Problem with Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 750gb

Hi,
I have a Macbook with Mac OSX 10.5.8 and i have a Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 750gb.
The problem is that the Mac can not see all the 750 gb but it only sees 700 !!!
Hard disck works fine, only the size is wrong.
A friend has my same Macbook but the SO is Snow Leopard and he can read all the 750 !!

Leopard and Snow Leopard calculate disk sizes differently. See here:

Basically, Leopard counts every 1024 bits as a kilobyte, and Snow Leopard counts every 1000 bits as a kilobyte. That different way of measuring results in the different reported sizes.
The disk is the same size, and will be written to the same by either machine; however, your Leopard machine just reports a smaller number. No need to worry.

We have recently purchase an Airport Extreme to provide Wireless networking and also an attached USB drive
My partner as Apple iBook G4 running Tiger OS, am running Windows XP SP 3 Intel Celeron (DHCP enables, IP 192.168.1.6 GW 192.168.1.1 mask 255.255.255
We can both connect to the wireless LAN and the Internet without difficulty but we can not see the attached drive
The drive has been my directly attached USB storage device for some time
It is a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 4109 running its own backup utility. It therefore as all my backups on it as well some additional info that will not fit onto my hard drive therefore I do not want to do anything that may cause me to loose my data
We have configured the Airport Extreme as follows
Internet
IP Address 192.168.1.4
mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1.
DNS 192.168.1.1.
Connection sharing Off (Bridge Mode)
Disk
In the Disk the pane shows “931.5 GB - Seagate FreeAgent Pro 4109” (this is non editable)
File sharing tab
File Sharing ticked
Secured shared disks = with a disk password
password set
Guest not allowed
Workgroup set as the same Workgroup as my PC (Workgroup)
No WINS server is configured
We have read hours of articles on the Internet. My partner has been looking for a shared option within her sidebar as this has been referred to but can not see it, she can not see the drive at all
I have added 192.168.1.1 (automatically added) and 10.0.1.1 (I added after reading articles) into my Norton firewall (full trust) and have turned off the Windows firewall.
I am running Bonjour for Windows (although I am unsure how I confirm this is always running but it is within the browser button bar).
I try to find the drive on Windows I use Explorer and use “tools” and “Map network drive” and select \\192.168.1.4\Seagate FreeAgent Pro 4109. It attempts to find this but says the network path can not be found
I have read articles that seem to indicate that we must reformat the dive for MAC OS extended for it to work but I am worried that I will loose my data and the back up untilities
Can you help?

Thanks very much for the reply, I thought that might be the case. I guess that would mean lossing all my data on the drive? More important to me is the backup utility. I think that has a host element on the drive but I am not certain

If there is no loading bar, it's usually a problem with a third party kext file in OS X itself.
You can press the power button down to force a hardware shutdown, then reboot holding the shift key down on a wired or built in keyboard, this will disable them and you go around and update your third party software.
Gray, Blue or White screen at boot, w/spinner/progress bar
Also take this time to backup your users files off the machine if possible.
Most commonly used backup methods
Sometime that won't work and you need to do more

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???

Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?

i had a problem with my macbook pro: on tuesday 16th (agoust, 2011) I went to a friend's house and show her some document i had in my computer, then i turned off my mac and it asked me: "there are some actualizations available, do you want to update before turn off?" i clicked on yes, waited for update and then the macbook turned off. When I got back home, I tried to turn it on again.... but nothing: it didn't sound baaaammmmm as allways, it didn't reacted. I tried again, but useless.
The next day i went to one of these "authorized management centers", but they coudn't say anything or do anything about it. First they told me the problem was the battery, then the hard disk, then the video card... but don't. I left my mac there by two weeks, hoping they could help me, but they didn't. So I picked it up and go to other place.
The rare thing is that i have just two years with my mac, and i didn't do anything stupid on it (didn't fall, get wet, microwave, hot, shocked, hit or anything) It just stopped working. Two times it turned on. But if not, it's the same story:
When i pushed the button to turn on, sounds like baaaaaammmm, but then again, and again, and again, and the screen doesn't get blue or anything, it appears a foder with a "?" and then the computer turns off...
Im wondering if this is a problem on this computers, because some of my friends told me things much like that that happened with their macbooks.

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)

But basically your system can't find the boot disk. Usually this is a symptom of a dead/dying/corrupted hard drive;

The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner in a strip including all that left hand. When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal. But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode. My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

does it say not installed or does it say "download" in app store purchases?
if it say's download, then it's there for future use if you need to download it again.

Image size problem with Retina Macbook Pro

I exported raw images to Jpg and then resized as 1200 x 800 resolution images through "Easy batch Pro" app. When I uploaded them, they were extremely large. I've tried it several times and the result was always the same. Is it a problem with "Easy batch Pro" app, or something with Retina Display resolution? I also resized them as small size like 600x400, but the image was totally broke, and apparently had different look when I saw the original via aperture. What should I do?

What's the problem exactly? Call and complain. It's up to them on how they want to handle it, but if it's something normal or minor, they'll just fix the issue under warranty and send you on your way. That's how warranty works. In instances where a user has had repetative failure of the same kind or others with the same system, a complete replacement was done, but those were issues that border on the "it's a lemon" idea.

I have a problem with using MacBook Pro as wifi router when connected to ethernet. The Airport icon changes to show a laptop inside, my iPad shows connected (I think) but Safari will not operate. I tried pinging my iPad, it seems to see the iPad, but no connection to Safari or to other apps such as Good on the iPad. I have read many posting and tried repeatedly via Sharing in Systems Preferences, but no luck. Suggestions to fix, or is this a Lion problem?

Usually this is a problem related to the domain name server address. If you open Network preferences, select your Ethernet port then click on the Advanced button then on the DNS tab. You will likely see an entry like 10.0.1.1 already listed. Click on the Add [-] button and enter 208.67.222.222 then click on the OK button and then on the Apply button. See if this helps.
if it does not help then repeat the above but with the Airport port.

Check to see how many programs you have open. CMD +Option + ESC buttons and maybe force close programs you aren't using. Remember the "red x" does not completely quit out of the program, to quit permanently use the drop down menu up top, click "application name" from drop down and than go to Quit "application name".
