RAID stuff since it's not really necessary in this situation.
    Here are the system specs:
    --Antec 430 True Power PSU
    --K8T Neo-FIS2R mobo
    --AMD 3000+ 64 bit CPU
--40GB Maxtor HD (master on IDE1)
    --Lite-On DVD-ROM drive (slave on IDE1)
--80GB Western Digital (8MB buffer) (master on IDE2)
    --Sony DRU510A DVD-RW (slave on IDE2)
    --(2) Kingmax 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 Model# MPXC22D-38
    --ATI 9800 Pro
    --3.5 Floppy
All the components except the mobo, CPU, and memory are from another AMD system that was running fine.  No problems with any of the HD's or the optical drives.  All new components were purchased from newegg.
I thought that maybe I had a problem with the jumpering of the drives so I messed with those in about every possible combination.  I took IDE2 completely out of the system and just tried to get it running with the 40GB Maxtor and the Lite-On drive.  I tried about every master/slave/cable select combination but nothing was working.  In certain combinations the BIOS recognized everything as I intended.  I've pulled everything off that doesn't need to be connected.  Keyboard, monitor, and internal components are the only things connected.
I don't consider myself to be a guru at this business, but I can get through most things with enough trial and error.  This really has me stumped.
    Any help is certainly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Heath

  • Major Problems with 875P Neo-FIS2R

    Current Issue:
Upgraded to BIOS 1.6, waited for it to return to the C: prompt.  Did a CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart, went through setup to make my 3Ware RAID controller the boot device.  No other changes from default.  Booted, it would get 1/2 way to booting Windows XP and then reboot itself (1st time I have seen that).  So I powered it off (at the PS), waited 30s, powered it back on. Nothing, nada, ne rien.  No the board won't even power on.  I checked the PS, I am getting a +5V DC from the second power pin from the right on the bottom and +5V at the power switch jumper.  The network LED is also lit.
    Previous problems:
The board shipped with BIOS 1.2.  It would intermittently freeze up, sometimes right after WinXP loaded, sometimes the next day.  Then it just decided not to go beyond the BIOS splash page.  At first I could power off, wait an hour, then it would boot, but after a couple of times it wouldn't boot at all and just hung with the MSI logo on.
I removed one stick of my Corsair Value Select 512MB PC3200 memory (VS512MB400) from slot 3 and left the other in slot 1.  This allowed it to boot, I had done a CMOS reset earlier in attempts to fix the booting issue so I chose to use the default BIOS settings.  I then upgraded to BIOS 1.6, see above for details on what happened.
Note: all settings were at default, no overclocking attempts, no alterations to memory power settings, etc.

    No sorry doesn't work.
As I wrote a view posts back, the bord doesn't start when the bios hasn't been reset.
This morning a completely stripped my PC, got the board out en connected only a floppy drive, but the board just won't start.
I have check if it could be the PSU but it works fine.
    So a little summery:
    * Board only starts after a CMOS CLEAR
    * Power button works (tested it)
    * PSU works (tested it)
    * BIOS settings are right (Vdram @ 2.7, etc)
    Any ideas?

problem with PT8 NEO Y VGA ATI SAPHIRE 9250SE

From the VGA test report: http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/6799/vga.pdf for the board , i can't find ATI Radeon 9250SE , but it is obvious that MSI only tested their Nvidia cards and no ATI cards. So, you'd better to try Nvidia cards or contact your VGA vendor to ask if there is the latest VGA BIOS to solve your issue.
Anyway, remember to tell us the results .

  • 6600GT not working with K8T neo-FIS2R

I recently returned a K8T NEO-FIS2R MB for repair. The problem was that the PS/2 and USB ports were broken. However the MB has been returned and the PS/2 and USB ports work fine. I posted about this several months ago.
Now the AGP port seems to be broken (not the actual slot). I have tried a 6800 Ultra and a 6600 GT (AGP version) GFX card in this slot. Both cards fail at the driver installation point. I have tried driver versions 66.93, 67.02 and 67.03. I also tried 3 versions of the via drivers 451, 453 and 455. Even tried XP with SP1 and SP2. The PC will sometimes BSOD, reset, won't boot into windows. The drivers sometimes install then other times they won't, etc. The problems only seem to be with the drivers for the GFX cards.
The 6600 GT works as I have tried it in another MB without any problems.
I know the memory works fine as I used memtest86+ for a couple of hours on the default settings without any errors and it works in another PC.
The spec of the PC is:
    XP pro
    K8T NEO-FIS2R MB
    512MB corsair XMS at 2.5-3-7-3
    XFX 6600GT
    40gig HDD
    FDD
    Plextor CD writer
    DVD Rom
    PSU is a Q-tec 550W
I know Q-tec PSUs are not up to much from what I have read elsewhere in this forum, but I have had it running in a similar system with the 6800 Ultra installed without any trouble (even with the above MB before it went faulty). I have also tried a 400W PSU, that came with the case. The Voltages on the 12V line are between 12.00 and 12.03 when using the Q-tec PSU.
Has any body else had these problems with the 6600GT in the mentioned MB.
Also, how can I check the serial number on the MB with the label on the box, as this MB that was returned to me looks to “clean” to be the one I sent away for repair.
    Thanks for any help

Hey, I'm glad to see a post on the new Gforce 6600GT AGP card.  I just recently put together a brand new system (see my sig for specs).  System runs great.  The only thing I wanted to do was replace the video card, and after a great deal of anxiety I decided the Geforce 6600GT AGP was the best bang for the buck.
Well I got home, installed the card and never get passed the bios screen.  (shows your processor, memory, memory siz), the screen u hit DEL to go into the bios.
The system doens't lock up, NUM LOCK can still be turned on and off, and CAPS can be turned of and on... but thats it.  Just sits on that screen.  I can't go into the bios either.
what settings do I need to do prior to isntalling this card to get it to work.
Let me know if you all need anymore details to help me out.
oh, I did reset my frequency to 10x200 (which is what I think the 3000+ is supposed to be at).

Got a strange problem with a computer that got a P35 Neo system board.
The problem I got, is that the computer don't boot. If I reset the CMOS,
I can get the computer to boot, but then it hungs on loading Vista.
Then I try to repair my Vista. Then the computer hungs while loading the DVD.
I have tried to boot with only one RAM in the computer, but the problem still
    there...
I have tried to reset the CMOS by changing the JPBAT (I think it called so) jumper
and to pull out the battery.
I have tried to disconnect all, but one HDD and but I can't say that it worked any
    better...
Any ideas how to find out the error?

  • Need help with 875P Neo-FIS2R!! No on board lan??

Hey i just  got the 875P Neo-FIS2R, it came with bios 1.2 on it.
At that point I got everything working nice, INcluding the onboard lan card. I then went to live update bios to 1.6 through windows and I had no problems, but after I restarted my comp. it came back on with out detecting the onboard lan?? It was detected before, but ever since I updated to bios 1.6, it doesn't dectect the lan anymore!!! Anything I can do??

It could be something simple. Did you check to see if the onboard LAN is Enabled in the Bios?
    I'd check that first!

  • Registry/boot problem with K8T Neo mobo (solved)

    I got similar problem: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=40752&sid=
Though my error message is: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"
I did NOT have this problem before i enabled the Realtek gigabit ethernet controller in BIOS.. But now when it is enabled everything runs/installs/reboots fine... until i shut down and when i turn power on next day i get that error message.
So: when Realtek 8169/8110 gigabit ethernet NIC is enabled in BIOS, necessary drivers installed and system shut down, registry get corrupted while shutting down.
I had AMI BIOS 1.1 when got this first time (after enabling realtek), flashing to 1.2 didn't help.
I also tried newest realtek 8169/8110 drivers (5.611.1231.2003) instead of original (5.606.811.2003)(they're still in msi neo-fis2r page i see) but it didn't help either.
So, any suggestions? i believe the integrated realtek causes the problem because it didn't occur before i enabled it from bios->integrated stuff...  or is there any other possible reason?
oh, msinfo32 says that radeon 9800XT, IEEE1394 controller (firewire in audigy2) and realtek controller share the same IRQ 16.. i removed firewire controller but it didn't help.. could radeon and realtek sharing the same IRQ be the problem?

Didn't try the external yet, i'll still try something with this.
:: Do you have a home network setup, or connect straight to modem?
    straight to modem.
i doubt it is the audigy, it worked before... and i've disabled everything i don't need like onboard audio, onboard 1394.. (never installed 'em)
i noticed one thing: all people with similar problems are running win2000 SP4, you run XP so it's ok.
MS knowledge base says "If one or two registry hives consistently become corrupted for no reason, the problem probably occurs at shutdown and is not discovered until you try to load the registry hive at the next restart. In this scenario, the registry hive is written to disk when you shut down the computer, and this process may stop the computer or a component in the computer before the writing is completed." http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822705
so something (realtek?) is writing to the registry while i shut down the pc.
i'm gonna disable realtek before shutdown & see if it boots without errors... if it does, i'll just have to disable it *always* before shutdown.... sounds like driver error for me?

  • High frequency sound with K8T Neo-FIS2R

    Hello!
I have the MSI k8t neo-fis2r mainboard with bios v 1.6 and sometimes it makes a horrible high frequency sound and I cant figure out why.
    My system are:
    amd 64 3000 cpu and
    Corsair Value S PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB Unbuffered, Non-parity, 64Megx64, CL2.5
My other components does not cause the sound (that I have found out by testing).
I wonder if the ram causes the sound? Can you please help me. The sound is so bad that I cant use my computer. It only appers during heavy system load, and not in windows. It has nothing to do with my video card (because I have tried with several different cards). My bios settings are default values + cool and quit enabled. I have the core center installed so the progam controls the cpu fan.
I really hope someone can help me.

The sound does not come from the speaker and I dont think it comes fom the cpu fan either. I think it comes from the motherboard, ram or the cpu. When I dont use my mouse it is quit but when I clik it makes this sound. Can it be that I have to set all values in bios for ram etc. manually instead of automatic?
When it comes to other electrical sources I have a TV standing 0.5 meter from the computer. Could thins cause the problem? I did not have the problem with my old motherboard which was a MSI K7T Turbo2.
The sound usually appers when I am benchamarking my system. For example 3dmark 2004. Because of this I thougt there was a problem wiht my vga card but after a changed to a new one...the situation was just the same.

  • Booting "issues" with K8T Neo-FIS2R

Well hello everyone. First of all I want to say that my English isn't completely error-free and my problem might seem awkward because of my ways of expression.
I also want to say that i've read alot of threads and searched the forum for my problem.
For a couple of days ago I got all my parts for building my 64bit-system and I build her up. To my suprise it booted, with almost no errors. Although I could install Windows XP and use it completely, everytime I boot it (under the booting sequence) it says "Bios is not installed", although I can enter bios simply (like everyone else) just pushing the DEL-button.
But this isn't the only problem. When I enter PC Health Status it says that the cpu is running at whooping 62-65 degrees. When i have my hand around the cpu-cooler it doesn't even feel warm so I think it has something to do with my BIOS-version that i am running now (Yes, I've read that in much more threads)
Also I have problems using the Cool'n'Quiet technology. I have it supported in the BIOS and activated it although it will not work (maybe it has something to do with the bios?) With this i mean that i will not go underclocked (It's allways 2.2 GHz)
My final problem is that it sometimes takes the system 2 minutes to boot sometimes, it happend after i flashed the bios to 1.7 from 1.0
    Under these circumstances I've used 1.0 AND 1.7 BIOS-versions.
I've never overclocked the computer either.
    What could be wrong?
    I'm using 3200+ 2.2GHz Athlon 64 cpu.
    K8T Neo-FIS2R
    Radeon 9800pro
