?problem with Safari or with Google

I have a problem that's been happening for a few days now. Whenever I click on Safari which usually takes me to my iGoogle homepage, the page that loads is <www.net.cn> which is in Chinese.
Steps taken so far: Cleared cache / reset Safari / downloaded and ran MacScan which found a few tracking sites but nothing else strange / I also downloaded and reinstalled Safari over the top of the previous one. If I restart the computer, it will sometimes go straight to the regular Google page but then after that will go back to the chinese site.
I have bookmarked my regular igoogle page and that loads OK when I click it.
I downloaded Chrome as a backup browser to see what would happen but that has been coming up as page not found.
Questions
Anyone else had this problem?
? prob with Safari or with Google?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Laurie
Suggestions as to what could be going on?

OK, click that site, go there, and then while on that page,
go to your Safari preferences to "General" , and click
"Home Page: Set to Current Page."
The correct URL should then be noted.
Let us know if that works, OK?

  • Earthlink Start Page with Safari Obscured by Google Search Bar??

Earthlink's personal start page inserts a Google search bar at the top of first page. Instead of moving up out of the way, when scrolling down, the Google bar follows at the top of the page. If the page is swiped diagonally, to expand the content, the Google bar expands proportionally obscuring the content of the page. Expanding the page is usually necessary because of the small print size on the small iPhone screen. If the page is expanded enough, the Google bar obscures all the page content. Both Earthlink and Apple do not acknowledge the responsibility or resorces to address the problem. This makes using Earthlink, as an ISP with Safari, as your home page unacceptable?? Any suggestions other than switching browsers on the iPhone??

Complain to Earthlink. They coded the page. It's their problem.

  • What is wrong with safari working with adobe 10.1.3

I updated my adobe reader yesterday and the new update is horrible.  When I view an adobe document in safari it is slow and sometimes unresponsive.  I can no longer use my magic trackpad in order to zoom in and out.  I cannot even print the document I am viewing.  Any help?

In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
If a Finder window opens with that item selected, delete it, then quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Favicon on MobileMe web site won't display with Safari - OK with Firefox

I have a web site published to MobileME using iWeb - I have added a favicon and updated HTML accordingly. Now after trying every combination of code and searching the Safari, iWeb and MobileMe forums I cannot figure out why my favicon will not display using Safari but will with just about every other browser (Firefox, IE, Netscape are the ones I've tried on a Windows PC - also won't dispaly using Safari for Windows). Any ideas???
I've put the favicon file in the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites folder as well as the web.me.com/pat.schafer/web/sites/sitename folder and added the HTML ref code to every html file - I'm going crazy.

Hi Certified - tried your tips to no avail. I'm beginning to think it's some interaction (bug??) when using a site published to MobileMe (and iWeb?) and Safari. Note I also tried using Windows Safari on a PC which had never viewed the site and it still showed the Apple favico but as previously stated Firefox, and IE on this PC did show my favicon. (I have not tried to load Firefox on my iMac but may try this as well.) I'd try the Apple Support Center but I don't hold up much hope of their being able to assist - I was at the Genius Bar yesterday in the Sydney shop on another matter (broken mouse) and asked about this favicon issue and was told it was beyond the scope of what they can assist with.
Hello Old Toad - thanks anyway for the tip on the OVI slideshow - also thanks to your earlier tips on using OVI I did know about the trick of using a transparent shape but had got around to doing this - I'm still in the early stages of learning using iWeb ... the site in question is just a bit of a "sandbox". In fact I'm pretty much on my way to a bookshop to get a book an HTML and other web design technologies - clearly one must really understand the underlying technology to make these things work.

  • Command T registering twice.  Once with Safari, once with Finder.

So before Mavericks I would always use the "Command-T" keyboard shortcut in Safari for opening new tabs.
Nowadays whenever I use it, it both opens a tab and then opens up finder.  I'm guessing it's registering the keyboard shortcut also as "add to sidebar" in Finder.  It's incredibly annoying.  Any way to fix this or remove it?  It's just that it's never been doing this before and now full screen browsing is just a matter of opening a new tab and then being kicked to my desktop too Finder.  Thanks!

Just noticed it does this even when I open new tabs by clicking the button too and now I'm all kinds of incompetently confused.

  • Problem with safari loading unselected pages

I've been having some problems in safari associated with pages loading that weren't selected. I don't believe that any of the pages that I end up on are actually links on the pages I was on. It happens when I'm reading in google reader or in Yahoo reading some of their top stories. I usually end up on a "select a survey question", I am able to hit the back button and get back to the page, but then it will try and forward to the same page I just left.
I've emptied cache, reset safari, ran the disk utility repair, and while it's an infrequent occurance it happens often enough that I want to fix it.

    Good... you're up to date.
I think this may be more of a Google Reader issue then Safari. Try the troubleshooting help here.

  • Has anyone noticed that comcast does not play well with safari, especially around e-mail and voice mail?

Is anyone else having trouble with safari working with comcast?  I've spoken to both the comcast people (no help what so ever) and the apple people with no success at all.  I like the safari format and don't want to change.

  • Weird Tapping / Touching Problem in Safari

I have noticed over the past 2-3 days the oddest phenomenon. ONLY when I use Safari on the iPad a specific quadrant of the Ipad screen does not recognize my tap.
When in Landscape Orientation (with the home button on the right, my taps on the top left quadrant (but only in the viewing area....I can tap on the bookmarks bar, etc just fine) are absolutely not recognized so I can't scroll or click on links that happen to be there. If I start my scrolling from the bottom left quadrant and drag into the top left, it is fine.
Now if I change the Orientation to Portrait (with the home button at the bottom), then it's top right quadrant that behaves this way.
Now if I turn it up side down then the opposite quadrant does that.
I'm thinking maybe I need to reset / restore. I have diligently cleaned the screen, and I tried the iPad quite gingerly.
I can't seem to find anyone else speaking of this problem.
    Any takers?
I'm not angry, I'm not ****** off, I'm just concerned because speaking as someone who 1 month ago thought the iPad was just a gimmick, I'm loving this thing.
BTW, tapping functionality works perfectly fine in all other applications!

    Hi,
I have the same problem with my display ONLY with Safari.
And I have visited espnf1.com just before I noticied the problem !
I think this site make a conflict with Safari.
With ALL my other apps, all is ok and the multitouch works very well.
I just tried to go to espnf1.com with another browser : Atomic Web.
And the same problem appears !
    It's definitively a bug from espnf1.com
    I hope ...
ps : sorry for my bad english !

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • On a mac, I have lost the Scaler on Google map. I think that it is Firefox problem because the map scaler is present with Safari. Thank You

On a mac, I have lost the map scaler on Google map. I think that it is Firefox problem because the map scaler is present with Safari, so it seems that it is not a Google map problem. Thank You

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • IP Cache problem with Safari when browsing from Google

I've been experiencing what appears to be an ARP Cache corruption problem when using Safari. It typically occurs when I've been browsing links off of a Google Search page. Tonight's specific example is where www.youtube.com is now resolved to wikipedia.com's ip address. The only way to fix the problem (short of a reboot) is to shut down the network interface and then restart (after waiting a few seconds)
This normally fixes the problem (which is why I think its the ARP cache.)

This sounds like it could be related to a problem between Safari 5's DNS prefetching and your router. It may be possible that your router is scrambling DNS replies. Could you try manually entering a known good DNS server like OpenDNS into your network prefs?

  • Problems with Safari, Firefox and Flash player

Ever since I got my new iMac that has Snow Leopard I've had problems with Safari and Firefox freezing or crashing. It appears that part of the problem is the Flash plugin because sometimes a screen pops up and says something like: the flash script is having problems. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling Flash, Safari and Firefox but the problem is still there. My browser seems to hang up or freeze a lot no matter if I use Safari or Firefox.
    Any ideas?
I just discovered the Chrome browser from Google this morning and so far its working very well. No freezes and it appears to handle Flash video without any problems.
    How can that be?
    Thanks

Ah! The proverbial missing information. Why the regrets? Most people are having no issues migrating from previous computers; it's the preferred method. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac. You're a long way from starting over.

  • Cannot log in to Google "Accounts" with Safari

I cannot seem to login and use Google Services with Safari 2.04.
This started when I discovered I was unable to log in to google calendar in Safari, and became a support ticket to Google (which is still pending) and is really confounding me.
What happens is that I go to go to http://www.google.com/accounts and attempt to login. Once I hit the submit button, accounts page plainly refreshes. However, if I put in a totaly invalid user or password, I will get a message telling me the user or pass is invalid.
In Firefox, if I attempt the same scenario from google.com/accounts, after submit, I get the page that shows me all the services available for me to use, like gMail, calendar, etc.
    Here's what I've already tried.
    Safari troubleshooting...
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Safari
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Caches/Safari
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    - backup/remove ~/Library/Cookies
After removing all the above, Safari is basically back to Apple's factory default settings. Even after all this, Safari still cannot log in. The same behaviour occurs when I hit the submit button, I'm just brought right back to the same page I started at, and am not logged in. Calendar never renders, or I'm left looking at the accounts log in screen.
It's notable that this issue does not appear to be specific to my google account, but specific to one particular Mac I use. I am able to login to google/accounts on my laptop, but not on my office machine using Safari.
To make it even more mind numbing, it seems to be specific to a user profile on my office Mac. I tried creating a new user account on this same machine, and with the fresh clean home directory, was able to login to google accounts, calendar, etc. So, obviously, a totally clean home directory, library, app support, etc results in usability.
I'm not sure where else to go with this. Are there other supporting files to Safari within my home directory that I missed removing to set it back to "clean". I cannot imagine the problem being specific to the application bundle for Safari since each user on the computer is using the same one, this behaviour must be related to something within the user home directory somewhere.
Anyone else seen this same behaviour and know how to fix it, preferably without just creating a new user and home dir.

    Hello Jim,
Check your router for firmware updates, not being able to sign into only 1
or some sites has been a symptom for some users see this topic,
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=635607&tstart=500
The other thing to check for is a firewall on your router that may need
    adjusting.Are you using Net Barrier?
Post back & let us know, how you fare.
    Eme
P.S you did make sure to QUIT Safari before removing the cache folder
etc.. correct, if it is not QUIT it will recreate the same corrupt, files & or folders.
