Problem with starting Boot camp

Hi all,
when i try to use boot camp assistant(open boot camp assistant and click continue) it say 'you must update your system soft ware before using this setup assistant' evebn though I have updated by system using Software update option. Please help out with this problem.
Thanks..

This solved my problem...
I recommend going into your Disk Utility and under your hard drive on the left side click on the macintosh HD and then on the top make sure you have Journaling 'enabled.' (It's highlighted in green on the top menu bar in the disk utility box.)

  • Serious problem when instaling Boot Camp.

Hi, I hope someone can help me because my boot camp has been giving me every problem imaginable.
When I first tried to install windows, boot camp had no problems creating the partition, but my windows XP, for whatever reasons, did not installed.
So, I borrowed a trial windows from a friend, it installed ok, and I installed 3Ds Max in it(which is pretty much the only reason I needed boot camp, since I don't own a PC), and everything was perfect for the 30 days the trial version lasted.
Then, after it expired, I destroyed, the re-created the partition again, and another friend gave me a copy of his windows XP, and from her everything went to ****. The system installed correctly, but when I ran windows, the graphics were incredibly slow, even dragging a window around the desktop looked really jaggy, and 3DS Max installed, but wouldn't run.
I tried the exact same thing with other 2 windows xp copies(all 32 bit), and the exact same thing happened. And now, I have noticed the when I create the partition for windows, it renames itself "untitled" in the mac os desktop, and, even if I erase it, when I turn on the computer it doesn't get me directly to Mac OS, but rather searches for the windows partition even if it's no longer there. I have to press the alt key for the mac partition to appear.
I hope someone can at least tell me what the **** is wrong with my boot camp, thanks to everybody in advance.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
as for the startup problem: once you are in OSX goto System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX volume to be the default startup volume.
(During the Windows installation this is set to be the WIndows partition and remains that way until resetted).
For the obvious with the Windows installation: after the successful installation of Windows did you insert your OSX install DVD while in Windows to install the needed BootCamp Windows Drivers ?
If not, then that's why you had these graphics problems.
Read through the BootCamp Installation Guide here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

  • Can't start Boot Camp Assistant

    Hello community.
When I want to start Boot Camp Assistant with only the bottom option ticked, and I click the Install button, nothing happens.
I can click it 10 times and still nothing happens.
When I tick the second and third options, it goes to about 2/3, then freezes.
I made the USB stick using
    Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool
because when I try it with Boot Camp, it says
Your bootable usb drive could not be created.
Any tips how I can get it to work?

  • Problem with starting Windows when W510 in docking station

When I put in my W510 to the docking station, I have usually every second day problems with starting up Windows operation system.
I make 2 videos, where on the first 100_1060.MOV you can see starting Windows when it is frozen (first 1 minute record, I start record after about 3 minutes frozen), then I have to reboot W510 by on/off button and start ThinkVantage.

  • Problem with starting more than one SwingWorker

    Hello
I wonder if anyone could tell me if there are known problems with starting more than one SwingWorker thread at once?
In response to an action the user performs, I need to obtain several lists of things from the server. This includes a couple of server-calls, and I want to do the server calls in a thread outside the awt-event thread. So I start a couple of SwingWorker-threads. This works fine sometimes, but not always. Sometimes code in some of the SwingWorkers finished method does not update the ui. I can see that the correct calls are made, but the ui is still not updated correctly. The problem seems to be related to the sequence of when the different thread are finished. For instance, if the sequence is like this:
    SwingWorker1.construct
    SwingWorker2.construct
    SwingWorker1.finished
    SwingWorker2.finished
Things go fine, but if the sequence is:
    SwingWorker1.construct
    SwingWorker1.finished
    SwingWorker2.construct
    SwingWorker2.finished
the ui-updates in SwingWorker1.finished is not done correctly.
Can anyone help me with this?

    This is the point:
In one SwingWorker thread you have 1 construct method, and 1 finish method - which are both invoked once.
Therefore you only have one opportunity to update the gui in that thread. This forces you to use many threads if you want regular updates, which I try to avoid.
    Therefore, the solution!
Have a loop in the construct method that executes the algorithm accordingly, updating the gui accordingly at regular times, maintaining just the 1 thread - becomes easier and nicer for the programmer and the JVM.
The finish method in this case is to update the gui when all iterations are finished.
There is nothing wrong with this. Just because you have a finish method that is called in the event-dispatching thread doesn't mean that all your update code must be in there.
What you MUST ensure is that ALL your update code is executed in the event-dispatching thread, that is the most important thing. After all, SwingWorker is just a helper class, not the gospel template of how to update a gui.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the Boot Camp volume was created, but your Mac hasn't been set up to start automatically from the Windows disc. Insert the Windows DVD and press C key while your Mac is starting to start Windows installation.
If you want to make sure that everything is correct, open Boot Camp Assistant and choose the option to remove Windows 7. Then, open that application again, select the option to install Windows 7 and you will be able to install Windows as usual

  • Problems with starting Windows after Boot Camp was installed on a Win-PC

    Hi,
i have a very interesting problem for the MacComunity (haha -.-). The problem is: after I have installed Boot Camp from my Snow Leopard DVD on my Windows PC (not my iMac); I can not start the system. In the Boot Camp System where i can set the system to start with, there was only the Boot Camp System available (not Vista). However, the system installs some Vista-Updates and some Updates from Apple Software Update (iTunes 9.2, Quicktime 7, Safari 5, Airport 5, Boot Camp 3.1) on my PC.
Everything was all right but after I have restarted the System nothing happend. the System freezed when the boot-Screen (Intel Logo) appears. The Systemkeyboard was not detected. It only detects a n external apple Keyboard. There are some reactions when I press the keys, but the Monitory is frozen, anyway. What can I do?

Sounds like a lesson in there: don't wait to put OS X on an external drive that is usually off line.
Rush to a store or on-line and get a UPS of the 1500VA sort (APC RS would be nice, or SMART UPS 1000VA).
The directory of the drives could be corrupt.
I have all my equipment, modem, routers, the works, but we had a bad storm and one port on the router/modem is out (the one I used, the modem seems to be okay) and I am worried that the UPS's line filter for DSL in is also 'compromised.'
Storms and power outages can wRECK or cuase havoc.
It sounds like you need to map out bad sectors maybe (zero all in Disk Utility) perhaps. The directory, volume blocks, or even journal file, got scrambled. However, because no test can find it means - to me - it could be the "non user partitions" rather than OS X partition etc. Hence, zero the drive or just reformat it in full.
Why have you not ever with these outages, just continued to live w/o one? I wouldn't just shutdown, I would unplug if a storm approaches.
PS: SMC Reset button is under drive bay #4. Give it a 5-10 seconds depress.

  • Please help with my Boot Camp/Windows problems

I need to install windows on to my iMac to continue a course I’m taking at uni. Sadly it’s been a nightmare so far.
I backed up all of my data and opened Boot Camp Assistant and tired to partition a section of my hard drive for windows. However it gave me an error each time I tired. After asking around I was told to buy idefrag and that should fix the problem - it didn’t. I was then told to format the hard disk and reinstall OSX. I did that and Boot Camp was now happy to partition my hard drive.
I insert a copy of legitimate copy of Windows 7 Professional (x64) and clicked the Install Windows button when Boot Camp prompted me to.
Windows installation menus open after a quick restart but quickly tells me it cant see any partitions/drives to install on.
I googled the problem read that the partition should be formatted to NTFS for windows seven to install and that OSX wont do that. I installed a free program called NTFS-3G and that formatted the partition to NTFS.
Windows now saw the drive and went through the installation process. After it has gone through its automated routine it restarts the Mac and takes me to a "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..."
I press Enter and it takes me back to the very first installation menu and restarts the whole thing until it has once again gone through its automated routine and restarted the Mac and told me to press any key.
This happened ever time. During the install I am presented with the options of "Installing Windows" or "repairing windows". When I tried the automatic repair it told me it could find no fault.
So I started again by deleting the partition from within OSX and making a new one and installing windows and restarting but this time remove the windows 7 disk.
All this did was boot the Mac up in OSX. I then restarted the Mac and held down the options key. This presented me with the choice of booting from the Mac HDD or the windows partition. I chose the windows partition and it takes me to a black screen with a flashing line/prompt and does nothing else.
I assumed Windows 7 might not like my Mac for some strange reason so brought a copy of Vista business with SP2 (x86).
I deleting the partition from within OSX and made a new one. I began installing Vista. It told me it could only install on NTFS formatted partitions/drives.
Once again I used NTFS-3G to formatted the partition to NTFS and relaunced vista.
It installed fine and restarted itself. Once again it took me back to the first installation screen just as windows 7 did. I tried restarting without the disk (hold options again) and it took me back to the black screen with the flashing line and sat there forever.
I restarted the Mac with the OSX 10.6.1 install disk in the drive and it booted up ignoring the disk. I launched the disk from desk top and looked through the install options hoping to find some drivers or extra installs for boot camp/windows. I couldn’t see anything.
I don’t know what else to try.
    I have a 21.5' iMac:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.52f9

Re-read in the PDF guide in Boot Camp Assist where it tells you to format the "BOOTCAMP" FAT volume when in Windows.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
But I have really only one question:
Was this an electronic school download edition? they offer students Windows 7 Pro. If this was an electronic version from school, fine, but it has to be burned at *reduced 2x speed* or it won't work, and can have various (and different for everyone) problems, BUT: it is pretty well known and semi "documented."
You do NOT need NTFS driver. That is totally wrong.
Sorry you bought Vista, I used it but once Windows 7 went Beta and then RC I've used 7 and never looked back (what Vista should/could have been but was not, even with SP2).

  • HT3986 I have installed windows 7 into my macbook pro 15 inch with lions.  This computer is the current 2.2 GH i7 chip with 500 GB HD.  Now, how do I install the drivers.  When I started boot camp, the system prompted me to create a CD.  What do I do with

I have installed Windows 7 into my Macbook Pro 15 inch with Lions as operating system.  (current model with 2.2 GHz i7 processor, 500 GB HD ad 5400 rpm).  When I started with boot camp, the system promped me to create a disc, which I presume is for the drivers for windows 7.  Now windows is intalled.  What do I do with the CD that the system created for me?  Also, why does the system automatically start in Win7 instead of Lion.  I need to pression the option key to have it start in OS X.  I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.

Insert it while you are in Windows, if it does not autostart run setup.exe.
Choose your startup disk using Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk (in OSX) or Control Panel>Boot Camp>Startup Disk (in Windows)
