Problem With Silverlight
Hello, I recently was notified via the Firefox Plugin checker that my version of Silverlight was outdated. Going to the site linked, I made an attempt to download the latest version. However, upon making this attempt, I was informed that my browser did not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight. Not only that, but it now appears that I no longer have that plugin. Thus, I have a few questions- 1) Do I even need Silverlight? I can access YouTube just fine (video and sound plays just fine barring issues that have more to do with the age/wear of my computer than anything) 2) If the answer to above is "yes", how do I get Silverlight back?
ponyparty,
I had the same problem, with Netflix being the reason I was prompted to update my version of Silverlight. Netflix tech support was not at all helpful and just kept showing me the same table over and over, which stated that if I had Firefox 3.6 or higher (which I DID!) Silverlight should run properly. Unfortunately I received the same error over and over and over, even after updating my version of Firefox (as was recommended by both people I talked to at Netflix).
I am not a computer person. I do not know the difference between 64-bit and 32-bit. But from this forum I came to understand that the 64-bit version of Silverlight (which apparently is standard as it was the only option I was given upon downloading) is only compatible with Internet Explorer. I found a 32-bit version of silverlight [http://www.filehorse.com/download-silverlight-32/download/ here] which I installed and FINALLY PRAISE JESUS Netflix was back up and running.
Such a super frustrating problem. I hope this helps somebody like me who is JUST TRYING TO WATCH ONLINE TV INSTEAD OF DOING HOMEWORK. Because if Netflix isn't working, let's be honest, it throws a real wrench in one's life.

Problem with Silverlight 5, version 4 worked great on my IMAC.
Problem with Silverlight 5, version 4 worked great on my IMAC. Since I updated all my movies shutter or they stop to refresh. No one from Netflix or Microsoft can solve this problem. Please advise if there is a fix, maybe drop the silverlight plugin and contract with Flash Player plugin it works with everything.
Please don't advise me to uninstall and re-install the silverlight plugin I wrote a paper on un-installinging this plugin.
Please advise, I know there is an army of frusrated Netfix members out there. The solution is to download and install the latest version of Flip4Mac, which now includes a Silverlight component:
http://dynamic.telestream.net/downloads/download-flip4macwmv.htm
But the latest news is that Microsoft will probably abandon Silverlight in favour of HTML5:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/10/29/apples_ios_pushes_microsoft_to_dia l_down_silverlight_for_html5.html and

If you want to remove Silverlight the instructions are here:

Have a new Mac Book pro and have Netflix program that does not stream down. Have talked with Netflix, Microsoft and Mac support - who referred me back to Microsoft - and no one has been able to get the Silverlight folder trashed so I can redownload the program. If anyone has had this problem or can help I would greatly appreciate it. arcoirissan
Uninstall Silverlight: https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/removing-silverligh t-mac.aspx
Reinstall Silverlight: https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
Do the #12 Step here especially and try reinstalling again.

Silverlight (lastest)I'm having problems streaming movies from Netflix so I called them. They told me if I was dissatisfied, I could cancel my service with them. I guess this is their new customer service policy.

I am running Firefox 12.0 Win 7 home premium. My Microsoft Silverlight keeps crashing and I don't know where to look for the problem. I only get the notice that Silverlight has crashed and I need to refresh the page to fix the issue. This only happens in my livemail account. Is anyone else having this problem?
How do I track down the problem? Nothing too complicated, I'm a novice. I came here first because I always seem to get better assistance here than I do at Microsoft. Many times they just blame it on the browser and suggest I switch to IE8 or 9. (It ain't gonna' happen!!)
thanks in advance,
lige
p.s. after I refresh the page it seems to fix the problem temporarily.mha007,
I have always kept my history set at "remember nothing" and I use Ccleaner a couple times a day so I'm not dragging around a bunch of useless stuff.
I do keep my plug-ins updated. I check them almost daily. And I make sure I uncheck the optional download boxes!! I learned my lesson the hard way on that issue when I accidentally ended up with searchqu as my home page and search engine! What a job to remove it that was! Those people should be shot at sunrise!
So, I do appreciate your help but I don't believe any of these issues are the culprit. If you know any other avenues to explore I'll give them a try.
Thank you very much,
Lige -

That is a problem with Silverlight
On a Mac, Firefox 4 is a 64 bit application.<br />
Not all plugins support 64 bit and if not then you need to start Firefox in 32 bit mode to use that plugin.
# Close Firefox
# Start the Finder and open the Applications folder
# Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
# Select "Get Info"
# Select or Deselect "Open in 32-bit mode"
# Close the "Firefox Info" window
# Restart Firefox -
Firefox crashes with silverlight plugin.
Everytime firefox tries to open something with silverlight it crashes.
Tried the other troubleshoot suggestions but nothing seems to work.
Problem id: 2ea0294b-9ffe-4132-b6c1-bf8962140604Usually, there's no troubleshooting steps for Silverlight here (AFAIK) but whenever I had problems, it was solved by uninstalling Silverlight, rebooting, then re-installing Silverlight upon reboot.
I, myself, don't have problems with Silverlight as I use Linux and use Pipelight to get my Netflix up and running.
Try uninstalling, reboot, and reinstalling to see if that fixes the issue. -
I installed Lion and now seem to have problems with Microsoft Silverlight and other plug ins and applications. I haven't ever used time machine to back up (my bad I know). Is there a way to go back to snow leopard with messing up all my files and my set?
Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.

If it's messing things up you could try asking LaCie Support for assistance. -
Problem with netflix after upgrading to firefox 6
now that I have upgraded to firefox 6 I can't instant watch netflix anymore. please help I'd rather not have to use a different browser to do this.
'''SOLUTION'''
The problem with Netflix streaming with the FireFox 6.0 version is that the Netflix service '''refuses '''version 6.0 because they are A) unwilling to license it '''''or''''' B) too lazy or stupid to add the new version to their User Agent acceptance scheme. C) under contract to MICROSOFT to use Silverlight and part of Silverlight's DRM is what Browser versions are acceptable and Microsoft is taking their sweet time updating Silverlight to push I.E. on people and if you have Beta 5 Silverlight forget that -------Until Netflix accepts Firefox 6.0 as a legitimate Netflix browser '''you may do what I have done to get Firefox 6.0 streaming at Netflix.'''
1) Open Firefox 6.0 and enter "www.whatsmyua.com" without quotations in the address bar and highlight and copy your present User Agent string from the top of that page when you get there.
2) Type "ABOUT:CONFIG" without quotations in the Firefox address bar and hit enter then answer the You might destroy the world question with Alright I'm ready.
3) Right click on the background of the Config screen and then highlight to click on the "New String" choice... When the box comes up enter "general.useragent.override" without quotations and hit return
4) When another box appears paste in your current User Agent string you copied in step 1) BEFORE hitting enter place your cursor on your paste and right arrow to the end of the line. EDIT/REPLACE "6.0" with "5.0.1" without the quotations. Enter your change and close out the Config page.
5) Repeat step 1) to make sure the User Agent string is now spoofing your browser as version 5.0.1
6) Go to Netflix and watch movies (Make sure Silverlight and the Firefox Java are on). If it was working before the upgrade, everything should now work again streaming Netflix with Firefox 6.0.
7) Call Netflix and tell them Dave sent you to see if they're stupid or just lazy and to quit spreading the B.S. that Firefox 6.0 ain't workin when we know it's Netflix (1-866-636-3076) -

How can I get Firefox ver. 29 to work with Silverlight in windows 8.1
I noticed that this problem doesn't occur in version 28 of Firefox. For some reason when I try to go to Netflix, I can login but I can't play any videos without getting an 2103 error message with Silverlight. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both 64bit and 32bit versions of Silverlight 5. It worked last night, but for some reason it won't work at all. So I've went back to version 28 of FIrefox and the problem is gone. I also want to note that this problem isn't happening with Chrome or IE11.
I've been using Firefox Beta, so I've had 29 for a while. Silverlight works fine, and I use Netflix without any errors. I'm using a 64-bit Windows 7, so I can't say why it won't work on Windows 8.1. Hopefully it gets fixed since I'm updating soon.
Just a quick note: make sure you have the latest 32-bit version of Silverlight. The 64-bit version will only work on IE11 if you have a 64-bit system. -
Flash crashes on all broswers, along with silverlight and solitaire
i haven't installed anything new before this problem started, but today my flash and silverlight plugins have stopped workign. anything with video crashes and the browser asks to stop the plugin. oddly enough my windows 7 games have begun freezing (solitaire, spider etc). i hvae no idea if these are related but i find it odd it happened the same time. i've tried removing flash and silverlight and reinstalling them and also my chrome broswer but the same thing happens in firefox. does anyone have any idea what i should do?
Re :41. Jul 11, 2010 1:01 PM in response to: cbjazz AND I WILL RESPOND AGAIN IN CAPITALS BECAUSE I STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL FLASH SAFELY.
Re: Flash Player 10.1 doesn't work in Firefox, works in IE Hi cbjazz, It is FF vs 3.6.4 (I NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL IT GOT UPDATED TO .6) and vs 3.6.6 that is crashing Flash Player 10.1. You have it backwards. Go to the Firefox forum and read the 1,001 search results and you'll see. If you have been on the threads as much as I have, you will see Firefox has more problems with Flash Player 10.1 than Internet Explorer. Read the threads. iI AGREE, I DID NOT KNOW WHO IS IT FAULT BUT ALL ARE UNUSABLE: IN CHROME AND IE 8, FLASH TAKES FOREVER TO LOAD, AND THAT FF CRASHES HORRIBLY WHEN USING FLASH AFTER DOWNLOADING 10.1
Regarding Chrome, Flash Player 10.1 is embedded with that browser. IT JUST NEVER FINISHES LOADING
Thanks for the feedback on the FF 4 beta. Took out your OS? Good grief. ITS VISTA. WE ARE USED TO THIS AND BACK UP EVERYTHING AND REALLY GET GOOD WITH THE TECH SUPPORT IN INDIA.
If the previous version of Flash Player is properly Uninstalled and Installed either in Firefox or Internet Explorer, there is no problem. Users fail to follow the instructions is what happens 9 times out of 10 if they have Uninstall and Install issues. FOLKS LIKE ME HAVE NOT UNINSTALLED THEIR PREVIOUS VERSIONS BECAUSE WE WERE JUST FOLLOWING THE PROMPTS OF THE MESSAGES: YOU NEED THIS NEW FLASH PLUGIN FOR THIS CONTENT.....
The only issue that is causing problems and it is not crash related is the hardware acceleration that is turned ON by default in FP 10.1. Turning it off and updating the graphic and video drivers has solved that. MY COMPUTER IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I AM NOT SURE IF I HAVE ACCESS TO HOW TO DO ALL THIS
Thanks,eidnolb THANKS, CBJAZZ -

Why won't safari 7.o.1 work with silverlight and netflix using mavericks?
Netflx requires MS Silverlight. After installation Safari leads to the Netflix prompt "thanks for downloading, please restart your browser"--restarting browser doesn't work, nor does restarting computer. Netflix works with Silverlight on Firefox however. So, it seems like a Safari problem. Netflix techs couldn't help. I'm using a MacBook Air with Mavericks. Thank you for any advice on getting Safari (7.0.1) to work with Silverlight with Netflix.
Neither one of those Safari extensions are beneficial, so I suggest you uninstall them.
Safari Restore looks like junk. It's no longer required anyway since Safari already incorporates what it allegedly does.
Folx may have corrupted the Silverlight download, therefore I suggest repeating my above instructions to remove and re-install Silverlight.
Restart your Mac in "Safe Mode" and determine if you can load a Netflix movie then. Netflix will stream in Safe Mode, but the video is likely to stutter and there may be no audio.
Please read the following first:
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
