Problem with S-ATA optical drive(MSI 875P Neo)

Ahoy MSIers,
I am in a most dire situation, and before I go to spend money on some computer-tech guy to solve my problem, I thought maybe you could help me.
*My PC specs:
Intel Pentium 4 Northwood C 2800Mhz
MSI 875P Neo
A-DATA 512Mb RAM DDR 400 * 2(1024)
PowerColor Radeon 9800Pro
Western Digital Hard Drive 80Gb 8Mb buffer P-ATA
Pioneer DVR-212D S-ATA (The main issue here)
Bios - AMIBIOS - VERSION 3.31a
Windows XP Pro - SP2
Until 2 days ago I owned an MSI CD(P-ATA) burner which was virtually dead.
2 days ago, It died completely, So I decided that I will not just replace a CD burner for a CD burner... no! I will buy myself a new shiny DVD burner!
So I bought myself a Pioneer DVR-212D(S-ATA) and I went on with installing it.
I plugged the Serial Power Cable from the PSU to the drive, and connected the drive and the S-ATA port on my M-Board with a serial-ata cable.
I booted up, and found that the device was nowhere to be found although power is being transferred to it(the drive opens and closes when pressing it's eject button).
I searched the net and found that I was supposed to "enable" S-ATA in my BIOS.
Tried that, yet every setting I tried besides the default setting gives makes the computer freeze for a few minutes at the MSI logo and then a "friendly" error massage appears, usually it's something like
"4th master drive ATAPI incompatible" ( the number changes, I haven't got a clue why).
Searched the net a bit more and found almost nothing... most s-ata "problems" were about booting from a s-ata hard drive....
I am getting desperate, So in order to maximize the chances of me getting help solving this issue, I took a few pictures of the BIOS and the inside of my case... maybe it will help, I dunno.
Here are some pics:
The S-ATA cable connected to the Mother-Board
Back of the DVD burner with the S-ATA cable attached
BIOS - standard CMOS features
BIOS - Integrated Peripherals
On-Chip IDE configuration
P.S
I have a DVD ROM(Toshiba, nothing special) and I would of course occasionally like to burn Dvds/Cd's from my DVD ROM to my DVD burner. However, seeing as the DVD burner is S-ATA, there is no physical connection what so ever between the two drives(unlike in P-ATA connection where each cable has 3 "connections", 2 for drives(hard or optical) and one for the Motherboard) I really don't know how I can "achieve" this.

A friend of my father's, whose occupation is a computer technician toke a look at the PC and bios settings today.
WE tried EVERYTHING and It still wouldn't work so we concluded that the problem is probably in the hardware.
There were two possible "suspects" here - The Mother Board(specificially the S-ATA controller/ports on it) or the drive itself.
We connected the drive to my sister's computer and it worked like a charm.
So the answer was clear - something was wrong with the board.
I replaced my S-ATA drive for an IDE drive, and all is well.
Well
that's the end of that story

  • Problems with DVD/CD optical drive

Hi all, my HP notebook's optical DVD/CD drive no longer reads disks. I have tried several different disks. I insert the disk, close it, then it makes sounds like it is trying to read the disk for about one to two minutes. Then it stops. Nothing else happens.
I tried HP Support Assistant. When it went to do an optical drive check, I inserted a disk (not blank). It did the same thing where it tried to read the disk for about one to two minutes. Then the HP Support Assistant said "Blank disk detected. The optical media drive does not support this media type. No testing will be performed."
The thing is, the disk I inserted is NOT a blank disk.
    Can anyone help?
I have tried deleting and then installing the driver for the drive. The drive is also up to date.
    Thank you!
    Kelly

    1. Open Device manager, expand CD/DVD-rom drives, right click on your dvd drive and select "uninstall"
Close DM and restart the PC, if this does not fix the issue,
    2. click the "Run Now" button on this page, reboot when done.
If these 2 steps fail to get is working correcly the drive is defective and needs replaced.

  • Probems with msi 875p neo Fis2r and network controller driver

Hi guys just wondering if anyone could help me with my msi 875p neo FIS2R and problems with the network controller driver/network card.
I'm running xp on a computer my nextdoor neighbour gave me. I got it working fine  with service pack 3 installed but then installed a bunch of windows updates last night and the computer would switch itself off before windows could start. Now I reinstalled xp and unfortunately it does not recognise the network controller/card at all now. I tried installing the intel network controller drivers but it stopped because it said no intel adapter/card was installed/present. Could anyone please help with suggestions? I tried running everest and under newtwork it doesnt list intel network adapters but I'm pretty certain it is. Again any suggestions?

Clear CMOS with your PSU unplugged from A/C power.  Then load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS and retest.

  • Error 2131 with Acer TravelMate & optical drive TSST TS-L632H ATA device

I cannot burn playlists to CDs. I have an Acer TravelMate 5720 running Windows Vista, and a TSST TS-L632H ATA optical drive, and I am using Verbatim CD-R recordable CDs (700MB, 52x speed, 80min.). I am able to burn data (pics, Word docs etc) from my C-drive to these CDs. Can anyone work out what is happening here? Many thanks!

This is a well know problem for this model of drive.
Toshiba and Dell have issued firmware updates to solve it, but I don't know of one for Acer although it's worth checking their download site.
I understand some people have attempted cross flashing, but this can render your drive useless so I wouldn't recommend it.
It might be worth seeing if you can get the drive swapped for another model if it is a new PC. Otherwise you are not going to be able to burn in iTunes.

  • How to disable AGP Fast Write with MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ??

How can I disable AGP Fast Write with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ? I can't find an option for this in the BIOS !

You wont usually find this option in most MB BIOSES , as the only Option that SOME BIOSES Have is the Option to enable, disable SBA (Side Band Addressing) for the AGP Bus....In order for you to Disable or Enable the FW, You Must have the Option in your Vidio Drivers Controll Panel.....If you have a NVIDIA Card, you Must go to  http://www.guru3d.com  And Download the program "NVHardpage" and then Open the Program and you wil have the Choice to Enable these options and they will then appear in your Vidio driver CP >> "Activate "Coolbitts" (this is NVIDIAS Overclocking Utility) Activate "Harware Options", and then Activate "AGP Options" and finally Activate "Performance Options"........If you have a ATI Card then you must Download one of thier "Tweeking Utilities".......I will Post the Direct "Link" for NVHardpage in a Minute, just say yes to the Lic. Agree. and download......Here>> http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/  ...........Sean REILLY875

  • Problem with Installer and DVD drive

I am having problems with my dvd combo drive reading discs. It keeps spitting them out. More importantly, I am trying to load Adobe Illustrator CS2 and cannot get all the wat through the installation proccess. Is there a patch I am not aware of??

You could be looking at some kind of driver corruption issue (say if that sector on your hd had gone bad, or the file was dorked somehow). Have you done repaired permissions on the hd recently?
Do all types of DVDs fail -- music, movies, and apps? If some work and others do not, then it could be a problem with a particular app.
It never hurts to check the cables. Insufficient data or power can cause all kinds of problems.

  • I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

I'd like to know, short of replacing the optical drive, whats is the best way to upgrade to snow leopard 10.6 since it won't read the dvd instal disc. I have access to a buddy's 2009 mac book with a working optical drive. In the instructions of the 10.6 manual it says this can be done but the machines have to be on the same network in which case how do i do that or can this be done in an easier way, without incurring aditional cost? thank you for any help

Take your disc over to your friend's house. Meanwhile get yourself an 8 GB USB flash drive. Clone the DVD to the flash drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Take the flash drive to your computer and boot it with the flash drive:
Booting From a USB Flash Drive
    1. Insert the flash drive in a USB port.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" button.
    4. Select the flash drive's icon from the display in the startup manager.
    5. Click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Destination means the USB flash drive.
    Source means the installer disc.

  • Problems with Elitebook 8460p graphics driver

    Hello
I´m having problems with Elitebook 8460p display driver. The last version (15.28.20.64.3347) posted on 16 jun 2014 have some issues on the laptop. When the notebook is running on batteries the screen suffers from flickering and corrupted graphics, as you can see in this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ1w0aOaF7A
(you can see the flickering between 0:20-0:22)
I contacted with local hp support and send me an IT guy, who changed my mainboard and CPU, but nothing worked. I tried to contact with intel for support (the issue is present with intel non-oem drivers) but they send me to OEM. I would like to have an actual driver that works with the system (3347 is a year old driver), is this possible?
This issue isn´t present at all in linux drivers, plus mainboard change i totally discard a hardware problem.
I can provide feedback for any solution provided.
    Thanks!

    Hello @falken2k5
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the Elitebook 8460p is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE

  • MSI 875P NEO FIS2R AGP problems

I have just purchased an MSI 875P NEO FIS2R motherboard and there is a sticker covering the AGP slot which says "Please use only 1.5V AGP cards to avoid pernament damage to this mainboard". However, on the website it says here http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=434
"One AGP slot supports 8x/4x at 0.8V (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5V
(3.3V is not supported)." I want to use 8x agp @ 0.8v and the website says this ok but the sticker on the AGP slot on the motherboard says only 1.5V. Is this a mistake on the website or on the Motherboard and is it possible for me to use 8x AGP @ 0.8V without damaging the motherboard?
I want to use an ATI radeon 9800pro.
Anybody using 8x agp @ 0.8V and have they have any problems?

Assaf IS THE MAN!! His answers are NEVER WRONG.. WORRY NO MORE about the voltage...

  • MSI 875P Neo LSR Dead??

    Hi y'all,
Saturday 12th of juli I've bought some components:
    - Intel P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB
    - MSI 875P Neo LSR
    - 2*512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 CL2
    - Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro
    - Iiyama Vision Master Pro 413
After installing the whole bunch, I tried to boot the system but nothing happend!
So I waited for about 5 min. and booted again. This time almost succesfull but..... the only parts that were working are my fans (casefans, cpu-fan and the Northbridge-fan).
The powerswitch wasn't working (and it was installed correctly). I had to power the system via the powerswitch on my powersupply. So my guess was that my mobo was dead!
After returning the mobo back to my retailler, they concluded that it was dead indeed, so the gave me another mobo.
So after installing the new board, I tried to boot again, but still no succes so far.
My retailer tested the board again and it was also dead.
    Some symptoms:
    - Active fans
    - No HDD, floppy and DVD-player/Burner activity
    - Blank screen (display in standby)
    - Instant power on when I turn the switch on on my powersupply
I've tried different videocards, memory modules and clearing the C-MOS, bur nothing seems to help ;(
Can you please help me out????
    Thanks
    Best regards,
    Arjan

With regard to the motherboard stand-offs, motherboards dont always use the same amount or in the same position (the stand-offs are movable -either bending out of brackets in the case or unscrewing)
Always check ALL the standoffs line-up with screw positions for your moterboard before fitting, a wrongly positioned post can short-out PCB traces/pins
Another easily overlooked item is the square 4 pin 12v connector (older type power supplys dont even have one), the 12v power connector is located by the northbrige/AGP socket (the CPU will not start without this fitted)
Sometimes when physicaly altering a computer the reset or power-on (start) switchs dont line up correctly with their buttons -this can cause the switch to be permanently "on"
The power-on switch will cause the computer to "cycle" (constant restarting) and the reset switch will cause the computer to hang with-out initialising -try removing the reset switch connector from the motherboard
If none of those are the problem i would suggest trying a different power supply -or maybe your dealer could check the one you are using at the moment
