  • Problem with Runtime.exec()

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem with Runtime.exec() . I have a batch file with debug option to FTP the desktop file to mainframe. When I executed this in Windows it's shows me the responce from the server (like ' Transfer Completed' ) for my FTP commands. But when I launch this through java it's only shows the errors not the normal responces from the server. I need this responses to confirm the proper transfer of file.
    My Java Code:
    String strCommand = "cmd.exe /c " + outdirectory + batchfilename;
    boolean bWait = true;
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process pr = r.exec(strCommand);
    BufferedInputStream bis =new BufferedInputStream(pr.getInputStream ());
    int c=0;
    /** Outlet for IO for the process **/
    while (c!=-1) {
    c=bis.read();
    /**Now wait for the process to get finished **/
    if(bWait == true){
    pr.waitFor();
    pr.destroy();
    My Batch file is :
    FTP -n -d -s:C:\IT2.cmd > C:\tIT2.log
    EXIT
    Thanks
    Sathiesh

    Ahh, you are redirecting the standard out from the ftp command to a file, therefore no output is sendt back to your java code,
    you have to redirect the stderr stream, not the stdout stream in your batch file;
    FTP -n -d -s:C:\IT2.cmd 2> C:\tIT2.log(notice the "2>" instead of ">")
    Now your batch file should direct the error stream to the log, and the standard output back to the java program.
    (I'm used to UNIX streams, not NT, but the "2>" redirection should work on NT also I guess)

  • Problems with runtime.exec()

    Hi All,
    I am having a problem using runtime.exec()
    in servlet to call a java file from the server.The server is a linux one and i am using a tomcat server-4.1.24 the server contains
    some java files which i need to invoke with the help of the servlet program so i try to use exec() in servlet to invoke a particular java file in the server.The program is compiling well but no information
    is displayed on the browser.Where in the servlet program i try to print the details of the particular java program that is in the server.For ur
    reference i will post the code :-
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class ExeServlet extends HttpServlet
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req,HttpServletResponse res)throws ServletException,IOException
    try
    String path = getServletContext().getRealPath("/var/jakarta/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes/ServletExample.java");
    /*Where it is the path of the java file that resides in the server machine(linux)Which i want to invoke and print its details on the browser*/
    Runtime runtime=Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc=runtime.exec(path );
    BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(proc.getInputStream()));
    res.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter pw=res.getWriter();
    pw.println("<b>");
    String line=null;
    while((line=br.readLine())!=null)
    { pw.println(line); //Displaying the details of the ServletExample.java file in the browser
    pw.println("</b>");
    catch (Exception e)
    pw.println("Listener *not* started!");
    What is the problem here?I was so frustrated with this.Pls. do provide an immediate reply if there is any code regarding this is working pls. do provide it.It is Urgent.I will be waiting for ur reply.
    Thanx,
    m.ananthu

    Hi Leo,
    Thank u for the reply i still have the problem with exec() in servlets.Has i said earlier in my previous mail by using exec() i trying to execute the output of a c-program for eg,Hello.run which provides an output of "HelloWorld" which is a sample eg.The Hello.run is the directory /var/jakarta/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes which is also the directory where my servlet program is.Where i am using a tomcat server-4.1.24 on the linux machine 7.3.Which is the server ofcourse.
    Here by using a servlet program i try to exceute the Hello.run c-program and display the output in the browser.This is what i need to do.
    I also used a sample core java class put the exec() there in a method and i try to call the method in the servlet.Which is also not working.
    Here is that example :-
    The core java program:-
    public class UsingExec
    public String ExeDisplay()
         try
    System.out.println("ExeDisplay");
         Runtime rt=Runtime.getRuntime();
         Process p=rt.exec("/var/jakarta/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes/Hello.run");
    p.waitFor();
    return "true";
         catch(Exception e)
    return "false";
    public static void main(String args[])
    UsingExec ue=new UsingExec();
    ue.ExeDisplay();
    When i run this program only ExeDisplay at the top is displayed.
    Here is the Servlet program:-
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class ExeServlet extends HttpServlet
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req,HttpServletResponse res)throws ServletException,IOException
    try
    res.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter pw=res.getWriter();
    UsingExec ue=new UsingExec();
    String line=ue.ExeDisplay();
    pw.println(line);
    catch (Exception e)
    When i display this program on the browser only "false" is displayed from the UsingExec.java & nothing is displayed.
    Thanx,
    m.ananthu

  • Any problem with Runtime.exec()

    I am required to launch a local exe from an applet. At present I am using AppletContext.showDocument().The problem with this is that in netscape a box is popped up forcing the user to save that exe file. The requirwment is to run it directly without any message being asked.
    A workaround is to use Runtime.exec(), it works, however I have heard that it is not platform independent.
    (1) Is there a better solution than Runtime.exec() ?
    (2) If not could you give me some info on Runtime.exec() and the problems associated with it ?
    (3) Is there a way to use AppletContext.showDocument() without the message being asked ?
    Shikari.

    First of all, Java is platform independent language, and has many security restriction in it's applets.
    so from an applet you can't excute a program using "Runtime.getRuntime().exec()".
    coz. there is security restriction on that.
    for the "AppletContext.showDocument()" this methid is for displaying the specified document on the client browser, so it can't excute a client program.
    if u need to use Runtime.getRuntime().exec() you have to get the client agreement for that.
    see the applet security restriction for more info.

  • InputStream problem with Runtime.exec

    Dear all,
    I am writing a java application which is executing an external program (through threads). I am trying to read the output of that program while is in execution. Anyway i found out that InputStreamReader is not ready unless enough output of program is coming or the program exits.
    I simplified things writing the following small C program:
    main(){
    printf("Just a print\n");
    for(;;){} //Or anything that might keep program in execution
    So i am trying to find out why i cant get the output of this program unless it exits. Is this a problem with the underlying Stream? Is there any workaround?
    Thanks for any help.

    You are right. The C code is that of an external program that i am trying to execute and get its output. Actually i am working on a bigger program that it prints Directories recursively. To keep things simpler i used that simple C program to explain my problem.
    The code i am using is the following:
    /* WindowsExec.java */
    import java.io.*;
    public class WindowsExec
         response std_out,std_err;
         public WindowsExec(){
         try{
         String[] cmd = new String[]{"dark.exe"};
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc = rt.exec(cmd);
    std_out = new response(proc.getInputStream(),System.out);          std_err = new response(proc.getErrorStream(),System.err);
    std_out.start();
         std_err.start();
    int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
    System.out.println("ExitValue: " + exitVal);
                   proc.destroy();
         } catch (Throwable t){
              t.printStackTrace();
    public static void main(String args[]){
              new WindowsExec();
    /* Response.java */
    import java.io.*;
    class response extends Thread
         InputStream is;
         PrintStream type;
         public response(InputStream is, PrintStream type){
              this.is = is;
              this.type = type;
         public void run(){
         try{
              InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(is);
    while(true){
    if(isr.ready()){
    System.out.println("Its ready!"); //HERE!!!
              break;
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
    String line = null;
    while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null){
    System.out.println(line);
                   isr.close();
                   is.close();
              catch (Exception ioe){
    ioe.printStackTrace();
    Notice that i am never getting isr.ready() = true!

    What do I have done:<br>
    In the Visual Administrator -> Cluster -> Server -> Services -> SLD Data Supplier<br>
    I have set in the HTTP Settings tab the host and port SLD, the user name and password is also entered as it is in the SLD. To be sure, already have set for the user entered here such roles as:<br>
    SAP_SLD_ADMINISTRATOR<br>
    SAP_SLD_CONFIGURATOR<br>
    SAP_SLD_DEVELOPER<br>
    SAP_SLD_GUEST<br>
    SAP_SLD_ORGANIZER<br>
    Maybe we are talking in this place about a different user?<br>
    <br>
    Similarly, when it comes to tab CIM Client Generation Settings - here's all the same thing done. CIMClient test shows that everything is OK.<br>
    When I click the button: This trigger the transfer of data to the SLD gets the message that everything was shipped correctly. Indeed, I received an instance of JAVA in SLD<br>
    Also clicked on this icon: Assign application roles to user group - got information that everything is attached properly.<br>
    <br>
    By ABAP side, the connections: INTEGRATION_DIRECTORY_HMI, SAPSLDAPI, LCRSAPRFC, AI_RUNTIME_JCOSERVER and AI_DIRECTORY_JCOSERVER work correctly, ie I can perform the test - which means that programs ID are properly positioned in JCO Provider in VA.<br>
    <br>
    Puzzling is this message:<br>
    The SLD data is inconsistent.<br>
    <br>
    Strange also that the message (from the ABAP everything is available in SMGW no errors):<br>
    Connect to SAP gateway failed<br>
    <br>
    And what is this error:<br>
    <br>

  • Problems with Runtime j2re-1.3.1.02

    Hi:
    have an aplication that i made with java 1.2, and i run with the Runtime 1.2.2, and all things were wonderful, but my box decided to change my computer, and now i have a pentiun 4. I tried to install my Runtime 1.2.2 but the computer had some incompatibilities and i had to instal de runtime j2re-1.3.1.02, but now the aplication doesnt work correctly.
    could you say me if it exists some plug-in to the version 1.2.2 that i can install in my new computer without problems? And in that case, could you say to me where i can find it?
    Thanx in advance, Mnica

    Hello again:
    I have read that page and in theory it shouldnt have choosen in my aplication, but in fact there are.
    For instance, i have a JTable, with a width of column fix, and i have a panel that has the same width of the columns, in 1.2.2 the things go well, but in 1.3.1 the panel and the table havent the same width in set.
    So maybe if i could put in my computer some plug-in of Runtime of 1.2.2 without to be the runtime of 1.3.1 could work ....

    ==================================================================================
    This Java program is very simple. It runs the a.exe using the method Runtime.getRuntime().exec and gets input for a.exe from a JTextPane and shows the output in the same JTextPane.
    If my a.exe represents the binary code of the first C program the text in the JTextPane is the correct output of the a.exe. But, if my a.exe represents the binary code of the second C program, the JTextPane shows the messages ( "Marcinho e Danny\n", "Te\n", "Vida\n", "Marciorja: %d.\n") after I enter the value claimed by the scanf.
    I tested my Java program running programs that require input and all have the same behavior:.
    What can I need to do to solve this bug?
    I read other posts with the same problem and nobody answers what is the problem.
    I'LL pay 10 Duke dollars to the first that answers me.

    The second C program with the statement fflush( stdout ) produces the right output.
    #include<stdio.h>
    void leia();
    main()
    int x = 20;
    int y = 2;
    printf( "Marcinho e Danny\n" );
    printf( "Te\n" );
    printf( "Vida\n" );
    fflush( stdout ); //added statement.
    printf( "Marciorja: %d.\n", x * y );
    scanf( "%d", &x ); //This is the statement added to the latter C program.
    but what can I do to run C programs that doesn't flush the stdout?

  • Problem with Runtime R6025 in Adobe Illustrator

    have been reading forums, doing multiple solutions as suggested by your staff and other people online with no success. I will illustrate the problem to you, but may be worth checking Illustrator as I think it's a bug.
    I have a file with 2 artbords at 11x17 and working on a newsletter that involves a lot of text and photos. Yes, I realize that InDesign is better suited to the task, but excuse my lack of experience with the software. So I have a group of objects: 2 photos, 2 vector boxes and a text block. After grouping, I apply a text wrap to all of it and place it in. For minor adjustments, I use nudge. I always get the error and Illustrator crashes when I'm nudging this object. I've also gotten the error when clicking through too fast but I hope that's not the issue. I picked up Adobe so I COULD work faster!
    For solutions, I have tried reinstalling illustrator and allowing the software to fully update. I tried a registry cleaner tool that picked up several errors and cleaned them, but issue still persists. I did an SFC /SCANNOW which revealed no integrity issues. I've tried virus scans in safemode and spyware removal tools (nothing).
    My system is a dual core i3 3.33mHz, GT 220 graphics card and 8GB of RAM running on a 64-bit OS (I made sure to power my computer up as much as possible)... and power not being an issue either as I'm running 600 watts.
    PLEASE let me know if there is anything else to try? If not, please check your end. The error seems very specific to an action I'm taking which I can only conclude is a software malfunction.

    Yes, the version is 15.0.1... if you wanted a closer test, try bogging your system down with some graphics. I want to be sure it'
    s not just Illustrator not able to handle the work load (as I know InDesign lowers the quality of graphic display to be more system friendly).
    I've put in the whole file 15-20 photos all at 300dpi of various sizes.... about 5mb per photo. About 6+
    text blocks and a lot of transparencies.
    I can't say I've done this EXACT application before, so I don't know if it's worked int he past or not. For now, I'm trying to release my text wraps while I nudge and reapply them after the photo is in place... hard to get an idea of a visual, but no crashes so far. Dunno what else to suggest/try...

  • Upgraded iTunes last week since then having big problems with runtime library, uninstall iTunes, tried to reinstall still same problem with runtime library. Any suggestion?

    Last week I upgraded iTunes, since then it did not work. Was getting message
    Runtime error program C:\Program files(x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe

    An application has made an attemps to load C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact application's support team for more information.
    Other message i get is window error 1114 - error 7
    \or Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
    Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
    Then you restart your computer again.
    Mine is working perfectly again now.
    I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

  • Problem with Runtime class

    hello everybody
    I am writing a java code for gui installation of a product in a linux box....
    this requires lot of scripts to run in the background as we traverse from one window to other....
    for running scripts i am using "Runtime .exec()"
    I have written a generic function which installs various components required for the product...
    for eg apache,mysql,..
    i am passing the name of the package to the function and run a script according to the name of the package....
    it is working fine for some but not for all......
    for eg while installing snmp++2_8 when a script runs in the background ..
    the script contains a command called make...
    when this command gets executed various cpp files get compiled inside the directory from where i am running make...
    the problem here is all the files are not compiling ....
    only 7 files get compiled ........
    and if we execute the program once more the next 7 files get compiled and so on......
    but when we run this make command from the command line it works fine....
    is there any default time out for any script that is running....and if there is any can anybody tell me how to increase the default timeout....
    can any body help me out to solve this problem...

  • Cannot download iTunes. Problem with Runtime errror what do I do please?

    I need to know what to do. I keep getting a message telling me iTunes is trying to open runtime incorrectly and to contact iTunes. But of course thats easier said than done. All I want to do is download the update. To be honest I'd be content if I could redown load the old version. Any Ideas please?

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)

    The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Problems with Runtime.getRuntime().exec in Windows 2000

    Hello,
    I have a batch file that I want to run from my java application. My code is the following:
    try {
            Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c C:\\temp\\shortcut.bat");
    } catch (Exception e) {
         System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    }I was developing on windows XP and it worked just fine. But then I tested it on windows 2000 and it didn't work. The batch file is okay, because if I run the batch file myself it works just fine, even from the command line. I get no errors what so ever, it just doesn't do anything...
    Can somebody help me with this?
    thx in advance

    thank you all so much
    I figured it out... It was a combination of two things that went wrong.
    First one: in my batch file I had:
    cd C:\tempwhich worsk fine in XP, but in it doesn't in 2000. In 2000 it has to be:
    C:
    cd \temp But just changing that wasn't enough, I also needed the "start"
    Now it works just fine on 2000, hopefully it'll still work on xp as well.
    THX!

  • Problems with Runtime.exec() and certain Unix processes

    Certain Unix processes don't behave correctly when run from Java using Runtime.exec(). This can be seen by running /bin/sh and trying to interact with it interactively. The issue appears to be that /bin/sh (and many other Unix tools) are checking the file handles on the spawned process to see if they are associated with a TTY.
    Is there any way to associate a process spawned by Runtime.exec() with a terminal or alternatively, is there a JNI library available that would setup the process correctly and still provide access to the input and output streams?
    Our objective is to have the flexibility of expect in being able to run and interact with spawned processes. A bug was opened at one point but closed back in 1997 as being a fault in the spawned process, not Java.
    Bug ID: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4058689

    #include <stdio.h>
    void doit() {
    int c;
            while((c=getc(stdin)) != EOF) {
                    printf("%c",c);
    int main() {
            freopen("/dev/tty", "r", stdin);
            doit();
    }This program reopens its standard input against /dev/tty and catenates it to stdout. And voila, it takes its standard input from the terminal, even though it was started with stdin against /dev/null..
    $ gcc b.c -o b
    $./b < /dev/null

  • Problems with Runtime.exec inside OC4J in OAS!!! help!!

    Hi all,
    I have a method on my webapplication and the same call a script .cmd on windows and a .sh on unix using Runtime.exec command, inside this script have a call to a java program ie.
    java JMSAdmin < jcajms.txt
    OK, this is fine in OC4J Standalone 10.1.3 in windows and linux but in OAS 10.1.3 the same not run and not throw any error. Its is a BUG ?? limitation ?? OAS ignore a call to another java ??
    please help.
    Tanks

    Normally, you must prepend the command with a call to the command shell (eg /bin/sh).
    But I suspect that this call isn't allowed due to Java EE specification restrictions.
