Problem with "Skip when shuffling"

OK I have a 2nd Gen iPod Nano 2gig.
I have several audio books that I do not want to come up when I'm shuffling. Each audiobook has it's own playlist and I set them all to "Skip when shuffling". It works fine...until I listen to those audiobooks. The minute I listen to one of the chapters it will undo the "skip when shuffling" option on that particular chapter and any other chapters I listen to.
Any suggestions on how to get them to stay on "skip when shuffling"??

Well I figured out how to fix this, with no help from this forum. If you're going to store songs on your iPod that you want "Skip when Shuffling" turned on, make sure you turn it one BEFORE you sync them to your iPod.

  • IOS8.1 Music App won't play "Skip When Shuffling" songs at all

iTunes has two options for skipping a song during shuffle:  the first column with the tick box (let's call this the "Play Column"), and the "Skip When Shuffling" tick box in the Options tab of the song info.
For songs in iTunes where the Play Column is unticked but Skip When Shuffling box is also unticked, this works as it should when synced to the iPhone:  ie the song doesn't come up in shuffle, but it can still be selected & played directly on Music app.
But when the Skip When Shuffling box is ticked (regardless of whether the Play Column is ticked or not), the song can't even be selected & played directly on the Music app.  When selected, it just picks another random song from my playlist to start shuffling from.
It's like the Skip When Shuffling option overrides the Play Column (no idea why iTunes should have two different options to do the same thing anyway), but has also now stopped the App from playing the song at all.  I've tested this by unticking the Skip When Shuffling box in iTunes & re-syncing to the iPhone, and the Music app now plays the songs when selected directly.
My iPhone 4S using iOS8 always played these songs with no problem, so this is a new issue/bug/feature with either iO8.1 or the app in the iPhone 6 itself.

What kind of Music App are you using?
Maybe some Apps they have bugs when using iOS7.
I'm using MVDIO and zingmp3, it's still okay here.

  • Skip when shuffling by setting not holding

My wife is having all kinds of problems setting iTunes to skip a song when shuffling. She sets it in iTunes and as soon she updates iTunes Match it removes the settings by from the songs. Any ideas?

Let me see if I can be clearer in my description of what's happening, sorry.
I put a group of songs into a playlist titled with the genre of the songs.  Then I highlighted all of the songs in that playlist and clicked on options.  Checked off the box "Skip when shuffling" because those songs still appear in my library in general.  This should enable me to play my library and those songs would automatically get skipped everytime (yes, my iPod is in Shuffle mode) but they don't.  They do when playing from iTunes on my desktop but not on my iPod when in the dock.  (Yes, I sync'd my iPod)

  • List of songs marked "skip when shuffling"?

I've marked a number of songs to "skip when shuffling," and I have no problem with that.
However, my computer's hard drive just crashed and I'm putting Humpty Dumpty back together again. I was able to keep the music (including some I'd deleted between the time of my last backup and the crash), but not the libraries and playlists.
And the things like "skip when shuffling."
So.. on my old computer, is there a way to get a list of things I'd marked that way? Then I'd get at least most of it.
I'd ask if there was a way to transfer the libraries, and I started to, but I'm going to go ahead and do some other cleanup, too, so what the heck.
    Thanks!

If you need it, I have a script that creates a playlist of any tracks excluded from the shuffle, FindSkipOnShuffle.vbs, which:
    creates a playlist "skip on shuffle" if it doesn't exist;
    deletes anything in that playlist if it already exists;
adds any tracks that are marked as skip on shuffle; and
displays a message that tells you when it's done (because it's slow, taking about a minute to scan through 10,000 tracks, it's nice to know when it's done).
If you want to run this, just right click on the above link, save it to your PC, and invoke it while iTunes is running.

  • "skip when shuffling" issue

I'm wondering about the new "skip when shuffling" option in iTunes 5... does this apply only to when shuffling songs in iTunes, or is it supposed to work when shuffling songs on my iPod? Because it's not.
I've ticked this option for all of my classical songs, but they still turn up now and again when I'm shuffling songs on my iPod.
    Is this because
    a. This option only applies to shuffled songs playing in iTunes, and not on the iPod
    b. This option will only work on the iPod software currently running on the
Nano, and will start to work when Apple release this version for all iPods.
    c. It's broke.
My iPod is a 60Gb colour, running 1.2 software included in the June update. Anybody having similar problems, or know the answer?
    Thanks,
    - c -

OK... so I did some testing - I apparently have waaaaay too much time on my hands - and it seems that checking the "skip when shuffling" option for a song in the iTunes library does not flag the song as needing to be updated on the iPod.
I changed the genre for all of the songs I'd checked the "skip when shuffling" option for - so iTunes was forced into updating them on my iPod - and now these songs don't seem to appear when shuffling on the iPod.
Am I alone in having this issue?

  • "Skip when shuffling" behavior on AppleTV

I've noticed that my Apple TV completely ignores the "Skip when shuffling" tag applied in iTunes (with respect to music at least). Is this consistent with other's experiences?

just so ppl know, the work-around is to make smart playlists in iTunes that exclude the files you don't want to shuffle and, and then to shuffle those playlists when using the Apple TV.
    this should really be fixed.

  • Skip when shuffling not working

I have all the songs in one playlist marked "Skip when shuffling" but they play anyway, no matter how many times I un-do and re-do it then re-sync my iPod.

  • Playlists with tracks flagged with "Skip while shuffling" do not advance

I manually manage my podcasts outside of iTunes and create playlists in iTunes so that I can arrange them and set album art before dropping them on to my iPod. Since I use the "Shuffle Songs" feature on my iPod routinely, I do not want the podcast tracks to be mixed with the rest of my music, so I set each podcast track with "Skip while shuffling".
The resultant behavior on my 4G iPod works as expected where I can go onto the playlist that I created for a Podcast and let it play in shuffle mode and it will go from one track to the next (I have Shuffle set to Song and Repeat to All in the Settings menu).
With the iPod Classic, when I play a track with the same settings as my 4G iPod, the track that I select will play over and over. If I try to advance to the next track by pressing ">>" on the wheel, the track starts over again.
Is this an actual behavior change with the iPod Classic or a bug? I definitely do not consider it as a feature :P
It's quite annoying that I am still using my 4G iPod for playing podcasts, which kind of makes buying the iPod Classic almost pointless.
    Thanks.

*so I set each podcast track with "Skip while shuffling".*
*The resultant behavior on my 4G iPod works as expected where I can go onto the playlist that I created for a Podcast and let it play in shuffle mode and it will go from one track to the next (I have Shuffle set to Song and Repeat to All in the Settings menu).*
If your iPod Settings -> Shuffle is set to On, none of the podcasts will play unless you select a specific podcast and press Play. Then only one podcast will play.
*Shuffle Songs* on the main menu will shuffle all unless it is set to *Skip when shuffling*.
If Settings -> Shuufle is set to Off and you play a playlist, it is not shuffled therefore everything in the playlist will play.
Sounds like you do not have this turned on, on the Classic.

  • Podcasts skipped when shuffling

Did a recent update to Itunes change whether podcasts are automatically skipped during Shuffle?
I always came across them before (and actually liked that.) Now, I see that all of my podcasts are automatically set to "skip during shuffle" which is a setting I DO not want.
Aside from manually changing that setting on each podcast, is there a way to have all podcasts included during Shuffle?
I have tried selecting all podcasts, hitting "get info," and selecting "skip when shuffle: NO" as a multiple command. But this apparently does not override the individual setting (in the "options" tab of each podcast) which is set at "skip during shuffle" even after I've executed the group change.
STrangely enough, what I really want to do is have only the podcasts be available for shuffling, without music. Is that possible somehow?

Thank you so much for posting this issue. I ran into it myself just recently, as I also wanted my podcasts to be included in the shuffle along with some Spoken Word audio tracks. I did not realize podcasts are skipping shuffling by default.
I did the following to get my playlist to shuffle:
    - created a Playlist and sent my Spoken Word tracks into it from my the Music section.
    - highlight Podcasts section in the Library -> Edit -> Select all, right-click -> Get Info -> Multiple? Yes -> Skip When Shuffling=No (so that the box is checked) -> OK.
    - Edit -> Select All -> right-click -> Add To Playlist -> select the playlist created in the first step, above.
That playlist now shuffles the podcasts with the other audio tracks, so it's working for me as long as I go through the above manual process.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cant set skip when shuffling

using itnes 10 if I use get info and then try to set skip when shuffling (or indeed change any of the attributes on the options page) it accepts the change but when I go back and look the option has not changed!  Help!  I'm tearing my hair out over this!  I'm on a new win7 machine - i had it working fine previously under xp...

Just to make sure we're talking about the same things, this is the XP version of the advanced security settings dialog. Here I'm making sure my account and system have full control of this folder (iTunes), all subfolders and files. Further I have ticked the box to replace all existing security permissions on all the files & subfolders (child objects) with the permissions shown in the dialog. Additional allow permissions for other users and groups can be ignored, but the highlighted ones are essential for iTunes to work properly.

  • Create iTunes Workflow to "Skip When Shuffling?"

I've been searching the forums, but haven't found a response yet. I'm a novice at Automator, as I've just switched from Panther to Tiger. Is it possible to create a workflow to mark a series of "songs" (in my case, the list of iTrip frequencies) to "Skip When Shuffling" so that they don't show up in the Party Shuffle or play when shuffling all songs? It's a lot of "songs" to go through manually. Thanks!
    Curt

    ibosket,
I was able to accomplish the turning off of the iTrip frequencies by doing the following:
    Automater Actions
    1) Find Songs in iTunes Action(Find: Songs; Whose: Playlist is Library and Whose: Album is equal to iTrip
    2) Run AppleScript Action with the following AppleScript copied from the Script Editor and replacing the complete text in the Automator "Run AppleScript" action and not just where it says (* Your script goes here *).
    click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "iTunes"
    repeat with aTrack in input
set enabled of aTrack to false
    end repeat
    end tell
    return input
    end run</pre>

  • Problem with skipping

Ive been having a regular problem lately with skipping when I burn CD's through the itunes burner. Let me first say all the music and audio books, everything in my itunes was bought through Itunes. So its not a piracy issue.
Im getting a regular problem where it seems every audio book will start skipping about 20 minutes into it. Not just one but anyone I do and when I burn music CD's about the 10th song or so it starts skipping. It is not the same batch of CD's im using, they are all brand new and not scratched.
any ideas what this could be or what to do. Ive only had this macbook pro about 4 months.

  • Playing songs marked to skip when shuffling

I recently switched to a video ipod from an older version (4th gen.), and I am having an issue the older one did not have. When I set songs to skip when shuffling, the older ipod would still play those songs when I was listening to a playlist. The ipod with video will not play those songs at all unless I deliberately play them one at a time. I would like to be able to play my daughter's kids songs in a playlist, but I don't necessarily want to listen to them when I'm just shuffling songs. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I am having the same issue.
When you set Shuffling off, it will play them sequentially when, before, you could leave shuffle on and if you were within an artist, album, or playlist you could have "Skip when shuffling" turned on so that it would be skipped when in the general "shuffle songs" but not when in one of these specific categories.
I guess my question is, when did this change because I seem to remember it working fine on my Mini and when I moved to my Nano but it seems to have changed recently. Is there any other way to have songs skip in the general shuffle but not in the category shuffle?

  • Apple TV 2 Ignores Skip When Shuffling

I am playing music on my Apple TV 2 from my MacBook Pro.  I have a bunch of stuff set to "Skip When Shuffling".  Works great with my iPhone and iPod, but the Apple TV 2 plays the stuff and ignores the setting.  Anyway to fix this?

I just updated to Apple TV 2.1. There is a bug in My Music when browsing albums. If different albums by different artists have the same name, they are merged together into a single album entry. This is bummer! This is a new bug with v2.1. Please fix it!
could this not be down to tagging issues in the files ?
do you have the "album artist" field when tagging in itunes ? if not, try using that and see if that resolves the issue.

I'm using Lion on an MBP and Numbers is the latest version

May you give more details about what is wrong with your dates ?
M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.
